Dolores Guerrero - October 20, 1940 - April 20, 2024

Departed: 04/20/2024 (W. St. Paul)
Obituary Preview: Age 83, from West St Paul, MN. Went home to be with Jesus after a long and brave battle with vascular dementia. She passed away peacefully at home in the early morning hours of April 20, 2024 with her loving husband and youngest daughter by her side. Beloved and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Preceded in death by her oldest son Raul Guerrero Sr. Survived by her devoted and loving husband Leonardo; daughters Lorena Krop (Ross), Selina Hostettler (Randy) and Melisa Heroff (Jeff).
Dolores was born and raised in the outskirts of San Antonio, TX and was the rather quiet middle child amongst her brothers and sister.
Growing up, she and her family traveled back and forth every summer from TX to MN for work and to spend time with many family and friends. In 1958, her senior year of high school, she decided to stay in MN to attend Humboldt High School where she graduated in 1959. She loved life in MN and eventually got a job working as a long distance operator for Northwestern Bell Co. Her job was to assist customers with international phone calls. She was kind and talented, and had such a beautiful voice. She succeeded there as she was bilingual and spoke English and Spanish perfectly. On New Year’s Eve 1961, at a dance hall in St. Paul, she met her future husband Leonardo. He was the one who would love her and cherish her in sickness and in health for all of her days. They married 11 months later on November 22, 1962 and were able to share 61 years, 4 months, 4 weeks, and only several hours together before she passed away. When she was diagnosed with vascular dementia in 2017, he would become her caregiver. Navigating this horrible disease, he continued to lovingly reassure her and be there for her. He took such good care of her through all of the most excruciatingly painful phases of a sickness one could imagine. He did it with unwavering strength, courage, determination, and love, and with the help of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ was able to keep her at home and take care of her with love and respect every single day, just as he had always promised her he would. Dolores was a wonderful example of what a loving and supportive wife and mother truly is. She taught us to be humble and kind and grateful for everything we have. She worked hard to make her family home a good one. She loved to laugh, play games, cook, bowl, dance, and tend her garden. She went on many fun family bike rides while raising her kids, and supported her children and grandchildren in all of their sports, music, and activities. She took good care of her grandchildren on a regular daily basis while her own children were working or out of town. The kids always had fun at grandma’s house which included many sleepovers and playing outside which she loved. She enjoyed working in her garden, & going on long walks and long car rides with her husband which usually culminated with an ice cream cone from McDonald’s before heading for home. They loved being together, talking, laughing and having fun - the best of friends.
Dolores’ strong faith in God, kind spirit, patience, and endless love for her family knew no bounds. She was smart and funny, a lovely woman who was kind to everyone she met. The first thing people say is how nice she is! She always tried to help everyone as much as she could, and make things better for all of us. This was and always will be her legacy. She has taught us so much and we will be forever thankful. We will always love her, and she will truly be missed as our hearts will be forever broken.
