Angeline Monzaney - July 05, 1923 - January 27, 2021

Departed: 01/27/2021 (Steelton)
Obituary Preview: Angeline E. DeFilippo Monzaney, 97, of Mechanicsburg, passed peacefully on Wednesday, January 27 at her home.
The daughter of the late Giustina (Librandi) and Onofrio DeFilippo, she was the widow of John E. Monzaney.
She grew up in Steelton and attended St. Ann’s School and Steelton High School. A devout Catholic, she was a member of St. Katharine Drexel Parish in Mechanicsburg, and prior to that St. Francis of Assisi and Sacred Heart Parishes in Harrisburg. She was a clerk for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation prior to retirement and a past member of the Steelton Italian Club Auxiliary and the West Shore Sons of Italy Lodge.
Angie was devoted to her family and had many treasured friends. She was full of gratitude for her faith, for her happy childhood and adolescence in Steelton, and the life that she and John had built together, first in Shipoke and on Berryhill Street in Harrisburg, later in Mechanicsburg. She loved spending time with her “work friends” and often told stories about the good times they had. She had great perspective about what really matters in life and never had a problem either expressing affection or telling anyone to exercise good judgment and common sense when she felt they were lacking. She paid attention to what was happening in the world and would happily share her opinions with anyone who would listen. “I loved Angie!” was repeated over and over again when the news of her passing was shared.
Angie is survived by many nieces and nephews, grandnieces and nephews, and cousins, and by her sisters-in-law Christine, Ezzie, and Harriet DeFilippo. She was predeceased by sisters Rhoda Acri and Evelyn DeVito and brothers Frank, Eligio, Adolph, Mariano, Alfred, and Michael DeFilippo.
The family wishes to thank Angie’s helpers, Connie and Marina, and all of Angie’s neighbors, family, and friends, for their kindnesses to her over the years, as well as those at her church who kept in touch when Angie could no longer attend Mass.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, February 4, 2021 at 11:00 am in St. Katharine Drexel Church, 1 Peter Drive, Mechanicsburg, with Rev. Kenneth G. Smith, Pastor, Celebrant, with burial in Holy Cross Cemetery. A viewing will be held on Thursday from 10:00 am until 11:00 am in her church. Commonwealth of Pennsylvania regulations will be enforced; social distancing and masks are required. However, if you are at risk, or could put others at risk, the family respectfully asks that you remember Angie in your prayers in lieu of attending and assures you that she would understand. A summer celebration of Angie’s life will be announced at a later date. Arrangements by Wiedeman Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Oberlin.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Katharine Drexel Parish, 1 Peter Drive, Mechanicsburg PA, 17050, or to a favorite charity.

Rose LaVia - May 15, 1935 - January 09, 2021

Departed: 01/09/2021 (Steelton)
Obituary Preview: https://boxcast.tv/view/funeral-mass-for-rose-lavia-january-15-2021-hrf0hsdeoptjoetvv8oa
On January 9, 2021, Rose Marie (Conway) LaVia, 85, departed from this world, the same way she lived her life: surrounded by family. Her three year battle with ALS ended with courage and faith in the promises of Christ.
She leaves behind the legacy of family that she built with the love of her life, Clement LaVia, over 64 years of marriage. She will be dearly missed by her devoted six daughters, AKA "the LaVia girls"; Mary Zimmerman and her late husband, William, Darlene McHugh and husband Patrick, Christine Schindel and husband Samuel, Lorraine LaVia and husband Bruce Mulock, Diane LaVia-Ricci and husband John and Michelle Caicedo and husband Christian; a sister Sheila Laughlin; brother, Richard Conway; sister-in-law, Mary Brown; 14 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Eliza Jane and Clarence Hayes Conway and her first great-grandchild, Robby Hollister.
Rose was born in Curwensville, PA and lived most of her life in Harrisburg, attending Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Grade School and graduated from Harrisburg Catholic High School. She remained active in coordinating class reunions and maintaining friendships that span her lifetime.
She began her working career at the law firm of Rhoads, Sinon and Reeder. After marrying and having her children, she worked from home as a court transcriber before beginning a dedicated career with the Olivetti Corporation. She also worked as a realtor for Brownstone Realty, followed by a position with the Pennsylvania Senate - Official Reporters Office, from where she retired.
Never to find raising six daughters too much, she endlessly sought out ways to include more people in her life; hosting yearly holiday celebrations for family and friends; bringing communion to the sick of her parish of St. Catherine Laboure; volunteering at the county nursing home for Sunday Masses; delivering meals on wheels; joining the Red Hat Society; and coordinating monthly luncheons with school friends.
She was a talented quilter who gifted her loved ones with the most beautiful labors of love that will be treasured forever. But she also quietly made and donated many quilts to those in need. She was happiest when she was spending time with her family, baking with her grandchildren, reading, playing the piano (or teaching her children and grandchildren to play), working at a crossword or Sudoku puzzle, playing Mahjong, and in her last few months when speech was no longer possible, her head was bent for endless hours, as she played WORDS with friends online.
Her family would like to thank the loving caregivers who made is possible for them to keep their mother at home and help care for her during the last three years.
