Obituary Preview: Pamela Hardison Sawyer, 64, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday May 22, 2024. She was born on August 4, 1959 and raised in Cary, NC. She lived at different times in Plymouth, Swan Quarter and finally in Washington.

Pam was a creative, intelligent, thoughtful soul who truly put her family before herself. She was crafty. She channeled her inner artist by making jewelry, sewing, writing and candle making. During the years of her adult life she earned an Associates degree at Martin Community College in Small Business. Pam enjoyed her career as Assistant Register of Deeds in Hyde County for many years, before retiring to Washington to raise two of her grandchildren.

Pamela is preceded in death by her parents Wesley Jewel Hardison and Nancy Abbott Hardison, grandparents O'Dell and Wesley Hardison and Joseph and Veda Abbott.

She is survived by daughters Darla Mae Sawyer of Greenville and Cherish Jewel Parker of Washington and son Joseph Randall Hardison. She leaves behind three grandchildren, Seth Parker and Cheyenne Parker of the home and Ronin Heath of Greenville. Other survivors include sister Page Feudale and brother Wesley Hardison (Therese) both of Mebane, NC. Guy Sawyer of Scranton, good friend and father of Pam’s daughters, survives as well.

Services to celebrate Pamela’s life will be held at Joseph B. Paul Jr. Funeral Service on Thursday May 30, 2024. The visitation will begin at 1:00 pm, followed by the Celebration of Life at 2:00 pm.

He was a homebody who cherished the simple pleasures of life, such as watching NASCAR, listening to country music, and enjoying a good meal of steak and oysters. Larry was rarely seen without his signature hat, a testament to his unique personality.

He is preceded in death by his father, John B. Asby, Sr.; mother, Annie E. Asby; wife, Joyce Ann Asby; siblings, Edith May Sullivan, Betty Jean Foster, and Necy K. Foster; and grandchild, Austin Asby. Larry is survived by his sons, Larry Ray Asby, Jr., John Lynn Asby, Sr., and Michael Jean Asby; daughters, Ranee Ann Fitchett and June Danielle Foster; siblings, John B. He graduated from Swan Quarter High School as Valedictorian in 1950. Bill then graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1954 with a BS in Business Administration. He was a member of Alpha Tau Omega while at Chapel Hill. He passed May 18, 2024 at ECU Health Medical Center, Greenville, NC. Bill is survived by his wife Betty of the home, sons William I. Cochran III (Cindy) of Washington and Richard A. Cochran of Raleigh. He is also survived by grandchildren Emily Cochran Martin (Brady) of Asheville, North Carolina, Kyle Cochran (fiance Sara McKinney) of Sanford, North Carolina, John Paul Cochran of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Grace Cochran of Richmond, Virginia, and great-grandson Cooper Cochran of Sanford, North Carolina. He is also survived by his step-daughters, Stephanie Holder of Wilmington, North Carolina and Suzanne Hughes of Old Fort, North Carolina, as well as step-grandchildren, Morgan Holder, Braxton Mira-Knippel, Savannah Mira-Knippel, and Abigail Holder. He was pre-deceased by his parents and by a grandson, Patrick Cochran. A member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Bill served on Vestry and was a Lay Reader for 37 years. He served as Chairman of Finance and Building committee for building All Saints Hall and renovating Gardner Hall. He was chairman of Christmas in Afghanistan (gifts for Marines serving in Afghanistan) and chairman of Stained Glass Windows Restoration. From 1954 to 1958, he served in the US Army at 8th Army Headquarters, Chief of Staff Section, Camp Zama, Japan. He is the retired Executive director of Washington/Mid-East Housing Authority. He was also Executive Director of Urban Renewal, which did urban renewal and waterfront development in Washington. The Washington Waterfront is one of his proudest achievements. For many years he was a member of Washington Yacht and Country Club, where he enjoyed playing golf with friends. He was previously a member of East Carolina Association of Housing Redevelopment Officials (president), Washington Jaycees (president and Distinguished Service Award), Beaufort County Cancer Society (president), and rotary Club, Beaufort County Mental Health Association (president). A memorial service to honor Bill will be held at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 2:00pm, Tuesday May 21, 2024, located at 101 N Bonner St, Washington, NC 27889. She was born to the late Carrie Grice on December 3, 1955. Kay attended the Beaufort County Public School, in Washington, North Carolina. Kay was a loving woman who put others before herself. Kay always displayed a heart of love, and a passion for helping others. As a pillar in the community, she worked at the Beaufort County courthouse, and as a home help assistant

Kay was a woman who lived her life with joy and excitement. She expressed herself through bright hair colors and her diva-ish style. She loved spending time with her family and friends. She found joy in raising her one son Edward J. Grice Sr. and two step-kids Rolando and Jaylon. She was also overjoyed with her grandchildren.

On Saturday May 11, 2024, in the afternoon. God allowed a designated death angel to bring Kay into His loving arms. Her earthly life was finished, and her purpose was fulfilled on earth.

Kay is preceded in death by not only her parents. but also her loving husband. Bobby Thigpen; a sister: Stella Mac Grice; a brother: Ronnie Grice.

Kay leaves to cherish her memories to her two sons: Edward J. Grice Sr.(Gwendolyn Grice) and Jaylon Thigpen, a daughter: Rolando Thigpen; four grand-kids, and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

A visitation will held at Joseph B. Paul Jr. Funeral Service on Friday, May 24, 2024 at 12:00pm, followed immediately by a chapel service at 1:00pm. The committal will follow at Oakdale Cemetery in Washington, NC.

Born in Chocowinity NC, her family moved later to Washington NC where Deaconess Jones attended the Washington City school system. After graduating she moved to New York City for several years before returning to Washington. She chose to live in Washington to raise her two daughters, and to work as a family service worker. She became a beloved friend to many of the families she worked for. Deaconess Jones loved the Lord, her church: Redeeming Faith International Church of Christ, and her church family. She was very active in church and her community where she faithfully served in the Nursing Home Ministry, Home Visitation Ministry, Outreach Ministries and prayer Ministry. In addition to being a deaconess, she taught Sunday school. She supported many national and international ministries and missionaries. She shared the love of Jesus her Lord, everywhere she went. She leaves her legacy of love to her daughters Jennifer Jones Bonner (Robert) and Deborah Jones Cobb (Alonza). Also lovingly cherishing her memory and who lovingly called her ‘Merly Pearl' are her grandchildren Keturah, Aiyanna, Shamaiya, Alesha, and Great Grandchildren Azjah, Cameron, Simeon and Sydney; two sisters: Celia Jones Boyd and Ashanti Jones; brother Milton Jones (Leesa), goddaughter Glenda Tatum, and godsister Mildred Downing. His sense of humor was second to none, and his presence filled the room with laughter. He was the rock of his family, the best husband, father, and papa to his grandchildren. Jimmy is survived by the love of his life, Joyce Tetterton Whichard, his daughters Becky Whichard (Michael), Tammy Thomas (Courtlon), and Crystal Anderson (Tom), along with his grandchildren Mason Anderson, Dawn W. Alligood (Kevin), Casey Wilkins, and Skyler Woolard (Carrie); great-grandchildren Isabella Asby (Carson), Finn Wilkins, Ella Alligood, and Cooper Alligood. Born on April 8, 1953 in Bertie County, Jimmy lived a life full of laughter, kindness, and memorable moments. Jimmy's career as a Parts Manager, then Service Manager for the Chevrolet Dealership in Belhaven, Accounting Manager for Bell Farms, then owner/operator of Baggett's Clean-Up Service, a car detailing business, showcased his dedication to hard work and perseverance. Known for his reminiscing storytelling, and gift of gab, Jimmy had a unique ability to engage anyone in conversation. He believed he could solve the world's problems while sitting on his lawn mower mowing the grass if given enough time and turf. Jimmy married Judy Clark in June of 1973; he was his wife's best friend, buddy and pal, a true partner in all aspects of life. While they had no children of their own, they were blessed to have nephews, nieces, and neighborhood children around them. He exemplified compassion and generosity in his everyday actions, whether accompanying someone to the doctor or assisting with errands, he went above and beyond to help those around him. His sociable nature meant he never met a stranger, and simple errands turned into delightful encounters as he took the time to chat with everyone who crossed his path. Jimmy is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, his parents J.N. Baggett and Bertie Hardison Baggett, his sisters Bertie Ann (Jack) Yates, Thelma (Gary) Godley, Juanita (Rodney) Killingsworth, and Patrica Baggett, his brother Roy Baggett, as well as many nieces and nephews. He is proceeded in death by his brothers Al Baggett and Will Baggett, his sister-in-law Agnes & husband David Brinn. Jimmy was a member of Free Union Free Will Baptist Church, although due to health issues has not been active for the last few years. He did not forget his church family for they have seen him through many issues, nor have they forgotten him. In remembering Jimmy, we honor a man who brought joy to those he met, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and genuine connections that will be cherished forever. A celebration of Jimmy's life will be held on Thursday, May 2, 2024, at 3:00 pm at Joseph B. Paul Jr. Funeral Service. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert "Bob" Hall, Samuel "Bud" Hall and James Hall Jr, three sisters, Mildred Cheatham, Elva Anderson and Wanda Schmid, as well as a niece and two nephews. Survivors include two daughters , Vonda (Wesley) Wyatt of Princeton WV and Carrie (Bo) Anderson Bonnie of Belhaven NC, one sister, Shirley Holmes; 7 grandchildren, Sean Wyatt, Adrianne Wyatt, Ronnie Anderson, Lisa Jones, Scott Anderson, Cory Anderson and Jacob Anderson; 9 great grandchildren, one sister-in-law Hope Lemley and one brother-in-law, Mickey Schmid; several nieces and nephews. He is survived by his daughter, Jeanette K. Lowicz (Chuck); son, Jeffrey B. Johnson (Karen); grandchildren Bella, Sebastian, Chase, and Dylan; and sister, Sandi Johnson. Known for his warm and welcoming nature, Larry never met a stranger and was always willing to lend a helping hand. He was the neighbor who would assist everyone with snow blowing their driveways after a snowstorm. Obituary Preview: Jack Alton Nicholson, 63, passed away in his sleep on Tuesday, April 16, 2024. Jack was the owner and operator of Jack's Appliance Service for the past 37 years. He repaired appliances for hundreds of customers across eastern North Carolina spanning 6 counties. Jack was known for the big red Ford van he drove and the bright red work shirts he wore. Jack was born on April 22, 1960 to Milton Chester Nicholson and Janie Peaks Nicholson. He graduated from Williamston High School in 1978 and continued his education at Martin Community College where he earned a degree in Electrical Installation and Maintenance. Jack earned his electrical and refrigeration licenses. His first job was part-time at McKeel Appliance Service in 1976. He purchased the business in 1987, renamed it Jack's Appliance Service, and continued to perform appliance repair work until his passing. Jack was most proud of the 6 sons he and his wife raised and the 4 grandchildren they blessed them with, who were the lights of "Pop's" life. He always had a project he was helping one of his kids or friends to complete. He loved the time he spent with his boys and friends and watching a plan come together. Jack seemed to thrive on tackling and solving problems that no one else could master. He was truly a Jack of all trades. Jack loved to cook for and entertain his family and friends and was always looking for a new and improved recipe to try out. When asked what time the meal would be served, his standard answer was "When the meat is done". All his meals were worth the wait. Jack is survived by his wife of 42 years, Ellen Corey Nicholson; his 6 sons, James (Megan), Andy (Elisha Hardison), Ben (Brittany), Will (Farrell), David (Maria), and Noah (Maria); grandchildren, Kolby, Trenton, Wesley, and Riley Nicholson; his mother, Janie Peaks Nicholson; his sister, Jennie (Bobby) Brown; and his mother and father in-law, Geoffrey and Pearl Corey; sister-in-law, Janet W. Corey, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends. Jack was predeceased by his father, Milton Chester Nicholson, and his brother-in-law, Jeff Corey. Pallbearers will be his 6 sons, nephew Luke Corey, and his "adopted" 7th son, Brett Roberson. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, April 18th, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at Tice Community Cemetery in the Farm Life Community, with Pastor Larry Stephens officiating. She remained in Virginia until1972 when she returned to North Carolina with her family. Frances worked as an in home caregiver to the elderly for many years. She later received her CNA certification and worked with home health as long as her health allowed. In her spare time she enjoyed crocheting and watching old western movies. Frances was a unique individual who lived her life on her own terms. She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her sons Perry Bonney (Sarah) and Brian Bonney (Betsy) both of Belhaven,N.C. Four granddaughters Candace Bonney (Andrew Hartley) Jennifer Shore (Jacob) Erin Hassell (Phillip) and Rebekah Blackman (Zachary). Five great-grandchildren Teagan Hartley, Eden Hartley, Addison Hartley, Jared Blackman, and Goldie Hassell. There are no services planned at this time. Obituary Preview: Lillian Josephine Wallace of Goldsboro and Washington, North Carolina, passed away peacefully in her sleep, at home, Friday morning, April 12, 2024. At 64, she was one of God's angels sent to Earth to keep those around her humble, thankful, and God-fearing.

Born during the Christmas season on December 18, 1959, Lillian fought health challenges from the time she was born until the time she passed, and never complained. She was a lifelong member of Long Acre Chapel Christian Church of Plymouth, regularly attended First Free Will Baptist Church of Washington, and previously attended Providence Methodist Church in Goldsboro, North Carolina. She celebrated every aspect of life with honeybuns, hamburgers, and an endless supply of sweet tea, surrounded by her family and friends.

Lillian enjoyed socializing, having the Bible read to her, and listening to the classic television shows "The Andy Griffith Show" and "Golden Girls." She had a "feisty" side and would play fun pranks on others when she could. Even though Lillian developed blindness at an early age, her favorite game was "Bumble Bee, Bumble Bee, I See Something You Don't See." She would also dance in her wheelchair when she heard an upbeat gospel song. Her contagious zest for life made her both a blessing and a privilege to be around.

Lillian was preceded in death by her parents, Delmar and Mae Wallace, and three brothers: Delmar Wallace, Jr., Rolphe Wallace, Henry Wallace, and her brother-in-law, Ashley (Duck) Gainey. She is survived by three sisters: Melisia Wallace Gainey of Goldsboro, Sylvia Wallace of Washington, and Pattie Wallace Queen of Washington; her sisters-in-law, Wanda Wallace and Susie Wallace; her brother-in-law, "Brother," Earl Queen. She adored her nieces: Regina Jackson (Bryan Jackson), Shelley West (Maris West), and Tracy Arnold (Michael Arnold); her nephews: Frankie Wallace, Raiford Gainey, and Thomas Gainey (Lisa Gainey); great nieces: Alexis Cerny (Daniel Cerny), Grace West, and Alisa Gainey; her great nephews: Koty Dean (Sydney Dean), Jordan Arnold (Jordan W. Arnold), Andrew Patrick (Emily Patrick), Gabriel West, Samuel West, and Matthew Gainey; her great-great nieces: Brailynn Cerny and Lennon Arnold and her great- great nephew, Warren Dean. Coltrain "Wormie, The Worm, PJ, Grandaddy Worm, Pop, Daddy, Dad, Brother, Jimmy, Uncle Jimmy, was born in Williamston in Martin County, NC on March 19, 1942 to the late Archie Thomas Coltrain, Sr. and Emma Elizabeth "Lib" Sexton Coltrain of Jamesville "Farmlife Community" in Martin County.

Jimmie loved his family and worked hard to provide for them. As an employee of Fine Paper at Weyerhaeuser Paper Mill in Plymouth, NC, Jimmie worked for 36 years and made many lasting friendships. After retirement, he went back to work as a consultant for Voith Fabrics selling felt to the Plymouth paper mill for an additional 5 years. Playing golf was another life long passion of his with many hole-in-ones. He got his famous name Worm from a special golf shot called "The Worm Burner" where he could shoot a straight shot fast and low to the ground. He had a great amount of respect for the Lord and for a period of time served as Deacon at Wilkinson Church of Christ. He and his wife Sylvia made absolutely sure the children were in church every time the doors were opened. He taught his family to appreciate hunting and fishing. When his children were young he loved to take the family hunting and was a member of Green Sea Hunting Club. He shared his passion for fishing with his children and grandchildren. In his early days, he was an avid bass fisherman with so many trophies he had to add extra support beams just to hold them in the attic. The Belhaven Bass Masters club made him aspire to be like Bill Dance and Roland Martin.

He didn't know many strangers. He would joke and cut up with people in the grocery store, on the golf course, at restaurants, on the job, at church, on the hunting club and anywhere he could find someone willing to laugh or talk to him. If you ever met Jimmie you knew in a heartbeat, he was going to keep you entertained. He was a man of many words.

His first love and mother of his children, Sylvia, passed away in 2019. For all of those who knew Jimmie it was apparent he could not enjoy life alone. God placed his second love of his life in his path. He knew Marty many years ago from playing golf with her late husband. They quickly rekindled their friendship and fell in love and were married. The family quickly embraced their love for one another and a new chapter began.

Jimmie was survived by his wife Marty Dail Whritenour of 4 years; a son, James Todd (Amy) Coltrain, their children Zack (Bridgette) Coltrain, Issac (Kelsey) Coltrain, Tanner (Mollie) Coltrain, and Taylor Coltrain (Blake) Sheaffer; a daughter Connie Elizabeth Coltrain (Chris) Martin, their children Kasey Allen (Blake) Riggs, Tyler (Brandy) Allen; son Ronnie Gaylord (Beverly) Coltrain, their children Ethan (Casey) Coltrain, Caleb (Julia) Coltrain; a son Gregory Stewart (Tiffany) Coltrain, their children Mara, Austin, Jewel, Kaylyn Coltrain (Matthew) Jordan, Mollie and Mallorie Coltrain, stepdaughter Marie (Todd) Peele, their children Bailey Hollingsworth, Meadowe Peele and Paden Peele, stepdaughter Michelle (Scott) Oliphant, their children Sandi Gregory, John Schuch, Nicholas (Sky) Schuch. He is also survived by 17 great grandchildren, Christopher, Lexi, Braylee, Miland, Adalyn, Nora, Thea, Clara, Hudson, Tatum, Boone, Emberly, Anderson, Gracelyn, Ada, Judah, Leaven and two more on the way as well as step great grandchildren Aleigha, Bentley, Christian, Brendan, Aria and Rylee. He was preceded in death by first wife of 56 years, Sylvia Ann Shavender Coltrain, his father Archie Thomas Coltrain, Sr., mother Emma Elizebeth "Lib" Sexton Coltrain, his three brothers Archie Thomas "Tommy" Coltrain, Jr., Phillip Wayne Coltrain, Charles Lawrence Coltrain, Sr., and a son-in-law, Hampton "Hampy" Allen. His niece, Lori and husband John Blackburn were only a stone's throw away living next door and shared a very special bond and relationship with Uncle Jimmie.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Coach Doug Barnes "Barnie". He was a lasting friend to Jimmie who called daily when he moved out of the area. Once Jimmie found home at Autumnfield, Barnie came and visited with him daily without fail. In addition, the family is grateful for his caregivers Fran Gibbs, Anita Freeman, Shelia Morgan, Sonya Hopkins, Ronnie Suggs, the staff at Autumnfield Rest Home and Amedisys Hospice Care nurses.

Jasper (Wayne), was born in Washington, NC on January 16, 1944 and graduated from Bath High School in 1962 and then obtained a business degree from Danville Technical Institute in Danville, VA. He married Frances "Annette" Paramore in 1963, had four children, and spent 60 years devoted to each other.

Jasper (Wayne) was a lifelong member of Everetts Church of Christ where he served as a board member for many years and as an Elder until his death. He worked hard for many years in the insurance business, farming, and as a small business owner until he finally retired from Perdue Farms in 2008, after which he continued to work hard at home and in his community. During the years his children were growing up, he served at Bath High School in the Boosters Club and PTO. He coached little league baseball for the Washington Youth Baseball League and spent many hours teaching kids to play ball and attending the games of his children and grandchildren. He loved working in his garden and his yard, woodworking, fishing, and was a sports enthusiast until his last day on Earth.

Jasper (Wayne) was preceded in death by his parents, Jasper Fillmore "Tucker" Tuten and Ottlee Alligood Tuten; his brothers-in-law George S. York, Glen Arnold, and Edgar Ray Paramore, Jr (Buddy), His mother-in-law Phrocine Boyd Paramore and father-in-law Edger Ray Paramore, as well as many of his close friends.

He is survived by his wife Annette Paramore Tuten and his four children Bryan Wayne Tuten (Jennifer) of Greenville, Monica Annette Tuten Oro (Martin) of Pinetown, Kimberly Ann Tuten Robinson (Travis) of Wilmington, and Kylie Roxann Tuten Boothe (Jeremy) of North Wilkesboro; His sister Catherine Tuten Arnold of Pinetown; eight grandchildren, Courtney Wells Dickson (Jeff), Mariah Oro Hudson (Ben), Collin Ray Robinson, Anthony Wayne Oro, Carlee Jeanette Robinson, Rylan Matthew Tuten, Bishop Wayne Boothe, and Katherine Marie "Katie" Tuten; and three great-grandchildren, Jacob Tim Dickson, Jasper Lee Hudson, and Sampson Elias (Sammy) Hudson, and one on the way, his sister-in-law Cynthia York as well as a nephew, nieces, and many friends.

They were the source of her greatest joy and inspiration, and she cherished every moment spent with them, creating cherished memories that would endure through the years. Joan's legacy of faith, love, and family bonds will continue to resonate in the lives of all who were fortunate enough to know her.

A faithful member of St. Clair's Church of Christ, Joan was very active in her church community and found solace in her faith. She leaves behind cherished memories for her surviving family: son Edward (Ed) Russ Jr.(wife Mary Russ), daughter Theresa (Terri) Russ Wilson, grandchildren Sara Hayes (husband Curtis Hayes), Eliza Buchanan (husband Zach Buchanan), Rachel Wilson, Maggie Alvarado (husband Danny Alvarado), and great-grandson Finnegan Russ Buchanan. Joan is also survived by her sisters Dorothy Davis Deporter and Nancy Davis Christian, and brother Jasper "Buddy" Rollins Davis, Jr.

Joan is preceded in death by her parents, Jasper and Edna (Cuthrell) Davis, her husband of more than sixty years: Edward Wayne Russ Sr., and sisters Geneva Davis Mason, Linda Davis Johnson, and brother Bobby Vail Davis. While she may be gone, Joan's memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
