Obituary Preview: Hey there! Let's add a sprinkle of Denise's spark to this tribute:
The curtain closed on Denise Renee Watkins' vibrant show of life on April 10, 2024, at the age of 59, in West Chester, OH. Born to the world's stage on April 8, 1965, she exited stage left, surrounded by her adoring cast—her family.
Leaving behind a legacy of laughter and love is her leading man, father Dennis Hutchinson (with his leading lady Leah), her star-studded children Matthew (co-starring Taylor) and Amanda Watkins, along with her scene-stealing grandkids Peyton, Kane, and Karter, who will forever remember their Mamaw's encore performances.
Denise's sisterly ensemble includes Melinda Goyette (alongside Dan and their supporting actors Joey, Sara, and Emily), Trina Gierden (with Steve and their spotlight-stealer Alex), Stacey Baxter (and her dynamic duo Quinn & Jayden), and understudy Tracey Hutchinson - along with Aunt Patti (Paul), and stellar cousin Diane, will all miss their leading lady.
Taking her final bow before her were her mother, Pamela Hutchinson, and her VIP audience in the sky, grandparents John and Lois Gibbs, and Dutch and Anne Hutchinson.
A graduate of Milford High School, Denise's life was an improvisational masterpiece, filled with unscripted moments of joy and the occasional comedic relief that comes with a full house.
Denise's farewell tour is scheduled for an exclusive one-day engagement on Sunday, April 21st, from 1:00 to 4:00 PM at the Stoney Creek Condominium's Club House, located at 7664 Stoney Creek Ln, West Chester 45069. It's sure to be a sold-out event, with memories as the main act and love as the encore. Denise's final review: She lived, she loved, she touch

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an obituary?

An obituary is a written announcement of a person's death, often including a brief account of their life, information about the upcoming funeral or memorial services, and sometimes a message from the family. It serves as a notice to the community and a way to celebrate and honor the life of the deceased.

Where are obituaries typically published?

Obituaries are commonly published in local newspapers, on funeral home websites, and on dedicated online obituary sites. Some may also appear in national newspapers, magazines, or professional journals, especially for well-known individuals.

Who writes an obituary?

An obituary is usually written by a close family member, friend or a funeral director on behalf of the family. In the case of notable public figures, journalists may write an obituary in advance of the individual’s passing.

How long after a death is an obituary published?

An obituary is typically published within a few days after a death to allow time for the family to make arrangements and provide necessary information. The timeline can vary depending on the publication processes of newspapers or online platforms.

What is typically included in an obituary?

An obituary generally includes the full name of the deceased, dates of birth and death, a brief summary of their life and accomplishments, names of surviving family members, funeral or memorial service details, and sometimes a photograph.

Is there a cost to publish an obituary?

Most newspapers charge a fee to publish an obituary, which varies based on length, publication circulation, and whether a photograph is included. Online obituary services may offer free or paid options, depending on their business model.

Can an obituary be published online only?

Yes, an obituary can be published exclusively online. Many families choose to do this to reach a wider audience, save costs, and have the ability to share the obituary easily through social media and email.

What is the difference between an obituary and a death notice?

A death notice is a shorter, more straightforward announcement of someone's passing, often without the detailed life story or family information found in an obituary. Death notices are often paid for by the family and published in newspapers.

How can I write an obituary?

To write an obituary, start by gathering information about the deceased, including their full name, dates of birth and death, a summary of their life, and details about the funeral or memorial services. Be sure to include significant accomplishments, hobbies, and information about surviving family members.

Are there templates available for writing an obituary?

Yes, many funeral homes, online obituary sites, and other resources offer templates to help you write an obituary. These can provide a general structure and ensure that you include all necessary information.

Is it necessary to include a cause of death in an obituary?

It is not necessary or required to include a cause of death in an obituary. The decision to include this information is a personal one and should be agreed upon by the family of the deceased.

How can I make an obituary more personal?

To make an obituary more personal, consider sharing anecdotes, personal traits, or cherished memories of the deceased. Including specific qualities or meaningful stories can help to reflect the unique life of the individual.

What should I do if I spot an error in an obituary?

If you find an error in an obituary, contact the newspaper, funeral home, or website where it was published as soon as possible to request a correction. Be sure to provide clear information on what needs to be corrected.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper or website?

To submit an obituary, first check the submission guidelines for the chosen newspaper or website. This will typically involve sending the obituary text, any desired photographs, and payment information if required, either via email, an online form, or by fax.

Can I include charitable donation information in an obituary?

Yes, you can include a request for charitable donations in lieu of flowers in an obituary. Be sure to provide the name and address of the charity to make it easier for people to donate.

Is it appropriate to use humor in an obituary?

While obituaries are typically solemn, using humor can be appropriate if it reflects the personality of the deceased and is respectful. It's essential to consider the tone and whether it would be appreciated by family members and other readers.

How can I respect the deceased’s privacy when writing an obituary?

To respect privacy, avoid sharing sensitive personal details such as the deceased's home address or cause of death if it is considered private. Focus on the individual's life, legacy, and the love they shared with family and friends.

What do I do if the deceased left specific instructions for their obituary?

If the deceased left specific instructions for their obituary, do your best to honor their wishes while ensuring the content is appropriate for public reading. You may need to work with family members to balance personal desires with general expectations for an obituary.

Is it okay to post an obituary on social media?

It is becoming increasingly common to share obituaries on social media as a way to reach friends and family who may not have access to the original publication. Make sure that the content is respectful and considerate of all individuals who might read it.

Can anyone write and submit an obituary?

While typically a family member writes and submits an obituary, anyone close to the deceased who has relevant information and consent from the family can undertake this task. It's important to communicate with the family to ensure the obituary accurately reflects their wishes.

How should I begin an obituary?

Begin an obituary with an announcement of the death, the person's full name, age at the time of death, and the date and place of their passing. This introduction serves as the foundation for the rest of the information about their life and legacy.

What’s the best way to conclude an obituary?

An obituary is often concluded with details of the funeral or memorial service, any visitations, and a thank you note or final words from the family. Optionally, you can end with a meaningful quote, poem, or passage that holds significance to the deceased or their family.
