John Henry Prudden - April 08, 1964 - May 17, 2021

Departed: 05/17/2021 (Chester)
Obituary Preview: John Henry Prudden, son of the late Herbert A. Prudden and Mary Ann DeCelles, was born April 8, 1964 in Morristown, New Jersey. After a courageous three-year battle with cancer, John passed away peacefully on Monday, May 17, 2021, surrounded by family and friends at home in Long Valley, NJ.
John grew up in Green Village-Chatham Township, NJ and graduated from Chatham High School in Chatham, NJ. After high school, John quickly became enamored with fast cars and fighting fires, two passions he carried with him throughout his life. John was always captivated by a sleek or rugged, automatic or stick, fast or fuel-efficient ride. In fact, that was exactly the point, he was excited by the ride or journey which enabled him to reach his ultimate destination. John was always bold, brave and fearless. He was truly known as the guy who would run toward the fire, as opposed to running away from it. He spent twenty years of his life as a volunteer firefighter for Green Village Fire department, and five of those years as the Fire Chief for the station. Safety, Security and Saving lives were three of John’s mantras that he believed in deeply.
The theme of security was so ingrained in John’s DNA, that he made a very successful career out of it by diligently advancing his career from a manager to a Vice President of Operational Risk and Control at Pershing, LLC. This was genuinely one of John’s proudest and most rewarding professional accomplishments. As a self-identified control freak, he leveraged this alluring attribute to meet and marry Paola over 15 years ago, who also shares this magical trait. John carried many titles throughout his life, which were all reflective of his achievements, contributions and who he was as a person. And the top two most significant and special titles were ‘Babe’ and ‘Dad.’ As both a husband and a father, John was a phenomenal family man. There was nothing he would not do, deliver or dare to dream for Paola, Steph, Samster and Itchy. John loved his family fiercely and dedicated his life and love to ensuring they were ready for the world. Whether he was stock piling their basement with generators, or creating a backup plan to the original plan, or teaching each one of his children not only how to drive a car, but also how to repair the car. Team Prudden was always prepared for anything.
John epitomized the meaning of friend. I’ll be there for you was his theme song long before the hit show. He has literally rolled up his sleeves while wearing a suit, provided a place to live, driven out of state at midnight to help, and coached, cried, created and comforted in the name of friendship. His forever friend, Bruce McDougall aka Moe, can certainly relate to the gift and blessing of John’s friendship. John was also spontaneous, fun loving and adventurous. If there was an extreme sport or an outdoor excursion, he was all in, going for it and bringing Team Prudden along to enjoy the experience. For John, life was an experience to be appreciated, enjoyed and remembered. Professionally, he may have been more of a risk manager, than a risk taker, but by all accounts, John never missed an opportunity to have a lot of fun, put a lot of smiles on people’s faces, and make a lot of special memories with family and friends.
John possessed an indomitable spirit and bravery beyond belief. He exuded heroism in every aspect of his life. And, his optimism was powered by his love for and devotion to his family. He relied on these traits to valiantly face the biggest fight of his life. He will always be remembered for his heroic efforts as a father, friend and firefighter; corny jokes, proactive planning, ability to fix and figure out anything, fast and furious cars, and most of all, his gigantic and generous heart that will continue to shower love on his beloved family and friends forever.
John was predeceased by his Father, Herbert A. Prudden and Mother, Mary Ann Prudden. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Paola Prudden; two daughters, Samantha and Isabella; one son, Stephano; two brothers, Tom and Steven; two sisters, Betty Coleman & Barbara Carpenter, seventeen nieces & nephews; and a host of many other cousins, aunts, uncles and dear friends.

John J. Reilly - June 09, 1942 - April 19, 2021

Departed: 04/19/2021 (Chester)
Obituary Preview: April 21, 2021
John Reilly, 78, of Califon, NJ died on April 19, 2021 in Hope, New Jersey.
Born on June 9th, 1942 in Brooklyn NY to John (Jack Reilly) and Mary Dolan Reilly. He is preceded in death by his parents, his Aunt Alice Dolan and his beloved sisters Eileen Donlon, Joan Daly and Jaqueline Cohen as well as their spouses, his brothers in law Joseph Donlon, Eugene Daly, and Donald Cohen.
He is survived by his high school sweetheart, wife, and best friend of 59 years, Gail Reilly, his daughters Adriene Makstein, Mandy Reilly, their spouses Marshall Makstein and Trevor Lewis and his granddaughters, Madeline and Rachel Makstein. He also leaves his dearest friends Tony and Maryellen Forgione and Roland and Monica Grover who he considered family, as well as his nieces and nephews Joseph, Eileen, Steven, Matthew, Neil, Peggy, Mary Kay, Thomas, Maureen, Donald and Christopher.
John (Uncle Johnny) was an individual. For better or worse, he was fiercely nonconformist. He valued creativity, diversity, and above all, originality. He taught us to be ourselves unabashedly so that others might have the courage to do the same. He consistently reminded us to "hang out with people who are different from you." because he understood how that would broaden our worldview and cause a ripple effect. He had a deep appreciation for oral tradition. Be it written, spoken, painted or sung; storytelling is what he valued absolutely. He believed that the richness of the story is what endures and what connects us to one another and the world. He found humor everywhere and those who made him laugh, especially at himself, became friends. He was not a religious person, though it was the spirit of people, places and living things that moved him the most. He had strong faith and a big spirit. As his niece Mary Kay put it "he loved loudly". He loved family and friends, the NY Giants, art museums, Broadway Musicals, Cole Porter, the game of Chess, his Golden Retriever, David, painting "joyful" scenes, and Gail, the love of his life.
John graduated from Art & Design High School in Manhattan and went on to become a master speedball style hand letterer in Brooklyn in the early 1960s. He later worked for many years as a successful creative director and advertising account manager in NYC. Throughout his life his passion and contribution was as a prolific painter. He was a longtime member of the Salmagundi Club and The Arts Students League and he studied portrait painting with Everett Raymond Kinsler (1926-2019) who he considered a close friend and mentor. John's work is held in private collections throughout the east coast of the US and in Ireland. Some of his work can be viewed at JohnReillyGallery.com.
