Roger Duane Cullers - January 20, 1943 - December 21, 2021

Departed: 12/21/2021 (Rochester)
Obituary Preview: Roger Cullers 1943-2021 Born to Estle and Marian Louise (Leslie) Taylor
The youngest of five children: (surviving) Leslie (Nancy Neuber) of Iowa City, Larry (Sharon Clark) of Springfield and Sharon Morescki (deceased Gene) of Phoenix, and Jerry (deceased). Born in Springfield IL January 20, 1943 Married Doris Ellen (Guernsey) on Jan 30, 1966
Roger and Doris started their life together in the Cabbage Patch, where they had their two children, Beth and Becky, and Roger renovated their first house on the 2800 block of south 13th street. He worked as a draftsman and then an electrician with CWLP.
In 1980, Roger built a house and moved his family to the Rochester School District, from which both his girls graduated in the 1980’s. Doris had worked at the US Post Office for several years, but her heart was always in Nursing. Roger was always supportive of her desire to become a RN. During that time, Roger continued with CWLP and ended his 40-year career there as Electrical Maintenance Supervisor of the Dalman Plant while Doris served as an oncology nurse at St John’s Hospital, careers they both were proud of.
In 1998 he and Doris both retired and moved to Lake of the Ozarks full-time, where Roger enjoyed fishing and golfing and playing cards. He and Doris made lots of new friends but missed their family and friends back home in Springfield. They returned to Lake Petersburg in 2005 and then to Springfield (2014) to be near the grandkids.
Love of the outdoors was a huge part of Rogers life, so he and CWLP friends took many fishing trips to Ozarks, Table Rock, and Canada. He also had a horse-shoe tourney named after him because of his skill in that arena: The Cullers Open. Pinnacle and bowling were memorable pastimes as well during their kids’ early years. During retirement, golf became his focus and he and Doris both enjoyed golfing with Florida and Aruba friends, and of course Roger and his buddies played regularly at many different courses in central Illinois.
After the passing of the love of his life Doris (2018), Roger treasured even more his time with friends and family. He was always a Giver – a giver of time, labor, ideas, money. He was a friend to all and is already sorely missed.
Roger leaves behind two daughters: Elizabeth Marie Cullers and Rebecca Sue (Tim) Klatt, both of Springfield; three grandkids: Marellen Cullers and Dalton and Nolan Klatt, also of Springfield. Roger’s grandson Dalton serves in the 82nd Airborne of the US Army, stationed at Fort Bragg, NC. He is a combat medic. This made his grandpa proud as he himself had served in the Army after high school. To donate in memory of Roger Cullers and his legacy, please consider: St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, as it was dear to both Roger and Doris’ heart 501 St Jude Place Memphis, TN  38105 OR The Lymphoma and Leukemia Society PO Box 22324 New York, NY  10087 OR A charity of your choosing Park Funeral Home, Rochester IL is in charge of arrangements

Dorothy Rose Fleming - April 17, 1931 - December 15, 2021

Departed: 12/15/2021 (Rochester)
Obituary Preview: Dorothy Rose Fleming, lovingly known as “Dottie” and “Grandottie” was born on April 17th, 1931 in Anson, Maine to her parents John Longley and Goldie Porter. She passed away peacefully on December 15th, 2021. She was dearly loved by her family, late husband, close friends, and a few very lucky rescue cats.
One of five children, Dottie made it a priority to stay in close contact with her brother and sisters over the years. Her two daughters, Jenna Sampson (Steve) and Alyson Allen, along with her four grandchildren, Jacob Sampson, Corey Sampson, Alexys Allen, and Kaitlyn Allen were her pride and joy. She never missed a birthday phone call, and always documented family time together with one of her numerous disposable cameras. Dottie would also send a card in the mail for the smallest of occasions, just so you knew she was thinking of you. Dottie had a heart of gold, and no one left her house without a big hug and a kiss on the cheek.
Each day, Dottie found joy in the small pleasures of life. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, card games (her favorite was Gin Rummy), watching the Game Show Network, and cheering on her favorite NASCAR racers. She also loved bird watching, and would excitedly announce each red and yellow finch that landed outside her window. Dottie would often reminisce on her years spent in Maine, and was well-known for her East-Coast accent and lighthouse collection. She donated many of her favorite items to the Lighthouse Family Restaurant in Rochester, Illinois, one of her favorite breakfast spots.
Dottie’s witty sense of humor, caring touch, and positive outlook will be sorely missed. Everyone who met her is a better person because of it.
Her funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 29th at 11:00 am at  Wilson Park Funeral Home, followed by a burial service at Rochester Cemetery and a celebration of life at the Elks Lodge #158.
