Obituary Preview: Marlene “Molly” S. Tweddell, age 81 of Wayland, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday, May 16, 2024 at the Vincent House.

Molly was born on July 20, 1942 in Springwater to the late Milton & Louita (Wetmore) Brooks. After graduating from high school, Molly earned her Associate’s Degree. Molly married Richard “Dick” Tweddell on October 28, 1961 and together raised two daughters, Lauri & Terri.

She started her working career as a cashier in the school lunchroom and retired as the Wayland-Cohocton School Treasurer. She and Dick retired on the same day: July 1, 1997. In her younger years, Molly was involved in the local 4-H Club and cheerleading. She was a past board member of the Wayland Free Library, an active member of the Springwater Historical Society and former Brownie/Girl Scout Leader.

Molly enjoyed being busy and was very active in the community. She was the first female Master of the Springwater Grange; she was a life member of the St. Paul’s United Church of Christ where she was part of the choir and Women’s Guild; and was also a member of the Lowell Club.

In her free time, she enjoyed gardening and doing jigsaw puzzles; she loved to crochet, knit, sew & cross-stitch; she & Dick loved to travel and would often do so with each other and other couples; she loved nothing more than spending time with her children, grandchildren & great-grandchildren, all of whom she loved very much.

In addition to her parents, Molly is predeceased by her daughter, Lauri; and her siblings: Anita Louise, Donald & Steven.

Molly will be sorely missed by her husband, Richard “Dick” Tweddell; her daughter, Terri (David) Moir; her granddaughter, Genny (Jacques Begin) Stephens; her grandson, Colton Moir; her great-grandchildren: Brock, Chloe & JD; and her sisters-in-law: Jean Ann Drum and Sally Gutterman.

Friends & family are invited to call from 3pm – 6pm on Friday, May 24, 2024 at the Walter E. Baird & Sons Funeral Home in Wayland. Funeral services will take place privately. Burial will overlook Loon Lake at Lakeside Cemetery.

Obituary Preview: Lisa R. Bortle, age 55 of Dansville, passed away unexpectedly at home on Monday, May 6, 2024.

Lisa was born on December 15, 1968 in Elyria, Ohio. She met the love of her life, Glenn R. Bortle, on April 7, 1984 and were married on November 6, 1993. Together, Lisa and Glenn celebrated 22 years of marriage and raised two daughters. Glenn predeceased Lisa on September 24, 2016. We take solace in knowing that Lisa has been reunited with her soulmate.

In addition to her husband, Lisa is predeceased by her parents, in-laws, and a beloved sister-in-law and brother-in-law.

After graduating high school, Lisa went into the banking industry and worked her way up to a mortgage lending officer at Community Bank in Dansville. Lisa always had a smile on her face and made friends everywhere she went. She and Glenn took immense pride in their daughters and loved nothing more than spending time with family. Lisa was especially proud of her new title as "Grandma" and her granddaughter, Quinn.

Lisa is survived by her daughters: Rhiannon (Ryan) Stewart & Hannah (Tyler) Hickok; her granddaughter, Quinn Stewart; her siblings: Jamie Stevens, Michael & Terri Bisgrove, Lonzo & Rose Bisgrove, Dorothy Powe-Derrenbacher, and several nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

Family & friends may call from 4pm – 7pm on Friday, May 10, 2024 at the Walter E. Baird & Sons Funeral Home in Wayland. Funeral services will be held at 10am on Saturday, May 11 at the funeral home. Burial will take place following the funeral at Erwin Cemetery in Springwater next to Glenn.

David L. Williams - August 08, 1940 - April 25, 2024

Obituary Preview: David L. Williams, 83, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2024.

David was the eldest child of George Lewis Williams and Lillian Mae (Reed) Williams born August 8,1940 in Batavia, New York. David was raised on a small farm in LeRoy, New York with his brother Reed and sisters Claudette and Lauretta. David graduated from LeRoy High School in 1959, and Alfred State College in 1961.

David had a long career as a general contractor in the Monroe County area earning an exceptional business reputation over more than 40 years. One of few African American business owners specializing in commercial construction, David was the general contractor for Powder Mill Office Park, Pittsford Village Green, the Grain Tower at Schoen Place, Park Central at Linden Oaks, and the Box Factory. David also oversaw construction of The Park at Allens Creek.

David was a beloved father, brother, uncle, stand-in father figure, husband and good friend. He will be remembered by his children for the life lessons he taught through his example of hard work and personal responsibility just as he learned from his parents and grandparents. David will also be fondly remembered by those he worked with over the years including those who got a second chance at gainful employment because of David’s willingness to extend a helping hand.

David enjoyed life at his home in Springwater, New York tending to his garden, chickens and ducks, his dogs, birdwatching and welcoming family and friends for visits. David was predeceased by his first wife Sheila V. (McHardy) Williams, his second wife Nancy J. (Gannon) Williams, and his brother Reed Williams of Los Angeles.

David is survived by his five children from his first marriage, on March 23,1962, to Sheila V. (McHardy) Williams: Jeffery D. Williams and spouse Debbie Ward of Washington, DC; Marcie Williams and spouse Rich Hamer of Alexandria, VA; Shanda Williams of Batavia; Brendon Williams and spouse Emily Fearnside of Hickory, NC; Heather Williams of LeRoy; and eleven grandchildren as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grand nephews. David is also survived by his sisters Claudette Tardy of Bergen and Loretta Smythe (and her spouse John) of Hillsboro, Oregon, and David’s step children Lisa (Gannon) Woodard (and her spouse Troy) of Naples and Robert Gannon (and his spouse Ann) of Canandaigua. Sergeant Craig A. Allen - November 26, 1984 - April 12, 2024

Craig Anthony Allen passed away suddenly April 12, 2024, at Noyes Memorial Hospital. He was 39 years old.

He was born November 26, 1984 in Dansville, New York to Michael and Carol (Rawleigh) Allen, who survive.

After graduating from high school, Craig moved to Florida and attended Full Sail University. He earned degrees in Audio Engineering and Music Production. Shortly after the completion of his studies, he chose to enter into service to his country and joined the United States Army. Craig attended and completed boot camp at Fort Jackson in South Carolina and received recognition for marksmanship and physical fitness. Boot camp was followed by Advanced Individual Training where he became a paralegal specialist. From there he went to the United States Army Airborne School in Fort Benning, Georgia and completed special training to become a proud member of the 82 nd Airborne. He was stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina in the JAG office and then deployed to Afghanistan with a Special Forces unit. Craig was a very dedicated and decorated soldier. After six years of service with excellence and distinction, Craig was honorably and medically discharged after becoming seriously injured in a parachuting

accident.

Craig’s lifelong passion was music. He was a gifted and exceptional musician and songwriter and was a member of several bands over the years as a lead guitarist.

Craig was predeceased by his grandparents, Dewitt and Helen Rawleigh, Al and Millie Allen, and brother Jamin Allen. Surviving are brothers Eric Allen and Seth (Denise Collins) Allen, sisters Leah (Dan) Hayward, Mariah (Derek) Sutherland and JoAnnah Allen (Michael Wallace), nieces and nephews (who called him Uncle Cracky), aunts, uncles and many close friends. Also surviving are his loyal and faithful dogs, Lucky, (who never left his side for 14 years) and Maui, his newest pup.

Calling hours are from 4pm - 7pm onThursday, April 18 at the Walter E. Baird & Sons Funeral Home in Wayland, New York. The funeral will be Friday, April 19 at 11:00 am at the First Presbyterian Church in Cohocton with a luncheon to follow. A committal service with full military honors will take place at 2:00 pm at the Bath National Cemetery in Bath, New York.

Mrs. Uhl was born on May 3, 1949 in Lyons to the late Abe & Elizabeth (Hermenet) DeMeyers. She married the late James Uhl on August 20, 1966. He predeceased Joyce on June 22, 2018.

Joyce worked as a study hall monitor and in the school library at Wayland-Cohocton Central for many years prior to retirement. She enjoyed watching Sunday football with Jim and spending time with her son and grandchildren.

He joined the US Army immediately after high school and proudly served his country for 12 years; upon release from Active Duty, Gil continued to serve his community by joining the Veterans Administration as a Drug & Alcohol counselor where he assisted countless veterans over a 30 year career.

Gil was a family man who served his country and then served those who had served. He enjoyed life! He brought smiles to those around him as indicated by the laughter that could always be heard when he was near. Gil loved his family, friends and rooting for his NY Giants.

Max was born on December 14, 1950 in Rochester to the late John & Mary (Brairton) O’Dea. He earned his Associate's Degree from Finger Lakes Community College in horticulture and honorably served in the United States Army.

Max was the landscaping supervisor for many years at the Conesus golf course. In his free time, Max loved riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle and visiting local legions where he had many friends. He also loved to spend time outdoors fishing and was an avid hunter.

Max is survived by his loving companion, Cindy Wright; his children: Corrie (Patrick) Magee & Brandon O’dea; his grandson, Wyatt William O’dea; his sisters: Marianne (Leo) Batin & Suzie (Bob) Slough; several cousins; and his dog, Scooter.

Obituary Preview: Larry “Skip” Rodney Barnhart, age 85 of Cohocton, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Friday, February 16, 2024 at the Fred & Harriet Taylor Health Center after battling bladder cancer.

Skip was born on November 13, 1938 at home in Wayland to the late Martin & Evelyn (Dann) Barnhart. Skip went on to serve in the United States Air Force and later working a verity of jobs, ending a long career of farming for 20 years at Votypka Farms in Wayland. He enjoyed playing guitar and singing and working at his snowmobile shop in his younger years, spending time in his garage tinkering with things in his later years. His greatest pleasure was spending time with William.

In addition to his parents, Skip is predeceased by his grandchildren: Joshua George, Heather George & Mirella Young; and his siblings: Dale Barnhart, Dana Barnhart, Patricia Barnhart & Judy Marble.

Brian was a dedicated member of the Hemlock Sportsmans Club. He enjoyed surrounding himself with people who shared his love for the outdoors. Brian enjoyed sharing memories and making those around him laugh. He loved to talk about his mother, and how proud he was of his children.

Brian is predeceased by his father Donald Stoddard Sr., and niece Deseree Stoddard. Brian is survived by his children Brittany and Brady Leaty; mother, Orlanda Stoddard; siblings, Donald (Tina) Stoddard, Chuck (Barb) Leaty, Patty Stoddard, and Mary Stoddard; nieces, Danelle (Mike) Woods, Ashlee Stoddard, Branagan, Jerrika, and Burgundee Leaty; nephews, Cutler Leaty, Steven Stoddard, Austin Dingman, and Dalton Braley; several great nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Diane was born on November 6, 1937 in Wayland to the late James & Catherine (Miller) Fronk. She graduated from Bath Haverling High School and was a Proof Operator for Bath National Bank for many years. Long before emergency services were available via 911, Diane was a “Fire Phone” operator and dispatched fire and ambulance personnel.

Diane loved to play Bingo and enjoyed going to the casino. She was an avid reader and was known for posting jokes daily on Facebook. She was a master at knitting, crocheting and jigsaw puzzles. Diane loved a good party and always had a joke ready. She was a great cook but most of all, she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, all of whom she loved dearly.

Predeceasing Diane are her parents: Catherine (Thurston) Carlson and James (Marge) Fronk; her grandparents: Myrtle & Willard Fronk and Ferne Geunsey; her step-brother, Jonathan Fronk; her sister, Ingra Fasching; and her aunt & uncle, Marion & Arthur Cummings.

Diane is survived by her husband, Richard “Dick” Platt; her children: Cynthia J. (Stephen) Washburn, Jennifer Ebert, Michael W. Platt; her grandchildren: James R. (Shelly) Washburn, Melissa K. Bob was born on August 3, 1954 in Wayland to the late Robert J. & Leona R. (Engel) Mark. He graduated from Wayland Central School, studied at Genesee Community College, and retired from Gunlocke as a supervisor in 2019 after a successful 42-year career.

First and foremost, Bob was a family man. He loved his wife, children, grandkids (and the pigs & chickens) very, very much! He enjoyed watching professional sports- (Go Red Sox!) and traveling. He was always available to tell a joke, make someone laugh, bring a smile to everyone’s face, and gave the best hugs. Bob was a happy man who loved to smile and have a good time. He was proud of his family and loved both hosting and attending family events and was affectionately known as, “The Grill Master” and “Papa with the chickens.” Bob enjoyed spending as much time as he could with his wife, kids & grandkids and also looked forward to date night and traveling with his wife, Dena and trying new food and drinks.

He loved old TV movies and series, music, and always looked forward to a new “good” show on TV. Bob had a very tender heart and would occasionally cry at commercials.

Bob was kind and was always thinking of others. He was great at picking out gifts and would often do so “just because.” Bob was a strong man at work & at home, constantly taking care of others before himself.

Bob is survived by his loving & devoted wife, Dena Mark; his beautiful daughters: Stacey Mark, Lindsey (Andrea) Mark, Kristie (Brian) Avery; his grandchildren: Austin, Riley, Mia, Noah & Piper; his siblings: Linda (Mert) Phillips, Barb (Fran) Schubmehl, Paul (Kelly) Mark & Amy (Todd) Conrad; his step-children: Jessica Keeney, Michelle (Adrian) Keeney, Stewart Keeney; his step-grandchildren: Faith, Allen, Emily, Kayleigh, Avah, Abigail, Jaycie, Kellsie, Aubrey, Kenneth, Caulin, Able, Jenni, Logan & Joey; and his great-grandson, Ty.

Shannon was born on June 5, 1977 in Rome NY to Randy Yeoman & Doreen Gates Bigley.

Shannon was a friend to anyone, and a best friend to many. She loved her fur babies Gracie and Onyx, and was always spoiling them. She was the best therapist to anyone who had the pleasure of knowing her and many could call her anytime and she was there to uplift and encourage. She had a contagious smile and obnoxious laugh and was the glue of the family after the passing of her mom. Every night she would call her “Daddio” to make sure he took his medicine and never failed to check up on him to make sure he was ok. Shannon was always willing to help others in any way she could and remained positive through all of life's trials. She fought a long battle with cancer and never let it hold her back from loving others with her whole heart. She always made sure that family pictures got taken to try to save the moment because family was everything to her. Shannon made many beautiful friends who turned into family, from her years of incarceration, who she continued to support and encourage even after being released. She spent her time serving others at Fresh Start Church in Hornell, NY and enjoyed volunteering at Clothes by God's Grace, who provides free clothing to those in need. She was an active participant in her weekly bible study and wanted to share her faith with the world through her social media. She liked crocheting, drawing and painting, playing BINGO and reading her JESUS calling book.

Shannon is predeceased by her mother & stepfather: Doreen Gates Bigley & Larry Bigley; and her stepmother, Brenda Yeoman.

Henry’s life passion was the farm. He owned and operated Sandyway Farms in Cohocton since the early 1950s. He did not have many hobbies but enjoyed making maple syrup, spending time with his grandchildren & great-grandchildren and cheering on the Buffalo Bills! He was a Lifetime Communicate Member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, where he held many positions on the council over the years and was a Lifetime Member of the Cohocton Fire Department. Henry also served as an officer in the German Mutual Insurance Company.

Henry is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ilean; his son, Edward (Cameo Stevens) Schultheiss; three daughters: Joanne (Steven) Wilkinson, Linda (Raymond) VanBuren & Susan (Brent) Bixby; 10 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; his sister, Janet (George) Walter; and many nieces, nephews & cousins.

In addition to his parents, Henry is predeceased by his sisters: Edith (Ernest) Kauer and Mary (Lyman) Wood.

Obituary Preview: Robert M. “Bob” Schwingel, kind, loving, hardworking husband, father, farmer & friend, age 66 of Cohocton, left us to be with Jesus on Friday, November 17, 2023.

This year has been one trial after another for Bob and his health. In July of 2022, Bob was treated for Prostate cancer and in January of this year, he suffered a major stroke; with God’s grace, he recovered well and completed 5 months of therapy while enjoying his time at home working on the garden and outdoor projects. In September, he was treated for jaundice, and tests found pancreatic cancer on November 10, he had major surgery to remove the affected areas of the cancer. Bob was expected to be discharged but while walking hand-in-hand with his wife, Bob collapsed and it is believed he had either massive clots to his lungs or had multiple strokes. Though the hospital staff was able to resuscitate Bob, he never regained consciousness and passed away around 7:30 pm on Friday, leaving his family devastated.

Bob was born on November 6, 1957, in Bath to the late James & Joyce (Polmateer) Schwingel. He graduated in 1975 as valedictorian from Cohocton Central School and later earned his Associate’s Degree from Alfred Ag/Tech in Agri-Business & Animal Husbandry.

Bob pursued his love of farming over his lifetime; first working and then later owning his family’s multigenerational dairy farm. Later, he sold his dairy herd and went to work at Rathbun Farms, Inc. where Bob became an integral part of the organization’s operations and was greatly missed when the effects of his stroke forced him to retire this year.

Bob was an adored husband, beloved father, and grandfather, known as “Papa” to many children who came into his life, and most of all, a devout follower of Christ. In addition to his family, his other loves were his many dogs, his goats, and his flock of chickens. Bob was a long-suffering Buffalo Bills fan through their highs and lows. He also served his congregation as a willing handyman helping the pastor with many projects and assisting in the construction and assembly of many stage designs with his wife, Judy. He loved to work with his hands both in home improvements and often helping others.

In addition to his parents, Bob is predeceased by his Uncle Roger & Aunt Eleanor Schwingel.

Bob is survived by his wife of 42 years, Judy (Wagner) Schwingel; his children: Mark (Ashley Wilkinson) Schwingel, & Kate Schwingel and her partner Michael Duffy; grandchildren: Shelby, Blake & Brayden; his siblings: Deborah (James) Muccigrosso & Ruth Didas; nieces: Nicole (Daniel) Didas & Kristin (Adam) Kline; nephew: Michael; and great-nieces/nephews: Grace & Madeline Kline and Caleb & Ethan Didas.

Geraldine and her twin, Kathleen Fairbrother Zeh, were Valedictorian and Salutatorian of their class at the North Cohocton Atlanta School in 1938. While she spent a majority of her time keeping her house running smoothly, Geraldine was remembered by many for her years as The Lunch Lady at Cohocton Central School. In addition to her cafeteria duties, she took pride in volunteering in her children's classes as "Grade Mother" or wherever a volunteer was needed.

In 1939, Geraldine married Theodore Bolster Jr. Together they celebrated 69 years of marriage, before his passing in 2008.

Geraldine was an active lifelong member of the Cohocton Presbyterian Church and all of its organizations. In her free time, she enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing and crafts. She and Theodore enjoyed travelling around the country, visiting friends and family along the way. Geraldine was an avid sports fan and devout Yankees fan.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by twin Kathleen (Orlo) Zeh and siblings Daniel Fairbrother Jr., Gerard (Molly) Fairbrother, Laura (Benjamin) Emmons, Betty (Bob) Gonyea, Joyce (Maurice) Guerrette, Ernestine (Edward) Schubmehl, Wilma (Clarence) Gibson, Charles Fairbrother, Donald (Edna) Fairbrother, brother-in-law Jay Flint, sister-in-law Donna Fairbrother and son-in-law Dale Lindsey.

Brenda was born to Donna (née Ferris) and George Bushaw on July 11, 1953, in Rome, NY, and was raised by Donna and Edwin (Ted) Harrison. She leaves behind a doting husband, Randy Yeoman, and two loving sisters, Belinda Schuler and Betrina Knox.
