Departed: 01/27/2024 (Littleton)
Obituary Preview: Mark Horton Jensen passed away on January 27, 2023 at Swedish Hospital after a decades long battle with Multiple Sclerosis.
Mark was born on December 16, 1970 in Utah to Richard and Diane Jensen.
Mark, the youngest of three kids, was born with a passion for cars and mischief as a young boy.
In 1977 his family moved to Colorado where he attended school until his graduation from Gateway High School in 1989.
While in his teens and 20’s, his passion for cars and racing at Bandimere Speedway was his niche. His prize possesion was a 1970 Chevy Nova. He loved his car and took pride in repairing, souping up, and showing it off with fellow “car guys”.
He worked for Albertsons and built lifelong friendships with fellow co-workers. In approximately 1995, the devastating effects of MS no longer allowed him to retain his employment and his journey continued.
Everyone who met Mark over the years absolutely loved him and mentioned his amazing smile and positive attitude when dealing with his devastating disease.
Mark’s mom, Diane, provided one-to-one care for Mark and managed all of his needs. This important and critical oversight and love, allowed him to stay on earth with his friends and family for many, many years longer than medical professionals predicted.
Mark was a larger than life presence with a 6’5” height and a smile to match. His bravery and love for life was always apparent and has been the first thing family and friends remember about this amazing son, brother, and friend.
Mark is preceded in death by Richard Jensen (father) and survived by Diane Jensen (mother), Kris Giebler (sister), Sherrie Oehrlein (sister), Roger Jensen (1/2 brother), Andrea Jensen (1/2 sister) 8 nieces/nephews and 3 great nieces/nephews.

Mark Cozart - February 12, 1964 - November 25, 2023

Departed: 11/25/2023 (Littleton)
Obituary Preview: Mark Owen Cozart was born on February 12, 1964 in Pueblo, Colorado to Curtis Wayne Cozart and Carol Irene Cozart. He passed away suddenly from a cardiac event on November 25, 2023. He was only 59 years of age.
Mark is survived by his loving wife Lisa Stafford Cozart, his sons Thomas and Samuel, his mother Carol Cozart, his brothers Curtis, Jeffrey, and Michael, and many, many loyal friends and extended family members.
Mark was a teacher by vocation and sometimes by occupation. He loved working with youth. He had a unique ability to coach them to develop skills, while at the same time discovering the value within themselves. After graduating from Colorado State University, he worked on a wagon train with troubled teens, walking and riding across the United States. He then worked in Lamar, Colorado at a middle school before moving to Tacoma, Washington where he worked at private schools, coached sports, and led summer and afterschool programs. He had a remarkable ability to coach and could identify the little changes a person could make that would result in increased performance.
While he was in Washington, he met and fell in love with Lisa Stafford who was teaching at the same school. Mark and Lisa moved to Denver to raise their children. Thomas and Samuel became Mark’s primary focus and he devoted much of his time and attention to teaching and coaching them. The boys had the benefit of a father who knew how to help them excel with school, sports, and music, and was willing to pour himself out for them. To say he was an exemplary father is an understatement.
Recently, Mark had been working at Amazon where he continued to be a coach and mentor, helping people perform at their best at work.
When he wasn’t teaching, Mark enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He demonstrated exceptional loyalty and service. In recent years he would often be found at his mother’s home taking care of her needs like lawn mowing, snow shoveling, tree trimming, and other household maintenance. His friendships were lifelong, and his friends all knew that Mark would do anything for them.
Mark’s pastimes included watching and participating in sports like bicycling, skiing, and sailing. He loved human performance, and loved sports that were deeply rooted with the earth. He also enjoyed playing the trumpet and had a special connection with music. He was a craftsman and loved working with wood. Many homes in the Denver area have stone countertops and cabinets that were crafted by Mark.
Mark contributed to all our lives with his loyal service and his gentle encouragement. His primary goal was to help others be their best. He will be remembered by people across the country as a person who made a difference in their lives. A memorial service is planned for Monday, December 18, 2023 at 11:00 am at Saint James Episcopal Church in Wheat Ridge, Colorado. Details can be found at https://markowencozart.wordpress.com/ “In the end, it’s not the years in your life that count. It’s the life in your years.” Abraham Lincoln

Frank Lamirand - July 16, 1941 - November 13, 2023

Departed: 11/13/2023 (Littleton)
Obituary Preview: July 16, 1941 - November 13, 2023 In His Own Words:
Born in Fort Bragg, North Carolina to Frank and Anna Lee Lamirand, Sr., I grew up as a farm boy in Ada, OK. I loved to hunt, fish, and race Corvettes. At the age of 17, I joined the army, setting the stage for a journey that would eventually lead me to earn my masters in Education. For 45 years, I dedicated my life to teaching and serving as an elementary school principal. I also served the community as a reserve police officer for the City of Longmont.
In 1967, I married the love of my life, Carol Lynn Wehrli, and we shared 56 wonderful years together. Our family grew to include two beautiful children, Tracie and Jimmy. Tracie, a loving mother herself, has blessed us with two grandchildren, Tyson and Zachary. Jimmy (Connie) also blessed us with three grandchildren, Austin, Cade, and Jentry.
One of my greatest passions in life was team roping, a sport I pursued with enthusiasm. Competing on my favorite horse, Hollywood, brought me immense joy and fulfillment. But beyond any accomplishment or accolade, my true happiness came from the moments spent with my family and friends. I cherished every opportunity to be with them, creating lasting memories that will endure.
I was never fond of funerals, so spread my ashes among the beautiful Rocky Mountains, a place that held a special significance in my heart. I always found peace and happiness there and we will always be together anytime you visit.

Departed: 10/06/2023 (Littleton)
Obituary Preview: We are sad to announce our mother, Cheryl Kay Palecki, age 78, passed away on October 6, 2023 in Parker, Colorado. Cheryl was born in Wichita, Kansas on March 5, 1945 to Richard and Edith "Eileen" Smith.
Cheryl is survived by her children Lisa Fritz-Kinsella, Cynthia Maley (Derek), Teresa Eos (Les), Michael Palecki (Tracy), and Chris Palecki (Sara), grandchildren, Cameron Summers, Corey Summers, Nathan Fritz, Anelisia Palecki, Savanna Otto, Jackson Palecki, Jonathan Maley and brother, Larry Smith.
Cheryl was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Robert "Bob" Palecki, parents, Richard and Eileen Smith, brothers Robert Smith and David Smith, grandchild Devin Eos and son in law Bill Kinsella.
In Cheryl's earlier years, as a young child, her parents were proud of her as she did well in school and had an interest in drawing and the arts. After graduating high school, she went to Wichita State University; Cheryl had an interest in art and psychology. Soon after college, she met her husband Robert in Wichita, who was in the Navy. After being married they moved to Oxnard, CA where he was stationed and then Rhode Island soon after, where Lisa, her first child was born.
Cheryl was a devoted Wife and Mother with an innate gift and an artistic ability that shone through in everything she did. She sewed her young children's Halloween costumes and clothes and made beautiful plaques as an interest on the side. She genuinely devoted herself to making each and every birthday and holiday special and had a natural visual creative side in interior design. Christmas was a magical time of year and she went to great lengths to find just the right gift for each family member. Her home was always warm and beautiful, especially around the holidays. Our Mother had an ethereal quality and loved to spend time with each of her children and grandchildren. She encouraged creative themed celebrations, movie nights, and there were many late night conversations. She was an enthusiastic soccer coach, coaching many soccer games and tournaments with Mike, her son. Chris, her son, was a player on the teams they coached. Mom always wanted to know how you were and soon the conversation would turn to a reverent depth of support, whatever the topic was. She had a great sense of humor, often poking fun at whatever twisted outcome there was. One of her sayings, "beware of the light at the end of the tunnel, it could be another train." She also had other relevant sayings for dealing with life's everyday ups and downs such as "where there's a will there's a way" and "you are responsible for your own happiness." Later in life, she enjoyed watching baseball, football, basketball and hockey with Dad and visiting with her adult children and grandchildren.
Our Mom was more than happy to be our emotional sounding board. She was a star in our eyes that way and we are extremely grateful for her being our Mom.
Our family takes great comfort that our Dad, who passed recently, and our Mom are reunited.
We will be Celebrating Cheryl's life on November 13th, 2023 at 12 noon at First Presbyterian Church of Littleton, 1609 W Littleton Boulevard, Littleton, CO 80120.

Michael Charles Allen - February 14, 1947 - September 06, 2023

Departed: 09/06/2023 (Littleton)
Obituary Preview: Michael Charles Allen, 76, passed away at his home on September 6th after a short illness. Michael grew up and lived much of his life in northwest Denver, and spent his later years in Lakewood, CO.
Ever the conversationalist, Mike had numerous interests. Cars, current events, history, classic films, cowboy novels, and the goings on at his neighborhood HOA were among the many subjects he would enthusiastically share his opinions on. Mike was immensely proud of his Native American heritage, which was passed down from both his father Pete and his mother Melda. He also loved coaching, and took pride in his work with many teams at Our Lady of Fatima School, helped coach his nephew’s youth soccer teams, and was always prepared with a new scrap of unsolicited golf advice for anyone joining his foursome.
Michael was loved by many for his sparkling wit and sense of humor, even in the face of the physical and emotional challenges he dealt with throughout his adult life due to being hit by a car at the age of 14. In spite of these difficulties, Mike lived a very active life by mastering the art of exercising when he was able to, and recovering when he needed to. He went to the gym two to three times a week, played tennis and softball with friends and coworkers, and enjoyed riding his bike along Clear Creek with his much loved dogs Sammy and Casey. Most of all he loved golfing, and was always in pursuit of that ever elusive hole-in-one.
On November 11th, Michael is throwing one last “19th Hole” party for his family and friends who would like to celebrate his life by sharing a memory and a laugh, at Willis Case Golf Course, 4999 Vrain St. in Denver at 4:00 PM. Casual attire please, hors d'oeuvres will be provided and a cash bar will be available.

What is the purpose of an obituary?

The purpose of an obituary is to formally announce someone’s passing to the community, commemorate the deceased’s life, celebrate their achievements, and notify friends and acquaintances about the details of the funeral or memorial services.

Who typically writes an obituary?

An obituary is most often written by a close family member or friend. In some instances, individuals pre-write their own obituaries or leave instructions for their loved ones. Professional writers at the newspapers or funeral homes can also assist in crafting an obituary.

What information is usually included in an obituary?

A standard obituary includes the full name of the deceased, dates of birth and death, a summary of their life accomplishments, family members, details about the funeral or memorial services, and sometimes a cause of death if the family wishes to disclose it.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary widely from a brief notice to a comprehensive account of the deceased's life. It often depends on the preferences of the family, the cost of publication space, and the publication's guidelines. Typically, obituaries are between 200 to 600 words.

Is an obituary the same as a death notice?

No, an obituary is not the same as a death notice. A death notice is a shorter, more straightforward announcement of someone’s passing and the service times and is often paid for by the family. An obituary is more detailed and often includes a more personal account of the deceased’s life and legacy.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper or website?

To submit an obituary, contact the newspaper or website for their submission guidelines. This usually involves providing the written obituary text, confirming identity and relationship to the deceased, and sometimes, providing a death certificate. There may also be a fee based on the obituary's length and whether a photograph is included.

Can I include a photograph with an obituary?

Yes, many obituaries include a photograph of the deceased. The specific requirements regarding the size and quality of the photograph can vary depending on the publication, and there might be an additional charge for this feature.

What should I do if I spot an error in an obituary?

If you notice an error in an obituary, you should contact the newspaper or website where it was published as soon as possible to correct the information. Provide clear details about the error and the necessary corrections.

Are there different types of obituaries?

Yes, there are several types of obituaries. The traditional obituary often includes detailed personal and family information, while a customary death notice is brief and to the point. There are also self-written obituaries prepared by individuals before their passing, and memorial notices that are written on anniversaries of the death.

What is the cost of publishing an obituary?

The cost of publishing an obituary can vary. Newspapers generally charge by length, number of publication days, and whether a photo is included. Online platforms may offer different packages or free postings. Contact the publication for exact pricing.

Is it necessary to mention the cause of death?

It is not necessary to mention the cause of death in an obituary. The disclosure of such personal information is entirely at the discretion of the family and may be guided by the deceased’s wishes.

How do I write an obituary?

Writing an obituary typically involves gathering facts about the deceased's life, structuring the information into a coherent narrative, and often including personal touches like anecdotes or expressions of what the deceased meant to those left behind. It’s important to keep the tone respectful and to follow any format or length guidelines provided by the publication.

Can I submit an obituary for someone who died years ago?

Yes, some people submit memorial notices or retrospective obituaries on significant anniversaries of a loved one's death or if an obituary was never published at the time of death.

What makes an obituary compelling?

A compelling obituary is one that accurately and affectionately captures the essence of the deceased’s life story, perhaps by highlighting their unique traits, notable achievements, and the impact they had on those around them. It should also provide key information in a clear and concise manner.

Should an obituary be written in first person or third person?

Obituaries are typically written in the third person. Writing in the third person lends an air of formality and universality to the narrative, which is fitting for the wide audience that an obituary reaches.

Is it appropriate to include charitable donation requests in an obituary?

Yes, it is common and appropriate to include a request for charitable donations in lieu of flowers to honor the deceased. This can be a way to support a cause that was important to them or contribute to a meaningful legacy.

What can I do if I cannot afford to publish an obituary?

If publishing costs are a concern, consider free or lower-cost options like online obituary websites, social media, or community bulletins. Some newspapers also offer reduced rates or assistance for families in financial need.

How quickly should an obituary be published after a death?

While there is no set timeline, it's conventional to publish an obituary within a few days to a week after death, especially if it contains information about forthcoming services. However, the timing can vary based on cultural practices, family preferences, and logistical considerations.

Can I update an obituary after initial publication?

Obituaries may be updated or corrected after initial publication, generally by contacting the publication outlet to make the changes. Depending on the nature of the update and policies of the publication, there may be additional costs involved.

Do online obituaries remain on the internet forever?

Many online obituaries will remain available indefinitely, but this depends on the policies of the individual website or online newspaper. Some may offer permanent archival, while others might remove listings after a certain period or offer them as a paid permanent tribute.
