As the matriarch of the Foley family, although short in stature, Peg’s legacy stands tall. Born on August 27, 1931, Peg grew up on her family’s dairy farm - Driscoll’s Dairy - and attended a one-room schoolhouse in Franklin, CT. Richard "Dick" Wraight - June 13, 1942 - January 06, 2024

Departed: 01/06/2024 (Norwich)
Obituary Preview: Richard George Wraight June 13, 1942-January 6, 2024
NORWICH - Richard “Dick” Wraight died peacefully under the care of Hospice and the wonderful staff at Mansfield Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation on Saturday night, January 6th, 2024. True to form, he orchestrated his leave of this world as the first snow of the season was falling, just hours after his daughters and family visitors left, four years to the day that he lost his beloved wife Judith Hamblen.
Richard was born in Norwich, CT and spent almost all of his life there. After graduating from NFA in 1960, he received an Associate's degree at Mitchell college and took classes at Northeastern before entering the National Guard. He was always a hard worker and after a few years at EB, he worked for 30 years at Thomas G. Faria Corp. as an electrical engineer; designing and directing quality control of tachometers and speedometers. He enjoyed a lot of traveling within the US as well as to China, Taiwan, and Europe while he worked for Faria. He loved jazz and big band music and visited many clubs, often during those work trips, to see some of his favorite performers throughout the years. Later, he would crank up the speakers he built for his turntable stereo and blast this music throughout the house, much to the annoyance of his family! Richard also loved camping, from his childhood as a Boy Scout to his summer stays at Salt Rock Campground in the 80s and 90s. When his girls were growing up he enjoyed wood-working projects with John Radwill, as well as many other home projects that "required" weekly trips to Benny's and True Value. He was also famous for cooking gigantic breakfasts for Erin and Laura's friends, whom he called his "other daughters"; telling stories of his days at work, or reciting random facts at the dinner table. He made us laugh and roll our eyes in equal measure.
Richard was generous and caring; but also a perfectionist who always expected your best, and let you know it if he didn't think you were doing it. His sense of humor and sarcastic quips keep those who knew him on their toes. "Old me" was quite a character and will be missed by many.
Richard leaves behind his brother Robert Wraight of Gales Ferry, his daughter Erin Wraichette and Jessie of Franklin; his daughter Laura Wraight and Mandi Brenek of Franklin, his step-daughter Bethany Hamblen and Alex Woodward of Norwich, his grandson McAllister Wraichette, and many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind all his "other daughters" in the friends of his girls and a few special musketeers that he has known since his high school days. He was predeceased by his parents, Mary (Havern) and Nelson Wraight, his former wife Carol Radwill Rozea, and his wife Judith Hamblen.
Calling hours will be on Saturday, January 13th from 1:00-3:00 pm at Woyasz & Son Funeral Home, 141 Central Ave, Norwich. Richard's ashes will be scattered at a later date in a private ceremony.

Departed: 01/06/2024 (Norwich)
Obituary Preview: Norwich - On January 6, 2024, Helen Rose Lynch passed peacefully at home, surrounded by, and attended to, her family.
Helen Rose (Loughery) Lynch was born in Providence, R.I. July 4, 1941, to George and Helen (Kelleher) Loughery. She married her true love, Paul Joseph Lynch, Oct. 12, 1962, at St. Michael's Church in Providence, R.I., and soon relocated to Connecticut where they made their forever home. Together, Paul and Helen began their family, first welcoming, Daniel, and three years later, Karen. In addition to being an incredible homemaker, Helen worked various jobs including Backus Hospital, Morell & Rothstein law firm, and eventually as Head of Circulation at Otis Library. This job proved to be Helen's favorite since it combined her love of books and people, and she happily worked there for 26 years until her retirement.
Retirement for Helen meant volunteering, reading good books on the beach, serving as a Eucharistic minister, throwing themed parties, "encouraging" Paul to get out more, and spending quality time with family and her many friends.
Helen is predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Paul, and is survived by her son Daniel Lynch; daughter Karen Marshall and husband David (whom Helen considered a son); grandsons, Matthew and wife Jessica, Connor, and Drew; and great-grandson Carson; siblings, Franny, Butch; in-laws; Sib, Terry, Marilyn, Brian, Jay, Jeff, Elizabeth; and numerous loving nieces, nephews, Godchildren, and friends.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 12, at St. Patrick Cathedral, 213 Broadway, Norwich. Calling hours will be from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Friday, at the Woyasz & Son Funeral Home, 141 Central Ave, Norwich. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery. Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries play a significant role in honoring the deceased, providing closure for those who are grieving, and serving as a historical record of a person's life. They also give friends and family an opportunity to pay tribute and celebrate the life of their loved one.

What is included in an obituary?

A typical obituary includes the person's name, age, date of birth and death, cause of death (optional), surviving family members, achievements, hobbies, and information about the funeral or memorial service. Some obituaries may also include photos, quotes, or personal anecdotes.

Who writes an obituary?

In most cases, the obituary is written by a family member or close friend of the deceased. Funeral homes or crematories may also offer assistance in writing an obituary as part of their services.

How long does it take to write an obituary?

The time it takes to write an obituary can vary depending on the complexity and length of the notice. On average, it can take anywhere from 30 minutes to several hours to write a well-crafted obituary.

Absolutely! While an obituary should be respectful, it's also a celebration of the person's life. Including humorous anecdotes or personality traits can help capture the essence of the deceased and make the obituary more engaging.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper?

Most newspapers have an online submission process or a specific contact person for obituaries. You can usually find this information on the newspaper's website or by calling their office directly.

Can I publish an obituary online?

Yes! Many online platforms, such as Legacy.com or Tributes.com, allow you to publish an obituary and share it with others through social media or email. Some funeral homes also offer online obituary publishing services.

What is the difference between an obituary and a death notice?

Can I write my own obituary in advance?

Yes! Writing your own obituary in advance can be a therapeutic exercise and ensure that your story is told the way you want it to be. Just be sure to store it safely and let your loved ones know where to find it.

The length of an obituary can vary depending on the publication or platform. Generally, aim for 150-300 words for a print newspaper and 300-500 words for an online publication.

Can I include charitable donations in an obituary?

What if I don't have all the information needed for an obituary?

If you're missing certain details, don't worry! You can still write a meaningful obituary that celebrates your loved one's life. Focus on sharing stories and memories that showcase their personality and achievements.
