Lawrence Louis Schultheis, 97, of Newburgh, passed away on Sunday, February 11, 2024, at Woodlands Rehabilitation Center. He was born on January 13, 1927, in Evansville, Indiana.
Lawrence (Larry) was a 1945 graduate of Reitz Memorial High School. After serving in the US Army, he attended Butler University in Indianapolis, IN, earning a BS degree in Pharmacy. Larry married Rose Marie Ellspermann on February 9, 1952, and they shared 58 years of marriage before her passing in 2010. They were blessed to have 7 children, 19 grandchildren, and 35 great-grandchildren.
After working at several area pharmacies, Larry embarked on a dream to open his own pharmacy. He owned Oak Hill Pharmacy, which closed in 2015, after serving the Evansville community for 60 years. Especially in the early years, he worked long hours to make his business a success, and the pharmacy provided essential medication to thousands of loyal customers. He valued family time and always took great pride in his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Larry was a very generous and patient man, and strong in his faith. He was also very humble but his competitive nature tended to override this on the golf course. He wasn’t above a little good natured “trash talking”. He loved golf and watching golf tournaments provided much entertainment in his later years; especially following his favorite players, Jordon Spieth and Rory Mcllroy. He enthusiastically followed and supported his beloved Memorial Tigers.
He was a member of St. Benedict Cathedral and in recent years attended Mass at Holy Rosary with his children.
He is survived by his daughters, Judy Keith (Wayne) of Harrison, AR; Debbie Kremer (Bob) of Evansville; Angie Theising (Steve) of Newburgh; sons, Michael Schultheis (Claudia) and Larry Schultheis (Elaine) of Newburgh; Patrick Schultheis (Megan) of Cincinnati, Ohio; and Ronald Schultheis (Colleen) of Loveland, Ohio. His grandchildren, Michelle Willis, Christy Sagehorn, Brian Kremer, Kelly Paul, John Kremer, Steven Theising, Michael Theising, Andy Theising, Matthew Schultheis, Joseph Schultheis, Sarah Moore, Reid Schultheis, Ryan Schultheis, Jake Schultheis, Ben Schultheis, Emily Taylor, Sam Schultheis, Chris Schultheis, Charlie Schultheis, and 35 great-grandchildren. Sisters, Margaret Schnur and Louise (Bill) Spahn and sisters-in-law, Cecelia Marie Schultheis and Dorothy Schultheis.
Larry was preceded in death by his wife, Rose Marie; parents, Joseph and Lillian (Bengert) Schultheis; sisters, Rosemary Schultheis and Mildred Helfrich; and brothers, Joseph, Fred, Leo, and Ed Schultheis.
Visitation will be Thursday, February 15, 2024, from 3:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, 800 S. Hebron Avenue, Evansville, IN, where a Memorial Service will be held at 7:30 p.m.
