Eva Marie Schamp - April 28, 1939 - April 10, 2022

Departed: 04/10/2022 (Albany)
Obituary Preview: It is with great sadness that the family of Eva Marie Schamp announces her passing on Sunday, April 10, 2022, at the age of 82.
Eva was born April 28, 1939, in Yugoslavia.  As a child she was greatly impacted by WWII, and the family fled Germany for the safety of America - settling in St. Louis. Speaking no English, Eva had to “re-learn” in an American school.   In 1954 Eva began a “pen pal” relationship with a dashing Army soldier named Gary.  They fell deeply in love and married in 1955.  After completing his last tour of duty, the family settled in Albany in 1960.
Eva’s family was her entire world.  The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Eva.  She had an uncanny ability to find happiness in her daily activities.  She worried over and took care of her family until the end, often ignoring her own needs.  Eva was known as a fighter - having been diagnosed with aggressive leukemia over 20 years ago, she persevered to have precious time with her grandchildren.  The grandchildren had a special place in her heart - each of them having a pet name for her and her for them.
She nursed Gary through the last days of his life in 2013.  Although suffering from significant pain, Eva continued to endure, enjoying the arrival of several great grandchildren.   In the end, her heart could no longer survive the battle.  Forever Loved, Forever Missed & Forever in our Hearts.
Eva is survived by her daughter Mary (Dick); sons Gary Jr. (LeAnn), Rick (Cindy) and Frank (Holly); grandchildren Todd (Katie), Ally (Michael), Adam (Kylie), Michael, Anna (Casey), Myleigh, Jayden and Jozee; eight great-grandchildren; and goddaughter Leisa Lindberg.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.
A Celebration of Life & Funeral Service will be held Monday, April 18 at 1pm, at AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home.

Mildred "Millie" Roberta Beggs - May 14, 1926 - March 06, 2022

Departed: 03/06/2022 (Albany)
Obituary Preview: Mildred Roberta Bess was born May 14, 1926, near Idabel, Oklahoma, to Jasper Wesley Bess and Lola Mae (Willis) Bess. Known to everyone as “Millie”, she attended a three-room schoolhouse until she transferred to Wright City High School. She graduated in 1944 and went straight to work for the sawmill where she saved money to attend college, which was her dream. There, she met Mary (Beggs) Toliver who introduced Millie to her brother, Calvin Leslie Beggs, through correspondence while he was stationed in the South Pacific during WWII. He came home and they were married on November 17, 1945. Millie and Calvin were married 63 years before his passing in 2009. They lived in Oklahoma, California, Arizona, Colorado, Washington, and Oregon, moving frequently for Calvin’s work in the “log woods”. In 2015, Millie sold the family farm near Turner, Oregon, where they had lived more than 30 years and moved to McMinnville, Oregon, to be near her children who live in the surrounding area.
They were blessed with nine children: Larry (Kerstin), Judy (Kenny), Arnold, Carolyn (Leon), Tammy (Raymond), Shane (Gina), Mark (Priscilla), Teresa (Jack), and Kirk (Becky). Millie wore many hats throughout her life, but her favorite was being a homemaker. She loved her family, cooking, quilting, and gardening. She had an amazing green thumb. Millie said in the brief memoirs she worked on with her daughter Carolyn: “The times in my life I was the happiest was when each of my children were born. I felt like my life had purpose. Another time I was the happiest when Calvin was saved in 1972. My idea of perfect happiness is when there is no confusion, and everyone is happy and on their way to heaven. It seems like my life has gone by too fast.”
Millie loved her church in Aumsville, Oregon, where she attended several years before leaving the farm but found a new church home in McMinnville, Pacific Baptist Church, when she relocated. Millie lived her life according to the Bible and her strong faith in her Savior, sharing her faith with family and others throughout her lifetime.
Millie passed into the arms of Jesus on March 6, 2022, in Newberg, Oregon, two months before her ninety-sixth birthday. She is survived by her sister, June Osborn, of Wright City, Oklahoma, and brother Ronnie (Pam) Bess of Big Cedar, Oklahoma; 6 children, 31 grandchildren, 65 great-grandchildren, and 24 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jasper and Lola; sisters Wanda and Delores; brothers Don, Ray, and Earl; and three of her beloved children: Larry, Shane, and Teresa.
Services will be held at New Hope Church, 37180 Gore Drive, Lebanon, Oregon, 97355, on Saturday, March 19, 2022, at 1:00 pm, with viewing prior to the service from noon to 12:30 pm in the sanctuary at New Hope Church. The burial processional will take place to nearby Mt. Home Cemetery immediately following the service. A reception/meal for everyone who wishes to gather to remember Millie will take place in the New Hope Church fellowship hall, hosted by the family after the internment.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an obituary?

An obituary is a written notice of a person's death, often including a brief biography of the deceased's life. It is commonly published in newspapers and online platforms to inform the community of the loss and provide details about the funeral arrangements.

Who writes obituaries?

Obituaries can be written by family members, friends, or funeral home staff. In some cases, individuals write their own obituaries before they pass away. Professional journalists also write obituaries for prominent figures.

What information is included in an obituary?

An obituary typically includes the full name of the deceased, dates of birth and death, a summary of their life achievements, family members, details about the funeral or memorial services, and any charitable organizations to which donations can be made in lieu of flowers.

How does one start writing an obituary?

Start by gathering important information about the deceased, including their personal history, family details, and any special requests they may have had for their obituary. Proceed by writing a draft that celebrates their life in a respectful and honoring manner.

What is the difference between an obituary and a death notice?

An obituary is a more detailed account of the person's life and is often written in a narrative style. A death notice is a shorter announcement that merely notes the passing and service details and is often paid for by the family.

Is it necessary to publish an obituary?

It is not legally required to publish an obituary, but it is a widely accepted practice to inform the community and honor the person who has passed away.

Where can I publish an obituary?

Obituaries can be published in local newspapers, online obituary sites, social media, community bulletin boards, and sometimes in national newspapers, depending on the individual’s reach and significance.

How much does it typically cost to publish an obituary?

The cost to publish an obituary varies based on the chosen publication and its pricing structure (often charged by line, word, or column inch), as well as the length of the obituary. Online postings can be less expensive or even free.

Can I include a photo in the obituary?

Yes, a photo can be included in an obituary. Many publications allow for a photograph of the deceased to be published alongside the text.

How long after a death is the obituary published?

Obituaries are typically published within a week after the death, but the timing can vary depending on the publication deadlines and the wishes of the family.

Is it appropriate to add personal anecdotes in an obituary?

Yes, personal anecdotes can be a beautiful way to reflect the personality and spirit of the deceased, as long as they are respectful and considerate to all who are mourning.

How can I ensure the obituary is seen by everyone who knew the person?

Publish the obituary in the local newspapers, online platforms, and social media, and inform friends and family directly to make certain the notice reaches as many people as possible.

Should an obituary mention the cause of death?

Including the cause of death is optional and should be based upon the preferences of the family and, if known, the wishes of the deceased.

What should I do if I find an error in an obituary after it's published?

Contact the publication immediately to correct the error. Most newspapers and online sites will make necessary revisions as soon as they are notified.

Can an obituary include religious texts or poetry?

Yes, many obituaries include verses from religious texts, poems, or inspirational quotes that were meaningful to the deceased or the family.

Is it necessary to list all of the deceased's relatives?

It is not necessary to list all relatives but typically includes immediate family and any other significant relations. The final list should balance honoring important relationships and the space limitations of the obituary.

How do I handle writing an obituary for someone with a complicated family situation?

Handle such situations with sensitivity and respect. Include family members who were part of the deceased's life in a meaningful way, and consider discussing the content with close family members before publishing.

Can obituaries be updated after initial publication?

It is not common to update an obituary after initial publication unless there is a significant error. Any additional information can be shared through other means such as a memorial service or family announcements.

What if the deceased had special wishes regarding their obituary?

If the deceased had specific requests for their obituary, do your best to honor these wishes in terms of the content, tone, and choice of publication.

Are there any privacy concerns with publishing an obituary?

Privacy concerns should be considered, particularly with sharing details that might make the deceased's loved ones vulnerable to fraud, such as full birthdates or addresses. Share only as much information as is necessary and comfortable for the family.

How can I make an obituary more personal?

To personalize an obituary, you can include hobbies, passions, humorous anecdotes, and stories of accomplishments. The goal is to capture the essence of the individual's life, not just the facts.
