Susan Kaye Williams - July 05, 1948 - January 04, 2024

Departed: 01/04/2024 (Viroqua)
Obituary Preview: Susan Kaye (Hermann) Williams, age 75, of rural Viroqua, WI, passed away peacefully on January 4, 2024, at Soldiers Grove Health Services. Born on July 5, 1948, in Portage, WI, at Divine Saviors Hospital, Susan radiated love and kindness throughout her life.
Susan was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Roland Dean Williams, with whom she was united in marriage on August 29, 1970, in Rockford, IL; her cherished daughter, Anita Sue; and her mother, Anita Lucille Hermann, who passed away when Susan was just two years and two months old. Raised with care by her grandmother Clara Hermann and her aunt and uncle, Albert and Ruth Hermann, Susan's early life was steeped in family love and support.
Her formative years were spent attending Hilldrop Grade School in rural Dalton, WI, and she later graduated from high school in Cambria, WI, in 1966. Her work ethic was evident early on as she began her career at the Michigan Fruit Factory of Cambria. Post-marriage, she worked for a collection agency alongside her husband, Rollie in Berlin, WI. The couple's adventures in employment took them from Beloit, WI, where Susan worked at Beloit Fastenal and the Freeman Shoe Company, then, in 1978, to Hustisford, WI, where they briefly owned the Hustisford Inn, discovering that was not the trade for them. In 1979, they moved to a farm in rural De Soto, and Susan worked at NCR for 10 years. While on the farm, Rollie became ill with a lung disease, so they left the farm, moving to Viroqua, to the Vernon Trailer Park, and in 1985, to a home in the country. Eventually, Susan found her calling in providing home health care, a role she passionately dedicated herself to for 13 and a half years.
Susan's life was a testament to her faith, as she was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith. Her belief in prayer and her love for her Lord and Savior were cornerstones of her existence, guiding her through life's challenges with unwavering resolve. Her family, particularly her son, Chad (Kristi) Williams, and her adored grandsons, Carter, Connor, Carson, and Caden Williams, were the heart of her world. Susan was a constant presence in their lives and she loved them dearly. Susan also looked forward to visits with her step-children Scott (Mary) Williams and Teresa (William) Williams along with her step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A woman of many interests, Susan had a passion for decorating her home for all occasions, creating a warm and inviting space for those she loved. Autumn was her favorite time of year, marked by an array of scarecrows and pumpkins that adorned her residence. Her joy in the country life extended to the outdoors, where she took great pride in caring for her home and yard. Susan's culinary skills were renowned among family and friends, thanks to her vast collection of cookbooks and eagerness to try new recipes. She also had many companions with whom she enjoyed dining out, going out for breakfast and seeking out rummage sales.
Animals held a special place in Susan's heart, especially her dogs, who were her loyal companions. She also found pleasure in playing cards, enjoying bingo, and indulging in the simple delight of feeding and watching the squirrels and birds. Above all, Susan was a devoted caregiver, proudly looking after her ailing husband with a strength and tenderness that inspired all who knew her.
Described as faith-filled, loving, and kind, Susan's legacy is one of love and selfless devotion. Her presence enriched the lives of those around her, and her memory will continue to be a source of comfort and inspiration. As we bid farewell to Susan, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a spirit that will forever be cherished.
