Delwyn Gail Kays - February 04, 1963 - May 09, 2024

Departed: 05/09/2024 (Chubbuck)
Obituary Preview: Delwyn Kays came into this world on February 4, 1963, in the cozy town of Taree, Australia, bringing joy to her parents, Ken and Dorothy Drury. God brought her and her soulmate together at Kingsley Bible College in 1984, sparking a love story that would span continents and decades.
On December 20, 1986, Delwyn and James were married, beginning a journey that took them from the bustling streets of Melbourne, Australia to the beautiful city of Clairemont, California, and eventually bringing them here, to Pocatello, Idaho where she lived until her passing on May 9, 2024. Through it all, their bond grew stronger, a testament to 37 years of love, joy, and unwavering support.
Delwyn's life was a beautiful melody composed of faith, family, and service. Being very active at University Bible Church, she poured her heart into organizing the AWANA Bible Club, leaving an unforgettable mark on the lives she touched. She homeschooled all 5 of her children and taught them, with everything she had, to follow Jesus and to love God above all else.
Her joys were simple yet meaningful—caring for her family, diving into the pages of her beloved Bible, and sewing baby slings for families in need. She found solace in the beauty of nature, relishing walks with her loved ones and finding inspiration in the melodies of Christian music.
Delwyn's legacy lives on in the hearts of her devoted husband, Jim, her beloved children—Nathan, Tauryel, Abraham, Sarah, and David— her seven siblings and her seven beautiful grandchildren.
She was a loving wife, sister, mother, and grandmother. She will be very dearly missed. We can only imagine the joy she must be experiencing in heaven and so we must say goodbye for now until we see her again.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 13, 2024 at the University Bible Church, 4700 N Philbin Rd, Chubbuck, Idaho. A viewing will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Sunday, May 12, 2024 at Wilks Funeral Home and for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow the service in the Mountain View Cemetery. To watch the funeral services, click here

Obituary Preview: On May 2, 2024, at 5:00 pm Cindy Malm passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her daughters and one of her best friends after battling illness for the last year.
Cindy was born in Council Bluff, IA to Cleo and Doris Wohlenhaus on October 7, 1951, and grew up with her younger brother Brent Wohlenhaus in Lewis, IA. Cindy and Brent grew up helping their mom and dad on the farm in a home full of love and laughter. She went to school at Griswold High School, graduating in 1969. Cindy was loved by many during her high school years enjoying Cheerleading and hanging out with friends. Cindy has always been known for her beautiful blue eyes and blonde hair. The friends she made in High School were lifelong friends who still would get together and go on trips each year and have the time of their lives. After High School Cindy moved 1200 miles away from her friends and family to go to college in Pocatello Idaho at Idaho State University where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts. Cindy absolutely loved acting and was in several plays with a few leading roles. Cindy later married Martell Malm and adopted his 3-yr old daughter Danielle Malm (now Owens). Cindy had several
miscarriages until her first born Alexis Malm came into this world on February 6, 1978. One year later Cindy would give birth to Justin Malm on August 1 st , 1979, who tragically passed away on August 2 1979. Cindy was then told it was too dangerous to have any more children, but she was determined to have another child with or without the help of her doctor or husband and she gave birth to Amber Malm (now Rowberry) on May 19, 1981. Cindy lived for her children and her grandchildren. There was not a day that went by that she was not thinking about them, talking with or about them, and being with them. She truly made this world a better place for anyone she ever had contact with and will be truly missed. Cindy loved reading, watching movies, going to yard sales, visiting with friends, but above all she loved her family.
Cindy began her law enforcement career starting as a Detention Officer working for the Bannock County Sheriff office. After about 3 years became a corporal, then about 2 years later to sergeant and after another 5 years Cindy was promoted to Commander over the detention center and was the first female in the state of Idaho to run a detention center later being awarded on May 3, 1995 “Correctional Officer of the Year” by the American Jail Association.
Cindy wore many hats during this period of her life including being an instructor at ISU and POST academy and became partner in “Bill Lynn Training and Consulting” where she also taught law enforcement officers across the nation, and she did this all while being a single mother to her 2 daughters at home after her divorce in 1993. Cindy Retired from the Bannock County jail and began working at Fort Hall Police Department then went to Madison County Sheriff office as the Jail Administrator. Cindy later retired from the Madison County Sheriff department and finished her Career working for the Idaho Sherif’s Association as the jail inspector for Idaho. Cindy loved what she did and was very passionate and was a phenomenal resource to jails across the state. Cindy had to retire due to her medical issues in June of 2023.

Gayle Ralph Anderson - May 10, 1929 - May 01, 2024

Departed: 05/01/2024 (Chubbuck)
Obituary Preview: Gayle Ralph Anderson, 94, of Pocatello, Idaho, surrounded by family, peacefully returned to his loving Heavenly Father on Wednesday, May 1, 2024.
His gentle passing was answer to prayer. Although not unexpected, his passing was a shock. Grateful for the special reunion with his sweetheart, who he missed terribly, parents, siblings and friends.
Gayle was the second to the youngest child, born to Harry Emanuel Anderson and Ethel Georgeanna Davis on May 10, 1929.
He attended schools in Pocatello, graduating from Pocatello High School.
He married his high school sweetheart, eternal love and companion Dorothy Bringhurst Anderson on September 3, 1948 in the Salt Lake City Temple, where they were sealed for time and all eternity. Gayle and Dorothy celebrated their 72nd Wedding Anniversary on September 3, 2020, shortly before Dorothy’s passing on September 11, 2020.
Gayle and Dorothy raised six children, with twelve grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Gayle loved his family and delighted in their visits, often slipping a few “secret” dollars into their hands. Gayle will fondly be remembered and lived his life by the saying
“One Day at a Time”.
Staying busy with church activities, being active with service work, community organizations, and hosting social events with his family and friends was at the heart of Gayle.
Gayle and Dorothy served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to the Southwest Indian Mission in New Mexico before starting their family. Gayle served for many years as the Fort Hall Branch President, with Dorothy and his young family by his side.
Later in life they completed a second extended mission for many years with the Fort Hall Branch. Gayle had a lifelong passion to serve the Native American people where he developed special relationships and bonds.
Gayle and Dorothy enjoyed membership in the Chubbuck Lion’s club.  The annual Special Needs dinner, sponsored by the Chubbuck Lion’s Club was a great joy and event for Gayle. He ensured the vast number of turkeys for the dinner and give away were collected. Special thanks to Gayle and Dorothy’s friend Barrie Hunt for his service to support our father with this collection. Over the years, others were led by Gayle and Dorothy, in securing and collecting the food and give away items for this dinner event.  He and fellow member, Denny Jones traveled to Haiti to distribute eye glasses to those in need.  His friendship with the Lion’s club members, especially Denny Jones were cherished by Gayle. Our father’s fishing trips with Denny and Shirley Jones to Alaska were a highlight of his travels.
Raised in Pocatello, “up Pocatello Creek”, with his brothers and sisters, attending Anderson family Christmas parties, fishing trips, Downata swimming and reunions were memorable highlights for Gayle and his family.
One of Gayle’s greatest passions was continuing the tradition of the Harry Anderson/Ethel Davis Reunion. This annual event was held in Gayle and Dorothy’s famous back yard, under the pavilion, with “kids” of all ages playing, sharing life stories, welcoming Santa Claus for “Christmas in July” and most importantly lots of food.
Gayle enjoyed friendships, associations, and events during his life. He served in many positions, including two missions with the Church of Jesus of Christ of Latter Day Saints, also a military veteran having served eight years in the US Navy, living and raising a family in the Pocatello/Tyhee area.
Gayle’s vocations to support his family and many others, included work with Union Pacific Railroad, serving on the Chubbuck City Planning and Zoning committee, firewood, farming, landscaping, landlord, and gas station businesses in Utah and Idaho.
Gayle’s Firewood may have been one of his businesses, but countless residents, family and friends were recipients of Gayle’s generosity in heating their homes.
Gayle is survived by his six children; Crystal (Gerald (Jerry) Carson), Ross (Traci), Russell, Galen (Mary), Candi (David Eliasen), and Sheldon (Carrie); grandchildren Logan and Nicholas Carson, Skyler and Ashley Anderson, Cassandra Anderson Merrell and Katelyn Anderson, Jamila and Tariq Abou-Bakr, Bailey Anderson Thatcher and Payton Anderson, Ryan and Morgan Collins; great-grandchildren Braylon, James, and Harper Carson, Parker, Kendall, and Brynn Carson, Jimmy, Zoe, Jack, and Quintin Anderson and Odin Anderson.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, brothers Gerald, Elwin, Royal, Dwaine, Melton, OD Ray, Don, sisters Opal and Ardella, his parents Harry Emanuel Anderson and Ethel Georgeanna Davis, and son-in-law Hassan Abou-Bakr.
Gayle is the last of Harry and Ethel’s children to pass, ending a family legacy.

Melinda Ann Marinelli - May 16, 1960 - April 28, 2024

Departed: 04/28/2024 (Chubbuck)
Obituary Preview: Melinda Ann Marinelli, born May 16, 1960, in Seattle Washington, died on April 28, 2024 in Pocatello Idaho. Melinda was only 63 years old but left a lasting impression on the place she called home for many years.
Melinda was an Escrow officer at Alliance Title & Escrow Corporation for over 30 years. Prior to that she was a server at a popular (now closed restaurant). Melinda’s gift of being personable and friendly was equal only to her work ethic, attention to detail, and desire to help other people. Whether they were waiting for their food or buying a home, everyone received gold star treatment from Melinda. If you were to go anywhere with Melinda, you had to plan extra time because people were always excited to see her and wanted to stop and visit for “just a few minutes.” As the disease of Alzheimer’s progressed, Melinda might not have remembered people’s names but she still greeted them with enthusiasm and warmth.
Melinda’s many colleagues, neighbors and friends, were considered family to her. They all reciprocated that feeling and she was known as Aunt Milly to many. They will all miss her and her admonition to “don’t ever break the spaghetti!”. She is also survived by her mother, Paulena Bury (Kennewick WA) and siblings Becky Fahey (Portland OR) , Theresa Rossman (Bend OR) and Mark Marinelli (San Antonio TX) She was also well loved by aunts and uncles, cousins and nieces and nephews through out the US.
A memorial service will be from 4-6 pm on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at Wilks Funeral Home, 211 W Chubbuck Road, Chubbuck Idaho.
Prior to her passing, Melinda requested that donations to the Alzheimers Association be made in lieu of flowers.

What is an obituary?

An obituary is a written notice that announces the death of a person, typically including their name, age, date of birth and death, and a brief biography. It serves as a way to share the news of a loved one's passing with family, friends, and the community.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries are important because they provide a way to honor and celebrate the life of the deceased, while also informing others of their passing. They can also serve as a keepsake for family and friends, and can be used to create a lasting legacy for the deceased.

Who typically writes an obituary?

In most cases, the obituary is written by the family of the deceased, often with the assistance of a funeral home or mortuary. In some cases, a friend or colleague may also write an obituary.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A typical obituary includes the deceased's name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, education, hobbies, and surviving family members. It may also include information about their accomplishments, awards, or notable achievements.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary, but it's generally recommended to keep it concise and to the point. Aim for 1-2 paragraphs at most. You want to provide enough information to give readers a sense of who the person was, without overwhelming them with too much detail.

Can I include photos in an obituary?

Yes, many newspapers and online obituary platforms allow you to include one or more photos with the obituary. This can help bring the person to life and make the tribute more personal.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper?

The process for submitting an obituary to a newspaper varies depending on the publication. Some newspapers have online submission forms, while others require you to contact them directly via phone or email. Be sure to check the newspaper's website or contact them ahead of time to determine their specific requirements.

Can I write my own obituary?

Yes, some people choose to write their own obituary in advance. This can be a therapeutic exercise that allows you to reflect on your life and legacy. However, it's not necessary to do so – your loved ones can write one for you after you pass away.

What is the difference between an obituary and a death notice?

A death notice is a brief announcement that simply states the person's name, age, and date of death. An obituary, on the other hand, provides more detailed information about the person's life and legacy.

Can I include humor in an obituary?

Absolutely! While an obituary should be respectful, it's okay to inject some humor or personality into the writing. This can help capture the essence of the person and make the tribute more relatable and engaging.

How do I handle sensitive information in an obituary?

If there are sensitive issues or conflicts surrounding the deceased's life or death, it's best to approach these topics with tact and discretion. You may want to consult with family members or close friends before deciding what information to include.

Can I include charitable donations in lieu of flowers?

Yes, many families choose to include a request for charitable donations in lieu of flowers in the obituary. This can be a meaningful way to honor the deceased's memory and support a cause they cared about.

How long does it take for an obituary to be published?

The timeframe for publishing an obituary varies depending on the newspaper or online platform. Some publications may publish obituaries within 24 hours, while others may take several days or even weeks.

Can I edit an obituary after it's been published?

In most cases, it's not possible to make changes to an obituary once it's been published. However, if there are errors or inaccuracies in the original version, you may be able to request corrections from the publication or online platform.

You can search for old obituaries through online archives such as Newspapers.com or GenealogyBank.com. You can also contact local libraries or historical societies for assistance.

Can I write an obituary for someone who has been deceased for a long time?

Can I include stories or anecdotes in an obituary?

Yes! Including stories or anecdotes about the deceased can help bring them to life and make the tribute more engaging and relatable.
