Departed: 02/22/2024 (Midland)
Obituary Preview: Lynda Fay Kiser, 80, passed away peacefully on February 22, 2024, in Odessa, TX in her home with most of her family. Lynda was born in Abilene, TX to Zula Lee Elliott and Raymond Alexander Elliott on April 12, 1943.
She went to Odessa High School in Odessa, TX. When she was 26, she met Melvin Wayne Kiser, who she thought was her age. She didn’t find out until several years after they married, because he knew she wouldn’t go out with someone 3 years younger since she had 2 small children. They have been married for almost 54 years and they married on August 14, 1970, in Midland, TX because Melvin’s co-workers threatened shenanigans for newlyweds…it took them 2 years to discover he had gotten married.
She worked several jobs: waitressing, school cafeteria, Texas Instruments, 7/11, Fraternal Order of Police, and a homemaker who took in several “adopted children” and loved them as her own. She was a Bible believer who loved the Lord and helped out anyone she could.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother Charles Elliott; sister Betty Williams; brother Bruce Elliott; and sister Carolyn Bowen.
Lynda is survived by her husband and caregiver, Melvin, her children, Ronny Lee Redman and Gayla Sharee Van Vooren and husband Craig Allen Van Vooren, grandchildren, Raymond Redman, Raechil Redman, Rayanna Campbell, Randi Redman, Alyssa Jackson, Ashtyn DesPres, and 9 great-grandchildren with another on the way.
Lynda and her family chose cremation, and there will be no services. You may pay your respects through this website.
Our family wishes to extend our deepest thanks to Home Hospice for their amazing, loving care for Lynda and our family. We would also like to thank Gerrid Bowen, Dorothy Baker, Terry Pugh, Bobbie Donaldson, and everyone who has been praying for us and showing Lynda love in these last trying years. Thank you to our loving neighbors, family, and friends for your love and kindness. We appreciate you and pray blessings to you.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an obituary?

An obituary is a written notice that announces the death of a person, typically including their name, age, date of birth and death, and a brief biography. It may also include information about their family, accomplishments, and funeral or memorial services.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to inform friends, family, and community members of a person's passing, allowing them to pay their respects and offer condolences. They also provide a lasting tribute to the deceased, preserving their memory and legacy for generations to come.

Who typically writes an obituary?

The task of writing an obituary usually falls to the family members or close friends of the deceased. In some cases, a funeral home or mortuary may assist with writing the obituary, but it's often preferred that those closest to the person write it themselves.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A typical obituary includes the person's full name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, education, military service (if applicable), hobbies, achievements, and surviving family members. It may also mention any charitable organizations or causes that were important to the deceased.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary greatly, depending on the individual's life and accomplishments. Generally, it's recommended to keep it concise and focused on the most important details, aiming for around 150-250 words.

Can I include photos in an obituary?

Yes, many newspapers and online obituary platforms allow you to include one or more photos of the deceased. This can be a great way to personalize the obituary and make it more engaging.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper?

Contact the newspaper's obituary department directly to inquire about their submission process and any specific requirements they may have. Be prepared to provide the written obituary, along with any photos or other supporting materials.

Can I publish an obituary online?

Absolutely! Online obituary platforms and funeral home websites often allow you to publish an obituary digitally. This can be a convenient way to share the news with a wider audience and allow people to leave condolences and memories.

How long does it take for an obituary to be published?

The publication timeline varies depending on the newspaper or online platform. Some may publish immediately, while others may take several days or even weeks. Be sure to check with the publication or platform for their specific guidelines.

Can I make changes to an obituary after it's been published?

In most cases, changes can be made to an online obituary relatively easily. However, making changes to a printed newspaper obituary may be more difficult or impossible after publication. It's essential to proofread carefully before submitting the final version.

How much does it cost to publish an obituary?

The cost of publishing an obituary varies widely depending on the newspaper, online platform, or funeral home. Some may offer free or low-cost options, while others may charge by the word or line. Be sure to ask about pricing when submitting your obituary.

What is a death notice?

A death notice is a brief announcement of someone's passing, typically including only the most basic information such as name, age, and date of death. It's often used in situations where a full obituary is not desired or necessary.

What is the difference between an obituary and a eulogy?
