Joshua Austin Mease - April 13, 1993 - December 22, 2020

Departed: 12/22/2020 (Grove)
Obituary Preview: Joshua Austin Mease, 27 went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 22, 2020. He was born April 13, 1993 in Grove, Oklahoma to his parents Rebecca Mease of Grove, OK and Darrell Mease of Jay, OK.  Josh was a student at Northeastern State University - Tahlequah and was a lifelong resident of Grove, OK. Josh graduated with honors from Grove High School with the class of 2012. Josh was to graduate from NSU in May 2021 with a Bachelors of Science in psychology accompanied by two minors in chemistry and business.
Joshua Austin came into this world a “hard to watch and curious child,” often wandering off and going up to most estranged people he could find and asking them questions like “why do you have so many piercings?” His fearlessness was also a constant concern to his family as he was not afraid of heights, water, or trying to eat everything he laid eyes on. After surviving being a toddler, Josh’s days were very busy trying to tag along with his older brother Robert (Robby) and cousins trying to learn important life lessons like “how to make common fireworks blow a crater in the ground so big the police pay you a visit.” Even though his older brother's friends duck taped him to various things every once in a while, his charismatic nature and athletic ability won them over. He was able to talk his way out of almost anything through his love for storytelling. After Josh learned to skateboard and wake-skate, he was then deemed “cool” and given various nicknames by Robby’s friends and is known to this day are as follows: “Little Mease,” “Squash,” “Mini Meash,” and of course “Joshie.”
As Josh grew, he became more versatile in everything he tried. To his friends he was known as a “do it all” kind of person that was determined to excel at sports, academics, and in the mosh pit. Josh’s attitude is noted by his fellow teammates as an “all around positive person” and “an annoying leader” by his coaches, as he was known to motivate his team to break out into song despite his coaches’ wishes. One song in particular mentioned by various sources was “If It Means a Lot to You” by A Day To Remember.
Josh’s curiosity never slowed with academics either. He developed an interest in science, began to compete, and furthermore win. His peers say Josh’s victories were due to “his charisma and beautiful hair.” This charm and wit led him to travel to numerous places around the country including San Jose, California; Santa Fe, New Mexico; and Washington DC. Josh didn’t know it at the time, but his success in science would lead him to later be awarded the Gates Millennium Scholarship that would open the door for his college education.
Josh was also proud of his Cherokee heritage, in college he joined Phi Sigma Nu and was honorably added to their memorial book this week. As he continued his journey throughout life and college, he never cut his hair, and formed the beautiful locks we all know and love today.
He held a special place in his heart for his family and friends, which were a high priority for Josh. Josh treasured his relationship with his immediate family and was regularly checking in on their well being. He was lovingly protective of those close to his heart. Josh had a host of friends that were near and dear to him, he will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Surviving Josh are his parents, Becky Mease and Darrell Mease. He is also survived by brother Robby Mease and Robby's fiancée Samantha Richmond and half sister Pyper Mease. He will be survived by a number of loving aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Lois “Boots” and Bud Earp, and paternal grandparents Patricia and Robert Mease.
A special thanks to the people who helped write this obituary through sharing your memories of Joshua. I could not have done it without you.

Helen Louise Martin - November 04, 1930 - November 23, 2020

Departed: 11/23/2020 (Grove)
Obituary Preview: Helen Louise Martin, 90 years of age, passed from this earth to be with her Heavenly Father on November 23, 2020. Helen was born November 4, 1930, to James E. “Sam” Triplett and Margaret E. “Ola” (Tyree) Triplett at Racine, MO. She was one of nine children born to Sam and Ola.
Life on the farm in rural Missouri was difficult at best during the first half of the 20th century, and all the Triplett family learned to work hard. Helen remained a hardworking, independent woman her entire life. She ended her education after 8th grade and went to work at Neosho, MO, as a nursing aide at the hospital.
On October 7, 1948, Helen married Orley W. Martin before the Justice of the Peace at Pineville, MO. Helen and Orley went on to have five children together: Arlene, Judy, Diane, Orley “Bub”, and Jeanne. They remained married through many trials and tribulations until Orley’s death on November 27, 1976. Thereafter, Helen spent nearly three decades with her significant other, Elmer Jackson, until his death on September 2, 2002.
Helen led a very hardworking life. She raised her five children mostly alone. She instilled a hardworking mindset and a good sense of humor into her children. Helen did the best she could, and she was much appreciated and beloved by all of her children.
In addition to her work as a mother, Helen worked as a waitress and/or cook at numerous restaurants during her life. She also spent many years working at the Grove VFW. She was a member of the Grove VFW Women’s Auxiliary for many years, and she volunteered at Grand Lake Villa for many years. Helen truly touched the lives of people with her kindness and caring through her work, volunteering, and friendship.
Helen loved fishing. Anytime she could go fishing was her “happy time.” Anyone that knew her could probably tell a fishing tale about her. She also loved camping or spending days at Buffalo Creek with her children, their spouses, and her many beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren. The wonderful times with Helen at the lake or the creek will be missed by all of her loved ones, and she will be in their thoughts when they go to the lake or creek in the future. Anyone that played Pitch or games with Helen probably left the table flustered. She won more often than not. She had such a good sense of humor, and everyone enjoyed playing games with her. Also, there was usually plenty of delicious food around. She was an excellent cook!
Helen enjoyed going to the Triplett family reunions where she could catch up with her very extensive family. She always looked forward to any time she could spend with her siblings. In recent years those gatherings had been reduced to the remaining sisters, and she especially treasured each of her siblings.
Helen was preceded in death by: her husband, Orley W. Martin; her significant other, Elmer Jackson; her daughter, Frances Arlene (Martin) Gaston; her parents, Sam and Ola Triplett; her siblings, George Triplett, Ruth (Triplett) Daniels, and Jim Triplett; and numerous other beloved family members and friends.
