Rhonda Gail Hunt - July 13, 1973 - March 29, 2022

Departed: 03/29/2022 (Batesville)
Obituary Preview: Rhonda Gail Hunt gained her angel wings Tuesday, March 29, 2022, loved and surrounded by her children TaQuila Hunt and James Hunt. She lost a long and tough battle to cancer. She is preceded in death by her father, Darrell Hunt; her mother Odalene Hunt (Laxton); and her brother, James Hawkins Jr. She is survived by her sister, Debra Balser (Roger); and two nephews, Michael and Stephen Balser.
Born July 13, 1973, she was a red headed wild child growing up. She believed that everyone needed a harmless outlet for stress and her outlet was “smoking a joint” and laying out in the sunshine. She loved music. All of it, from Creed to Dolly to ZZ Top. She loved dancing barefoot in the kitchen, yard, and even at the clubs. She also loved to go arrowhead hunting. She was one of the greatest basketball players back in her high school days. She graduated high school and later in life she went to nursing school. She pursued an occupation in the nursing field for the remainder of her career.
Rhonda had an amazing sense of humor, a remarkable laugh, and a smile that could brighten any room. She was known to shock you with some of the things she would say, but it was always in hopes of helping you see a new perspective. She was a hot head at times, but she was always kind, generous, and compassionate, never not saying what was on her mind. She was very independent and loyal to her loved ones despite their quirks and dysfunction. She always worried about them, rooted for them, protected them, when need be, sometimes resented them, always forgave them, and forever loved them.
Rhonda will be desperately missed by all those she left behind. Our hearts are shattered. She was one of a kind and if you got the chance to be loved by her, you were truly blessed.

Eugene passed on to be with our Lord and Savior on March 11, 2022, at the age of 91. Eugene was born on February 21, 1931, in Mt. Pleasant, Tex., and married Martha Ellen Edwards on Aug. 26, 1950. They lived in Talco, Texas before relocating to Lubbock where they raised five sons. Eugene began his professional career in the bakery business, working for Baldridge Bread before accepting a job and settling his family in Batesville 1975. He was the general manager of Ideal Baking Company, until retiring from the bakery business after 42 years.
In his later years, he was known as a dedicated fisherman. He lived his retired days fishing his beloved White River. Any sunny day, chances are you could see Eugene on the bank or on the dam, with a minnow bucket by his side and a pole in his hand. He wasn’t much for talking, but his great big smile always reminded everyone he was happy they were there. A little dog didn’t go without a home in his presence, nor did he pass a rubbish pile without trying to make good use of something. The yard was always mowed, and he lived for the days the crappie were biting on the annual fishing trip he took with his sons and grandsons for the last 28 years.
Eugene was stingy yet giving, quiet but profound. He was mysterious and transparent, and if a fish were involved the truth was somewhere in between. The most important thing he will be remembered as is PeePaw. With many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, he created a legacy that will live on and have positive impacts beyond any earthly visions.
At 91 years young he savored his independence, planning every day as he saw fit. Eugene was able to cook, able to travel, and able to fish until his last day.

He has advocated for the NRLCA whether it was testifying before Congress, meeting with individual congressmen/women, or meeting with the Postmaster General. He was always so proud to stand up for what he believed. Gus also served on various committees and served as National PAC Chairman after his retirement.
His job allowed him to travel all over the country and meet many wonderful people including the love of his life, Shirley. Gus took the plunge and moved to Arkansas where they were married in Batesville. Gus loved attending church and being around his loving church family.
Gus was a kind and loving person. He was full of life, loved to make people laugh, and never met a stranger. Gus was an avid sports fan, which started at a young age when his dad would take him to EBBETS Field to watch the Brooklyn Dodger games. He always had a sports, NASCAR, or Mecum’s car show on the television. Gus loved playing cards, especially Texas Hold’em. But above all, he loved spending time with his family. Gus was a remarkable man, a loving husband, brother, father, grandfather, son, uncle, mentor, and friend whose memory will forever be cherished in the hearts of those that loved him. There was truly never a dull moment with Gus in our lives.
He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley Baffa; two daughters, Sarah Ploehn (Brian) and Ashley Snedker (Todd Nichols); beloved sister, Honey Alessi; brother-in-law, Ellis Tuten (Paulette); sister-in-law, Sharon Goforth; five grandchildren, Abby Maiorini, Richie Maiorini, Hannah Ploehn, Chesney Snedker, Shelbie Snedker; and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends that he loved.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
A celebration of life will be held on Gus's birthday, Wednesday, April 20, 2022, at Willis Funeral Service, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
