He also attended Wayne Community College, Lenoir Community College, Pitt Community.

shopping.

Mother Ethel Mae Baker transitioned from this life into peace and rest on March 21, 2024. She was born in Greene County, NC, on August 19, 1934, to the late Obie Ford and Minnie Bell Battle. She married the late Carl Lee Baker on February, 29, 1956, in Wayne County, NC.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda Baker, and a son, Bobby Lee Baker.
She went to school in Greene County and later received a certificate for food nutrition. She worked in the school system for 25 years. She retired afterward and took care of all her grandkids. She was well known for her good home-cooked meals. She loved her children and grandchildren with all her heart. She also loved the Lord and had a personal relationship with him. She has served on the usher board and, until her passing, served on the Motherboard of Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist.
Momma, as we affectionately called her, will be deeply missed by her family and friends who knew her.
She is survived by her children Michael Baker(Ayana) and Regina King (Billy) of Goldsboro, NC, and Leonard Ford of Dallas, TX; her grandchildren Barbara, Tonniqua, Shontel, Tiana, and Devonte; great-grandchildren Boohdah, Quaniyah, and Vermel (baby); special nieces Lisa (Michael Sutton) and Rhonda Lofton; one brother-in-law James Lee Baker; and a host of other nieces, nephews, and many special friends.

Alvin Phillp Coley Jr., born on May 14, 1973, in Virginia to Alvin Philip Coley Sr. and Angie Sheard Coley, passed away on March 4, 2024, at his residence in Goldsboro, North Carolina. A proud alumnus of Eastern Wayne High School, class of 1992, Alvin embarked on a professional career in the trucking industry following his graduation. He was a revered member of the New Covenant Christian Center (NCCC), where he diligently served in multiple capacities, including the usher board, security guard, and a steadfast supporter of pastoral leadership since January 2020. Alvin held a deep affection for his Pastor, First Lady, and his church community, a sentiment that was whole-heartedly reciprocated.
Predeceased by his father, Alvin Phillip Coley Sr., his mother, Angie Sheard Coley, and his sister, Tanya Nicole Forbes, Alvin's legacy will be carried on by his beloved family members, including three sons: Kelvin (Semira) Coley and Jakarius Coley of Goldsboro, Kayden Sanders of Jacksonville; his sisters, Rosemary (Raquim) Ellis and Phyllis "Candy" (Sedric) Manely, along with three aunts, four uncles, and a cherished collective of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends, all of whom will forever treasure his memory.

Sylvia Grace Pridgen departed this life on February 16, 2024.
She was born on December 20, 1941, in Jason, North Carolina to John Daly Pridgen and Rosa Lee Petteway Pridgen.
She was educated at Greene County Schools. In her younger years, she worked on the farm processing tobacco.
Around 1960, She move to Newark, New Jersey to experience the big city life. She worked for Remco Toy Company during the 1960’s. She also was employed as a custodian engineer at Seton Hall University in the 1970’s. She retired in the early 2000’s. After retiring she traveled to California and other exciting places. In 2006, She moved into a Senior Development where she became quite the gardener, growing vegetables such as collard greens, peas, and tried to grow watermelons, but that didn’t work out.
She enjoyed listening to the old Doo-Wop music from the 1950’s and 1960’s, along with country music that reflected her earlier years in the south. She loved to collect old coins, painting, and drawing. She loved cooking Sunday Dinners and inviting family over. She was very passionate about her faith, kids, family, and friends. She had an impeccable style and class when it came to clothes and always carried herself with a little sass. She was confident, independent and courageous and knew who she was.
She was preceded in death by her parents John (Rosa) Pridgen, brothers, Paul Hardy, Willie Pridgen, John D. Pridgen, Leroy Pridgen, Larry Pridgen and sister; Ceola Joyce Best.
She leaves to cherish her memories, one sister; Blonnie Mae Parks (Leamon), two sons; Ervin Junior Pridgen(Gwendolyn) of California, Dennis Earl Pridgen of Goldsboro, Six grandchildren; Alnisa Williams, Iyonna Butler, Nakia Atkins, Marcus Pridgen, Shala Pridgen and Misha Pridgen; fifteen great grandkids and a host of family and friends.

Pastor Ward made her heavenly transition on Monday, Feb. 12, at ECU Health Medical Center surrounded by family. She was born on July 21, 1939, in Wayne County to Kirby and Viola Lewis Whitfield. She is survived by her three children, Deboria Ward Hill, Dr. Frances Ward-Johnson, and Roeshyon Ward; her sister, Macie Campbell of Goldsboro; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A celebration of her life and homegoing services will be held Saturday, Feb. 24, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at Love Temple, 201 N. Oak Forest Road, Goldsboro, N.C. Eulogist will be Bishop Devin C. Pickett, Pastor of Saint Delight Church and Presiding Prelate/Southern District Convocation of the United Holy Church of America. Pastor Ward will be laid to rest at the Old Mill Cemetery, Goldsboro, N.C.
A visitation will be held Friday, Feb. 23, 2024, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., with family receiving friends from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Williams and Ashford Funeral Directors and Cremation Services of Goldsboro.

David Ray Williams was born in Charleston, West Virginia, to the late Lorenzo Gene Williams and Juanita Hazel Williams on October 08, 1958. He spent his formative years in the Philadelphia School district and completed High school at Benjamin Franklin High School. He was so proud to have completed these accomplishments that he would often sing his graduation song Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head by B.J Thomas. His brother Ray loved and would laugh each time he sang this song.
David served in the United States Army for four years. After being honorably discharged from the Army, he returned to Philadelphia and worked as a Nurse Aide. David was employed at the Philadelphia Nursing Home. During his tenure there, he cared for nine patients daily.
If you knew Dave, you knew he loved to party, especially with his brother Ray. He and Ray were the life of the party. If you saw David, Ray was right behind him. In the neighborhood, he was known as Disco Dave, the man on the wheels of steel. Someone was always requesting him to DJ for parties and block parties. David was also known in the neighborhood for his hand carwashes. He was the only man in North Philly who could hand wash and detail your car in about 40 minutes. By the time David finished, your vehicle looked brand new and shiny. He was the best! He loved to play chess often with his brother Ray, who could never beat him. David had an upbeat personality and a go-with-the-flow attitude. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and being a comedian.
On Friday, February 8, 2024, David took his last breath. He was preceded in death by his parents Lorenzo and Juanita Williams, his brother Shawn Williams, and Raymond Williams. He leaves to mourn his daughter India Thompson, his bonus daughter Dominique Holmes, and bonus son Kenneth Rayford; Grand Children Nevayah, Nieirah, Namire, Nuri, Nylise, and N’Yell, bonus Grand Children Kabir, Zaki, Zuhad, Zameer, and Jream; Sisters Debra Williams, Lavinia Williams, and Brenda Williams of Philadelphia; Brothers Johnny Williams of West Virginia, and Billy Weedon, and Floyd McMillian of Philadelphia; and a host of nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Mr. Anthony Vernado Lane, son of the late Sylvester Lane, Jr. and Ella Hamilton Lane, was born on June 3, 1958, in Wayne County, NC. He answered the Master’s Call on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at the Wayne UNC Health Care Center, Goldsboro, NC.
Reared in Goldsboro, NC, Anthony, affectionately known as Tommy, attended Wayne County Public Schools. Upon completion of High School, Tommy attended Fayetteville State University, majoring in Music Education. His love for music has afforded him the opportunity to play behind some very well-known artists in his career, including Roberta Flack and Johnny Taylor, to name a few. He was a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan and would often get into debates with his neighbor. He believed that watching the game at his mother's house brought him bad luck. The eldest of two children, Tommy has always had a nurturing spirit and loves dogs, cooking, and eating. For many years, Tommy worked as a Furniture mover and as a musician with many different NC Symphony Orchestras up and down the East Coast.
A man of faith, Tommy enjoyed reading the bible and attending church with his mother. His favorite scripture is “ 2 Chronicles 7:14: If My people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
Tommy touched many lives.
Tommy was preceded in death by his father, Sylvester Lane, Jr.; his maternal and paternal grandparents, as well as two aunts and one uncle.
He leaves to cherish his memories: his mother, Ella Lane; his sister, Antonya V. Lane; one daughter, Jasmine Lane; and three grandchildren; two aunts, Janice Sharpley and Marion Lane; three uncles: Charles Lane, Ronnie Hamilton, and Clarence Hamilton, and many other relatives and friends.
