He departed this life on Saturday March 23, 2024 in Richmond, VA. Mond was preceded in death by his grandparents John and Maxine Rhodes, Herbert and Martha Winfield, the mother of his children Amanda Ahern and his 2 best friends who were like brothers, Daryl Gauldin and Matt Brown, and a host of family members.
Mond was educated by Dinwiddie County Public Schools. He was very friendly and had a smile that would light up a room. A quiet man he was also a jokester and an avid fan of the 49er’s.
Mond enjoyed being outside. He worked for M&W Construction and P.S. Roofing. Obituary Preview: Alvin Leron Jones , 65, of Petersburg, VA passed away peacefully on March 10, 2024 at VCU Medical Center, surrounded by his family. Alvin was originally from Dinwiddie County and was a beloved son, father and friend. He was born on May 11, 1958 in Dinwiddie County to Melvin F. Jones and Lola R Jones.
Alvin was proceeded in death by his brother Glenn W Jones. Alvin was educated at Dinwiddie County Public Schools and graduated high school with the class of 1977. In 1978 Alvin joined the military. He continued his military status with Bellwood. Alvin later furthered, his education obtaining his HVAC electrician, plumbing, and refrigeration certificate with John Tyler Community College. He worked at Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital for 16 years. Alvin was a jack of all trades, ranging from mechanic work, carpentry, gardening, fishing, and hunting. He was a Hall of Famer in high school, playing baseball and football. He later played for the Mason Town Expos.
Alvin leaves behind to cherish his memories, his loving and devoted daughter, Nicole L. Jones; parents, Melvin F. Jones Sr. and Lola Jones; one brother Melvin Jones Jr. (Ruby); two sisters Philistine Jones Whitaker and Carolyn D. Jones; nieces Charlene and LaShanda; four nephews Chris, Javars, Quinton Daquan; one great-niece, one great-nephew, two uncles, and three aunts and a host of cousins and friends.
Alvin was known for his unwavering kindness, infectious laughter and gentle spirit. He touched the lives of many with his generosity and willingness to lend a helping hand. He was passionate about gardening and enjoyed feeding others while spending time with family. Alvin knew the Lord and shared a relationship with God. Wanda graduated from Nottoway County High School, Nottoway, Virginia with the Class of 1977. Obituary Preview: Vivien Leigh Newton, 81 of Dinwiddie County VA, passed away peacefully on November 15, 2023. She was born January 15, 1942, in Norlina North Carolina, to the late Vernell Norris and Velma Moss Norris.
Vivien had a fulfilling career, working at A.P. Bakery Richmond VA, Phillip Morris, Reynolds Metal. Waitressing work, secretary at Kenneth Newton’s garage Richmond VA. Worked with her husband Mark Newton to run and operate Marks Automotive Richmond VA, from 1992 to 2019. She was dedicated and passionate about her work, leaving a lasting impact on those she worked with.
Vivien attended Norlina Baptist Church in Warrington North Carolina. Vivien also took piano lessons with the Norlina School teacher when she was 10. Her brother Ed Norris would also go with her. When their mother worked at the school kitchen across the street Vivien was given 50 cents a week to be in charge of the house and kids. Then with the money she earned she would take her brother Ed to the movies on the weekend. It was a small town with one traffic light and the theater.
In her free time, she loved to knit and crochet afghans and dolls and small Christmas ornaments. She shared her crafts with many friends and Family. She found solace and joy in creating beautiful pieces with her hands.
Vivien is survived by her loving husband of 37 years Mark Newton, her step daughter Michelle Newton of Florida, her son Thomas Crank of Blackstone VA, daughter Penny Crook Shanks Hillsville VA, her brother Ed Norris Chester VA, her aunt Bessie Brown of North Carolina, and granddaughters Isabella Moment, Jalissa Moment and Kiyah Rogers. She was preceded in death by her father Vernell Norris, her mother Velma Moss Norris, her sister Dorthy Ray Norris and her brother Robert Norris.

Obituary Preview: Mrs. Barbara Ann Morgan Freeman, 69, of Stony Creek, VA suddenly slipped into eternal rest on Tuesday October 3, 2023. To her family she was affectionately known as “Tay Tay”. This name was given to her by her beloved niece Lakeisha as she formed her first words.
She was born Barbara Ann Davis on February 12, 1954 to the late Edna Mae Davis and the late Purcell Madison Sr. Barbara was raised by her devoted grandparents, the late Nellie A. and Theodore R. Davis. She was also preceded in death by her sister Connie Dagner and brothers Walter Sellars Sr., Chris Madison and Mark Madison.
Barbara was educated in the Dinwiddie County Public School system. She was baptized at an early age and joined the Shiloh Baptist Church of Dinwiddie VA.
In her early years Barbara married Alexander Morgan also of Dinwiddie County. To this union they bought into this world their first and only daughter Angela Morgan. Barbara and her daughter had a very close relationship and were inseparable. You very rarely saw one without the other. They were more than mother and daughter, they were sisters and best friends.
In her later years Barbara married Darnell Freeman of Stony Creek, VA. From this union she gained four sons and four fur babies. Together they would share their love of farming, fishing, drag racing, and vacationing. Her other hobbies were playing bingo, playing bid whist, cooking, shopping, planting flowers, going to the flea market and spending time with her family. Barbara was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan and a dedicated member of the Mckenney Cruisers.
Barbara only had one biological child but she was a mother to many family members and friends.
Barabra had a loving and nurturing spirit with a soft spot for the elderly. Not only was she devoted to her loved ones but also to her job. She loved to cook and was able to make a career out of it. She was well known for her famous fried chicken, potato salad, homemade pies and cakes.
Christmas was her favorite time of year and there was no expense sparred. She and her daughter would spend many days and weeks decorating the yard for onlookers to enjoy. She was no stranger to hard work.
Combining her love of cooking and caring for the elderly, Barbara gave 31 years of her life to Spring Oaks Assisted Living Facility (formerly known as Mayfair House). She never missed one day of work and had no plans of retiring.
She leaves to cherish her memories her devoted husband Darnell Freeman; loving and devoted daughter Angela Morgan; sons devoted Tony Moore (Ann), devoted Timothy Freeman, Antwain Freeman and Damion Freeman; sisters Sheila Malone (Archer), Wendy Malone (Raymond), Elsie Vaughn and Pamela Madison; brothers Lorenzo Clark and Purcell Madison Jr.; granddaughters Timeka and Timael Freeman; several aunts and uncles, devoted Emmitt Davis, Jr. (Queen); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. Obituary Preview: Clara Bonita Hawkins Fitzgerald,59, of Mckenney Hwy, Mckenney, VA peacefully went home to be with the Lord in eternal life on September 5, 2023 at Southside Regional Medical Center. The third child of four children she was born on August 8, 1964. Bonnie accepted Christ at an early age and joined the Shiloh Baptist Church-Dinwiddie in Darvills, VA. She was a member of the Shiloh Baptist Youth Choir and also a member of the Nurses Ministry of Shiloh Baptist Church.
She graduated from Dinwiddie County High School in 1982. After graduation she worked at Daltons Convience Store in Blackstone until she became employed at Central State Hospital in Petersburg in March 1990.
She worked as a Psychiatric Aide until she decided to go to school to become an LPN. Upon completion of her LPN training she continued to work at CSH. Being encouraged by her mother and co-workers she furthered her education to improve her career status. She went back to school, this time to become a registered nurse (RN). She enjoyed working with the clientele and her co-workers at CSH. She worked there for 33 years.
She is preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents; her father Lloyd R. Hawkins Sr.; her brother Lloyd R. Hawkins Jr.; 3 paternal aunts; 3 paternal uncles; 3 maternal great-aunts and 5 maternal great-uncles.
Bonnie leaves to cherish her precious memories her husband Robert Fitzgerald of Mckenney, VA; daughter Bonita Natasha Hawkins of Petersburg, VA; son Michael Morgan (Hope) of Kenbridge VA; four grandchildren Teondra Hawkins, Mikaela Wyche, Michael Morgan, Jr. and Xavier Morgan; mother Alice Loretta Atkins of Mckenney, VA; five sisters Alice H. Scott (John) of Franklinton, NC, Patricia Winfield (Anthony) of Memphis, TN, Katrina Hawkins of Mckenney, Shanika Hawkins of New York and Victoria Hawkins of Youngstown, OH; one brother Joshua Hawkins-Hill (Sophia) of Pensacola, FL; four aunts Virginia Hawkins of Mckenney, VA, Rosa Jackson, Disputanta, VA, Betty Hawkins of Maryland and Joan Williams of New York; one great-aunt Annie P. Coleman of Mckenney, VA; one great-uncle Herbert Smith of California. She also leaves a mother-in-law, 3 sisters-in-law, and 2 brothers-in-law. Bonita has a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends to share her memories including Mrs. Lillie P. Coleman, Mrs. B. Obituary Preview: Thank you all again for coming. A Lot You know him as Keith. Those closest to him know him as KJ and the world knows him as 804 nano. He is a beautiful soul, someone who loves the world and the people in it. Someone who didn't need validation because the lord gave it to him. In the Old Testament Numbers 33:53 says take possession of the land and settle in it, for I have given you the land to possess. I say this to say he did what he came to do. At thirteen Keith Morgan won the county spelling bee. KJ started playing drums at an early age. Then there was the saxophone, keyboard, base and lead guitar. Keith Morgan earned his title as minister and became a businessman, Man of His Own LLC, Heavenly Hands at the age of 14 in 2004. Music was his life at three years old. His mother Tracey Chandler witnessed him pulling pots and pans from under the sink using them as drums. He loved kids. He involved himself in anything that made his community better. Nano said “I say what I mean and I mean what I say”. He is and always will be a God fearing man before anything else. A lot of you all looked at him as someone who had the key to doors of success in a literal sense. He did have the key, the key that allowed him to be here with us on earth, his heart was the key to the kingdom. I don't want you all leaving today singing your “what ifs” and i want you to all know it is nobody's fault. You will never be far from us. DeLois was baptized at an early age at Shiloh Baptist Church in Dinwiddie County and served on the Usher Board for many years. She was a member of the Gospel Chorus as well.
DeLois graduated from Dinwiddie Training and work at Fort Pickett, and Craddock &Terry for many years.
She was proceeded in death by her parents Valton and Clara Malone, a sister Blanch Elizabeth Malone, a brother James Edward Malone and sister in law Eliza Malone. DeLois leaves to cherish her memories a niece, Wanda Smith of Henrico Va, and a great niece, Kaylan Smith of Henrico Va, Ruth Harris of Ford,Va; Rev. Obituary Preview: Bruce Lasswell passed away on March 2, 2023 in Richmond at the age of 75. He spent his final days surrounded by family. True to character, he told stories and gave advice before falling into a peaceful sleep.
Born in 1947, Bruce lived with his parents and brothers in Germany, before returning to the U.S. and graduating with Colonial Heights High School’s Class of 1965. In 1970 he graduated from the University of Virginia and he immediately began service with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as a First Lieutenant. In 1975 he earned an advanced degree from VCU. During his civilian career, Bruce worked as an Operations Research Analyst until retirement. He volunteered with the Boy Scouts of America for the last 23 years, eventually receiving the Silver Beaver Award, the highest and most prestigious honor awarded to a volunteer.
Bruce is survived by his wife, Sharon, and their two children Sarah (and husband Andrew) and John; his first wife, Juanita, and their daughter Megan (and husband Nick); and his brother Andrew (and wife Paula). His parents and brother Patrick preceded him in death.

Betty met and married William Streat, Sr. and to that union came 8 children.
She was preceded in death by the love of her life – her husband, her father and mother, a daughter, her twin sister, and four brothers.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents and in-laws Andrew W. Jackson, Sr. (Celia Mae), three brothers, Isham Winfield (Annie), Clarence Winfield, Charlie “Mack” Winfield, Sr. and five sisters, Julie Ann Winfield, Maxine Winfield Johnson Rhodes
(Albert), Genevia Winfield Perrear, Virginia Winfield Lewis (Herbert) and Bernice Winfield Brown (Charles), James Brackett, Sr., William Thomas Jackson (Joan), Irving Jackson (Rosetta), Margaret Brinkley (Sam) and Helena Jackson.
She accepted Christ as her personal savior at Mount Poole Baptist Church, Ford, Virginia. Mary moved her membership to Hickory Run Baptist Church in Rawlings, Virgina and subsequently to Lovely Zion Baptist Church also in Rawlings, Virginia where she was a dedicated and faithful member until her death.
A woman of faith, who was known for saying “What God has for you is for you” or "My God will fix it after a while”. If you knew her you knew she loved singing. Mary was a member of the Lovely Zion Baptist Church Senior Choir and Women’s Choir where she enjoyed singing songs of praise. Mary loved working in her flowers, cooking, talking to family and friends on the phone, sewing and caring for others. She loved her family dearly and would always put their needs before hers, a mother, auntie, friend and caregiver to many.
She leaves to cherish and is survived by her husband of 61 years Andrew W. Jackson, Jr.; Patricia Harris (Henry); Herbert and Bruce Winfield, Marvin Brown; Three sisters-in-law, Bertha Brackett, Mildred Winfield and Gertrude Winfield; One brother-in-law John D. Jackson; step-grandchildren, Courtney and Olivia Harris, a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. A special thanks and recognition to Josephine Campbell and Joyce Skinner, numerous family members and friends for all of the love, devotion and sacrifice during our time of need.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Monday, May 2, 2022 at Lovely Zion Baptist Church, 28 Lovely Zion Rd., Rawlings, Virginia 23876, Virginia with the pastor Rev. James E. Geter Sr., officiating. Burial will be in the Brackett Family cemetery. We are asking for all who are attending to assemble at the Church on the day of the service.
