Obituary Preview: David L. “Beef” Larsen, 79, of Post Falls, Idaho passed away on April 30, 2024. He was born on February 17, 1945 in Valley City, North Dakota.

Having graduated from Coeur d’Alene High School in 1963, he continued his education at North Idaho Junior College.

David was married to Claudia “CJ” (Austin) Larsen on September 22, 2002 in Rochester, New York.

He served in the Washington Air National Guard in the mid 1960’s. He was employed as a ticket agent by Northwest Airlines in Spokane, Tampa, Florida, and

Kalispell, Montana for 37 years.

Residences included Coeur d’Alene, Tampa, Kalispell, Paradise, Montana and Post Falls, Idaho.

Upon retirement, David enjoyed working at Quinn’s Hot Springs Resort and living on the Clark Fork River in Paradise, Montana moving to Post Falls in 2019.

As an avid Chicago Cubs fan, he also enjoyed fly fishing, as well as serving as a member of the Post Falls Kiwanis Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee (McQueen) and Philip Larsen, his sister, Kay’d (Larsen) Olson. Survivors include his wife, Claudia “CJ”; daughters: Kirsten (John) Long, of Sitka, Alaska; Jennifer (Tim) Hembree of Lacey, Washington; brother, Kent (Susan) Larsen of Post Falls, Idaho; sister, Jeanne (Chuck) Baranski of Shelton, Washington; grandchildren: Carter and Matthew Long of Sitka; Joshua and Samantha Hembree of Lacey, Washington.

During the holidays, David loved playing Santa Claus and was a loyal supporter of “Toys for Tots.

Obituary Preview: Edith Brehm’s story began on May 7, 1936 in Nordenham, Germany. She was the last of seven siblings born to Hermann and Berta Roesse. Edith’s childhood was defined by the events of WWII, teaching her strength, determination, and courage. At the age of 18 she immigrated to Chicago, where she met her husband Daniel Brehm. They were blessed with two daughters (Christine (Craig) Ely and Michelle (David) Gant), four grandchildren by blood and marriage (Nicholas Gant, Aimee Gant, Katrina (Nicholas) Peterson, and Jay (Andrea) Ely) and four great-grandchildren (Ellie Gant, Calvin Gant, Adriana Ely, and Thomas Ely).

Edith lived in Hayden Lake, Idaho for the last 50 years. She found endless joy in her friends and family, her flower garden, and her dogs. Edith’s family will always remember her as an incredibly generous soul with excellent taste in food and flair for entertaining. She never said no to a good party, card game, or steak. We hold up a glass of your favorite Chardonnay in toast to you, Edith, for all the joy, love, and German sass you’ve brought to our family. Thank you for the memories.

Eleanor Lee Grannis - June 13, 1931 - April 13, 2024

Obituary Preview: Eleanor L. Grannis, 92, of Coeur d’Alene passed away at Orchard Ridge Memory Care on Saturday, April 13, 2024. Eleanor was born in Potlatch, Idaho on June 13, 1931 to Clifford F. Anderson and Eleanor Lee Anderson. The family moved to Coeur d’Alene when Eleanor was five and she graduated from Coeur d’Alene High School in 1949.

Eleanor married Raymond Grannis on April 6, 1950 in Coeur d'Alene. Their son, Mark, was born in Colorado Springs while Ray was on active duty in the Idaho National Guard during the Korean conflict. Daughter, Lynette, was born in Coeur d’Alene after they returned from Colorado Springs. Eleanor worked alongside Ray in their petroleum business until she retired. Ray and Eleanor sold the business in 2019 and he passed away in 2020 after 69 years of marriage.

Eleanor was a member of First Presbyterian Church, P.E.O. Chapter BF, Daughters of the Nile, Campfire Girls, and Jobs Daughters. She was an avid bridge player participating in several bridge groups. Eleanor was a generous supporter of several local charities. She enjoyed many sports throughout her life including bowling, snow skiing, ice skating, water skiing, snowmobiling, was an excellent swimmer, and a huge fan of men’s and women’s Gonzaga basketball. She loved animals and traveling with Ray.

Eleanor is survived by son, Mark (wife, Nancy) Grannis of Twin Lakes; daughter, Lynette (husband, Michael) Arhutick of Coeur d’Alene; four grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and her sister, Leone Patzer of Coeur d’Alene. Eleanor’s family was very important to her.

Howard Fredrick Sevdy - September 30, 1938 - April 13, 2024

Obituary Preview: Howard F. Sevdy of Hayden, Idaho, beloved brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2024 at the age of 85.

Howard was born on September 30, 1938, to Jess and Violet (Krueger) Sevdy, and grew up in Coeur d'Alene and Hayden Lake with his four brothers, Marvin, Laverne (Buddy), Delbert, and John.

Howard graduated from Coeur d'Alene High School in 1956 and furthered his education at North Idaho Junior College. Following his passion for service, Howard joined the Marine Reserve, stationed in Spokane, Washington, from 1955 to 1961. After his service, he embarked on a fulfilling career at Kaiser Aluminum for 21 years, where he excelled as an overhead crane operator in the SAWS department.

Howard's love for golf shone brightly throughout his life. He distinguished himself as a professional golfer, holding the position as the first golf pro at Avondale Golf Course and assistant golf pro at Hayden Lake Resort Golf Club where he had the honor of being in the caddy group for President Kennedy during his visit, a testament to his expertise and dedication to the sport. He also acted as head Golf pro at Colfax Country Club in Washington.

Beyond golf, Howard's passion for life was evident in the time he spent with his family and his dear friend Judy in Hayden, where they enjoyed boating, swimming, and exploring the great outdoors.

He cherished moments spent with his brother John and his family Barbara, Greg, and Kim in Winston, Oregon, sharing in the beauty of the outdoors and creating lasting memories together.

Howard was also a dedicated member of the Elks Club and Eagles Lodge, where he found joy in serving his community and fostering friendships. Other passions included his love for photography, as he captured countless memories and preserved the family's history for generations to come.

Howard's legacy is defined not only by his professional accomplishments and talents but by the warmth and kindness he extended to all who knew him. His presence will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and the community he touched with his generous spirit and love for life.

Howard is survived by his brother, John; as well as his sister-in-law, Barbara; nephew, Greg (and wife, Amy); and niece, Kim (and husband, Calen). He also leaves behind great niece and nephews -- Ella, Andrew, Theo, Micah, and Ari.

In honoring Howard's memory, may we find solace in the cherished moments shared and the impact he made in the hearts of those whose lives he enriched. Howard's legacy lives on through the memories we hold dear and the lessons of dedication, passion, and kindness he instilled in all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Lee served in the Army National Guard. He married JoAnn Santora in 1961. They spent many years working together side by side managing properties in Washington, California, and Hawaii. They retired together at Garfield Bay on Lake Pend Oreille. Lee loved to hunt and fish and dance with JoAnn.

Lee was predeceased by his mother and father, Clarence and Lillie Peters; his wife, JoAnn Peters; his grandson, Anthony Peters; and his son, Greg Peters. Lee is survived by his son, Doug Peters and wife, Connie Peters; his daughter, LeeAnn Jacot and husband, Neil Jacot; his daughter, Jody Hendrex and husband, Erik Hendrex; daughter-in-law, Sue Peters; eight grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.

Richard "Dave" David Welts - September 01, 1939 - March 25, 2024

Obituary Preview: Richard David Welts, #11011, Sergeant II, of the Los Angeles Police Department was born on Friday, September 1, 1939, in Los Angeles, and was called home, concluding his final EOW on Monday, March 25, 2024 at the Schneidmiller Hospice House in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.

As a US Navy Veteran, Dave served aboard the USS Helena (CA-75) as a 3-inch/50-caliber Loader and Captain's Driver. He served and protected the City of Los Angeles as a Police Officer for 30 years across several divisions, of which, Metro Division he was most proud of. Most notably he was an original member (#18) of S.W.A.T. as we know it today, which was historically significant in paving the way for the advancement of modern police tactics.

Dave was an integral part of planning the security of the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics and consulted on the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. He planned, coordinated, and led the security detail of Pope John Paul the II's 1987 visit to Los Angeles, a journey which took him to Germany, Miami, New Orleans, and San Antonio prior to the Pope’s arrival in Los Angeles – in total 6 Papal masses. Dave worked with the CIA and Secret Service on Presidential protection details for Presidents Reagan and Bush (Sr), when they were in Los Angeles, amongst many other heads of state and foreign dignitaries. He was a 'Metro Man' and always honoured what it meant to be one even in retirement.

He received his Lifetime Teaching Credentials from UCLA and was an instructor at several colleges, most notably at Rio Hondo Police Academy. He enjoyed many hobbies, including collecting coins and guns, fishing and boating with friends and family. He lived a full life going on many adventures across the United States, Europe, Asia, the South Pacific, Australia, and New Zealand. Many will remember Dave by his great sense of humour, the smile hidden beneath his moustache, Karen’s and his Blue Heeler, Mystery, who was his faithful companion and was always by his side, and last but not least his true friendship to many. Above all else, he took his role as provider and protector of his family very seriously.

Dave was the youngest son of Fred and Myrle Welts and is survived by his wife, Karen of 57 years; son, Steve; daughter-in-law, Laurie; sons: Ron, Greg and Brian; daughter-in-law, Simone; along with grandchildren, Joshua and Sienna; as well as sister-in-law, Kelly and her husband, Kevin; and nephews, Cameron and Brandon.

Sharon Lorraine Case Smith was born in Caldwell, Idaho on December 10, 1939, to Glenn Bernard and Luella Mae Case. Sharon joined her Savior on March 14, 2024.

The family moved to the Coeur d’Alene area and Sharon graduated from Coeur d’Alene High School in 1958. She married the love of her life, Warren Smith, in 1958 and they raised their family on the farm in the Rimrock area.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Glenn Laverne Case, William Jacob Case; and an infant granddaughter, Hope Rebecca Smith.

She enjoyed knitting, quilting, gardening, canning, scrapbooking, and writing short stories. She also refinished several pieces of furniture, including a dining room set, several chairs, a large coffee table (after the kids that destroyed it had moved out of the house) and a piano. She was active in the Nazarene Mission Society in her church and enjoyed her two mission trips to Guatemala.

She is survived by her children: Dan (LaVonna) of Perry, Oklahoma; Randy (Lynette) of Hayden, Idaho; Gary of Rathdrum, Idaho; and Becky (Kevin) Mumford of Hayden, Idaho; brothers: Delbert of Kent, Washington; Morris (Bev) of Shelton, Washington; Larry (Clarice) of Boise, Idaho; sisters: Charlen Wallen of Portland, Oregon; Bonnie Mahler (Norm) of Kamiah, Idaho; grandchildren: Kyle Smith and Carla Thomas (Jacob) of Oklahoma; Brooklyn Ann (Kent) and Blake Smith (Jenn) of Coeur d’Alene; Bryce Smith, Robert Smith (Hannah), Garrett Smith of Rathdrum; and Marc Mumford of North Dakota; great grandchildren, Micah Turner, Rylie, and Brielle.

Walter "Walt" Lawrence Bullard - November 19, 1959 - March 12, 2024

Obituary Preview: Walter was born on November 19, 1959 in Glendale, California to Lawrence and Geraldine (Trippel) Bullard and passed away peacefully on March 12, 2024 in Sandpoint, Idaho after a short battle with cancer. At a young age the family moved to Ramona, California where Walt graduated from Ramona High School in 1977.

From the day he could walk and talk it was all about the dirt and anything that went fast! Anybody who met him knew he “played in the dirt” to make a living but his dream was to be part of a pit crew or own his own dragster.

Walt worked for various grading and construction companies in California, Washington, and Idaho as well as two national companies that took his skills overseas to support our military. When overseas he gained the “call sign” 290. He loved building and fortifying the camps and working alongside the American troops. When he was on furlough you never knew what state or country, he would make his way to watch his favorite sport of drag racing.

Walt had family from the west coast to the east coast. He made many friends in his travels, at the drag strip/racetrack or watching football (“Go Seahawks”), anywhere from the U.S. to Australia. He was known for his “one-liners”, his love for adventure, and a big heart for those in need. Whether Walt spent days, months, a season, or years in our lives, he left an impression.

Walter is survived by his daughter, Tiffany (Chuck) Evenson; three grandsons: Spencer, Devin, and Landon; brother, Kurt (Jacqueline) Bullard; sisters, Kim (Mike) Huechteman, Michelle (Kerry) Strand; five nephews, one niece, one great nephew, two great nieces; and many who along his life journey called him dad, brother, uncle, and friend. He is preceded in death by both sets of grandparents; his father, Lawrence Bullard; his mother, Geraldine Bullard.

Cynthia "Cindy" Ann (Ackley) Nunn - February 11, 1963 - February 06, 2024

Obituary Preview: With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, sister, Cynthia Ann (Ackley) Nunn who passed away at her home surrounded by loved ones on February 6, 2024, at the age of 60 after a courageous battle with cancer. Cindy, as she was fondly known, was born on February 11, 1963, in her hometown of Saugus, California to Arthur and Dorothy Ackley.

In the year 2000, Cindy married her soulmate and love of her life, Colin Nunn, in a quaint ceremony in Mesa, Arizona and renewed their vows a few years later in a storybook Castle Ruins wedding, in traditional Scottish style, in Campbeltown, Scotland. They made their home in Newcastle upon Tyne, England where they lived for seven years, together building a life filled with love.

Cindy loved spending time with her family, and enjoyed hiking, and exploring the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest, collecting leaves, twigs, and rocks for creating pieces of art. She enjoyed kayaking, gardening, baking with her granddaughter, crafts, and had a passion for photography. She was the family historian, genealogist and researcher and ran a professional multi-state paranormal investigations team for over thirteen years. Cindy was the author of historical nonfiction books.

Cindy was proud to share with the world that she had eight beautiful grandchildren — but her legacy reaches far beyond her beloved family as she worked tirelessly doing volunteer work saving old houses from destruction and volunteering her time to help others find lost loved ones using her genealogist and researcher skills.

Cindy’s memory will be honored and kept alive by her family and friends, by her surviving loving husband, Colin Nunn; brother, Brian Ackley (Lisa); sister, Diane Ackley (Guy); her children, Jennifer Hulette (Trevor), Jeremy Ambrose (Amanda); and her grandchildren: Lillian, Violet, Iris, Alexandria, Eloy, Neodin, Jotunn, and Kimberly.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday February 16, 2024, at Yates Funeral Homes – Hayden Chapel, 373 E Hayden Ave, Hayden, ID 83835.

William "Bill" R. Carl, Jr. - January 24, 1945 - February 06, 2024

Obituary Preview: William “Bill” R. Carl, Jr. was born to William R. Carl, Sr., and Virgie Mae Tyson Carl in 1945. Bill was raised in Medical Lake, Washington where he graduated from Medical Lake High School in 1963. He was later one of the founding members of the of the Medical Lake High School Alumni Association. Bill then joined the Army and served four years as a Missile Technician before attending Eastern Washington University, and later pursuing a nursing degree at Spokane Community College.

Bill remained in the military reserves until he earned his 20-year letter, serving as a nurse and field hospital ward master through several deployments, including Landstuhl, Germany during Operation Desert Storm, where he cared for wounded soldiers.

While working as a registered nurse at Eastern State Hospital, Bill accompanied a close friend on an ambulance ride-along. He joined Spokane Ambulance (now AMR) as a paramedic in 1974, remaining there until he was hired as one of four firefighter/paramedics with Fire District 9 in North Spokane in 1981. Bill continued with Fire District 9 until he retired as a Captain in August 2003.

Bill married Vickie A. McCann in 1970 and had one daughter, Tiffani Carl. In 1996 he married Elizabeth Maureen Benedict-Thompson. Together they raised her two children, Stephanie Thompson Winters (Daniel) and Jacob R. Thompson (Brittany). Maureen and Bill shared 30 happy years together and enjoyed four beautiful grandchildren: Cooper, Abigail, Bennett, and Jameson.

Bill is also survived by two brothers-in-law, Douglas Benedict (Pam) and Donald Benedict; as well as his step-siblings: Marsha Belfils (Roy), Mary Anderson, Tim Hillbrick, and James Hillbrick (Kathy).

After retirement, Bill and Maureen moved to Bayview, Idaho where he enjoyed many hobbies, including sailing, fishing, and woodworking. He was a man of many hats, devoting his life to serving those around him. He will be greatly missed.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, April 8, 2024, at Yates Funeral Home – Hayden Chapel, 373 E. Hayden Ave., Hayden, ID. Inurnment will be at the Washington State Veterans Cemetery in Medical Lake, WA at 2:30 PM on Friday April 12, 2024.

Phillip Lee "P.L." Chapman - January 21, 1956 - February 05, 2024

Obituary Preview: Phillip Lee (P.L.) Chapman, 68, of Rathdrum, Idaho, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on February 5, 2024 in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. P.L. was born on January 21, 1956 in St. Maries, Idaho to Glenn R. Chapman and Geraldine M. (Jurgens) Chapman.

He spent his early years in Big Creek, Idaho and later the family moved to Osburn, Idaho. He attended school in the Wallace School District.

P.L. met Joy Baillie of Mullan, Idaho in the spring of 1981 and they were married in Coeur d’Alene on December 31, 1984. P.L. and Joy resided in Osburn, Idaho during the early years of their marriage where they raised their two children, Phillip Nicholas (Nick) Chapman and Nicole Lee (Colee) Chapman.

He worked as a hard rock miner and construction worker until he suffered a C-2 fracture in an auto accident in 1990.

P.L. loved hunting, fishing, and auto mechanics and spent most of his time in the mountains or on the local lakes.

When the kids reached high school age, the family moved to the Coeur d’Alene area to be closer to Joy’s work and shortly thereafter relocated to the Sandpoint area where they lived until 2017.

P.L. attended the First Baptist Church in Sandpoint until health issues made it difficult so he then attended the Laclede Community Church which was closer to home.

P.L. and Joy moved to Rathdrum in October 2017 to be closer to their children, grandchildren and P.L.’s doctors.

Survivors include his wife, Joy of Rathdrum, ID; daughter, Nicole Baillie; and granddaughter, Peytton Jennings of Rathdrum, ID; grandson, Ryan Jennings of Ponderay, ID; granddaughter, Chloe Chapman of Hayden, ID; daughter-in-law, Danielle Chapman of Garwood, ID; sister, Linda McElmurry of Hammond, OR; and numerous nieces and nephews.

P.L. was preceded in death by his son, Nick; his parents, Glenn and Jerry; his brothers, Gerald and Jack; and his nieces, Hannah and Twilla.

He was a long-time supporter of St Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital (P.O. Box 1893, Memphis, Tennessee 38101) and requested that in lieu of flowers donations be made to St. Jude’s.

Suzy’s mother, Margaret (Hackbarth) Inbody and her father, Richard Inbody, were from Lincoln, Nebraska. Suzy was born in Lincoln, Nebraska on September 6, 1950. Her family moved to Southern California where her father was employed by Lockheed Corp. Lockheed moved them to Sunnyvale, California where Suzy attended high school. After graduating she trained as and became a cosmetologist.

Suzy married Doug Willis and had her three children: Kimberly Louise Dunnick and identical twins, Jon and Richard Dunnick. Susan went to work at National Semiconductor and rapidly advanced to a chemical engineer position in charge of over 500 employees.

Susan divorced Doug Willis and shortly after married Alex Alexander, they divorced after 10 years, Susan then met and married Ivan Dunnick and happily welcomed his blind son, Dayan Kai Dunnick into our blended family. Ivan adopted her three children. The three boys were visually impaired. Suzy worked tirelessly and initiated school programs for three school districts in two different states. Blind children now have programs for the visually impaired because of her work. She was a fierce mama bear.

The family moved to Idaho and ranched north of Bonners Ferry from 1989 until 2021. After selling the ranch in 2021, Susan and Ivan moved to Lincoln, Nebraska. Susan had a stroke in 2022 and life changed dramatically. Susan loved to travel; she went to France two times, Italy, Czech Republic, and Philippines. In 2023, we moved to Chattaroy, Washington where we had maintained a home for thirty years. From June 2023 till present we worked at remodeling our new home which had been a rental for many years. Suzy loved the challenge and avidly designed, purchased appliances and lighting, picked out tile and carpeting, till she physically could do no more. Truly a dynamic lady.

Obituary Preview: Michael Anthony Lupo passed away January 25, 2024, at the age of 68. In his passing, he is reunited with his mother and his childhood best friend. His memory will be cherished by his father; brother; sister; ex-wife; two children; and six grandchildren.

In his life, Mike traveled extensively and lived in many places, but the Spokane area was always home. He was dedicated to his work in hotel management, but also enjoyed camping and skiing with his children. He was a skilled ice carver, enjoyed reading historical fiction and biographies, and was rarely defeated at dominoes and cribbage. His favorite hobby above all else - he loved taking naps.

Mike was an Air Force veteran and also a cancer survivor. His family is grateful for the extra 15 years after chemo and radiation therapy, that allowed him to celebrate many wonderful moments including: weddings, graduations, and especially the arrival of grandchildren. The family will always remember how in even the worst moments, a picture, or a few words with a grandchild always left him with a smile on his face.

David O. Suhr - November 20, 1933 - January 10, 2024

Obituary Preview: With his wife of 68 years by his side, David O. Suhr passed away on January 10, 2024, at his home in Rathdrum, Idaho. Having recently moved to Rathdrum, David and his wife, Millie, previously lived in the Silver Valley (Osburn, Idaho) for over 50 years.

David was born on November 20, 1933, in Casco Township, Allegan County, Michigan to Jerome and Ethel (Larsen) Suhr. Populated with rural farms, local swimming holes, and a one room schoolhouse, Allegan County was an ideal playground for a young, spirited boy to grow up. At 10 years old, David started driving a tractor on his neighbor’s farm. Smiling, or rather, impishly grinning, David would often recall his early year antics.

At the end of World War II, David’s dad (at that time, Major Jerome Suhr) was stationed in Germany. Around 1946, David, with his mom and two brothers, temporarily moved to Heidelberg, Germany. Living there for about one year, he built his collection of military pins, flags, and other military memories. He was also a member of the Boy Scouts during this time.

David attended High School in South Haven, Michigan (where he met Millie) during the late 40’s and early “Fifties”. In the era of denim jeans, poodle skirts, and rock-and-roll, Dave and Millie would frequent the local skating rink. Both were a whiz on the rink but David, throwing in the occasional backflip, seemed a little more eager to impress. David and Millie graduated from High School in 1952.

After High School, David joined the Army. Temporarily saying good-bye to his new girlfriend, he started active service during the Korean War in 1953. Attending Basic Training in Fort Riley, Kansas and specialty training at Fort Devens, Massachusetts, he was eventually transferred to Kenai, Alaska (Wildwood Station) where he worked in Army Security as a Radio Communications Interceptor. It was a classified assignment. David received the National Defense Service Medal and was honorably discharged in 1955.

Recently out of the military, David and a couple of friends made their way back to the lower 48 states by driving south along the Alcan Highway. Riding three across the bench seat of their Chevy pickup, with gear similarly packed in the bed, they drove the roughly 1,387 miles from Delta Junction, Alaska to Dawson Creek, British Columbia. Originally completed in 1942 as a military transport road, when David and his friends embarked on their trip in 1955 the Alcan highway had only been open to the public for seven years. At that time, it was still gravel.

David started working his way back to Michigan after reaching Washington. On his way east, he drove through Northern Idaho…and fell in love with the area – vowing to come back. But he had a greater love back in Michigan - he and Millie were married in 1956. Ready to start civilian life, he first attended Western Michigan College (Kalamazoo) and then, after moving to Idaho with his wife, completed his Bachelor of Science in Geology at the University of Idaho (1961). He went on to earn his Master of Science in Geology in 1964. By this time, he and Millie added two sons (David, 1959 and Daniel, 1962) to their family.

Just out of college, David started working with Anaconda Mining Company in Butte, Montana. Then, in 1965, he was hired by ASARCO mining company in Wallace, Idaho where he worked until retirement – first as a Geologist and ending as a Chief Environmentalist. During his work years, David and Millie were blessed by another son (Michael, 1966) and a daughter (Kristen, 1971). In 1973, David was transferred to Leadville, Colorado (another mining town) and moved there with his family. Four years later, he was transferred again and they moved back to the Silver Valley (living in Osburn, Idaho). Once retired, he went to work for HECLA mining company where he helped close non-working mine sites and eventually retired a second time.

David was very civic minded. In addition to his military service, while in Colorado he served as president of the Silver King Ambulance Team and was deputized while volunteering on the Colorado Search and Rescue. In Idaho, he was a Wallace School District board member for several years and ran for Idaho State Senate twice in the 1980’s. A huge part of David’s life was his work in the National Ski Patrol. He loved to ski and was active in the Ski Patrol for over 50 years (1973 to 2024). During this volunteer time, he skied with many family members and friends. Talking about skiing would always bring a smile to his face. Likewise, grandkids loved to go to the hill and ski with Grandpa. The yearly Spokane Bloomsday run was also an event that David enjoyed sharing with his family.

David is survived by his immediate family: brother, Martin; wife, Mildred; sons and daughters: David J., Daniel and Deanne, Michael and Kathryn, and Kristen and Heath Peterson; grandsons and granddaughters include: Jennifer and Jeff Zwick, Jason Suhr, Elizabeth Suhr and Ben Lane, Erik and Rachel Suhr, Jacob Suhr, Joshua and Kelly Suhr, Nathan and Tama Peery-Suhr, Kathryn Suhr and Zachary Jones, Mikaela and Cody Johnson, Matthew Suhr, Jordan Dean, Makenzie Dean, Mariah Peterson, Makayla Peterson, Ryan Peterson, and Gavin Peterson; great-grandsons and great-granddaughters include: Jayden Zwick, Reese Zwick, Dominick Suhr, Chandler Suhr, Henry Suhr, Lexi Lewis, Kaisley Suhr, Lawson Suhr, Savannah Koski, Jonathan C. Suhr, Skylar Jones, Eden Johnson, Aspen Peterson, Taxyn Peterson, Ashton Peterson, Finn Peterson, and Haislee Peterson.

David is preceded in death by his immediate family: brothers, Jerome R. and Robert; Son-in-law, Robert Dean; and grandson, Jonathan D. Suhr. With many special times and fun memories to hold onto, Dear Friend, Great Grandpa, Grandpa, Uncle, Father-in-law, Dad, Brother, and Husband…bye for now!

Robert "Bob" Henry Kiefer - April 14, 1933 - December 19, 2023

Obituary Preview: Robert Henry (Bob) Kiefer, 90, of Deer Park, Washington died December 19, 2023 in Spokane, Washington. Bob was born April 14, 1933 in Rathdrum, Idaho to his parents, Frederick William and Myrtle (Howell) Kiefer. Robert grew up and attended school in Rathdrum, ID. He was enlisted in the United States Army and served in the Korean War from June 8, 1953 to May 10, 1955. After his tour in Korea, Robert then went to college at the University of Idaho where he majored in education. He was in the Army Reserve from May 10, 1955 to August 28, 1961. Robert met his wife, Gladys Iva Howard, and they were married in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho on December 31, 1962. Bob and Gladys had five children and five grandchildren. They built their lives and family together in the Riverside community where they resided together for 62 years

He was a respected coach and teacher and loved what he did. Bob spent much of his time educating youth. Bob taught in Grand Coulee, Washington from 1959-1960 and coached 8th grade football and basketball. Bob then moved to Riverside High School, Chattaroy, Washington. Bob was an educator and coach at Riverside from 1960-1994. Along with teaching Physical Education, Washington State History and Math, he coached football from 1960 – 1977 and again from 1989 -1995, basketball from 1960-1985, and baseball 1970-1976 for Riverside. He instructed at EWU basketball camps from 1977-1982. Bob established and ran Saturday sports programs for grades 5 -7 at Riverside from 1965-1977, and he also served as the Athletic Director for Riverside SD from 1965-1977.

Bob had many accomplishments throughout his life, many in his coaching days. He had been recognized with civic awards for public service, but the accomplishments he was most proud of were all the great wins with his students and players he coached. As head coach, Bob took several basketball teams from Riverside to State playoffs, and as assistant coach, took Riverside to the football state playoffs where they were Washington State A Champions in 1993. Bob’s coaching legacy was recognized by Riverside High School with the creation of the Bob Kiefer award which is earned by students that letter in three sports during all four years of high school.

You could always find Bob doing something he loved; being outdoors hunting, fishing, and golfing were a few of his favorites. Most importantly to Bob, spending time with those he loved.

Robert is preceded in death by his wife, Gladys and daughter, Kristine Kari Kiefer (Davis).

Robert is survived by his four children: sons, Dennis Kiefer of Valley, Washington; Dean Kiefer of Deer Park, Washington; daughters, Kathy (Wayde) Hudlow of Connell, Washington; Karolyn (Chris) McDevitt of Liberty Lake, Washington; brothers, William Kiefer and Terry Kiefer of Rathdrum, Idaho; grandchildren: Kelsey McDevitt, Kirsten McDevitt, Kaleb Hudlow, Lacey Hudlow, and Kailey Davis; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services for Robert will be held on Friday, January 5, 2024 at Yates Funeral Home – Hayden Chapel, 373 E. Hayden Ave., a viewing will be from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM with a funeral service at 11:00 AM, then a graveside service to follow at Pinegrove Cemetery, 6693 ID-53 Rathdrum, Idaho.

She was born to Frances and Brownie Bakke on September 3, 1944. After graduating from high school, Meralyn embarked on a decades-long career in the school district while earning her bachelor's degree from Lewis-Clark State College.

She and her husband, Fred Harris enjoyed 32 wonderful years together—a time rich with travel and fun-filled days at their lake cabin. Meralyn's cherished role as a mother to Jocelyn and Jay was marked by unconditional love, shared adventures, and unforgettable memories. Meralyn also loved cooking, gardening, and designing her historical home. She was an avid reader and co-owned a catering business for several years. She and Fred traveled to numerous countries and spent a great deal of time cheering on the Zags.

She is survived by her husband, Fred Harris; children: Jocelyn Pfeifer (Anna), Jay Pfeifer (Ana), Dusty Harris (Chelsea), Brooke Harris (Brian); grandchildren: Isabel, Nathaniel, Asher, Luke, Danielle, Braxton, Brylee, Brayden, Kai, Paityn, Hannah, Ben; great grandchild, Arthur; siblings: Eloise, Jerry, Tony, Tim, Phil; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Brownie and Frances Bakke.

Justin had a heart of gold and loved and cared about everyone he ever met, even if it was just for a second. Justin could make everyone's day better with a joke, a funny story, a hug, or even just his smile. Justin loved hanging out with his friends and family. He loved rock-n-roll, rap, his dog Amy, doing crafts, playing outside with his siblings, playing video games with his brothers, hunting with Mrs. Vikki and Ron, fishing, boating with Brayden, and campfires. Justin loved and adored his two nephews and his beautiful niece. Proverbs 17:17 says, “A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.” This suits Justin perfectly. Justin was so loved and will continue to be loved by all. Justin is in Heaven walking without his wheelchair, having a great amount of fun with his great-grandma Homer, holding his “son’s” baby Kayven, hanging out with his buddy Jake, and I'm sure he's driving race cars with Gauge. Justin is in a much better place with the Lord, but he will be so missed down here on earth. He came into this world on June 2, 2000, to his mother, Charlene, and later gained an amazing father, Jeremy Miller. Justin always made sure people knew Jeremy was his dad, and no one could take that from him. Obituary Preview: Laura Michele Joos, 48, of Post Falls, Idaho passed away the afternoon of November 21, 2023 at Kootenai Health in Coeur d’Alene surrounded by her family and closest friends. Laura was born on June 24, 1975 in San Diego, California to Robert and Elaine Hannah. She was the younger of two siblings. She attended high school in San Diego. At 19 years old, she began her financial career as a bank teller working for Mission Federal Credit Union.

In 2001, while attending and participating in her best friend’s wedding in Tustin, California, she met the love of her life, Martin Joos. There was an immediate connection and she knew he was the one she would spend her life with. Laura and Martin were married in Garden Grove, California on July 10, 2004. Laura and Martin began their life journey by moving from California to Las Vegas, Nevada in 2004, where she worked as a loan officer for Silver State Schools Credit Union. In 2006, after two years of living in Las Vegas, they decided to move to Post Falls to be closer to their extended family. She continued her career with the Spokane Teachers Credit Union (STCU) in Liberty Lake, Washington, working as a Senior Consumer Underwriter for 15 years. In 2022, it was time for a change, so she took a job as a Lending Solutions Specialist with Boeing Employees Credit Union (BECU). She loved every step in her career goals and excelled in every position. She was always up for the challenges in her job’s daily duties and responsibilities.

Laura loved to give. She was the kindest and most caring individual, and always ensured her family and friends were taken care of, no matter the situation. She projected a positive spirit and focused on the emotional wellness of her loved ones, which was almost always a priority before her own needs. She was dedicated, loyal and truly selfless in every aspect of her family, closest friends, and her work team relationships.

Laura loved Siberian huskies and owned four in her adult life: Shiloh, Mya, Timber and Oakley. Every year she would donate to disabled pet rescues, hoping to enhance the lives of less fortunate dogs. She also donated to the Make a Wish Foundation. She always thought of others in need, and hoped her contributions brought brightness to their day.

Laura was preceded in death by her father, Robert Hannah, and father-in-law, Anton Joos. She is survived by her loving husband, Martin Joos; her mother, Elaine Hannah; mother-in-law, Maria Joos; brother, Richard Hannah; brother-in-law, Dave Smith; sisters-in-law, Angela Hannah and Christine Smith; nephews: Sean and Joshua Hannah, and Shawn and Brandon Smith; and many extended family members in North Idaho. Rosa passed away on November 16, 2023 at the Schneidmiller Hospice House in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho at the age of 95. She lived in Hayden, Idaho for seventeen years. She grew up in Hartford, Kentucky.

She married William Burgess in 1945 and together they had six children. They remained in Hartford until 1950 where upon the family moved to Illinois. In 1963 the family moved to Southern California.

Rosa worked in manufacturing for 23 years. She enjoyed being outside to tend to her gardening. She also enjoyed crocheting and quilting.

She is preceded in death by her daughter, Nancy; grandson, Jeff; granddaughter, Pamela; and great granddaughter, Sara. Rosa is survived by her five children: Joe, Marilyn, Bonnie, June, and Alice; ten grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; and thirteen great-great-grandchildren

A funeral will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, November 27, 2023 at Yates Funeral Home - Hayden Chapel, 373 E. Hayden Ave., Hayden, ID 83835.  A reception will follow the funeral.  Rosa will be interred at 2:30 PM on the same day at Coeur d'Alene Memorial Gardens in Coeur d'Alene.

Suzanne "Suzie" Louise Nicholson - October 14, 1952 - November 12, 2023

Obituary Preview: Suzanne (Suzie) Louise Nageli Nicholson was born in Grove City, Pennsylvania to Taylor and Jean Nageli, and grew up in Rockville, Maryland. Upon graduation she worked as a fashion model and a secretary before meeting her husband, George in 1973. They were married May 18, 1974 and had six children. In 1975 they came to know Jesus as their personal Savior. After several years, they felt the call of God to serve in overseas missions and moved to Brazil to serve with New Tribes Mission (currently known as Ethnos 360). After six years serving as a teacher at an international school for missionary children in Brazil, Suzanne was diagnosed with a severe neuromuscular disease. For the past 28 years, she has fought this disease.

She is best remembered for her encouraging words to those, like her, who suffered with chronic illness. She took the time to write and call friends all over the world, encouraging them to keep focused on the Lord and live with joy.

George and Suzanne were married for nearly 50 years and were blessed with 15 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Her legacy of serving her Lord, encouraging the hurting and loving her family continues on even in her absence. She is survived by her loving husband, George Nicholson; her brothers, Paul (Buck) Nageli, and William (Billy) Nageli; as well as her children: - Daughter, Rebecca Duncan with her husband, Daniel and their three daughters, Stephanie Herrera, her husband, Eric and      their children, Christian and Elena; daughter, Deanna and her daughter, Jessica with her two children, Hailey and Jaiden; - Daughter, Elin Henderson with her husband, Philip and their children, daughter, Callie with her husband, Elijah Missey, and son, Elias; - Son, Caleb Nicholson with his wife, Sandi and their children, Sophia, Samuel, and Adam; - Daughter, Catherine Woodson, with her husband, Denny and sons, George and Mikael; - Daughter, Christina Webb with her husband, Loren and their children, Terek Fischer and his wife, Sierra and daughter Elsie, Tianna Fischer, Tyse Fischer and Carson;

Dorothy Marie Matter - November 15, 1922 - October 30, 2023

Obituary Preview: Memorial service for Dorothy Matter, age 100, of Hayden, Idaho will be Monday, November 6, at 1:00 PM at Christ The King Lutheran Church at 1700 E. Pennsylvania Avenue, Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.  Interment will be at Forest Cemetery. Dorothy Marie Matter, 100, born November 15, 1922 to Carl Edward and Mary (Hoffman) Johnson in Moscow, Idaho. She grew up on a family farm and graduated from Moscow High School in 1941!

Shortly after High School she was united in marriage with Clovis Bingham, as Clovis Bingham joined the Navy. Dorothy enjoyed going along with Clovis especially living in Hawaii! Soon she gave birth to her only child Jerald Lee Bingham on July 1, 1954. After years of travel and her son becoming of school age, she decided to stay in San Diego as Clovis went on with the Navy and went their separate ways. She enjoyed working at the Family Restaurant and working as a Bank Teller and raising her most beloved son. As years passed Dorothy met Frank Matter, they became united in marriage in the late 70's! The couple had moved to Idaho as she wanted to be closer to her family, Frank wanted to be sure she was where she needed to be as shortly became ill and had passed. Dorothy's mother, Mary had moved to be with Dorothy in Coeur d'Alene shortly after Frank had passed! She enjoyed taking care of her loving mother and family as the years had passed!

Dorothy had her everlasting faith and she enjoyed and cherished her time with her friends at Christ The King Lutheran Church, as the house had become way too much for her to take care of. She had downsized and moved to Leisure Park and had met tons of wonderful friends and loved every one of them! She resided in Leisure Park the remaining of her life. She will be best remembered by everyone who knew her as a strong, sweet and ambitious

woman who deeply loved her family, friends and the Lord Jesus. Dorothy's light shined bright to all, it was in her smile and joyful attitude toward life. She is survived by her granddaughter, Melissa (Bingham) Gomez and Dave Gomez her husband of Hayden, Idaho; her grandson, James L. Bingham of Winston, Oregon; great grandson, Nathan J. Bingham and great granddaughter, Kaylee JoAnne Kaster! Blessed and eternal be the memory of Dorothy Marie Matter!

A special thanks to Hospice of North Idaho for all their loving care and compassion! Her friends; Anita Irwin, Kelly Burton and Chuck Saxton helped Dorothy and took care of her as she neared her time with Jesus, as she loved her time with them always. We are grieving, but also celebrating the life of Nathan Craig Hollman, who at 39 years old, was killed in a tragic vehicle collision in the early morning of October 19, 2023 on his way to work in Northern Idaho. Nathan leaves behind his wife, Lyndsey Hollman, and their two children, Katelyn (10) and Ethan (8). He also leaves his mom, Catherine Hollman; his sisters, Anjuli Martin-Hollman, Alydia Hollman, and Adrianna Horner; and his grandpas, Frank Villines and Dale Hollman. This loss is both shocking and devastating.

Nathan grew up in Oregon on his family's Christmas Tree Farm. Nathan learned the value of hard work and perseverance from an early age in life helping his parents manage their farm. Those lessons of hard work and perseverance would help him through his teenage years and early adulthood after losing his dad when he was 16. Then again when Catherine needed him to run the tree lot while she cared for Anjuli at UCSF during her battle with cancer. Nathan was the backbone for his family during tough times.

Nathan was faced with many of his own hardships over the years, including a near fatal electrical accident a few years ago. After coming home from one of his many subsequent surgeries, Katelyn wrapped her arms around her dad in the most genuine of embraces. It brought tears to Nathan’s eyes. This moment is captured in the celebration of life slideshow.

We've all acknowledged the feeling that we were blessed to have this second chance of life with Nathan, and watched as he used his hardships to witness to others about his faith so that they may find hope and strength. Nathan strove to be positive and upbeat, joking around, teasing those he loved and cared for, and always playing the role of big brother to his three little sisters.

He cherished his life with his beloved wife and kids. Nathan and Lyndsey were married on the family Christmas Tree Farm June 25, 2011. Nathan always said he couldn't be with someone tiny, or as he described, "Shrimpy.” He always said he would need to find a tall girl that could take him on in a wrestling match. Nathan described Lyndsey as his best friend. She was someone with whom he could share his challenges, his quirkiness, his fears, and his ambitions. As a team, they worked hard together, enjoyed life together, and enriched the lives of their children at every opportunity they had; although it’s debatable if the pet bunnies were to teach Ethan and Katelyn responsibility, or provide Nathan with cuddle time.

Nathan loved being outdoors fishing, crabbing, prospecting, building campfires and most of all, camping with family. They would find themselves out in the forest on adventures where most people wouldn't dare go. They enjoyed listening to country music, eating delicious BBQ from the grill master himself and consuming yummy goodies that Lyndsey prepared. The kids were with them on these adventures learning what real camping was like from their daddy. Nathan and Lyndsey were even planning a family camping trip the weekend of his untimely death.

Nathan was a loving husband, brother, son, friend and co-worker. He was the epitome of one who persevered through tremendous hardship and showed up and gave it his all. His life may have been taken from us at a young age, but he made a mark on our hearts, shaping our outlook on life, family, and faith. Each is precious and worth fighting for.
