Betty Lucille Allen - January 25, 1934 - May 07, 2024

Departed: 05/07/2024 (Evansville)
Obituary Preview: Betty Allen, loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend, died peacefully at Sienna Meadows Memory Care, Oregon WI on Monday, May 7, 2024. She was 90 years old. She was born Betty Lucile Lawry on January 25, 1934, in Green County, WI to Charles and Myrtie Lawry. On June 30, 1956, she married her childhood sweetheart Donald Allen and settled in Evansville, WI.
Betty attended Evansville High School and following her mother’s teaching profession, graduated with a teaching degree from Wisconsin State College of Milwaukee in 1956. She taught at Evansville School District for many years, inspiring 2nd graders until her retirement in 1990. Betty was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church in Evansville, where she met and later married Don. She was a talented quilter – delighting family and friends with her beautiful work. Betty carefully labeled each quilt, ensuring her legacy will continue to be passed down for generations to come. She loved seeing the world with her “reluctant traveler” Don, visiting relatives in England, exploring Europe, cruising in Alaska and spending time with her children and granddaughters in Hawaii. Betty and Don also enjoyed the warm sunshine in Arizona for many winters – spending happy times with her daughter and twin granddaughters. Bett was also quite the pro at napping – a talent passed down to both her children. While not a golf lover like her husband Don, she became a golf super fan thanks to Edgerton native Steve Stricker. Bett was able to have a long chat and photo session with her local golf hero at a charity event.
When Betty was a young girl, her oldest brother, Lt. Donald Lawry, never returned from his bombing mission over the North Sea in February of 1944. Years later, Betty was able to help with research for a book written about these brave American bomber squads. She wrote the foreword for the book, The Emotional Gauntlet, by Stuart Wright. Her connection with Stuart lasted for many years and she was very proud be part of this project to help memorialize her brother.
Betty is survived by her devoted husband of 67 years, Don, son Tim (Alisa), daughter Jill (Tom), and her two granddaughters Madi and Tara and a step-grandson Branden. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Donald and Raymond Gordon Lawry, and her many friends and relatives.
Visitation will be at the United Methodist Church, 21 S Madison Street, Evansville on Monday, May 13 from 10:00 am to 11:30 am with a service following the visitation. Interment will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions to United Methodist Church, Evansville. Ward Hurtley Funeral Home is assisting the family. Special thanks for the caring, wonderful staff at Sienna Meadows and St. Croix Hospice for their help and support during the final days of Betty’s grand adventure. Being there for her and her loved ones during the ups and downs of hospice are truly appreciated.
Betty loved watching birds around her backyard feeders and crab apple tree. She continued to enjoy the birds when she was less mobile and could not be outdoors. Her joy of life, love for her family, and cheerful enthusiasm will always be remembered. Like a Bird by Victor Hugo Be like a bird, who Halting in his flight On a limb too slight Feels it give way beneath him, Yet sings
Knowing he hath wings.

Randall Wilbert Peters - September 20, 1947 - April 22, 2024

Departed: 04/22/2024 (Evansville)
Obituary Preview: We have lost a good man to a horrible disease. Randy Peters, of purposeful action with a peaceful heart, passed away at All Saints Memory Care in Madison on April 22, 2024. He is survived by his wife, Pat, son Robert and his wife Kasi and children Lucas and Felicity in Culver City, California, son Jacob and his wife Sarah and children Samuel and Timothy in Madison, all of whom loved and admired him and carry on his love of music, adventure, dance, curiosity, and immense kindness. He is further survived by a brother Tom Peters and wife Cora in New Berlin, a sister-in-law Pam and husband Will Heritage in Evansville, and AFS family Lina and Michel Plasse in Sete, France. Randy was preceded in death by his parents Lucille and Ed Peters, and Pat’s parents Marion and Bob Erstad.
Born September 20, 1947, Randy was raised in Milwaukee and graduated from Rufus King High School as Valedictorian and continued his education at UW Madison, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Physics and a Master’s degree in Business Administration. He was a lifelong Badger fan and season ticket holder at Camp Randall, taking three (victorious!) trips to the Rose Bowl in Pasadena. He first worked as an engineer at Ray-O-Vac in Madison, where he was awarded US patents 3749605 and 3880672 for the first digital watch battery, and later joined his father-in-law’s insurance business in Evansville which evolved into a career in financial planning and advising.
Randy and Pat Erstad met when they both worked at the snack shop in Sellery Hall, and they were married in August 1969, treasuring all of the nearly 55 years they spent together. Their marriage was blessed with two sons, Rob and Jake. Randy cherished his role as father and grandfather and was always so proud of his sons and their own roles as fathers as well as his two daughters-in-law and four grandchildren. He found an outward expression of family roots in the Erstad family homestead farm in North Dakota, where he spent time every summer nurturing both the physical buildings and the ethereal concepts of family and love.
Randy was always very intentional about finding and knowing his place in the world. On the bookmark of his trusty Franklin Planner he noted “What Matters Most” as “Create memories” and “Never stop exploring.” He strove not to be perfect, but to be his “best self” — including his physical self as an exercise and gym enthusiast, becoming a black belt and instructor in Tae Kwon Do, and studying Tai Chi for his later decades; including his mental self with an intense interest in history, bringing history books along while traveling in Europe to retrace the World War II footsteps of his father and others, always questioning how the world came to be how it is today, and always a voracious reader eager to take on challenging books; and including his spiritual self, as a student of meditation and the Eastern philosophies that attended his martial arts studies.
Randy delighted in the beauty of both the natural world — from majestic views during backcountry adventures and world travels, to the birds and other wildlife he encountered at his Middleton condo and in frequent walks with Pat in the nearby conservancy — and the human arts, with an eclectic love of music and dancing that was on display whenever the right beat made the hair stand up on his arms or got his knees bouncing.
We are lucky that Randy was generous, though not overbearing, in sharing his accumulated wisdom. He guided and led Boy Scouts through numerous summer camps and canoe and high adventure trips, including coaching hundreds of scouts to complete the Mile Swim activity when they had thought it impossible, and mentoring 49 scouts to achieve their Eagle rank. He was known in his workplace for helping newcomers find their path towards a successful and ethical career. He collected quotes and snippets from books and articles as well as his own reflections into a printed document that he titled “Randy’s Section Six” and shared with close family.
Randy often spoke of living the golden years not knowing what challenges might be ahead, and so he lived in the moment, traveled the world when he was young and healthy, and left no bucket list other than his desire to watch the grandchildren grow up. But the disease of dementia hit hard, starting about ten years ago when Randy himself noticed that he wasn’t able to do what he had always done. His true intrinsic self continued to shine through, appreciating life and expressing love in any way he was able — focusing on physical activity with Tai Chi classes, completing jigsaw puzzles, and always having a tender kiss ready for Pat.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 20th at the Ward-Hurtley Funeral Home in Evansville, WI with visitation at 10:00 and a service to follow at Noon. Those who wish to honor Randy are encouraged to donate to Alzheimer’s research, Agrace hospice, Evansville Scout Troop 514, or the Pheasant Branch Conservancy.
Randy’s family has tremendous gratitude for all of the staff at All Saints Memory Care and Agrace Hospice and Adult Day Care Center. They treated Randy like family.

Mary Ann Beaver - February 24, 1961 - April 06, 2024

Departed: 04/06/2024 (Evansville)
Obituary Preview: Mary Ann Beaver, 63, passed away at UW Hospital Madison on April 6, 2024. She was born on February 24, 1961 in Madison, WI, daughter of Arthur Ernest Phillips and Ruby Willadene Cato. She attended Evansville Schools and graduated from Evansville High School in 1979. Mary was an outstanding athlete in volleyball, basketball, and softball throughout her whole high school career and was named first team all conference in volleyball for her wicked spike and all around athleticism and sportsmanship. Soon after high school she met Thomas Mark Beaver and was married on December 5, 1981. Mary worked for Evansville School District as Lead Lunch Lady and Athletic Coach for volleyball, basketball, and softball for almost 20 years. She loved being able to help out a student in need whenever she was able, make some wonderful lunches, and teach the name of the game in sports. When it came to the youth of Evansville, she was more than a lunch lady or coach she was someone trying to make a difference. While she worked for the school district she also was running on the Evansville Ambulance as a volunteer EMT. She did all three of these jobs for many years before she decided to leave the role as lunch lady to become the Coordinator for the Evansville EMS full time. She took a big part in the Evansville Ambulance’s transition from a volunteer service to a paid employee service along with the purchase of a second ambulance. Mary fought with her knowledge to make many hard strides to better the community that she took part in. In 2009 Mary ran and was voted in to the Rock County Board of Supervisors where she was Chair of the Public Safety and Justice Committee and partook in numerous other committees. In 2013 Mary found out that she contracted bacteria that started eating away her heart in which she went through many different courses of action prior to receiving a heart from a donor in 2015. Mary would retire from her EMS Coordinator position in 2014 and take on her role with the County more on a full time basis. Her pivotal leadership and guidance in the committees is what made her an exemplary candidate for the Board of Supervisors. She adopted many resolutions, made an assortment of new colleague that she enjoyed passing her knowledge off to, and spoke to make change.
Mary will be remembered most for her strong willed and witty personality, her kindness and nurturing demeanor, and her drive in life and sports. She always was quick with her wittiness but quicker to show love and compassion towards all. Mary was a person who not only advocated for herself through her transitions but advocated for many others through her time here on earth. She was a major advocate to patients at UW hospital in the transplant community. Mary also was a grandma before anything, she did whatever she could to be a solid part of her grandkids foundation and loved them all with everything that she was on this earth.
Mary is survived by her husband Thomas Beaver, Evansville, WI.; her kids Zachory Thomas Beaver and Amanda Marie Beaver; grandchildren Zachory JR. Beaver, Arthur Beaver, and Kealy Ann Beaver; Sisters Cheryl Trow, Arlene Nelson, Carol Franklin; Brother Randy Phillips; Aunt to many nieces and nephews and a dear friend to many.
Preceded in Death by father, Arthur Phillips; Mother, Ruby Cato; Brothers, Arthur Earl and Arthur Jr.; Nephews, Jason Franklin and Tyler Bailey; Niece, Shelby Jo Bartz; Brother in law, Guy Nelson.
Mary’s family would like to thank the teams at UW Hospital for their added efforts and support in this shocking event.
Upon Mary’s wishes one of them was to not have a funeral after her passing so instead there will be a big Celebration of Life for Mary that will be announced at a future date. “She made broken look beautiful and strong look invincible. She walked with the universe on her shoulders and made it look like a pair of wings.”

There will also be A Celebration of Life gathering for Ken held on Sunday, May 19, 2024 from 2:00 – 5:00 pm, at the Evansville Golf Club in Evansville, WI.
Ken was born November 21, 1949 in Stoughton, WI to Victor and Evelyn (Hansen) Fuchs. He joined Varco Pruden in 1969 as an entry level draftsman. He retired after 45 years as a Sr Checker/Designer. Ken was a dedicated employee and was admired by many of the younger people he mentored.
He was a member of the Evansville Volunteer Fire Department from 1971 to 2014 as a Firefighter, then Lieutenant, then Captain, and then Assistant Chief. Ken enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and traveling. He was an avid sports fan and a lifelong, loyal St. Louis Cardinal’s fan, Wisconsin Badger fan, and Green Bay Packers fan.
After retirement, Ken moved to Necedah to be with his beloved partner Sheryl. They did everything together. He would drive her to work in the snowstorms, do the laundry, get the groceries, and take care of the yard. He spent his Tuesday nights at Country Pines with his friends, Thursdays were shopping in the Rapids with breakfast at Four Star Family Restaurant, and in the summer golfing once a week with his friend Ray. He made many good friends in the area and loved living up north.
In his retirement years Ken and his beloved partner Sheryl traveled extensively throughout Europe, Northern Africa, Aruba, Panama, and the United States. Their most recent trip was a month-long trip to Spain that included an excursion to Morocco.
Ken is survived by his daughter Angie (Sean) Kessler, son Steven Fuchs, grandchildren Ava and Maci Kessler, brothers Daryl (Mary Jo Helker) Fuchs, Gary (Cheryl Gibbs) Fuchs, Dean Fuchs, sister Linda (Jim) Woodstock, Beloved partner Sheryl Bennett and his dog Sammy.
He was preceded in death by his parents Victor and Evelyn (Hansen) Fuchs, grandparents William and Babetta (Trumpi) Fuchs, Nels and Florence (Mackeprang) Hansen. Tribute
It would be an understatement to say that Ken was a unique individual. Not only was he an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt, fish, and golf, he also dedicated 43 years of his life as a volunteer firefighter in Evansville. His dedication to his volunteer work eventually awarded him the rank of Assistant Chief; A title we know he was extremely proud to carry.
Ken took immense interest in passing along his knowledge of the outdoors onto others, most recently to his grandnephews Dylan and Maddox. He also took great pride in befriending them and showing them how to have fun while attending the ever-so-coveted annual Canadian fishing trip. Dylan and Maddox’s ages did not matter to Ken, as he had a natural ability to connect with all sorts of people. Children were no exception.
Ken had an animated and jovial personality. One would never catch him without a perpetual smile on his face, which lowered the barrier of tension, put everyone at ease, and was absolutely infectious. He spoke his mind (you never had to wonder what Ken was thinking!), made people laugh with his self-deprecating humor, loved with his whole heart, and told the best stories. An author could write a best-selling biography filled with nothing but stories of his adventures and countless escapades over the years. Being in his inner circle of friends and family was a fun and always entertaining place to be, to say the least.
Big Ken was definitely a one-of-a-kind individual. He was a loving brother, father, grandfather, and to all, an amazing friend. His absence leaves a hole in all our hearts and lives, and he will be greatly missed.

Raymond John Miller - April 08, 1928 - January 20, 2024

Departed: 01/20/2024 (Evansville)
Obituary Preview: Raymond John Miller peacefully passed away on Saturday, January 20th, 2024, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Middleton, WI. He was born on April 8, 1928, in Cary, Illinois to Albert and Anne Kern Miller. He attended Saints Peter & Paul Elementary School, in Cary and graduated from Crystal Lake High School, Crystal Lake, Illinois. Ray lived on Three Oaks Road, and farmed with his father Albert, near Cary until he started working for Cary Dairy delivering milk. He also served in the Illinois National Guard. He married Josephine Pavlak on November 6, 1948. Ray served as a Sergeant in the US Army during the Korean War. He and Josephine lived on army bases in Santa Barbara, California, and Seattle, Washington. After the war, he returned to working at Cary Dairy delivering milk until 1964, when he and Josephine, with their 4 children moved to a farm on Miller Road, near Janesville, Wisconsin. Ray raised beef cattle, hogs, and grain including corn, soybeans and hay with his son, Daniel. He loved flying, kept a light plane at his farm and for many years, he enjoyed flying it. Ray was also very active at the Brodhead Airport, and the EAA Chapter 431 where he assisted with many activities held there, especially the fly-ins, cooking and serving his infamous pork chops. The special relationship he had with his ‘airport family’ was something Ray treasured. Avid square dancers, Ray and Josephine danced for many years with the Milton Village Squares. Ray loved horses. It was how he and Josephine met as they rode horses on their neighboring childhood farms where they lived. Later, Ray assisted his daughter, Mary, who trained and showed horses. He also loved being involved with his grandchildren, especially Deborah’s children who were his first and he, with Grandma Jo, became a part of their daily life as they grew up on the family farm. He spent many hours through the years helping all his grandchildren on their 4-H projects, whether it was an animal or model project or even the Magnolia 4-H float. Active in the Rock County Pork Producers, he had served as president and enjoyed working at the Rock County Porkfest. The Evansville FFA Alumni Club was another interest of Ray's, and he served as an officer. Ray enjoyed living and working on the farm, playing with his model trains, building model airplanes, listening to Molly B polka music and playing with his beloved dog, Freddie.
Another highlight in Ray’s life was the Rock Energy Cooperative. His connection began 60 years ago when he and Jo bought the farm in Center township and received electrical service. When Jo was elected as a director on the board, Ray enjoyed traveling with her to the many meetings over the 26 years she had served. He talked frequently of all the “good people” that were all associated with the cooperative and looked forward to receiving in his mailbox the monthly magazine to see what “Mr. Shane” had to say.
In his later years he sought medical attention at the Veterans Administration Clinic and Hospital. He was always appreciative of the excellent care and concern each staff member had for him. His daughter, Barbara, who assisted him to appointments, saw the special relationship he had with his primary caregiver, Mr. Michael Dodd RN, MSN, APNP and his nurse Kathy. It was a social event to catch up with them as well as addressing his medical concerns. Thank you, to all the staff at the Veterans Hospital for the excellent care, especially the CLC Hospice Unit. Ray also received care to live in his home for many years with his dog, because of a special care giver, Kristi Powers. The family is so appreciative to her in helping make Josephine’s last year so very comfortable and continued to assist Raymond for another 5 years. Raymond is survived by his 4 children: Mary (Dennis) Haakenson, Deborah Thornton, Barbara Miller (Leon) Maerz, and Daniei (Lori) Miller. Grandchildren are: Dennis Erik (Katie) and Mark Haakenson; Aaron (Julie) Thornton, Jennifer (Richard) Sullivan, and Michael (Ann) Thornton; Joseph Miller-Maerz, Abigail, Mallory, and Matthew Miller; two great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Terry Lee McKinney - August 19, 1962 - January 11, 2024

Departed: 01/11/2024 (Evansville)
Obituary Preview: Terry Lee McKinney, 61, of Evansville, WI, passed away quietly at home on January 11th after a courageous 12-year battle with cancer.
Born to Judy McKinney in August of 1962, Terry spent his childhood tagging along with his grandpa Putney on the farm and exploring the surrounding countryside. He graduated from Brodhead High School in 1980. Throughout his career as a student, he participated in FFA, the Chess Club, and the French Club, along with baseball, track, football, and wrestling. You could also find him cruising around in his prized blue Camaro. He enjoyed close relationships with his mother and his grandma and grandpa Putney growing up.
Terry met the absolute love of his life, Jana, in 1985 at their mutual place of employment in Brodhead, WI. The two officially became a family on February 14, 1989, along with their two children, Cori and Rick. As a young family they spent many weekends camping, primarily at Sweet Minihaha where they had a seasonal site, fishing, spending time on Lake Kegonsa on the pontoon boat, and hiking at Magnolia Bluff.
Terry was employed at Baker Manufacturing of Evansville, WI for many years, and attended Blackhawk Technical College to obtain his CNC Operator/Machinists degree. After a short stint as a delivery driver for various companies, he returned to manufacturing at Franklin Fueling for the last period of time he was physically able to work.
Terry explored many hobbies over the years; some of his favorites were fishing, bowling and creating a beautiful yard for he and Jana’s home. He also dabbled in golfing, riding his Honda Goldwing, and checking out the garage sales, where he was a master at rooting out treasures. He enjoyed fantasy football and the Packers, the occasional trip to the casino, and even sometimes, playing BINGO. Though not big travelers, he and Jana did enjoy several memorable vacations in Las Vegas, South Dakota, and Florida. It was not uncommon to find the couple spending time with and enjoying a beverage with best friends they considered family, Mike & Lori, or Jill & Puc.
Though he was most definitely 100% tone-deaf, he still sang along to songs, sometimes using the right words and sometimes making up his own, and there was a known but silent rule when watching Wheel of Fortune with him that it didn’t necessarily matter who guessed the answer first, but who said it the loudest. He was always the loudest.
What he enjoyed more than any of his hobbies however, was spending time with his family and dogs. His eldest grandchild’s first word was “Bompa” and their annual tradition of visiting Santa and having their photo taken together touched many hearts, having been covered on the local news and newspaper. He was the best husband, dad, grandpa, and great-grandpa anyone could ever ask for.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Judy, his grandparents Earl and Mabel Putney, and several aunts and uncles. He will be sorely missed by his wife, Jana, children; Cori (Krysa) Marann, and Rick (Jackie) McKinney, his grandchildren; Taylor Reichert, Jesse and Jess McKinney, and his great-grandson with whom he did not receive nearly enough time with, Carter. He is further survived by his brother Earl (Mary), sister Ruthie (Josh), sister-in-law Vicky (John) Rasmussen, and seven nephews. His family and friends will remember his quick and distinct laugh, fantastic growl, and huge capacity for love.
The grace with which he fought his battle and the manner in which he handled the almost constant pain he was in for the last decade of his life are testaments to how strong of a man he was, and lessons that even when things are terrible, they can still be beautiful.
We will think of him and honor him daily in our choices and in the hardships we face.
The family would like to thank the UW Carbone Cancer Center, specifically Dr. Noel LoConte, nurses Maggie and Noreen, and all of the other wonderful staff that helped him in his endeavor to spend as much time with his family as he could.
They would also like to thank Agrace Hospice care, nurses Katie and Stephanie, and Megan, for their outstanding help in making sure that his last adventure in this life was as peaceful and pain-free as possible. A visitation will be held on Saturday, January 20th from 2-4pm at Ward-Hurtley Funeral Home at 130 S. 5th Street in Evansville, WI, with a funeral service to follow. A celebration of life will be scheduled for a later date. For online condolences please visit www.wardhurtley.com

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an obituary?

An obituary is a written notice that announces the death of a person, typically including biographical information, accomplishments, and surviving family members. It is often published in newspapers, online obituary platforms, or funeral home websites to inform friends, family, and community members of the deceased's passing.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to honor and celebrate the life of the deceased, while also providing essential information to those who need to know about the passing. They can help facilitate condolences, tributes, and memorial services, allowing loved ones to come together and pay their respects.

Who writes an obituary?

Typically, the obituary is written by a family member, close friend, or funeral home staff. In some cases, a professional obituary writer may be hired to craft the notice. The writer should have a good understanding of the deceased's life, personality, and accomplishments to create a meaningful and accurate tribute.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A typical obituary includes the deceased's full name, age, date of birth and death, cause of death (optional), surviving family members, notable achievements, hobbies, and any relevant biographical details. It may also include information about memorial services, donations, or other ways to honor the deceased.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary depending on the publication or platform. Generally, it should be concise yet informative, ranging from a few sentences to several paragraphs. Online obituaries often allow for longer tributes with more photos and stories.

Can I include photos in an obituary?

Yes, many publications and online platforms allow you to include one or multiple photos with the obituary. These can be recent or vintage images that showcase the deceased's personality or highlight special moments in their life.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper?

Contact the newspaper's obituary department directly to inquire about their submission process and guidelines. Some newspapers may accept online submissions, while others may require email or phone submissions. Be prepared to provide necessary information and payment for the publication.

What is the cost of publishing an obituary?

The cost varies depending on the publication, location, and length of the obituary. Expect to pay anywhere from $50 to several hundred dollars for a print publication. Online obituaries may be free or low-cost, especially if you're using a funeral home's website or a dedicated obituary platform.

Can I write my own obituary?

Yes, it's becoming increasingly popular for people to write their own obituaries in advance. This allows you to have control over how you're remembered and can be a therapeutic exercise in reflecting on your life and legacy.

What is a self-written obituary called?

A self-written obituary is sometimes referred to as an "autobit" or "self-obit." It's a unique opportunity for individuals to tell their story in their own words and provide a personal perspective on their life.

How do I find an old obituary?

You can try searching online archives of newspapers or genealogy websites like Ancestry.com or Newspapers.com. Local libraries or historical societies may also maintain archives of old newspapers and obituaries. Funeral homes may retain copies of past obituaries as well.

Can I edit an existing obituary?

If you've already published an obituary and need to make changes, contact the original publication or platform where it was posted. They may allow revisions or corrections, but this depends on their policies and procedures.

What is a death notice versus an obituary?

A death notice is a brief announcement of someone's passing, usually including only basic information like name, age, and date of death. An obituary provides more detailed biographical information and tributes to the deceased.

Can I include humor in an obituary?

Absolutely! Humor can be an effective way to capture the deceased's personality and spirit in the obituary. Just be sure to balance humor with respect and tact when writing about your loved one.

How do I handle errors in an already-published obituary?

Contact the publication or platform immediately to report any inaccuracies. They may issue a correction or reprint the revised obituary. If online, they may update the digital version promptly.

Can I republish an obituary on social media or my personal website?

Check with the original publication or platform for permission before republishing an obituary elsewhere. You may need to obtain copyright clearance or provide proper attribution.

What is the difference between a funeral notice and an obituary?

A funeral notice typically focuses on details about the upcoming funeral service, such as date, time, location, and burial information. An obituary provides more comprehensive biographical information about the deceased.

Can I include quotes or lyrics in an obituary?

Yes! Quotes, lyrics, or poems can add depth and meaning to an obituary. Choose something that resonates with the deceased's personality or interests to make the tribute more personal.

How do I notify friends and acquaintances about a death without publishing an obituary?

You can use social media platforms, email, or phone calls to share news about a loved one's passing with friends and acquaintances who might not see a published obituary.

Is it appropriate to include charitable donations in an obituary?

Absolutely! Including information about charitable donations in lieu of flowers can be a meaningful way to honor the deceased's memory and support a worthy cause.

Can I write an anonymous obitary?

In most cases, it's not recommended to write an anonymous obituary. Obituaries are meant to be personal tributes from those who knew and loved the deceased. However, there may be exceptions for sensitive situations; consult with a funeral home or publication for guidance.

How long does it take for an online obitary to be published?

The timeframe for publishing an online obitary varies depending on the platform or website. Some may publish immediately after submission, while others may take several hours or days for review and approval.

Can I remove an obitary from online platforms after it's been published?

Policies regarding obitary removal vary across platforms. Contact the website or publication directly to request removal; they may accommodate your request under certain circumstances.
