Christina M. Houghtaling - January 30, 1952 - May 16, 2024

Departed: 05/16/2024 (Poughkeepsie)
Obituary Preview: Christina Mary Houghtaling, 72, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family and devoted caregiver Rosa Ramirez on May 16, 2024. She had suffered from Parkinson’s disease for many years.
Chris was born January 30, 1952 the eldest child of William and Lillian Gleason Houghtaling. She was a lifelong resident of the City of Poughkeepsie. Chris was a graduate of Poughkeepsie High School, Dutchess Community College and Vassar College, class of 1974 where she majored in art history. Chris had a successful career with IBM where she was held in high regard for her integrity, work ethic, and willingness to share her knowledge and skills. Chris was well known for her sense of humor and camaraderie.
Chris loved animals, especially cats of which she had many over the years. Rusty and Shelly were her last faithful companions. She loved to read and had a phenomenal memory. She was a supporter and patron of many art museums. Chris was a circus enthusiast and as a kid would have run away with Ringling Brothers if she could have. Back in the day Chris enjoyed a dry Beefeater martini and a good meal. Her hearty laugh will always be remembered.
Although she suffered much, Chris never complained. Her last days were filled with feistiness and good humor. It wasn’t always easy for her to be the oldest of seven kids but as a big sister she led by example: be kind, be generous, be humble. Chrissy forged her own path in life and was an independent soul. She is survived by her siblings Maureen Houghtaling, Ginger Whiteley, William Houghtaling (Anne Dexter), Diane Houghtaling, Rosemary Farrell (Tom), and Susan Morano (Anthony). Chris was a giving and loving aunt and great aunt to: Nicholas Whiteley (Sharon); Daniel Whiteley (Alyson); Ryan Farrell; Erin Farrell; Vincent Morano (Kristina); Antonia Morano; Diana Morano; Giovanni Morano (her godson); Dominick, Jonathan and Nolan Whiteley. Her Houghtaling, Quigley, Moran and Vikre cousins also survive her. Chris was predeceased by her parents, her brother-in- law Noel Whiteley and her partner Noreen Ringwood.
Chris’s family is forever grateful to Rosa Ramirez. Thanks to Rosa’s loving care Chrissy was able to stay in her home and enjoy the last year of her life in comfort, peace, and dignity. We also thank Hudson Valley Hospice for their care and support of Chris and special gratitude to all her substitute caregivers.
Donations in Chris’s name can be made to Hudson Valley Hospice and Hudson Valley Animal Rescue and Sanctuary.

Rebecca Lynn Seto - November 04, 1992 - May 03, 2024

Departed: 05/03/2024 (Poughkeepsie)
Obituary Preview: Rebecca Lynn Seto, 31, went to be with Jesus on May 3, 2024. The sadness her mom and dad, Linda and John Seto, sister and brother-in-law, Charlee and Zach Weiss, maternal grandparents, Jacci and Mike Milo, plus many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, teachers, therapists and aides feel is tempered knowing that she met her paternal grandfather, David Seto, for the first time and was also reunited with and welcomed by several who love her including, her paternal grandmother, Mary Lou Seto, her maternal great grandfather and mother, Charlie and Lydia (GiGi) Milo, Auntie Ella and Uncle Dave Beach, Aunt Eileen Duffy, Auntie Fran Allen and Uncle Mickey Prisco.
Family was most important to Becky. She was so happy at family gatherings and singing Happy Birthday really excited her. She was an active, lifelong member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. She loved attending church services and functions. Becca Lynn loved socializing with her church family, classmates, friends and even strangers. She seemed to forget that school was for learning as demonstrated by her receiving ISS for enthusiastically communicating with her fellow students during class.
Becky’s contagious smile and laughter lit up rooms and stadiums. She was ecstatic at her first live game watching her beloved NY Giants, a thrashing, but seemed to project her ear-to-ear smile on everyone that saw her. That same smile and laughter were present during many of the activities she loved, such as riding roller coasters, dancing, kayaking, drumming, swimming and bike riding. Her mode changed to cool dudette while floating down a lazy river – it was difficult to get her out at times. Beck and her sister could not be trusted. Rebecca would frequently scheme. Her cohort in crime, Charlee, would facilitate executing those schemes. Beck would also take her sister out for ice cream where they would scheme together. Mom and Rebecca, aka Boo Burger and sixteen other endearing nicknames her mom gave her, would play music with her adapted CD player, play games, bake, read and much more. Mom and she would regularly get out to spend time with Becky’s friends. One of Becky’s favorite things to do was to hang out with her dad. They would also frequently be out and about (before COVID) shopping, biking and going on daddy daughter dates. They would never be doing anything weird…well, maybe we should switch that to what happens in Sam’s Club stays in Sam’s Club. Becky, her mom and her dad adapted to COVID self-sequestering, which they did to keep Becky safer, by doing more silly stuff around the house. Becky demanded it! Becky’s beautiful, brown, expressive eyes communicated so much. Sometimes, we didn’t want to hear it! Her eyes have been donated and will help another person see. Rebecca would keep her family in line with just a glance. Her family believes Becca Lynn will live on in her eyes. How will others respond when they receive her “do it NOW!” looks?
The family is looking into setting up a scholarship in Rebecca’s name ideally benefiting those studying special education, occupational therapy or physical therapy. Check back here to get status updates.
A memorial service will be held on July 13th at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Poughkeepsie, NY. More information will be available here shortly.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Wm. G. Miller & Son FH, Inc.

John was an avid horseplayer, and was at the 8th pole at Belmont Park in 1973 when Secretariat won the Triple Crown. He spent many a mid- to late-summer day on “Dervin Hill” in the backyard at Saratoga Racecourse. He was a fan of the Giants, Mets, and Rangers. Once as a very young boy at the Polo Grounds in New York City, after a New York Giants baseball game, he ran onto the field and slid the wrong way into second base.
He was a great fan of the Beatles and U2. With a quick wit and appreciation for the unconventional, John often told people that he raised his kids on George Carlin. He was a trivia master with a competitive streak when it came to board games, and passed that trait along to his four kids as well.
A friend to many over the years in Poughkeepsie, John was known for his easygoing nature, sense of humor, and love of a good time.

Departed: 03/22/2024 (Poughkeepsie)
Obituary Preview: Theresia Kizina, 94, of Poughkeepsie, NY passed away on Friday, March 22, 2024 at Vassar Brother’s Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. She was born on October 5, 1929, in Romania, the daughter of Martin and Katharina Schwartz Bach.
Her father was in the military. At the age of 3, she remembers dancing as her father played the accordion in a band.
In 1944 the Russians came so she, her brother and mother left and went to Austria, near Vienna. They traveled on a train with soldiers, and remembers hearing the shooting and running into the corn fields.
In 1951, Cousin Margaret and her husband Mike moved to the states. In April 1956, Theresia followed.
Theresia worked at McAllister dress shop, on Clinton Square as a dressmaker. She had learned to sew when she was still in Romania. She learned English by watching the Yankees on TV, a pastime she enjoyed throughout her life, and at night School at Arlington High School. She became manager of the shop and she continued in this capacity for 20 years until the arterial highway came through and the shop was closed. Theresia met Bill Kizina in 1957 at Germania. In 1958, as things got more serious, she began to accompany him to church at First Lutheran. From the moment she walked in, “the Church caught my heart and soul, and after all these years, I’m still here.” She attended regularly after that, and it helped that there was a German service. She enjoyed the people, the building and Pastor Schreiber. In 1961, they were married. She had Lutheran instruction and was confirmed. She soon became involved in LCW, Lutheran Church Women, thanks to Mrs. Wolff
Through the years she has been active in many ministries, the Priscilla Circle, visiting at Hudson River Psychiatric Center, helping with Lunch and Listen, dinners, Thanksgiving Baskets, and she has been coordinating the fellowship for our German Services since 1980. Most of you know Theresia’s fondness for coupons. She has been coupon shopping since 1994 and has donated many items to Dutchess Outreach and the Grace Smith House. Through her caring ministry, she has come to know many members.
She was an excellent cook and avid gardener. She enjoyed sharing both the flowers and knowledge about growing them with others.
Theresia is survived by her loving friends and church family. She was predeceased by her husband, Bill. She will be greatly missed.
