Frank Mackowski - June 08, 1968 - February 14, 2024

Departed: 02/14/2024 (Rochester)
Obituary Preview: With family by his side, Frank passed away peacefully, but unexpectedly on February 14, 2024 due to an acute bacterial infection at the young age of 55.
Frank was a graduate of Fairport High School, Class of 1986 and received a Bachelor of Science from Le Moyne College in Syracuse in 1990.
Fond childhood memories were created on annual family vacations in the station wagon down to Myrtle Beach, SC. Somehow Frank tolerated the car ride with his two pestering little sisters knowing that dear family friends, the Coopers would join them at the beach. Playing miniature golf, driving go-carts and riding the ocean waves were where Frank was always caught with a smile on his face. Summer adventures to the Adirondack Mountains included fishing, hiking and watching the black bears scrummage through trash cans at the town dump brought laughs and will never be forgotten.
Late in his teenage years, Frank was diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis, an inflammatory disease, however this did not stop him from living life. Instead, it challenged him and created a passion in Frank to manage the debilitating disease naturally through diet, exercise and most recently the spirituality of Buddhism. His own experiences and education about the body and exercise led Frank to obtain his certification as a Personal Trainer to help others.
Frank loved playing golf and watching golf tournaments with his father. As a teenager he caddied at Oak Hill Country Club and played just about every course in the Rochester and Syracuse area. Frank was also a big-time basketball fan of both college and the NBA. Whether it was the Syracuse Orangemen or Larry Bird, Frank’s cheering could be heard. When he wasn’t hollering at players on TV, in his younger years Frank was jamming to the Bee Gees, Rush, Foreigner and the Styx. His love of music and concerts ranged from The Beatles, to Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, Norah Jones and more.
After college, Frank moved back to the Rochester area and worked in sales at a printing company, as well as helped out at the family gourmet food business. Frank continued his friendships with his college buddies and when he could, would travel to different states to attend their annual Super Bowl gatherings--an event he always looked forward to and forever cherished.
With an affection for the outdoors and adventures, Frank drove across the country four times exploring much of the west and east coasts, and spent several years living in Arizona. Eventually, Frank made his way back home to Rochester and enjoyed watching the peacefulness of the birds, deer and other wildlife in his own backyard. He also developed a passion in the keeping our planet and nature protected, as well as helping people in need.
Although Frank leaves behind, his loving mother Mary, his two younger sisters, Ann and Debra, his fun-loving brothers-in-law Kraigh and Jimmy, and his beautiful niece, Sienna, he has reached Nirvana and is reunited eternally with his father, grandparents, aunts, uncles and other loved ones.
Become Enlightened. Reach Nirvana. Begin at the End. DONATIONS:

Jan P. Egger - October 16, 1944 - February 01, 2024

Departed: 02/01/2024 (Rochester)
Obituary Preview: Jan P. Egger Rochester, NY
February 1, 2024, at age 79 from Parkinson’s Disease.
Predeceased by his parents, Gerald and Florence Egger, and brother, Gerald Egger. Survived by his wife, Jo Anne Leegant, sister, Michelle Egger Krell (Michael), sisters-in-law Laurie Leegant Cantore (Anthony) and Sheryl Knapp Egger, nephews, Michael and Jeffrey Egger, Daniel, Sam and Thomas Krell (Jenny), Mathew Cantore (Amanda), and niece, Jill Cantore Morris (Justin), 5 great nieces, 3 great nephews, dogs, Febrero and Izzy, as well as cousins and caring friends.
Jan was born in Hornell, NY. His family moved numerous times during his early childhood, as a result of which he attended multiple elementary schools, sometimes within a single school year. He taught himself to read before he started kindergarten, so he had no difficulty keeping up with his schoolwork. After his father died in 1954, his mother returned to Hornell with her three children, aged 11, 9 and 3. As a single mother with no job skills, she had a difficult time supporting her family. According to Jan, when they first returned to Hornell, they relied upon public assistance. His mother took a job as a meat wrapper for Loblaws Supermarket. Jan said that she hid steaks in her girdle in order to feed her family. Eventually, she obtained more lucrative employment and their finances improved, but they lived from paycheck to paycheck.
Jan attended St. Ann’s School, where he recalled that he spent a significant amount of time in the corner for making wisecracks to the nuns. He related that the school would broadcast over the school’s loudspeaker that the following students should report to the office to pick up the family’s monthly allotment of surplus food. He didn’t say whether they identified him or his older brother for that dubious honor. Despite having to endure such embarrassment at school, Jan was valedictorian when he graduated from St. Ann’s.
He graduated from Hornell High School in 1962 and received his BA from SUNY at Geneseo in 1966. Because he was the only one in his class who did not train to become a teacher, he was promptly drafted into the US Army. He enjoyed relating the story about the letter he received which began with greetings from President Lyndon Baines Johnson, went on to say that he was about to be drafted, and concluded with an advisory the gist of which was: this is an important document. If you do not receive it, notify..... Every time he retold the story, Jan expressed regret that he had not thought to save that letter.
Following his discharge, he entered graduate school at the University of Chicago, where he planned to obtain a PhD in microbiology. He changed his plans when he realized that employment in that field would be difficult to obtain. He applied to and was accepted at the University of Minnesota law school. In the interim, he worked as a police officer for the city of Chicago.
After receiving his JD, he accepted a job as an Assistant County Attorney for Erie County in Buffalo. Because one of his co-workers was out sick, Jan argued a case before the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court the day after he was admitted to practice. For most of his career at the County Attorney’s office, he prosecuted juvenile delinquents in Family Court. It was there that he learned to try cases off the cuff. He would be given a file, have a few minutes to review it, and proceed to trial.
He met his future wife, Jo Anne Leegant, at a picnic during the summer of 1976. She was a probation officer at the time. They were married on their lunch hour in January, 1977. It was payday and they needed their paychecks in order to pay for their weekend honeymoon in Toronto. Starting in 1981, he supported her while she attended law school. During her senior year, his boss fired him in order to hire one of his wife’s female classmates. After several months of submitting resumes and receiving no responses, he was offered a job in Rochester. They rented an apartment, and he spent his weekends commuting between Buffalo and Rochester while she studied for the bar exam. Jan’s boss offered Jo Anne a job, as he knew that she would work for a pittance since unemployed law school graduates who were awaiting the results of the bar exam would take any job. Their two paychecks enabled them to purchase a house, although it would be months before they were able to sell their double house in Buffalo. She was afraid that they would be unable to pay both mortgages, but having survived far worse financial challenges, Jan knew that they would succeed.
Jan held a series of jobs in Rochester. He perfected his skill as a trial lawyer. He retained the ability to try a case with minimal preparation. He was able to try cases after reviewing the file, without making notes. His cross examinations were devastating to the opposition. While most of us think of what they should have said after the fact, he was able to come up with the right words at the right time. He put on a great show when he tried a case. Younger lawyers would come to the courtroom to watch him in action.
Eventually, Jan and Jo Anne became law partners. Although they practiced in multiple areas, the majority of the work was negligence defense. Jan tried numerous cases and was extremely successful. They retired and closed the office in 2014.
Prior to and after retirement, they enjoyed traveling. In addition to Italy, Greece, Spain, France, Poland, Austria, the Czech Republic, and Ireland, they visited China, Singapore, and Southeast Asia. He had his pocket picked in Prague. Because Jan loved good food and was an excellent cook, the highlight of every trip was the cuisine. He had no interest in visiting any country unless he could enjoy the food. They made several trips to New Orleans so that they could enjoy the food as well as the presentation.
Jan volunteered as a judge for mock trials at the high school and college level. One year, his team made the finals in Albany. He was an avid Bridge player and became a Life Master.
Jan was an animal lover. When he married Jo Anne, he had 2 cats and she had 3 cats and a dog. It wasn’t long before they had 3 dogs in addition to the 5 cats. If there really is a Rainbow Bridge, Jan was escorted to Heaven by an army of dogs and cats, barking, meowing and purring with joy.
Jan started out with nothing and achieved professional and financial success as a result of his hard work and determination. His mother was so proud of him that she addressed all of the letters she wrote to him as “Attorney Jan Egger”. Jan donated his brain to the Harvard Medical School in the hope that someday there will be a way to prevent or cure Parkinson’s Disease.
A celebration of Jan’s life will be held in October, as he would have celebrated his 80th birthday on 10/16.

William C. Stockdale - December 03, 1933 - January 17, 2024

Departed: 01/17/2024 (Rochester)
Obituary Preview: Rochester, NY:  Passed away during the early hours of Wednesday, January 17, 2024. He was the beloved husband of 68 years of Marta A. Stockdale; father of Gwen A. Fellows (Gary), Greg W. Stockdale (Theresa), Alan Stockdale (Linda), and Renee Stockdale-Homick (Michael); son of William and Irene Stockdale; brother of Pat Easterbrook; grandfather to Galen and Briana Fellows, Noah and Hannah Homick, Laura, Brendan, and Sarah Stockdale, and Evan and Jenna Sicuranza; great grandfather to Molly, Graham, and Edison. He was predeceased by his loving parents, William and Irene Stockdale.
William was born in Pittsburgh, PA, on December 3, 1933. He had an active childhood and often played baseball in the alley behind his house with neighborhood friends. They often had to chase the ball down a big hill to keep it from rolling out into traffic. His love of golf began in his early teens when he caddied at local courses and was able to learn and play the game as a result. In high school, he played golf and basketball and even ran cross country for a year. After graduating from Brentwood High School, he attended college at the University of Pittsburgh. At Pitt, he studied psychology, was an ace golfer on the varsity golf team, and was enrolled in the Air Force ROTC program. He earned his bachelor’s degree in 1955 and went on to serve in the Air Force as a Second Lieutenant.
William met the love of his life, Marta, while he was in college. They married on August 20, 1955. They spent their early years in Texas, where Bill did his tour of duty in the Air Force. After spending time in Texas and Virginia, Bill and Marta settled in the Rochester, NY, area and made their permanent home there. The couple built a beautiful life together, raising their family initially in the town of Irondequoit, but ultimately locating to Pittsford where they lived for many years. Bill pursued his career in advertising, initially forming a partnership in a firm, and then striking out on his own to form his own company, Stockdale Communications. Outside of his work, Bill was an avid sportsman, taking pleasure not only in playing golf but also tennis, paddle tennis, and racquetball. Golf was his true love, though, and he excelled at it to the extent that he was a scratch golfer and member at Oak Hill Country Club, where he and Marta were members for 65 years. His golf capstone was when he qualified for and played as an amateur in the 1984 U.S. Senior Open. Later, he blended his love of golf and literature by producing a play based on the golf stories of PG Wodehouse at the Downstairs Cabaret in December 1999.
Bill was also a beloved father to his four children, supporting them in their various endeavors including arts and crafts, sports, and music. He played golf and tennis with them and never let them off easy. In his 50s, he even played racquetball with college students at St. John Fisher. All of this energy he also used with his grandchildren, taking them swimming, playing tennis, and other activities.
A true maestro in every facet of life, he was not only an incredible father and husband but also a successful entrepreneur with an unmatched wit, infectious laugh, and the creativity of a brilliant writer. His golf swing mirrored his humor - impeccable. Acing both golf and family life, he leaves behind a legacy woven with threads of love, laughter, and the captivating stories he penned on both paper and stage.

Tom was a force of nature, determined to provide for his family and give them the life he felt they deserved. He was endlessly proud of Spencer, Avery, and his wife, Valerie, and always went above and beyond to support and provide for them.
When Tom moved his newfound family to East Irondequoit, he took on a job as the Audio/Visual and Distance Learning Supervisor for the East Irondequoit Central School District. Alice Marie Smith - October 22, 1951 - October 12, 2023

Departed: 10/12/2023 (Rochester)
Obituary Preview: Rochester, NY:  Passed away on Thursday, October 12, 2023 at age 71. She was born in Williamsport, PA, but she called Texas home, even after reluctantly moving back north to be near family in 2022.
She is survived by her sometimes functional, often amusing and always loving family. Husband Herby, sons Jake (Nicole) and Jesse; grandchildren Samantha, Danny (Brittany), Grace, James & Corinne; great grandchildren Xavier, Danny, Zoey and Vivian, nieces and nephews and a small army of Niagara Falls-in-laws. She is predeceased by her father William Weasner, her mother Mary Weasner (Robinson) and her brother Patrick Weasner.
She was a determined, resilient woman that loved her Astros baseball, all kinds of music and a good, dry red wine. She loved, rescued and protected animals her whole life, especially the feline variety. To say she saved 500 cats in her 71 years would be a conservative estimate, each with a wonderfully bizarre name. The feral cat colony behind her Texas home surely ate better than she and Herby did many days.
She was steadfast and loyal, selfless to a fault and never backed down from a good fight. She made a heck of a lasagna and an even better potato salad. “Thanksgiving by Alice” was her son's and many of their friend's favorite meal of the year…the only thing burnt was the orange on the Longhorns jerseys when they played the Aggies on Turkey Day.
Alice often said “Well, you can either laugh or you can cry, it’s up to you.” As we remember Alice and celebrate her life, we will surely do both. Rest in peace. We love you.
There will be a private celebration of life for close family and friends.

Bruce Rodney Kost - November 20, 1936 - July 08, 2022

Departed: 07/08/2022 (Rochester)
Obituary Preview: Bruce was a man who loved life and cherished his family. Predeceased by his mother, Sadye; father, William; infant son, Richard; and 2 loving dogs. Survived by his loving wife of 33 years, LouAnn; brother, Melvyn (Ann); brother-in-law, Buz Sawyer (Laura); sons, Jeffrey (Michael Comparone) and Mark (Lenore); daughter, Lara Hwang (Rich); stepsons, Whit Washing and Jason Washing; 6 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; cousins; nieces; nephew; and his dog, Charlie.
Bruce was born in Queens, New York and the family moved to Rochester when he was a child. He graduated from Benjamin Franklin High School in 1954 and Albany College of Pharmacy in 1958 and moved back to Rochester in 1958.
He and his brother, Mel, bought Parkleigh Pharmacy on Park Avenue in Rochester, New York in 1960. Parkleigh became a mainstay in the Park Avenue neighborhood and one of his greatest legacies, where it lives on today.
Bruce cherished his friends, and there were many. Some of whom had remained friends since childhood as well as the many, many friends he made along the way. He had that special quality of caring about people he may have met for the first time, treating them as if they were long lost friends.
As much as he gave love, his love was reciprocated many times over by so many for the person he was. People who knew him described him as “a great human being”, “always with a kind word and a smile”, “one of the best”, “loving, generous and gentle”, "a tremendously kind and caring soul”, “gracious and supportive”, with “energy and spirit that filled a room”.
He had a bright, wonderful smile and an infectious laugh that he shared freely and often.
Bruce always appreciated the finer things in life and enjoyed sharing and educating others about them: cars (of which there were many!), photography, travel, chocolate (never met a truffle he didn’t like!), fine food, good wine, a special scotch, the newest gadget, and PBS. He was an avid sports fan who watched everything with great enthusiasm.
He was both obsessed and frustrated by politics, especially later in life. He knew the difference between right and wrong, recognized the injustices and inequities that became pervasive in the world, and shared his views with anyone who would listen. Every night, he would go to sleep watching Christiane Amanpour.
Bruce lived life to its fullest. He is at peace now. Gone from our sights but never from our memories. He would want people to remember the good times, laughter, and fun. To comfort each other and to smile.
