David Roy Hoffmann - October 06, 1939 - May 03, 2022

Departed: 05/03/2022 (Saginaw)
Obituary Preview: David Roy Hoffmann was born on October 6, 1939 to the late Roy and Marguerite Hoffmann. As he grew, his parents cultivated in him a strong love for working the earth and raising a harvest.
Dave met the love of his life, Mary Jane Taylor, on July 4, 1961. They exchanged vows four months later on November 4, 1961 and set about growing a life together. Along with Dave’s brother and Mary’s sister, Lee and Barb Hoffmann, they operated Hoffmann Brothers Farms on Dixie Highway in Bridgeport. As the business grew, so did the family: Dave and Mary had three daughters and also had nieces and nephews close by.
After many seasons on the big farm with their siblings, Dave and Mary transplanted their life into a house with several acres in Bridgeport Township. There, they continued working the ground together for more than 30 seasons, selling produce and flowers at a roadside stand and local farmer’s markets, where he was lovingly known as “The Flower Man”. Dave took special pride in the yield from their garden and loved seeing others get enjoyment from it, too. He found joy in having some of the first local sweet corn each summer, and his flowers routinely graced the altars of several area churches.
Dave was a familiar face around the community. He was employed at Tay Ban Landfill and Bridgeport Township Waste Water, where he was well known for his humor. He was a regular at the morning coffee group at McDonald’s, where he enjoyed exchanging stories with the guys and catching up on the latest happenings in the area.
In November 2021, Dave and Mary celebrated 60 years of marriage as they brought in the harvest from their 60th year of farming together.
On May 3, 2022, Dave heard his Master say, “Well done, good and faithful servant,” as Jesus called him to enter into rest after a full and fruitful life. The writer of Ecclesiastes reminds us, "For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven. A time to be born and a time to die. A time to plant and a time to harvest. A time to cry and a time to laugh. A time to grieve and a time to dance." Dave left the seasons of earthly sowing and reaping and has begun the eternal season of joy and peace in the presence of his God.
Fruits of his marriage with Mary are daughters Joanmarie (Roger) Weiss, Tammy Weiss (John DeWyse), and Angie (Rick) Riley. They are blessed with eight grandchildren: Ryan (Julie) Weiss, Roselynn (Ian) Sharman, Marguerite Weiss, Scott (Beth) Weiss, Lydia (Nick) Raquepaw, Dave (Kate) Pogoreski, Matt Pogoreski, and Nate (Alicia) Riley, and eight great-grandchildren: Timothy and Peter Weiss, Natalie Sharman, Lillian, Alexander, and Theodore Weiss, Hudson and Mason Riley.
In addition to his immediate family, Dave is also remembered by brother and sister-in-law Lee and Barb Hoffmann, special nieces and nephews Christine (Jeff) Alumbaugh, Matt (Marla) Hoffmann, Jeff Hoffmann, and Andy (Mindy) Hoffmann, special brother-in-law Gordie Taylor, Gregory (Lauren) Taylor, Garrett and Gavynn, Brian (Laura) Taylor, Mikayla and Riley, as well as close friend and neighbor Jo Ann Popp. Other surviving family include numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Dave is greeted in Heaven by sisters Doris Fowler and Evelyn Knoll and brother John Hoffmann.
A funeral service will take place at 11:00 am on Friday, May 6, 2022, at W. L. Case & Company, 5700 Dixie Hwy, Bridgeport, Michigan. Pastor Karl Griffiths will officiate with burial to follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 1:00 pm – 8:00 pm at the funeral chapel on Thursday, May 5, 2022, as well as from 10:00 am until the time of service on Friday. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider Lighthouse Baptist Church or Wellspring Hospice of Frankenmuth.

Louis Arlington Butzin II - March 12, 1948 - April 28, 2022

Departed: 04/28/2022 (Saginaw)
Obituary Preview: Louis Arlington Butzin II was welcomed into our world on March 12, 1948. Heaven received him back and into Christ’s loving arms on April 28, 2022. Born the youngest of three children, to Louis and Wanda (Marszalek) Butzin, Louie quickly became his mother’s pet and his father’s challenge.
Mischief aside, Louie had an extremely tender heart and a deep and unconditional love for his family; it was that love, that would be the driving force behind him becoming the sole caregiver for his mother when his father passed away. She would survive countless surgeries, and live long past what was expected, due in large part to the loving care she received from her youngest son.
One of Louie’s proudest moments came in 1973 when he became a father to his daughter, Jodi. Later, when his marriage ended, Louie set his personal life aside once again, and devoted the next several years to raising his young daughter.
In his lifetime, Louie held the titles of Husband, son, and son in law, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, brother-in-law uncle and friend. Each held a special place in Louie’s heart and was met with all the love that the title implied.
As a young man, Louie was truly fearless. More often than not, he could be found, (among other things), drag racing, skydiving, bungee jumping, or riding the tallest rollercoaster. Louie was an avid sportsman. He had a passion for NASCAR, motorcycles (especially Harleys), fishing, boating, and hunting.
One of Louie’s greatest joys was sharing and teaching his knowledge of the outdoors with his two oldest grandsons, Nick and Alex. When his oldest grandson, Nick, harvested his first deer, it was hard to tell who was more excited, Nick or Louie. Though life afforded Louie less time for creating memories with his younger grandchildren, Emmet and Eloise, and great-grandchildren, Lilith, Remy and Soren, each one of them held a special place in Louie’s heart and gave him a heartful of love to take with him when he left this world.
Louie’s passion for hunting was at least equal to his passion for fishing, which he did whenever he had the opportunity, winning him a master angler’s award for a 16-3/4 inch perch.
A bachelor for most of his life, Louie found true and lasting love in 1997 when, following a two-month whirlwind courtship, he married Jeanne Metevia, and gained a son, Michael. Louie and Jeanne shared nearly 25 years together. They were each other’s rock, soul mate and best friend.
Louie had a stubborn side when he thought he was right about something. He was a staunch Democrat and he loved to argue (debate) politics. He was also one of the sweetest, most thoughtful and tenderhearted people you could ever know. Louie’s rich humor, compassionate nature, and generous spirit, along with his normally laid back and easygoing nature, were the qualities that endeared him to both family and friends and won Jeanne’s heart.
Louie was employed by Eaton Corporation, where he served the last several years of his employment as a committeeman and union Vice President. Louie retired in 1998 after thirty-one years of service due to complications with his heart.
Louie also served as a cook in the US Army Reserve.
Louie was not a formal member of any church, however, his love for God was both solid and evident in his love of nature, his selfless nature and the abundance of love that filled his heart toward his family and friends.
Left to grief their loss and celebrate a life that touched so many are: wife, Jeanne, children, Jodi (Jesse) Kish and Michael (Emlee) Metevia, grandchildren, Nick Butzin, Kaitlyn (Josh) Vinova, Jesse (Ben) Blackstone, and Emmet and Eloise Metevia, Great-grandchildren, Lilith Butzin, Remy Butzin, and Soren Vinova, brother, Mike Butzin, mother-in-law, Babe Metevia, brother-in-law, Bob (Emily) Metevia and best friends, George Kross and George Kipfmiller. Louie suffered terribly over the past few years of his life, but today, praise God, he is rejoicing with Jesus and flying with angels. With his love for adventure, it won’t be long before he’s also searching for the best fishing hole in Heaven to fish from, the highest star to swing from; the most vibrant rainbow to splash through; and the best window in Heaven’s floor to watch over the loved ones he left behind. Waiting to greet Louie in Heaven were his parents, Louie and Wanda Butzin, grandson, Alex Butzin, step-son, Scott Gauld, father-in-law, Bob Metevia and his dog, Bart,
Louie’s family would like to thank Dylan and Beth, the ICU nurses at St. Mary’s Hospital and the staff from Careline Hospice for their compassionate care and support.
In accordance with Louie’s wishes, an anatomical donation has taken place. A Prayer Service and Time of Sharing will take place at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 4, 2022 at W. L. Case and Company Funeral Chapel, 5700 Dixie Highway, Saginaw, Michigan 48601. Chaplain Bob Metevia will officiate. Friends may visit with the family from 5:00 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral chapel. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to American Heart Association.

Yes! Many people consider their pets part of their family. Including information about beloved pets in an obituary can provide comfort and recognition for those who are grieving.

How do I preserve memories and mementos after someone passes away?

Carefully collect and organize photos, letters, awards, and other memorabilia into scrapbooks, shadow boxes, or digital archives. These can serve as meaningful tributes to the person's life and legacy.

What resources are available for coping with grief after losing a loved one?
