Mamie Jean Walters - January 09, 1947 - July 29, 2018

Departed: 07/29/2018 (Crockett)
Obituary Preview: Mamie Jean Walters (1947-2018), born in Washington, D.C., and a long-time resident of Crockett, CA, died on July 29, age 71. She was the only child of Calvin A. and Jean Brown Walters, both deceased.
Walters, who graduated with a M.S. degree in clinical psychology from San Francisco State University in 1984, was known by colleagues and hundreds of clients as a distinguished and effective marriage and family counselor. Operating in tandem with her work as a therapist, Walters maintained a vibrant life as a painter of landscapes (with a specialty in plein aire), still life, and the figure. After transferring to the University of Texas at Austin from the University of St. Thomas in Houston, TX, where she studied for three years, Walters earned a B.F.A. in studio art in 1971. She attributed much of her direction as a painter to her experiences while on scholarship in 1970 at Skowhegan School, Maine. It was there, she wrote in an artist statement, that her attention was turned to contemporary realism and moved from abstraction to become “a painter of my culture and of my time” and explored “the mystery of being, which I believe is always at the heart of creative endeavors.”
While at university in Austin, Walters met Jerry Michael Daviee who was completing a master’s degree in art history. After graduation, the two moved to Amarillo, TX, for work, then to San Francisco where Walters completed her master’s degree and Daviee an M.F.A. He became curator of art for the American Museum Association and later served as the grants officer for the Oakland Museum of California while Walters developed her career in counseling while employed with the Marin County Mediation Services and Catholic Charities.
It was in the small town of Crockett that the couple found community and gained new friends. It was those friends, and others scattered throughout the Bay Area, that gave Walters support when her husband, Jerry, died from complications related to dementia in 2017 — and again until her own death from cancer sixteen months later. An informal memorial service for Walters will be held at the Port Costa Burlington Hotel, 5 p.m., 30 September 2018.

Rosemarie M. Flores - January 21, 1967 - May 27, 2018

Departed: 05/27/2018 (Crockett)
Obituary Preview: Rosemarie Flores was born January 21st, 1967 in Castro Valley, California to Patricia McClanahan.  She and her brother Raymond enjoyed their early childhood years living in El Cerrito and the greater San Francisco Bay Area.  In her teens, Rose celebrated the Holy Ghost Festival with the El Cerrito Portuguese Society, walking the Parade as a Festa Lady in attendance to the Queen.
A quiet and well-mannered child, Rose was by no means meek. Unafraid of a fight, she always stood up to bullies, both for herself and for others.  As gentle as she was tough, Rose left a heart-felt impression on many of her classmates, and a harsh imprint on those unlucky enough to cross her.
Rose’s love for thrillers and horror films was wonderfully notorious. She was fascinated with exploring the grit of humanity, and found value in stories that explore the dark recesses of the world and the lengths to which the human spirit will go to find resolution. No doubt, Rose found a certain inspiration with mystery and danger, and sought to explore it in adventurous ways.
Rose took on the role as the exciting big sister to Sarah, Amber, Eric and Timmy, leaving ever-lasting memories to their tender years. As her brothers and sisters grew to school-age, Rosemarie began a tradition of taking each on grand adventures whenever and wherever the opportunity arose.  She had a talent for creating energetic, fun-filled weekend getaways, and added her own originality and enthusiasm to all their activities.
As she regularly attended her siblings’ field trips, Rose gained a reputation among parents and teachers as the wise cracker and commentator. No location or atmosphere was off-limits. Whether sitting through a musical, or visiting the Botanical Garden, Rose made sure no moment ever passed without some hard-punching joke that would send everyone into a laughing fit.
Like a good comedian, Rose knew how to read the mood of her un-witting audience and respond in such a way as to alleviate any boring or tense situation. Very receptive, and a keen eye for observational humor, Rose’s ability to deliver brilliant one-liners in difficult situations was legendary.  Such wittiness and charisma would be an enduring mark of her relationship.
Rosemarie and Ronald first met at Toot’s in 2005.  Ronald saw the kind heart under her stern and intimidating presentation. He would fall in love with Rose’s beauty, charm and honesty.  Ron was deeply moved by Rose’s warmth and protective nature with her son, Nicholas.  And with his patience, bravery and perseverance, Ron would soon win Rose’s heart.
Rose and Ron would embark on their own adventures throughout their thirteen-years together with unfettered devotion. Together, they made an impassioned effort to raise Nicholas with the same thoughtfulness and firm moral compass that reflected their own wonderful qualities. Both Rose and Ron brought up Nicholas to be a thoughtful, respectable, conscientious young man, worthy of recognition.
A mother, a sister, a daughter and a partner; Rose is remembered for her fun spirit, sharp wit, loving embrace and striking beauty.  It will be her voice that narrates our lives, her creative words that see us through our troubles, and her tone that underscores our joy.
May Rosemarie’s love, humor and fighting spirit cast a light down on all of those she loved.

Art was a fun and loving father to his family. Later in life Art married Lynn and they made their home in Roseville. His Roseville friends were a great support in these last years, especially since Lynn's passing.  Art had a storied and successful career in title insurance and real estate. His experience and influence allowed him to inspire and create opportunities to help others. Art had a spirited social life. He was involved in many activities with a particular interest in shaking dice, pinochle, bocce, and a good game of poker. He enjoyed traveling, old movies, and big band music. Art belonged to various civic and social groups, none more prestigious than the Town Clowns and the Friday Lunch Bunch. His sense of humor and passion for trivia were an enjoyment for him and for those around him. Art was proud of his Portuguese heritage. He treasured his Joseph family, spending many hours with them at Joseph's Fishing Resort and other family gatherings.  Art leaves behind his devoted children, Sean, Erin, and Tara, and his precious granddaughter Holly.
