Winston was a humble, hardworking, and dedicated individual. To many of us, he was a brother, a son, an uncle, and a friend. At the core of his life, however, he was a trucker - and he was exceptionally proud of the career he built over countless hours spent behind the wheel of his rig. His life on the road afforded him the opportunity to crisscross this beautiful country countless times, and along the way, forge connections and friendships that would last a lifetime.

Winston was the first person who could find joy in the most ordinary things. He didn't boast about how many miles he had driven or places he had seen. He took each load, each town, each highway as a brand-new experience, and he reveled in the freedom and peace that only open roads could provide. Listening to his laughter as he shared his stories would pull you in, and, for a moment, you were in that passenger seat alongside him.

Sometimes, people would ask Winston why he chose to spend so much of his life on the road, and his response was always the same: "The open road is my chance to meet new people, and to understand a small part of someone else's life. That is what makes it worthwhile." He was a man who found inspiration in the kinship of his fellow truckers, the people he helped, and the adventure that awaited around every bend.

Winston taught us many things. He showed us that perseverance and dedication are qualities that can transcend any obstacles life may throw our way. He taught us to find joy in the simplest of things, to appreciate the beauty that can be found in the most unexpected places, and most importantly, to treasure the friendships and relationships we create along our own journeys.

But Winston's greatest gift to us was his indomitable spirit. As we go forth from this day, let us remember to carry that spirit with us. Let us seek out the extraordinary within the ordinary, and find the beauty that shimmers just beneath the surface. Let us cherish our friends, and give warmth and comfort to one another.

As we say our final goodbyes to my dear brother Winston, I'm reminded of one of his favorite sayings he would tell me whenever we would part; “The road may be long and winding, filled with twists and turns, but remember, it always leads you home.”

Though Winston's journey on this earth has ended, his love and his spirit live on through each person he has touched. May we all find solace in our memories of him, and let us carry the torch of dedication, humility, and inspiration that he has passed on to us.

Rest in peace, Winston Gardner—a humble and inspirational man. You will always be remembered, and you will be dearly missed.
