Reverend Dr. Charles E. Williams, Jr. - October 31, 1948 - April 21, 2022

Obituary Preview: Reverend Dr. Charles E. Williams, Jr., age 73 of the Five Points Community in Chadbourn, went to meet his Lord and Saviour on Thursday, April 21, 2022, while in New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, NC.
Chuck, as he was lovingly known, was born on October 31, 1948, in Baltimore, MD, to the late Charles Edward, Sr. and Theresa Mae Johnson Williams. He was also preceded in death by his son, Ricky Moore, his brother, Louis Williams, Sr. and his grandchild, Isiya Moore.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 30, 2022 at Living Word Church in Chadbourn with Pastor Darren Bellamy officiating.  Interment will follow in the Butler Branch Cemetery in Fair Bluff.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until time of the service on Saturday.
A viewing will be held from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Friday at Worthington Funeral Home in Chadbourn.
Charles attended the historic Carver Vocational Technical High School, where he learned his skill as an electrician. He worked as an electrician for many years, later becoming a master electrician, licensed and bonded his own business. He sang professionally with the Christianaires of Baltimore for more than 20 years; his tenor voice can be heard on many of their recordings. He would later form his own gospel group with his former wife and in-laws. Charles preached the word of God. He was licensed and ordained in Baltimore, MD. He attended Wings of Victory Bible College and Seminary in Baltimore, MD, and was Godly proud to obtain his Doctorate Degree. He was later called to Pastor the Renewed Faith Church in Baltimore. He pastored until his retirement, but never stopped singing and preaching the Word of God.
Survivors include his wife, Vernie Ruth Moore Williams of the home; children, Glenn C. Moore (Aleshia) of Chadbourn, Charles Edward Williams, III of Fair Bluff, Anthony Tremayne Williams of Chadbourn; step-daughter, Shyrita Frazier (Jimmie) of Charlotte;  a step-son, Darryl Turner and wife, of Baltimore, MD; step-brother, Donnell Johnson of Baltimore, MD; siblings, Beverly Moore (Johnny Lee) of Clarkton, Angela Burden (Ronnie) of Baltimore, MD, Russell Williams, Marsha Williams of Baltimore; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and many loving nieces and nephews.

Obituary Preview: Malcolm “Mack” Edwards, age 87 of the Beaverdam Community, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, April 17, 2022, at the Lower Cape Fear LifeCare Center in Whiteville.
Mack was born on August 1, 1934, to the late Rother and Renda Hayes Edwards. He was also preceded in death by four siblings, Irene Gore, Joseph Edwards, Cecil Edwards, and Charlie Edwards.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, April 20, 2022 at 3:00 p.m., at Dollie's Memorial Gardens (across from Welcome PFWB Church, Cribbtown Road.) with Pastor Marvin Warfe officiating.
A public viewing for friends will be held from 12:30-2:00 on Wednesday, at the funeral home.
Mack was a retired farmer, who loved his family dearly; he also loved fishing and working in his garden.
Mack leaves behind his loving wife, Vickie Cribb Edwards of the home; two children, Sam Edwards and wife, Detra, of Chadbourn, Mirenda Edwards-Prout and husband, Eric, of Tabor City; brother, Kenneth “Ken” Edwards and wife, Willa Dean, of Chadbourn; three grandchildren: Alex Edwards (Randa), Isabelle Edwards, Elleigh Prout, and two great-grandchildren: Abigail Edwards and Levi Edwards; special four-legged friend, Winston.

Gordon Howard Coulson - April 11, 1948 - April 17, 2022

Obituary Preview: Gordon Howard Coulson.
Retired Lieutenant Colonel Gordon Howard Coulson was born on April 11, 1948 in New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada, the first son of Ross and Nora Coulson. He was raised in White Rock, British Columbia and graduated from Semiahmoo Senior High School in 1966. In 1967, after a year of extended study with the University of British Columbia, he applied for and enlisted in the United States Army. After attaining his Alien Registration Card, he attended Basic Training at Fort Lewis, Washington then shipped out to Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri for Advanced Individual Training with the Corps of Engineers.
Mr. Coulson is a Vietnam Veteran 1968 - 1969. He was stationed in Germany prior to ending his three year enlistment with an Honorable Discharge at the rank of Specialist Five. He returned home to British Columbia, but missed the Army and returned in February 1971. He was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood prior to another tour in Germany. While at Fort Leonard Wood, he met his future wife, Dorothy Ann Kenski on a trip to St. Louis. They were married in June 1972, and moved to Germany only to find out that after 40 days they were being sent to Fort Benning, Georgia as Staff Sergeant Coulson had been accepted to attend Officer’s Candidate School. He graduated from the school a 2nd Lieutenant in the Corp of Engineers in May of 1973. He then attended and graduated from the U.S. Army Parachute Jump Course before heading to Fort Belvoir, Virginia for the Engineer Officer Basic Course.  Upon completion of the course he was assigned as First Platoon Leader, Company C, 864th Engineer Battalion at Fort Lewis, Washington. He obtained the rank of Captain and took over the Headquarters Company as its Commanding Officer before being sent back to Fort Belvoir for the Engineer Officer’s Advanced Course. Following this course he was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood once again to the Department of Plans, Training and Evaluation. Prior to his departure, he was selected and served a year as the Secretary of the General Staff before receiving orders for one more tour of Duty in Germany. While at Fort Leonard Wood, Mr. Coulson attended night school and completed his Baccalaureate Degree in Business from Columbia College, Columbia, Missouri. In this last assignment in Germany, he was the Director of Security, Plans, Operations and Training for the European Command Support Activity at Patch Barracks, Vaihingen, Germany. Upon completion of his three years and a promotion to Major, he was selected for and attended the Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. Prior to completion of the course, Mr. Coulson applied for and received his American Citizenship. Following Command and General Staff College he was assigned to the office of the Assistant Chief of Engineers, The Pentagon, Washington, D.C. where he was a program manager for various projects in the build-up of Fort Drum, New York before being selected for the position of Protocol Officer for the Secretary and Chief of Staff of the Army. In November of 1986 he was selected and assigned to the Military District of Washington as the Chief, Ceremonies Division. There he remained until his retirement in April of 1996. During this assignment, he was privileged to be the key Army Officer responsible to the White House Military Office for training and readiness of the Army, Navy, Marine, Air Force and Coast Guard Honor Guards support to the President of the United States and the Secretary of Defense. He was directly involved in the Inaugural Ceremonies of President George H.W. Bush and President William J. Clinton and served these two administrations with honor in many ceremonies. In September 1993, he was also privileged to plan and to direct the retirement ceremony for General Colin L. Powell, USA, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.  During his tenure he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
Following his tour in the military, Coulson was selected for the position of Secretary for the Association of the United States Army in Arlington, Virginia from which he retired in November of 2004.  Lieutenant Colonel Coulson, U.S. Army (retired) lost his wife, of 31 years after a seven year fight with renal failure in July of 2003. He was a non-active Mason, Scottish Rite and Shrine member. He was an active member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Elks. He enjoyed all sports especially swimming, soccer and golf.
He remarried on 18 August 2006 and is survived by his wife Juanita McLean Coulson of the home, her son Luther S. McLean II and his wife, Jessica Anderson McLean of Marysville, Washington, and his brother, Richard S. Coulson of Ashcroft British Columbia. His brother Terry R. Coulson passed away on February 12, 2016.

Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00, Sunday evening, at the funeral home.
Survivors include his wife, Alice Kate Hammond Creech of the home; siblings, Virginia C. Cartrette of Whiteville, Rose C. Hinson and husband, Devon, of Chadbourn; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Mildred Loraine Bullock - February 22, 1931 - April 07, 2022

Obituary Preview: Loraine Stanley Bullock, age 91, died on April 7, 2022 at home in Chadbourn, NC following an extended illness.
Born February 22, 1931 in Columbus County, she was the daughter of the late Henry Emerson Stanley and Vira Hinson Stanley and the widow of Malcom Van Bullock, the love of her life.
Mrs. Bullock was a long-time member of Williamson’s Crossroads Baptist Church where she served faithfully as a Sunday School teacher and was actively involved in many aspects of the church.
She graduated with an Associate degree in Nursing from Southeastern Community College and served as an LPN at Columbus County Hospital for over twenty years.
Surviving are three sons: Malcolm Stanley Bullock (Marilyn) of Chadbourn, NC; Darryl Van Bullock (Valerie) of Summerville, SC and Henry Rossie Bullock (Karen) of Chadbourn, NC; four grandchildren: Amanda Leggett (Craig) of Evergreen, NC; James Bullock (Julie) of Clayton, NC; Jason Fowler (Heather) of Charlotte, NC; Kristen Britt (Jay) of Chadbourn, NC;  and eight great grandchildren: Andrew Nance of Savannah, GA; Kinley Nance of Chadbourn, NC; Bradley Leggett of Evergreen, NC; Byron Leggett, Evergreen, NC; Brock and Caitlin Fowler of Charlotte, NC; Abigail and Mattie Grace Bullock of Clayton, NC and Jason and Noah Britt of Chadbourn, NC.
In addition to her husband, she is predeceased by an infant daughter: Sharon Loraine Bullock; five brothers: Hubert Stanley, Paul Stanley, Homer Stanley, Selmon Stanley and Cecil Stanley; and five sisters: Gladys Mills, Estelle Jayroe, Lucille Cox, Dot Elkin and June Nichols.
The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation and gratitude for caregivers, Opal Little and Linda Hilbourn as well as Liberty Hospice for all of their love and care throughout this difficult time.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, April 4, 2022, at Cedar Grove Baptist Church, with Pastor Jeff Stocks officiating. Interment will follow in the Gowan Cemetery, Cerro Gordo.
Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Sunday evening, at the funeral home.
Fannie was a faithful member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church, of which she served in various roles over the years, including choir member and WMU.

Donald worked in the Specialist Material Management division at Fluor Corporation Company for 34 years. He was a loving husband, father, papa and great papa; Donald enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing pool, and racing with his son, Chris and his good friend, Harry Hinson.

A native of Columbus County, Sue was born on May 1, 1941, to the late Zeb, Sr. and Bessie Strickland Green. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Sherwood Enzor, and her siblings, Tommie Inez Britt, Zeb Green, Jr., Reggie Mae Green, Bernice Green, Morris Green, Harry Lee Green, Thay Wilson, Geneva Green, Virginia G. Stephens, and Patricia “Trish” Greene.
