Obituary Preview: Linda Gail Fishe, daughter of the late Norman A. Fishe and Lugenia McCombs Fishe was born April 24, 1947, in Sherrills Ford, NC. She transitioned peacefully on April 11, 2022, with family by her side.  She is preceded in death by her brother Gary N. Fishe.
Linda was a 1965 graduate of Catawba Rosenwald High School and was involved in many activities and clubs.  She attended North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro, NC.  She was a faithful and dedicated member of Motts Grove United Methodist Church in Sherrills Ford, NC.  She held positions including, Administrator of Single Board Council, Administrative Chair of the General Board, Conference Delegate of Western North Carolina Conference, Chairperson of Trustees for Motts Grove United Methodist Church and Campground, Church Clerk and Historian, Representative for Racial Unity Cohort, and Chair of Transportation Renewal of Churches for Lincoln and Catawba county.
Warmly known as “Sista LG”, or “Aunt Linda”. She had an infectious and tenacious spirit that kept you close even on days when you wanted distance. Her take-charge attitude kept you on your toes, but her genuine spirit of service calmed you when you needed it the most. Physically she left a void, but her spirit remains within all of us to fill that empty space.
Those left to cherish precious memories are her three brothers, Barry (Marjorie) and Jeryl (Antoinette) Fishe of Bowie, MD and Bryan Fishe of Mooresville, NC; two sisters, Sandra (Marvin) Massey and Norma Fishe of Charlotte, NC; two aunts, Roberta McCombs and Etta McCombs of New York; ten nieces and nephews, Gary Fishe of Columbia, SC; Sharon Clark, of Mt. Holly, NC;  Kenyatta Fishe, of Durham, NC; Miles Hammond, of Smyrna, GA; Dasan (Turnesha), Jaron, Jeryne, Jahre, and Jerlan, of Bowie, MD, and Kevin Eugene Fishe, of New York.  Along with a host of cousins, great-nieces and nephews, relatives, and friends.

Obituary Preview: Rosa Mae Patterson-Sherrill, affectionately known as “Rosie, Mother Sherrill or Aunt Rosie” was born on December 28th, 1927 in Mecklenburg County to the late Hattie Dubose and Robert Beatty. Mother Sherrill took her final rest peacefully at home on March 19th, 2022. She was preceded in death by her late husband, Mr. James “Ted” Sherrill, sons: Larry, Steven, and John Patterson; four sisters: Lillie Bell Connor, Ethel Barringer, Jacqueline Barringer, Laura Rivens, and six brothers: Robert Beatty, Grover Beatty, Curtis Beatty, John Beatty, Arlington Beatty and Earnest Beatty. In addition, three grandsons and one great-grandson.
Mother Sherrill was a loving and God-fearing woman who cherished and loved everyone that she encountered. For many years, she was employed at Davidson-Cornelius Daycare where she diligently served and impacted countless children and families up until her retirement. As a faithful servant of the lord, Mother Sherrill was an active member of Bibleway Church #6 in Troutman, NC for 32 years. She served in a variety of roles, including her most recent role as the Senior Mother, which she faithfully served for many years. Mother Sherrill was loved by many as a result of her generosity, love, and words of wisdom to everyone that she encountered. When she was not showing love to her friends and family, she most enjoyed completing puzzles, word searches, bird watching and watching Family Feud.
Up until later in life, she also enjoyed cooking and baking for those around her, gardening, tending to her numerous animals throughout the years and fishing on the lake. The life and legacy of Mother Sherrill will forever be cherished as a result of the example she set on what it truly means to show that I love you, as well as run for Jesus as she would often sing to encourage herself and those around her. In her legacy, she leaves to cherish her fond memories; siblings: Katie Davis, Betty Jean Cornelius (Shack) and Pastor Terry Beatty (Betty Jean Beatty) all of Cornelius, NC. In addition, 12 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, 13 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and god children that she loved dearly.

She attended  Rowan and Cabarrus  County  School  Systems.   She attended several  churches, lastly at Congregational United Church of Christ.  She was employed as a Personal Health Care Provider, and long time employment at Duke Power and also Crown Colony.
Rita was not just the sum of her schooling, and employment, she was an awesome singer (Chaka Khan didn't have nothing on her), she loved singing with her sisters and family, she had a green thumb (very proud of her flowers), she loved sharing her wine talents, famous for her dipped chicken, loved spending time with and taking care of her grandchildren, and always laughing and having fun with family. If you knew her, you know she kept it real and raw. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter Cassandra Turner  Sullivan; siblings, Louise Dolson, Mayhew Turner,  Johnsie Turner, Sarah Jean Rucker,  Betty Bailey,  Paul Turner, and Phyllis  Turner.

Obituary Preview: Ruth Doretha Sanders Rankin, 85 years old, formerly of Glory Road, Mooresville NC, passed away on Tuesday, March 15, 2022 at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center. She was born on March 20, 1936, in Mecklenburg County to the late Ada Blackwelder. At an early age, she joined Bethesda A. M. E. Zion Church, Mooresville, NC. During her formative years she attended Rowan County Schools and ended at the Unity High School. She worked at Fieldcrest Cannon Textile Company for a short time, but the care of her children and family took precedent therefore she became a domestic homemaker.
In November 1970, after many years of marriage she joined the Mount Tabor Presbyterian Church. She immediately began working with the Presbyterian Women and assisted each year with the Vacation Bible School. She loved preparing food for the yearly fall picnics and watching the softball games. She enjoyed cooking, canning and later in life watching her favorite judge shows and SBN. For church or family reunions she would prepare the following dishes: candied yams, yeast rolls, green beans, apple or peach cobbler and her special rendition of sweet potato cobbler. She loved to share her talents with the community and always gave food to neighbors and friends. She was a natural homemaker and carried out an unforgettable touch to everyone she encountered in her presence.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her two daughters: Patricia Ann Rankin and Ernestine Lavon Rankin, sister Lucille Wall.

He was a member of Campbell Missionary Baptist Church where he held the office of a deacon. Donald was an avid racing fan and loved to watch old westerns.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters; Sylvia Kale and Norma Jean Johnson, and brothers; Edward Duff Jr. and Ted Stewart.
Donald met the love of his life Georgia Marie Howell, & they were united in marriage on December 23, 1956. They shared their love and marriage for over 65 years.

Teresa always held high spirits and was loved by so many leaving lasting impressions in all their hearts. She is survived by her father Lloyd Cephas(St,Louis MO) and mother Stella Cephas(Raleigh, NC), her loving husband Dyonete Ward(St. Petersburg, Fl) and mother-in-love Judy Givens and father-in-love David Ward. She was the youngest of seven siblings, leaving behind David(Donna) Cephas(Key West, FL), Page Cephas(Portland, OR), and Helen Cephas(Birgmingham, AL); brother-in-lawsAnthony Givens Jr., and sister-in-law Latonya Givens. Birthing two children she leaves Theresa(AJ) Cephas(Raleigh, NC), and Tony Hunter(Texas) and a host of bonus children whom she acquired over the years. Edith attended Torrence Lytle High School. After high school she went to New York and underwent training in the nursing field. Shorty after nursing training she moved back to North Carolina to help her parents. She also met the LOVE of her life, Mr. Rostus Stinson. Although they had no children, they were able to help raise her disabled baby sisters two children, Mia & Brian of which she loved dearly.
Edith along with her parents in early years attended Torrence Chapel, but moved membership to Union Bethel AME Zion Church after she married her Husband. She was very active in her church serving as head of the Deaconess Board, President of the Usher Board, Superintendent of Sunday School & sang on several Choirs. She loved her Church Family. Ms. Stinson was a Jewel to her family and friends, was always kind, pleasant, and soft spoken. She will be truly missed.
She leaves to cherish fond  memories; Her Niece (Daughter) Mia T. Mrs. Kernes was a graduate of Dunbar High School in Mooresville, NC and was a member of New Life Missionary Baptist Church, where she served on the Deaconess Board, Missionary Board and Senior Choir.  Mrs. Ruth also started, along with her Mother Bolivia Burton Caldwell, the Buds Choir of Jones Chapel Baptist Church in Mooresville, which later grew into the Chanel Choir of Jones Chapel.
Mrs. Kernes was a part of Dunbar Alumni and was the OES Worthy Matron of Eastern Star Association, Mars Chapter #395 of Mooresville, North Carolina.

Henry had a humble spirit and loving heart. He loved his grandchildren and they could never do any wrong. Henry was a great bowler and belonged to several leagues. He sang gospel music with a few quartets. Henry was an avid sports fan, he loved the Atlanta Braves, Carolina Panthers, and the Charlotte Hornets. He especially loved to eat, and drink his favorite coffee. Henry had a special love for his furry friend Coco.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Maggie W. Smith; three brothers, Herbert Smith, Ferman Eugene Smith, and Charles Smith.

G-by attended McDowell County Schools and graduated from Northfork High School in 1968, where he was a member of the Basketball team. He joined the United States Army in 1969, where he served two tours during the Vietnam War earning the Bronze Star, National Defense Services Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with four Bronze Service Stars, Republic of Campaign Ribbon with Device, and the Marksman Badge with Artillery Rifle Bar. After leaving the military, he attended Bluefield State College (BSC).
G-by enjoyed eating (particularly fish). He also enjoyed watching Gunsmoke, Little House on the Prairie, the ID Channel, as well as College and Professional Sports. His favorite football team was the Dallas Cowboys, and his favorite basketball teams were the Golden State Warriors and Charlotte Hornets. He liked listening to K-Love radio station and walking Demi, his pet Doberman. G-by loved chatting with his “homeboys” Buck, Ronnie, Booney, Alphonso, and Red. In addition, he liked chatting with Abe, Keith, Wayne, and John, who were all friends he met after moving to Charlotte, N.C.
G-by is survived by his wife of forty-one years, Marva Cheeks Robinson; four children: Erica Allston (Tracey), Clarissa Cheeks (Tracy), Latisha Cheeks, and James Robinson, Jr.; three grandchildren: Ronell II, Qualaizuyia, and Clarence III; three great-grandchildren: Amiya, Ronell III, and Raelyn Rose, all who reside in Charlotte, N.C. Also left to mourn are his siblings: Patricia Smith, Cynthia Hairston, and Carolyn Saunders all of Washington, D.C.; Diane Gravely (Jerry) of Christiansburg, V.A., Mary Saunders of Bluefield, Va., Paristina Saunders of Rockmart, Ga., Joyce Reynolds (Ray) Clairmont, N.C., Michael Saunders, David Saunders of Washington, D.C., Eddie Collins of Hickory, N.C.; Special Aunts: Jean and Jane Robinson, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.

Marvin Henry Fennell, USAF, Retired.  Marvin was the beloved eldest son of David and Gertrude McFadgen’s 8 children.  He was born on August 6, 1953, in Clinton, NC.  He fought a good fight, but on Saturday, January 8, 2022, God decided to send his Angels to guide Marvin to his heavenly home.
Marvin was educated in Clinton, NC public Schools.  Marvin continued his academic studies at Embry-riddle Aeronautical University.  In 2001 he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Management of Technical Operations.
Marvin went on to serve his country for 24 years.  1974 – 1977 Upper Heyford England; 1977 – 1982 Eglin AFB Florida; 1982 – 1983 Suwon AB Korea; 1983 – 1986 Minot AFB North Dakota; 1986 – 1991 Clark AB Philippines; 1991 – 1992 Kadena AB Japan; 1992 – 1994 Kirtland AFB New Mexico; 1994 – 1996 Osan AB Korea; 1996 – 1998 Luke AFB Arizona.  In 1998 24 years after his career began, Marvin retired from Active Duty.
After retiring from the Airforce, Marvin worked for Mesa Airlines in Phoenix Arizona for 23 years from 1998 – 2021.  Marvin Retired on October 5, 2021 and was recognized for his hard work and outstanding contributions.
Preceding Marvin in death was his brother Reginald McFadgen. Obituary Preview: Emma Rebecca Gaston Sloan was born on September 3, 1919 to Will and Sarah Culp Gaston. She was the fifth child of thirteen and is the last remaining child. She departed this earthly life on December 25th, 2021, for a better one. She is preceded in death by: her parents, her husband - Stanley Sloan Sr. her son - Stanley Sloan Jr. and her daughter-Joanne Sloan Johnson.
She received her education at Smithville school in Cornelius, N.C. and graduated from Torrence Lytle High School in 1939.
She was united in matrimony to Stanley Sloan in September 1940. To this union four children were born. Sometime later, they took in two nieces and a nephew and raised them as their own. She helped raise and care for many of her nieces and nephews, some of them moving into their home for varied amounts of time. She dearly loved her family and her family loved her. To them, she was known by many names, Mother, MaEmma, Muh and Bec.
To help care for her family, she has always worked. She started her professional career at Huntersville Hospital. She also worked for Mecklenburg County schools, several Dry Cleaning companies, and other jobs. She was a Homemaker and Entrepreneur. She retired from the Huntersville Oaks Hospital.
As a child, she joined and was baptized in the AME Zion church. After she married, she joined Huntersville Presbyterian church, which is now New Friendship Presbyterian Church. She worked tirelessly in the church. She was over the young adult Usher Board and a member of the Missionary Circle. She was also a Deacon and the first woman Elder at the church.
Ms. Emma, as she was affectionately called, was a loving, compassionate, nurturing and selfless woman, led by her Christian faith. She loved helping and doing for others. If someone had a need, she was there to help out in whatever capacity was needed.  She often put the needs of others before her own. Her neighborhood and community were very important to her. She was very involved in many community organizations and was often a founding member. These included the Huntersville Bible Club, the Homemakers Club, the Golden Peacemakers Club and her beloved Senior Citizens Club. Because there were no organized sports for girls in the early 70s, she formed and coached a local girls softball team, piling them in the bed of her truck and traveling all over the county to play. She is most affectionately known as the “Snowball Lady”. For over 60 years, she and her children, then grandchildren, would travel throughout the neighborhoods in Huntersville and surrounding areas selling snowballs.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughters: Bettye Phillips of Huntersville, NC, Sallie Brown, Mary Sloan and Mazella McDowell of Charlotte, NC. Grandchildren: Ragina Phillips (Houston, TX), Thomasenia Phillips, Raymond Phillips Jr, (Huntersville, NC) Perry Brown, Jason Phillips (Montina), Timothy Johnson, Michael Johnson, Kimberly Johnson, Debra Cherry, Denise McDowell and Mimi Rogers (Charlotte, NC): 19 Great Grandchildren, 16 Great-Great Grandchildren, Sister-in-Law: Pauline Gaston (Virginia Beach, VA) and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
MaEmma, Ms. Emma, Muh, Mother or Mrs. Sloan, whatever name you knew her by, loved everyone and everyone loved her. Anyone who spoke with her automatically became a friend. No matter who you were, where you’d been or what you’d done, she believed everyone deserved kindness, love and respect.
When you think of her, don’t let it be with sadness. Remember her for her joyous spirit, her wonderful sense of humor, her great love of people and life, her dutifulness, and her humility. Perhaps, these were her secrets to such a long life.
