Obituary Preview: Mary Martha Turon of Greenville NY, widow of George Turon, Jr. passed away on Friday July 26, 2019.
Martha was born in South Westerlo on August 23, 1922, daughter of the late Darius H. and Irma Cleveland Rundell. She was a wonderful cook/baker who worked for many years in the boarding houses and resorts in the Greenville area. Martha, who was a talented musician, loved her music, gardening, and crossword puzzles.
She is survived by her daughter Sally Jane Carlin (Stuart) of Summerville SC, son Leland George of Greenville NY; grandchildren, Eric (Christina), Kyle, Erin, and Tara Turon, and Ryan, Brandon (Laurene) and Rhett Carlin (Michelle). She is also survived by great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and her sister-in-law Elsie Turon.
She was predeceased by her sons, Kenneth Wayne Turon and Gary Michael Turon, sister Ruth Grenci and brother Horace Rundell.

Obituary Preview: GREENVILLE – Anthony "Tony" Scanlon, 79, passed away on Sunday, July 14, 2019 at Albany Medical Center. Tony was born in Dingle, County Kerry, Ireland on Sept. 22, 1939, son of the late Padraig and Margaret Driscoll Scanlon. He grew up in Ireland and spent 5 years in England before coming to America in 1963. He lived for several years in Virginia before settling in the Bronx. Tony worked as a paper handler at the New York Times for many years, and part-time at the Daily News and the New York Post. After marriage and while raising their family in the Bronx, Tony and Mary vacationed in Greene County, eventually retiring in Greenville. Tony was a member of the Greenville American Legion Post 291, and a former member of the Kerrymens Association in the Bronx. Tony had a beautiful singing voice, and played the tin whistle, as well as many other instruments. He volunteered at Eden Park Nursing Home in Catskill, entertaining the residents with music, and formerly sang in the choir at Our Lady of Knock Shrine in East Durham.
Tony is the beloved husband of 51 years of Mary Martin Scanlon; loving father of Margaret Scanlon-Amorin (Marcos), Eileen Helly (Mark), Angela Scanlon Santarelli, Elizabeth Leahy (Timmy), and the late Patrick Anthony Scanlon, who died in 1971 at age 9 months; proud grandfather of Joseph Kelly (Emily), Padraig and Ciara Leahy, Mairead and Fiona Helly, and Zander Santarelli, and great-grandfather of Jane Kelly. Tony was one of 15 siblings, four of whom survive in Ireland and England, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Born in Manhattan on February 18, 1942, she was daughter of the late Anthony and Sadie DellaUniversita Guma. Jo-Ann lived in Queens until moving to Greenville in 1968. She was a waitress for many years at the former Mary's Restaurant and the former John's Pizzeria, both in Greenville, retiring several years ago. Jo-Ann was a believer and a member of New Day Fellowship in Cairo. She loved animals and people, welcoming everyone as a friend.
Jo-Ann is survived by her husband, Richard W. Powell; children, Kari/Karen-Ann Spain O'Connor (Joseph), Thomas F. Spain, and Christopher (Christine) Spain; step-children, Charles (Melinda) Spain, John L. (Maria) Spain, James (Lynn) Spain, and Cherie Spain Fallar: granddaughters, Colett, Alexis, Emily, and Jayme Spain; grandsons, Matthew, Sean, and Jacob Spain, and Connor Fallar; sister, Leonora (Gerard) Vairo and nephews, Gerard Jr. (Gloria) and James.

He was born on February 6, 1948 in Attleboro, MA to the late James J. and Gloria I. Wilbur Correia. Joseph resided in Freehold and was a private contractor. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Darcy Griffin Correia.
Joseph is survived by his daughter, Evangeline (Edward) Van Auken; his grandchildren, Alexandria (Lance) Robertson, and Edward, Elizabeth, and Sam Van Auken; his siblings, Margaret (Steve) Case, and Richard (Cheryl) and Robert Correia; and many nieces and nephews.

Obituary Preview: OAK HILL – Bruce D. DeGeyter, 70, passed away on Monday July 8, 2019 at St. Peter's Hospital. He was born on February 3, 1949 in Paterson, NJ to the late Victor and Barbara Provan DeGeyter. He was raised in West Milford, NJ and the day that he graduated high school, his family moved to Oak Hill, where he's resided since. On October 12, 1975, he married Sheila Bullivant and they spent 43 happily married years together. Bruce had numerous job titles, including surveyor, real estate agent, milk delivery man, farmer, furniture maker, carpenter, logger, and finally, excavator. He was a prominent member of the Durham Oak Hill United Methodist Church, having served as chairman of the trustees, a member of the adult choir, and as the head of the youth group for many years. He also volunteered as a soccer coach for all three of his children. Bruce was a hard working, kind hearted, Christian man, and helped many members of the community. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved boating, fishing, hunting, camping, and just being in the woods.
Bruce is survived by his beloved wife, Sheila; his children, Nathaniel (Heather), Alison (Brian) Thela, and James DeGeyter; his grandchildren, Bryan and Jarrod DeGeyter and Elizabeth and Brandon Thela; his brothers, Jeffrey (Elaine) and Terrance (Pamela) DeGeyter; and many nieces and nephews.

Ruth Christine Hannay - December 28, 1951 - July 05, 2019

Obituary Preview: Ruth Christine Hannay, 67, of Westerlo died on Friday, July 5, 2019. Ruth was valedictorian of her class at Berne-Knox-Westerlo High School; she earned her undergraduate degree in Biology at Gordon College in Wenham, Massachusetts, and her M.L.S. Degree in Information Science from the University at Albany.
Ruth worked at several libraries, most notably as the founding librarian of the Westerlo Town Library at its current location. She volunteered at the Free Clinic of the Capital City Rescue Mission, and served for many years as Church Clerk and Librarian of the First Baptist Church of Westerlo. She continued in the traditions of her grandmother Hazel Barber Hannay with her love for the church and missions--She communicated directly with the Church's missionaries as part of the Global Task Force. She also served the Church as Assistant Director and Registrar of the Vacation Bible School, as Coordinator of the Pioneer Girls Clubs, and as Treasurer of the MBI Guild. Ruth was a dear friend to many in Westerlo, providing rides and help to those in need.
Ruth was predeceased by her parents, George and Emma Rogers Hannay, and by her sister Loraine Adele Hannay, and brother Roger Allen Hannay (Sherley). She is survived by her brother David Hannay (Ann) of Westerlo, and her sisters, Deborah Hannay VanDerMolen (Ed) of St. Charles, Illinois, and Sarah Hannay Schoof (Ron) of Bremerton, Washington. She leaves behind 11 nieces and nephews who all loved their Aunt Ruthie.
Ruth had a brilliant mind, and enjoyed all sorts of word games. She was almost always able to come up with the answers on TV shows like Jeopardy before the on-air contestants. She served as an excellent proofreader not only for her Church, but also for the family business, Hannay Reels.

Obituary Preview: Owen S. Mudge, Sr., a lifelong resident of the Ravena-Coeymans area, was born in Albany on April 27, 1927. He entered into eternal life on Monday, July 1,2019 at Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility in Amsterdam.
Owen was the son of the late Edward W. and Rosanna M. (Sorell) Mudge and the elder brother of the late Dora (Mudge) Kebea. Owen graduated early from Ravena-Coeymans High School, joined the U.S. Navy at the age of 17 and honorably served his country during World War II.
On May 9, 1953, he married the love of his life, Angela M. (Morrell) Mudge of Ravena, who predeceased him on March 11, 2017. He and Angie did everything together over the course of more than six decades, including setting an indelible example for their children of just what love is.
Owen is survived by four children who could not imagine having a more devoted and loving father: Patricia Britton (Ralph) of Ravena, Gloria Tesiero (John, III) of Amsterdam, Edward Mudge, Sr. (CherylAnn) of Coxsackie and Owen Mudge, Jr. (Kimberly) of Pacifica, California. Seven grandchildren, each of whom will miss him dearly, survive Owen: Brian Britton, Michael Britton (Alyson), John Tesiero, IV (Incarnata), Justine Coman (Joseph), Edward Mudge, Jr. (Alexandra), VeronicaAnn Tahan (Joseph), and Sarah Mudge. Owen is also survived by four great grandchildren, in whom he took special pride: Wyatt Britton, Valentina Tesiero, John Tesiero, V, and Jackson Coman.
Owen served his community for decades as Ravena Justice of the Peace and as Coeymans Town Justice. He was employed by Metropolitan Life Insurance Company for over thirty years. Owen enjoyed doing everything with his wife, Angie; dancing with his daughters; hunting, fishing and playing baseball with his sons; spending all the time he could with his grandchildren; watching sports of all kinds; and taking trips to Cape Cod and the Jersey shore.
A calling hour will be held at St. Patrick's Church, 21 Main Street in Ravena from 10am to 11am on Friday July 5, to be followed at 11am by a Mass of Christian Burial at the same location. Burial with Military Honors will follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery, Coeymans.

She was born on November 13, 1933 in Orono, Maine to the late Ivan Lancaster and Cecile Messier. She graduated from St Mary’s School in Orono in 1952 and on September 27, 1958 she married Francis Charles Fusco in Cornwall, NY. Wanda spent many years living in Booneville, Arkansas with Frank where they had many close friends. They then moved to Greenville, where she then lived with her sister. Wanda was happily married to her late husband, Frank, for 53 years before he passed away in 2012. She was an avid reader, she loved to cook and bake, and was devoted to her faith.
Wanda is survived by her sister, Claudette Holland; her nephews, John and James Holland (Wife Jayne); her niece, Anne Amedure (Husband Richard); her grandnephews and nieces: Michael Amedure, Michael and Justin Hanson, Sarah Amedure, Elizabeth Holland, and Kristen Hanson; and her honorary grandchildren from Arkansas, Leigh, Mason and Lindsey Shirey.

Obituary Preview: GREENVILLE - Marvin "Marv" R.B. Smith, 71, passed away on June 12, 2019 with his loving family at his bedside. He was born July 28, 1947, son of Dolores and the late Clayton Smith, in Catskill, New York. Marv graduated from Cairo Central School and then joined the Navy where he served on the aircraft carriers Constellation and Ranger as a jet mechanic. His missions required landing on Vietnamese soil and extensive air support of the ground troops. After serving for 4 years he was honorably discharged with the rank of E-5. Marv's love of planes stayed with him for the rest of his life.
Marv married his high school sweetheart, Ralene, in 1969. In 1971 Marv began working for G.E. Plastics in Selkirk, NY His career at G.E. spanned 36 years, 22 of which were spent as a Production Coordinator until his retirement in 2007.
Marv was very active in his community and spent many years on the board of Christ Episcopal Church. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 291, the Rensselaerville Historical Society, the Durham Republican Club, and a board member of the Durham Center Museum and trustee of Greenville Cemetery. Marv owned a winter home in Oro Valley, Arizona for 18 years, where he was a member of the water volleyball, wallyball, pop tennis, and genealogy clubs. Marv loved genealogy and spent 25+ years researching his and friends' family histories. He also loved hiking in the desert and the Santa Catalina Mountains. Marv was a pillar of support for those who needed it and a true friend to everyone who knew him.
Marv is survived by his mother Dolores; brother Donald (Linda) Smith; son Wayne (Kelly Sweeney) Smith; daughter Michelle (Tony) Smith-Ferraro, and grandson Wyatt Beaumont; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Ralene (nee Knott); his father, Clayton, Sr.; and his youngest brother Clayton, Jr.

A woman of quiet strength, she joins her husband, Al, who predeceased her in 2000, and her daughter, Linda. Beverly was born on October 15, 1937 in Suffern, NY to the late George and Marion Sisco Maxwell. Her life was surrounded by her daughters and her grandchildren. Her German Shepard, Wolf, was her constant companion. Beverly spent her days enjoying putting together puzzles and watching old westerns. She lived a contented life with her greatest accomplishments being that of her daughters. A love of horses in Beverly's younger years found her surrounded by them.
Beverly is survived by her daughters, Susan Eardley and Peggy (Bob) Bolduc; her grandchildren, Brian, Joe, and Allie; her brother, George (Samantha) Maxwell of Texas; and many nieces, nephews, and a special cousin, Anite.

She was born in Preston Hollow on June 21, 1932 to the late Clifton and Blanche Hull Hess. She attended the one room schoolhouse in Preston Hollow before graduating from Middleburgh Central School. A couple weeks after graduation, she began her career at the Pioneer Insurance Company in Greenville, where she worked for over 30 years until her retirement. Evelyn was a Grand Matron in the Order of the Eastern Star during the 1960's and was also a member of the DAR. She enjoyed cooking and taking care of her family. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her daughter and son-in-law, Eileen and Harry Ketcham.
Evelyn is survived by her beloved husband, Stannard S. Mackey; her daughters, Rita Mackey and Cathy Calder; her grandchildren, Harry Mack Ketcham III, Troy Ketcham, Lindsay Castagna, and Bryton Calder; and her great-grandchildren, Carter, Paige, and Myla Castagna and Colby and Taylor Ketcham.

Alice Janet Armstrong - March 19, 1934 - May 29, 2019

Obituary Preview: CORNWALLVILLE - Alice Janet Armstrong passed away on May 29th at the Hospice Inn of St.. Peter’s Hospital in Albany. She was 85. “Janet”, as she was known throughout her life, was born on March 19, 1934 on the family farm in Durham, the daughter of the late Norman and Evelyn Teator. She grew up in a large, busy household, actively engaged in farm life through the years of the Great Depression and World War II. Janet attended Durham Central School and Greenville Central High School, graduating from each as valedictorian. After graduation, Janet worked at the Pioneer Insurance Company in Greenville until she married Robert Armstrong on June 7, 1953. She then began her lifelong role as wife and mother. Janet was a steadfast partner as Robert engaged in farming, factory work, public office, and other occupations. She also returned to work at Eastern Cooperative Insurance Company, from which she eventually retired. Together she and Robert raised their four children, and then joyfully welcomed several grandchildren, and step-grandchildren. Upon retirement, Robert and Janet enjoyed family activities, community activities, travel, and their winter home in Florida. They also enjoyed many social activities with their large circle of friends and family members. Janet was a fifty-year member of the East Durham Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, and a member of the Oak Hill-Durham United Methodist Church. After Robert’s death, Janet continued her role as a treasured mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, giving freely of her wisdom and unconditional love. Janet was a kind, loving, generous person of intelligence, humility, quiet strength, and character. No one knew these qualities better than her family, who were blessed by her presence and will miss her every day.
Janet is survived by her children, Robert Jr. (Bonnie), Claudia Every (Gene), Jennifer Ganzhorn (Dann), and Lawrence (Michele); her grandchildren, Robin Armstrong, Amanda Stegner (Chris), Lisa MacNeill (Kevin), Nicole Brudapast, Jackie Murray, Robert J. Armstrong, and Megan Armstrong; and her great grandchildren Cora Stegner and Emmalyn MacNeill. Janet was blessed with step grandchildren, Susan Carpenter (John), Cynthia Bennardo (Rocco), Michelle Every, Kimberly Murphy; and step great grandchildren, Jose, Rocco, Damon, Antonio, Arianna, Kristoffer, Samantha, Blake, and Brady. Janet is also survived by her sister in law Stella Teator; and by nieces and nephews, Deborah Maikis, David Armstrong, Gary Teator, Mark Teator, Darren Teator, Jay Teator, Sharon Hayner, and William Teator.
Janet was predeceased by her husband Robert, her parents, her in-laws Clarence and Edna Armstrong, her sisters Dorothy Turner and Shirley Teator Ritter, her brothers Howard Teator and Raymond Teator, brothers-in-law Herbert Armstrong and Edward Ritter, sisters-in-law Barbara Teator and Trudy Armstrong, and niece Linda Ruocco.
Janet is also survived by and predeceased by many uncles, aunts, and cousins and their families whose friendship and family ties were precious to her throughout her life.

Obituary Preview: GREENVILLE – Anita (Rizzuto) DeGiovine entered eternal life on May 23, 2019 surrounded by her family. Anita was born on March 1, 1928 to the late Elizabeth (Steck) and Leonardo Rizzuto in Brooklyn, NY. She had an older step-brother and sister, Charles Ganzert and Catherine Reno. She had a younger sister, Caroline (Rizzuto) Badami. All predeceased her.
Anita attended PS 214 and East New York Vocational School, where she graduated with a secretarial degree. She worked for a time in the fashion industry in NYC before marrying Richard DeGiovine on November 26, 1949. Anita and Richard had five children: Christopher, Leonard (Jyl), the late Richard (Cindy), Stacey, and Maria (Mark) Jennings. She has 9 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. After the death of Richard, Anita married James (bud) Schaeffer and enjoyed many years traveling and enjoying retirement.
Anita and Richard moved their family to Greenville in 1955, where she has resided ever since. In addition to the fashion industry, Anita worked in the insurance and hospitality industries. Anita was a woman of great faith, who treasured her parish of St. John the Baptist and served many ministries there. In her retirement, Anita served on and traveled with several senior citizen groups. But, by far, Anita's greatest passions were caring for her family, making friends wherever she went, and cooking fantastic meals.
Special thanks to her caregivers, who became family during her prolonged illness: Kelly Marfioti, Melissa Lovelock, and Renee Chase.
The world is sadder today for her departure. May she rest in peace.

Doris was employed as an administrative assistant at Barber Oil Company in New York City and, after moving to Baldwin, Long Island in 1959, she worked in the same capacity for a medical practice. She was a member and Sunday School teacher at First Presbyterian Church in Baldwin, and was a Cub Scout leader and Den Mother for her sons. Following retirement, she and her husband Herbert moved to Greenville in 1998, having vacationed here for many years. Doris was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church of Norton Hill.
Doris is survived by her sons, Ronald (Lisa) Kiedaisch and Randy (Teri) Kiedaisch; three granddaughters, Lauren, Christa and Michelle Kiedaisch; two sisters, Ruth Maines and Carole Lesher; and her dear friend and companion, Paul Haczela. In addition to her parents, Doris was predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Herbert Kiedaisch, on June 19, 2011.

Survivors include: his son Dennison, his brother Robert, several (great) nieces and nephews and many cousins.
Bill lived in Medusa most of his life. He was an engineer for the NYS DOT, a school bus driver for Greenville Central School; and was a carpenter and painter. Moreover, Bill operated the Sugar Bush Shop in Medusa, and played the organ at the United Church of Christ, in Medusa, since 1978.
He served the community by writing the "Medusa Happenings" column for the Greenville Local, Press, and Pioneer Newspapers, being a member and Trustee of the Rensselaerville Historical Society, the driving force for the "History of Medusa Museum", located in the Medusa United Church of Christ, member and past president of the Rensselaerville Seniors Club, member of the Medusa Volunteer Fire Company, serving as secretary and bingo chairman; and an assessor for the Town of Rensselaerville.

Kenneth is survived by his beloved wife, Corrine LiVecchi Wood; his children, Scott and Cory Wood; his mother, Lillian Wood; his brothers, Keith (Krista), Alvin (Valerie), and James (Tammy) Wood; and many nieces and nephews.

She was born on July 12, 1932 in San Diego to the late James and Roberta Hubbard Gullett. With her father in the Navy, she traveled around the country while she was growing up. She was very musically talented, having played the violin, and was playing the French horn in the Honolulu Symphony when she met her husband, the late James Briody. After they were married, they moved to NYC where they raised their family. They then moved to Pearl River, where they resided for 40 years, until James' death in June of 2013. She moved to Westerlo in 2013 and then finally to Greenville in 2017. Roberta had been the president of the Iota Delta chapter of the Sigma Alpha Iota, a national professional women's music fraternity. She enjoyed crocheting and gardening, was a talented seamstress, and had a great love for all animals. In addition to her parents, and her beloved husband of 57 years, she was also predeceased by her daughter, Margaret, and her brother, Charles Hubbard Gullett.
Roberta is survived by her children, John (Frances) Briody, Kathleen (Laurence) Ridings, and Elizabeth (Carl) Amdor; her grandchildren, Michelle, Sean, Amanda, Jacqueline, and James; and many nieces and nephews.

He loved gardening, his fish tanks, trains, and his dogs.
Joseph is survived by his wife, Evelyn; his children, Kristen (Leo, Jr.) Klemke and Joseph Powazi; and many cousins who were like his brothers and sisters.

He was first diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma at age 28, and successfully conquered two occurrences before being diagnosed again in October 2018.
Charles is survived by his son, Mason, age 18, who is due to graduate from Greenville Central School in June; his siblings, John Steele and his wife, Vicky; Joanne Steele and her partner, Tim Zinn; Eileen Filardo and her husband, Joe; Michael Steele and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Charles was predeceased by his sister, Agnes Bailey in 2015.

She quickly caught the eye of Patrick Moloney (predeceased on January 10, 2018) and they were wed on June 26, 1965. Kathleen, from a very young age, was full of love and devoted her time to being a caregiver. While raising her children, Kathleen worked and volunteered at many nursing homes in the Catskill and Albany area, always believing, at the very least, she can help the world be a better place. Some of the advice she is remembered for is "It's a great life, if you don't weaken." and, "Silence is golden.", both of which are words to live by.
Kathleen is predeceased by the love of her life, Patrick, and is survived by her loving daughter Leona and her son Brian, her son-in-law Dennis, her daughter-in-law Kimberly, and her grandchildren Connor, Sam and Grace, along with longtime friends Kathleen and James Unitas, and Dennis and Violet Statham. She is also survived by her niece Sharon, and several nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, all in various locales throughout the world.
