A native of Battle Creek, Michigan, he had lived in Kirbyville/Newton area 6 years.  He was a Wood worker in the furniture business and U S Army Vietnam veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Jean Slater of Kirbyville; children, Shawn Slater, Heather Slater, Sunie Slater, Marry Thurle, Christal Thurle, Craig Thurle and Sonja, Elizabeth "Liz" Hays and Andy, and Guy Jr. Thurle and Katherina.

Clara Fay loved tending to her gardening and canning the produce it provided. She also loved her Eastern Star family of 65 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, W.C. Mitchell and her son Curtin Mitchell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers Robert Bean, Jack Bean, Ollis Bean, Bill Bean, Lee Bean, and sister, Sarah Hutson. Born on August 11th, 1946, to Lizzie and James Burns, Joe Burns lived his life in service to the lord, his family, and the community of Kirbyville.
A carpenter by trade, many Southeast Texas homes are marked by the work of his hands.
Joe was a devoted husband to his wife, Luvenia, of 52 years. Side by side, they watched their family grow by leaps and bounds. Joe left behind the legacy of his footsteps for his son, John LaBiche, to fill.
He was dearly loved by his daughter-in-law Stacy LaBiche, and was called “PawPaw” by his grandchildren: Stephanie LaBiche and her partner Kenn Steele, Stacy Hampton and her husband Jake Hampton, Crisjen Rhodes and her husband Bobby Rhodes, Monica Blake and her partner Wesley Peoples, and his great-grandchildren: Andrew and Anthony Sackett, Ameelia Williams, Emma and Darcy Rhodes, and Baby Peoples.
He is survived by his brothers Henry and Edgar Burns.
He was preceded in death by his mother Lizzie Burns and brothers Clint, Billy, Charles, Mike, and Kenneth Burns.

Sheri is survived by her husband, Alton Inman of Call; son, Jacob Inman and Jenna of Kirbyville; daughter, Dolores Jones of Pineland; father, Charles White of Call; brother, C.B. Mabel Ruth Riley - September 10, 1927 - March 11, 2024

Obituary Preview: Mabel Ruth Bishop Riley age 96 of Bandera, Tx. passed from this life on March 11, 2024, at 6:20pm. Mabel was born Sept. 10,1927 in Fal, La., an extinct logging town that was located in Vernon Parish. Her parents were C.B. “Burt” Bishop and Minervia Williams Bishop. She married Joe L. Riley on Dec. 20,1945.
Mabel was approximately 1 yr old when the family moved to the Trout Creek Community near Call, Tx. where she lived the majority of her life. She did live a short time near Hemphill, Tx. and later moved to Calvin, Ok. in 2009. She would move again in 2018 to Bandera, Tx. where she enjoyed people driving by just to look at her tiny house. She was blessed to be in her home when she passed.
Mabel was in the graduating class of 1945 at Bleakwood School located at Trout Creek. In 1957 she received her Red Cross Nursing Certificate and a Nurse’s Aide Certificate from Newton County Hospital in 1965. From 1978 through 1996 she would attend income tax preparation classes at Texas A&M University and would also attend bookkeeping classes at Lamar University. In 1977 Mabel received her Public Accountant License and in 1989 was licensed to sell life insurance. She belonged to the Texas Association of Assessing Officers in Austin, Tx.
At age 15, Mabel started work at Mike Martin store at Trout Creek. After graduating school at age 18, she went to work in Beaumont at Fehr Baking. After she married Joe, they moved to Silsbee, and she worked for Read Plumbing in the office. Later she bought 20 acres of land at Trout Creek. She began doing notary work. Starting in 1962, Mabel had a home office for Joe’s logging business and she also sold license plates for the county. She helped many people get their birth certificates, but the most difficult one was her dad’s. She was a secretary for Southwestern Timber Company for 81/2 years. She then had a business service at home for bookkeeping, income tax and notary work. Mabel also worked in the Newton County Tax Assessors office.
Mabel was a 61-year member of The Order of Eastern Star. She was a charter member of Kirbyville Chapter No. 263 and held the position of Worthy Matron 2008-2009. She was a current member of Bandera Chapter No. 643.
Mabel was preceded in death by her parents Burt and Minervia. Her husband Joe L. Riley. A baby daughter buried in Silsbee, Tx, a newborn buried at the old home place, two additional babies lost, newborn son Joe Burton Riley, son John Larry Riley. Her only sibling, a brother, William Melvin “Buck” Bishop.
She is survived by son Steve Bradford Riley, Sr, and wife Robbie of BonWeir, Tx., daughter Bertie Joanne Hardwick and husband Tommy of Bandera, Tx and Calvin, Ok. and son Bishop Todd Riley of Trout Creek Community, Call, Tx., grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great, great grandchildren.
Visitation will be Sunday March 17, 2024, 10am to 12 noon at Adams EE Stringer Funeral Home in Kirbyville, Tx. Services will be held at the same location at 2pm, with pastor Jeff Bishop officiating. Burial will follow at the Trout Creek Cemetery.

Born in New Orleans, LA, on January 6, 1945, Charles was the son of John R. and Alice Carter Long. He spent his younger days growing up in Port Arthur and Bridge City, TX. He was a 1963 graduate of Bridge City High School. Charles entered the Navy on active duty shortly after graduation, where he started his military career that lasted nine years. He received many awards, including a Letter of Commendation for his meritorious service during hurricane relief operations in the Dominican Republic. His interest in the medical field led him the optical training at Bethesda, Maryland, where he graduated at the top of his class in Optical school.
Charles married the love of his life, Judy Ann Mullins on June 14, 1963. Two children were born of their marriage, Jeffrey Wade and Tammie Linn.
Charles left the military in January 1971 to pursue business ventures in Charlottesville, VA. He and his family moved to Houston in 1977 and he became the owner of several optical shops in the Houston area. After retiring, he moved to Kirbyville in 2008.
Charles was preceded in death by his beautiful wife Judy, his mother and father, his son Jeffrey; and a brother, James H. Long.
Charles is survived by his daughter, Tammie Linn Blahuta (James) of Katy, TX, brothers John David Long of Gladewater, Lawrence W. Long of Jasper, and sister, Martha Grimsley of Lufkin. He is also survived by grandsons, Bradley Blahuta of Victoria, TX, Keith and Kyle Long of Kirbyville, and granddaughter, Kristen Sirmons of Kirbyville, and several great grandchildren.
Services will be held at Kirbyville Methodist Church on Saturday, March 9, at 11:00 am. Visitation will be held from 10 am until the time of the funeral. Burial will be immediately following services at Kirbyville Cemetery.
