Obituary Preview: Michael “Mike” Johnson, age 54 of Atlanta, GA departed this life Tuesday night, May 7, 2024 in the Emory Healthcare Hospital. He was a native of Maxton, NC. Mike joined the Army after graduating from West Robeson HS in 1988. He served in the Army during Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm and received a Certificate of Appreciation for Outstanding and Dedicated Service.  He received an honorable discharge in September 1991. Mike attended ECPI, Greensboro, NC where he received his Certification in Medical Coding and Billing and went on to work at Duke Medical Center, Moses Cone, and Northside Hospital just to name a few.  Mike was a kind and generous individual who was loved by his family, friends, and community. He will be sorely missed. Mike is survived by his children: Kiona, Kyree, Mikiyah and Kendall, his mother Cynthia Johnson, one sister Heather and one Brother Kory.

Deseria Tawanna Carmichael was born on April 19, 1969, in Atlanta, Georgia, to the late Charles Carmichael Jr. and Eloise Payne (Carmichael) Banks .She was the second of three children.
Deseria was baptized at an early age at The Greater Travelers Rest Baptist Church. She later joined Thankful Baptist Church.
Deseria received her education in the DeKalb County GA Public Schools System, attending Chapel Hill Elementary School where she received honors in English. She attended Cedar Grove High School where she was a band member with the marching Saints and a member of the track team. She graduated in the class of 1987. After graduating from high school, Deseria pursued her higher education at the University of West Georgia for two years and transferred to Georgia State University.
She began her career working as a Housing Assistant for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development after graduating from high school. She later started working as a Customer Service Representative at the Lanier Corporation. Deseria was an excellent employee and she received several awards.
She will be forever remembered as the most genuine, loving and free-hearted person to her family. She was artistic with the ability to draw freehand from any photo or image. Her love of shopping was shown through her creativity of style and dress. She was very soft spoken and had an amazing sense of humor.
Deseria was preceded in death by her grandfather Curtis Payne, Sr., grandmother Rachel Copeland Payne, father Charles Carmichael, Jr, and stepfather Joe Davis Banks.
Deseria leaves to cherish her memories, her loving mother Eloise Payne Banks, two sisters Sonya Carmichael Phillips (Christopher), of Decatur, GA, Cheryl Carmichael Pressley (Joseph) of Atlanta, GA, One aunt Betty Jordan, two uncles, Curtis Payne Jr., and Charlie Payne, two nieces Sydnei Phillips, and Carson Pressley, one nephew Christian Phillips, a future niece Nycole Key, bonus sister Francina Banks, of Freeport, FL and extended family Enjoli Banks- Smith (Colin), Joseph Carlile; Shyheim Brown, Colin Smith,Jr., and Erin Smith; and several other cousins and friends.

Mr. Linwood Spencer Riley was born on July 30, 1930, to the late Presiding Elder, Rev. Dr. Freeman L. Riley, Sr., and Mrs. Georgia Woods Riley in Tifton Georgia. Linwood met his future wife, Anna Belle Lee while attending Booker T. Washinton High School. They were married for 61 years and to this union four children were born. Upon graduating from High School, he volunteered for service in the United States Navy where he earned a National Defense Service and a Good Conduct Medal. After being honorably discharged from the Navy, he enrolled in Morris Brown College where he earned a B.S. Degree in Education. He furthered his education at Atlanta University and earned a Master’s Degree in Education and an Education Specialist Degree, with a concentration in Administration. He was initiated into the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., Lambda Sigma Chapter. Also, he was a faithful member of the Morris Brown College T.A.Y. Club. He accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of Allen Temple AME church for 68 years. He faithfully served in various capacities including the Steward Board, Anthony Hartsfield Memorial Board, Male Chorus, and Choir #1. His talents and skills lead to employment at the United States Post Office in Downtown Atlanta. Wanting to spend more time with family, he began his teaching career with the Atlanta Public School System. During his 31 years of teaching, he taught at W. F. Slaton and Capitol View Elementary Schools. Linwood is preceded in death by his parents, Presiding Elder Rev. Dr. Freeman L. Riley, Sr., and Georgia Woods Riley; brothers, Freeman L. Riley, Jr., and Ralph W. Riley; sisters, Alice Marie Riley, and Toledo Alice Riley; and granddaughter, Tracie Riley. Survivors include, daughter, Lynette R. Golden (Jerome); son, Stanley G. Riley (Frankie); son, Phillip B. Riley; daughter, Kathy D. Riley; sister, Ruth Riley Glover; grandchildren, Christopher and Shari Golden; Leax Rice (Teri), Erin R. Ford (Rayshan); five great-grandchildren, Jade Jackson, Amiya Bethune, Raegan and Braylon Ford; sisters-in laws, Willibelle Harris (Raymond) and Elizabeth Riley; Nieces and Nephews: Rachelle Glover Reddick (James), Karen Glover Phillips, Geraldine Starks Glover, Glenda Riley, Paige Riley, Leondra Riley, Todd Harris (Phyllis), Deron Harris, Carla Harris-Hamilton; and a host of great great- grand nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.
