Dora Clelia Ferrara - Unknown - March 30, 2024

Departed: 03/30/2024 (Brooklyn)
Obituary Preview: Dora Ferrara (January 22, 1929 - March 30, 2024)
Dora Ferrara, 95, of Brooklyn, New York passed peacefully in her home on March 30, 2024 surrounded by her loving family.
Dora Clelia Guarnaccia was born on January 22nd, 1929 in Senerchia, Italy to Gelsomina and Gerardo Guarnaccia. She was the second of four strong, hardworking, beautiful, daughters (Caterina, Anita and Maria). As a young girl, she worked with her parents as a butcher and began refining her sewing skills. She also had a strong faith that guided her from an early age.
At the age of 25, she met Michele Ferrara, and after a long pursuit, he finally won her over. They fell in love and married on October 4th, 1954. Shortly after, they welcomed a son, Angelo. During WWII, work in southern Italy was hard to come to by, so Michele traveled to Australia. During this time, Dora raised Angelo on her own with the help of a beautiful community of family and women in the town. When he returned home, Dora and Michele welcomed daughters Rosanna and Laura a few years later.
In search of a better life for their family, Dora and Michele followed their dreams and joined Dora’s family in New York City. They sailed for seven days on a ship until they reached Ellis Island in 1968. Residing in Park Slope with the rest of their family, they worked hard to achieve the American dream. Dora was a master seamstress, loving wife, mother, daughter and sister, homemaker, Italian chef & baker, a Nonna to many and friend to all. She worked in a local factory in the garment district in Manhattan and worked tirelessly, sewing intricate designs onto an assortment of items. She was also an extremely skilled butcher. Michele, an iron worker, put his blood, sweat and tears into his work. However, nothing meant more to them than their children and their family.
Dora was a beautiful woman inside and out and was the “glue” that kept our family together. She embodied the saying “food is love” and made sure that no one ever left her house hungry. Dora loved cooking, food shopping, visiting churches all over the world and saying the rosary. Faith was a huge part of her life. If she knew you, she prayed for you and your family. Dora frequented church daily to pray and would meet with friends weekly for the rosary and novenas. Radio Maria played on loop whenever Nonna was around. She had the power to love without judgement, and she had the ability to create a sense of peace and calm wherever she went.
Beloved wife of the late Michele Ferrara, devoted mother to son Angelo Ferrara, and daughters Rosanna Wescott and Laura Ferrara, loving mother-in-law to Theresa Ferrara and Charles Wescott and adored Nonna to grandchildren Christina, Caitlin, Michael, David, Julia, Matteo, John, Frank, Bryce and Danielle. Dora was able to bless the lives of her great grandchildren John, Nico, Sofia Dora, Angelo and Graysen, whom they lovingly call “Nonna Dora.” Nonna was the matriarch of our family. She brought us together for every holiday and life celebration and left us all with memories rich of culture, food, laughter, faith and love. Our love for Nonna is eternal and she lives through the stories and songs sung by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Ti volgio bene Nonna. “Nina nonna, Nina nonna, Questa bombola, Vuole dorme”
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Dora’s life celebration. Visitation will take place Thursday, April 4th, 2024 2:00pm - 9:00pm at Torregrossa & Sons 79th Brooklyn, NY.
The service will take place Friday, April 5th, 2024 9:30am at St. Mary Mother of Jesus R.C. Church 2326 84th. Street Brooklyn, NY.

What is the purpose of an obituary?

Start by gathering facts about the deceased's life, such as dates of birth, marriage, education, career, and hobbies. Speak to close family and friends for anecdotes and details. Write in a respectful tone, focusing on the accomplishments and personality of the deceased. Many newspapers and funeral homes offer templates or guidelines to follow.
