Obituary Preview: Josephine “Joann” Blacka Downs, of Farmington, CT, passed away peacefully on May 9, 2024. Born in Plantsville, CT, Josephine was the first-born of Walter and Anna (Zajac) Blacka. She graduated from Southington High School and quickly went to work at Barnes Group in Bristol, CT.
Josephine married the love of her life, Robert L. Downs, on August 23, 1958. Together they moved to Bristol, CT where they built a beautiful life. Josephine worked at Barnes Group for nearly 20 years in several positions in Payroll and Engineering. However, the highlight of her career was her daily lunch dates with Robert as he was employed at Barnes Group, as well.
Josephine was a devoted and loving, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her husband Robert of 66 years, her sons Roger Downs (Connie) of Dandridge TN, and Brian Downs (Mary) of Simsbury, CT.
Her devotion continued to expand with the arrival of her beloved grandchildren, Shane R. Downs (Jacqueline) of Waterbury, CT, the late Brett R. Downs, Brian H. Downs of Atlanta, GA, Kevin J. Downs (Laura) of Atlanta, GA, and Emily Downs Brzozowski (Thomas) of Cleveland, OH and four great grandchildren, Brett Downs of Naugatuck, CT, Damon Downs of Milford, CT, Jackson and Savannah Downs of Waterbury, CT.
Josephine is also survived by her sister, Catherine Mackenzie of Bristol, CT, and her family.
Josephine was never happier then when the family was gathered for a birthday, holiday, or summer picnic. She was a talented cook and baker and was known for her exquisite cookie trays and carrot cakes. When she wasn’t busy preparing delicious food, she was busy sewing Halloween costumes, cozy pajamas for her grandchildren, or beautiful window treatments for her loved ones. Her handiwork was on display everywhere you looked bringing warmth and beauty. Her instinct to nurture was not limited to her family as Josephine was equally talented in the garden. She took great pleasure in her garden, growing exquisite roses, clematis, and lilacs. Her instinct was always to bring beauty to her home and family; inside and out!
Josephine enjoyed over thirty years of retirement with Robert. During that time, she fulfilled her dreams of exploring the world. She was able to visit much of Europe and the Far East, collecting memories to be shared for years. Although she traveled extensively, some of her happiest adventures were hot air balloon rides on beautiful mornings in Connecticut.
The family would like to thank the staff and administration at McLean Health Center in Simsbury, CT for the care, kindness and compassion that was provided to Josephine during her time there.
Josephine will be buried at the Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Plantsville, CT at the convenience of the family. The Vincent Funeral Home of Simsbury is caring for the arrangements. She was born February 20, 1994 in Torrington, beloved daughter of Lindajean (Lewis) Betances of Canton and George Betances of Glastonbury, CT. She was a graduate of Explorations, she had Many Diplomas from Child and Adult Nutrition and Health. She continue her education by receiving certificates as a Phlebotomy technician and certified as a Cosmologist With many more degrees in various interests. She was a Bartender at Crystal Bees in Southington. EmmaMae loved spending time outdoors hiking, going to the beach with Elijah and outdoor concert venues. She loved being with her friends and her son. She was also known as Mae.
In addition to her parents, she leaves her beloved son, Elijah Blue Raymond of Canton, Nick Raymond of Canton her stepfather Michael Rembock of Canton, her siblings, Roxanne Betances, Jesse Betances and Sabrina Betances, several cousins including Peter Lewis and Krystle Lewis and many aunts and uncles, her favorite Auntie Nancy and her Uncle Tim. She was predeceased by her cousin, Brittany Lewis, her maternal grandparents, Robert and Judith Lewis and her paternal grandmother, Illuminata Betances.
There will be a Celebration of Life in the near future to be Announced.

Helen Bierut - Unknown - May 05, 2024

Obituary Preview: Helen M. Bierut passed away peacefully at the age of 101 years, on May 5, 2024 at Avon Health Center, where she resided for the past two years. Helen was born April 15, 1923 in Burlington, CT to Julius and Bertha Muzynski, and was the youngest of seven children. She lived her whole life in Burlington and Collinsville before moving to Avon Health Center. She graduated from Canton High School in 1941 and married Adolph Bierut in August 1944. They had two sons, Kenneth and David.
Helen was a devoted mother who saw that her sons had the best she could give them. After years of staying at home to raise them, Helen went to work at Hamilton Standard until retiring after 25 years. After her retirement she spent time with her grandchildren, providing before and after school supervision and transporting them to the many sports and explorer camps during summer vacation while their parents worked. She was a caring person who was always helping both family and friends.
Helen loved vacationing at the Connecticut shore with her family, attending her grandchildrens school concerts, musicals, soccer and Little League games and watching the UConn womens basketball games. She spent many hours crocheting afghans and prayer shawls, and knitting hats and blankets for newborns in the nursery at St. Francis Hospital.
Helen is survived by her son David of Torrington CT, her grandchildren Brian Bierut of San Diego CA, Michael Bierut of Canton CT, Devon Bierut of Los Angeles CA, Kelly Frauenhofer and her husband Dave of Burlington CT, and her daughter-in-law Ann Bierut of Canton, CT. She was predeceased by her parents, brothers and sister, her husband Adolph and her son Ken.
The family would like to thank the nursing staff at Avon Health Center, who helped make her last two years as comfortable as possible. They encouraged her to participate in activities to keep her busy and later comforted her during her last weeks.

He was born July 15, 1955, in Jersey City NJ, the loving son of Antoinette (Minervini) Rue of Granby and the late Charles Sterner Rue Jr. Bill graduated in 1973 from Simsbury High School before receiving a BS degree in Accounting at Central Connecticut State University where he was a member of Sigma Zeta Chi Fraternity. He received a master's in business administration at The University of Harford in 1989, Bill worked for Connecticut General Life Insurance Company (CIGNA) in different divisions over a 40-year career, retiring as a Healthcare Analyst in 2016. He was a member of Simsbury United Methodist Church
He enjoyed visiting local places for early morning breakfast and spending time with his fraternity brothers, family, and grandchildren. He loved working on a train set and his interest in coins and stamps. He was an avid New York Yankees fan and ran Saturday bingo at McLean’s Home for 7 years as “Bingo Bill”. He was proud to be a Hartford Courant paper carrier and won a 3-day trip to Washington, DC. He loved telling corny jokes and making people laugh.
In addition to his loving wife of 43 years and his mother he leaves his daughter Laurie Sellitto and husband Paul of Simsbury; his son Robert Rue of Farmington; his brother Richard and wife Kathy Rue of Swanzey, NH; his grandchildren, Shane, Jaidan, Liam and Giavanna Sellitto of Simsbury along with an Aunt and Uncle in Texas and a niece, nephews and cousins from New Hampshire, Connecticut, New Jersey, Nevada and Texas.
Visitation will be at Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow Street on Saturday May 11, 2024, from 10:00 am to11:00 followed by a funeral service at Simsbury United Methodist Church, 799 Hopmeadow Street at 11:30 am. The Burial and Celebration of Life will be private.

Stanley Michael Krzanowski - January 28, 1942 - May 02, 2024

Obituary Preview: Stanley Michael Krzanowski, 82, of Canton, beloved husband of Diane (LaBrecque) Krzanowski died Thursday, May 2, 2024 at John Dempsey Hospital in Farmington. He was born January 28, 1942 in Hartford, son of the late Joseph and Anna (Szydlo) Krzanowski and had been a life long resident of Canton. After serving with the U.S. Air Force, Stan was employed at Lasher Inc Industrial Pipe, Valve and Fitting, and Independent Pipe Supply prior to his retirement.
Stan was a native of Canton and his name has been synonymous with the Canton Little League for the past 46 years having served as a Coach, past President, and Board of Directors. As a member of the Board of Directors the Girls Softball program was developed. Stan’s motto was “instead of talking about it, just get it done” and he always found a way to do just that. Stan was well organized, quiet and never sought public attention. He was also a volunteer with Canton Youth Services Bureau , Canton Community of Concern and was instrumental in re-creating the Teen Center for Canton Youth, "The Cave”.
He was awarded in 2013 by the National Child Labor Committee The Lewis Hine Award for his volunteer efforts for the youth of Canton, In 2023 the Town of Canton and Canton Little League organization named the new Canton Little League Girls Softball complex at Canton High School in his honor. Also in 2023 he was the recipient of one of the CT Sports Media Alliance Awards and numerous local awards for his continued devotion and service for Canton Youth Programs, along with many other local awards through the years.
Most of all he loved spending time with his family and in later years being the greatest Grandpa/Papa to his three grandchildren who gave him so much joy.
In addition to his wife, Diane, of 57 years, he leaves his son, Stephen Krzanowski and wife Chantale of Collinsville; his daughter Amy Krzanowski Maliszewski and husband Ryan of East Hartland; his brother. Dr. Joseph Krzanowski, Jr. and wife Patricia of Tampa, FL; his grandchildren, Kate and Cody Maliszewski and Emma Krzanowski, his sisters in law: Raymonde Daigle and husband Edward, Judi LaBrecque and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Mary Krzanowski Hamilton and a brother, Dr. Edward Krzanowski, his wife Karen and their two young children, David and Christine.

Jane K. McDonough - November 04, 1929 - April 24, 2024

Obituary Preview: Jane Kingman McDonough, 94, of Simsbury, CT, was born in Dover, New Hampshire, to Bradford and E. Jane Kingman, and raised in Massachusetts and Kansas City. Her father was the headmaster of the Pembroke Country Day School, and she attended with fellow student John Kander.
Upon graduation, Jane attended the National College of Education and later worked as a pre-school teacher in Brooklyn, NY. It was in New York that Jane met her future husband, Peter McDonough, traveling by train on Thanksgiving weekend. They lived in Brooklyn for a few years and then moved to Rye Colony where they welcomed their son Timothy and two years later, son, Mark. The family later moved to Ridgefield, Connecticut where they raised their family.
Jane was very dedicated to her work with the League of Women Voters and the importance of everyone taking part in the privilege of voting. She had a love for animals and her dogs, Rusty, Sandy and Molly.
Jane and Peter moved to San Mateo, CA for Peter’s work at Bank of America and later retired to her beloved Durham, New Hampshire, where she was surrounded by family, including her sister Ann, and her Tuttle cousins, owners of one of the oldest family farms in America, dating back to 1632.
In later years, Jane and Peter moved back to Simsbury, Connecticut to be closer to family and her three treasured grandchildren, Katie, Kevin and Ryan McDonough.
She was predeceased by her parents Bradford and Jane, husband Peter, her sister Ann K. Valpey and brother-in-law Daniel, brother Bradford S. Kingman, and sister-in-law Christine, brother-in-law Bill and sisters-in-law Nancy McDonough and Carolyn McDonough. Jane is survived by Tim (Natalie), Niskayuna, NY and Mark (Kelly), Simsbury, CT, grandchildren Katie of Salt Lake City, UT and Kevin and Ryan McDonough, Simsbury, CT, nephews Stephen Valpey, Philip, Brad and David Kingman and niece Caroline Hartranft, and many McDonough nieces and nephews.

She was born August 27, 1943 in Hartford, daughter of the late Emil and Evelyn (Zaugg) Schramm and had lived in Granby prior to moving to Collinsville over 50 years ago. She was married to the late Donald D. Dziedzic before his passing in 2004. Carol was an Administrative Assistant for The Hartford Insurance Company for many years and was inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa with Tunxis Community College in 1992. She was a member of the Bakerville Church for many years before being a member of the Four Square Church in Torrington. She participated in the National Day of Prayer along with organizing a book club with her church, loved all music and especially enjoyed playing the guitar. Carolyn loved all animals, was immensely patriotic, and had a deep love for Jesus.
Carol is survived by: her two children Amy Jane Dziedzic and Michael D. Dziedzic, her grandsons Dylan, Daniel and Devin Dziedzic, her nieces Susan Keiper and wife Christine, Sandy Freund and her husband Edward, her brother-in-law John D’Orio, her nephews John D’Orio and his wife Janine, David D’Orio and his wife Sahar, Chris D’Orio and his wife Regina, David Dziedzic and his wife Marsha, Wayne Dziedzic and his wife Palma. Her great-nieces and great-nephews: Donna Wainman, Crystal Gilbar, Alicia Gagnon, Ashlee Lynn Gagnon Shay Gilbar, Peter Gilbar, Lily D’Orio, Matt D’Orio, Ryan D’Orio, Sarah D’Orio, Jason Dziedzic, Karrie Anne Kent, Valerie Heist, Brandon Tydlaska-Dziedzic, and Joey Dziedzic. Her dear friends and long standing neighbors Debbie and Mark Altschwager and Chuck and Karen Fillian. Her closest friends Sally and Ken Young, Judy and Ken Byrne, Angie and Ron Boratko and many more friends. Along with her sweet kitty Middy. Justine Hall - Unknown - April 18, 2024

Obituary Preview: Justine (Zaverton) Hall passed away on April 18, 2024, in Naples, Florida, at the age of 78.
Justine was born on July 25, 1945, in Hartford, Connecticut. She had a bright personality that shone through in all her interactions. Whether it was her early career as a Retail Buyer at Sage Allen stores, hosting legendary parties, or spending time at her favorite beach spots like Hawks Nest Beach, Justine was always smiling and enjoying life to the fullest.
She had a deep love for the beach, particularly the Connecticut shoreline, Narragansett, Rhode Island, Martha's Vineyard and Captiva Island, Florida. Justine was known for her open house policy, welcoming family friends and neighbors with open arms, and ensuring everyone left with a full belly. She dedicated her time to helping others in the community through various activities such as Meals-On-Wheels, Girl Scouts, supporting local summer camps, working as a Special Education Teacher Assistant in the Granby school system, and teaching at Creative Learning Pre-School.
She was instrumental in the financial success of Precision Automotive as Bookkeeper which Dale opened in Simsbury in 1975. The successful automotive machine shop and Dale’s racing career took a lot of time away from each other, but at the same time were their greatest success and proof how strong their love and support of each other was.
Together, Dale and Justine built their dream beach house on Chappaquiddick Island, Martha’s Vineyard. There they enjoyed countless vacations and memories over many years with family and great friends, and Justine was always proud to serve her famous stuffed clams that Dale dug up in the bay.
Later in their marriage, they took to the road RVing across the country and making the best of remaining good years Dale had with her. She followed through on her wedding vows to Dale and took the best care of him during his final years. Her giving heart and unconditional love truly shone during this time.
Justine’s greatest light in her life was her grand-daughter Ella Sea. After a long and fulfilling life in CT, Justine spent her last three years by the beach with her daughter Lisa’s family including Ella in Southwest Florida. Any photo with Ella was the smile that we all will remember her with.
Justine is survived by her son, Scott Hall, and wife Sandy, and step-daughter Mallery of Ledyard, CT; daughter, Lisa Gruner, and husband Jason Gruner, and granddaughter Ella Sea of Naples, FL, step-kids Jason and Sarah Gruner of Martha’s Vineyard, MA; brother, William Zaverton, and wife Karen of Westbrook, CT. She was preceded in death by her mother, Olga (Wladuk) Zaverton; father, William Zaverton; and husband, Dale Hall.
A celebration of life gathering will be held at Vincents Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury Connecticut on Saturday, June 15th from 10 am to 12 noon and proceeded by food, drinks, laughter, and great stories for those who would like to join at the Maple Tree Café at 781 Hopmeadow Street, a short walk away. Much like life at the beach, please come in casual, bright clothes to honor her.
Justine will be deeply missed by all who know her, but her bright spirit and loving nature will be cherished in our memories forever.

Kim was the Owner and Operator of Quality Interiors for over 20 years. She was an advocate for animals but especially for her beloved dogs Carly and Cosmo. Kim was an active member of the Congamond South Pond Assoc. She was a kindhearted soul, with a sense of humor that would brighten any room. Her laugh was infectious and her love of her family and friends was immeasurable.
She is survived by her wife of 15 years Annie Griskus; her sisters Lynne Paoltta and her husband Anthony of Granby, Sandy Vincent of Eastham, MA and Kathy Kane and Paul Scata, Canton, CT, as well as her brother-in-law, Frank Griskus and wife Marie of Stockton, CA. She also leaves behind nephews Jason Paoletta and wife Lisa, Brian Vincent and wife Becka and great nephews and nieces Hailey, Jaelyn and Justin Paoletta and Sadie and Bowen Vincent. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her brothers-in-law, Mark Vincent and John Kane. Obituary Preview: Robertine (Cyr) Duffy, 92, of Bristol, CT wife of the late Owen L. Duffy, died peacefully on Saturday, April 13, 2024 at Avon Health Center. She was born on August 31, 1931 in Van Buren, Maine to Robert and Antoinette Cyr and the oldest of 13 children. She is predeceased by her husband Owen, her son Philip, daughter Darleen and grandson Aaron. Bobbie moved to Hartford, CT in the early 1950’s where she met her husband, Owen Duffy. They married and moved to Bristol, CT to raise their family. Bobbie was a homemaker and mother of 5 who enjoyed gardening, reading and strolling to the neighborhood yard sales to visit and strike up a bargain or 2. While she spent her last few months at Avon Health Center, she called Shady Oaks Assisted Living home for over 6 years. The family would like to thank the staff at both facilities for the care, love and respect that Bobbie received while living there.
She is survived by her daughters Maureen Arnone, Janice McCay and Susan Chase along with her 6 grandchildren - Carey, Michael, Derek, Sarah, Jacob and Nathan as well as 3 great grandchildren - Natalia, Gabrielle and Michael.

Harry A. Cooke - July 12, 1927 - April 12, 2024

Obituary Preview: Harry adored his wife Hazel Schuurman Cooke of 63 years; they were inseparable and led the family on remarkable adventures. Family was primary to Harry A. Cooke and he shared his love for adventure with his family and friends, as he traveled 50 states, including Alaska and also traveled in the Caribbeans, Europe and Canada. He was an avid cyclist, canoeist, hiker, and loved camping. He was a passionate woodworker,
creating so many beautiful projects, including his home in Simsbury, CT and a second home in Whitingham, VT.
He passed these many passions down to his four children, Nancy, Richard, Robert and Dale, along with their spouses, Bill Bunnell, Elaine Cooke, Wendy Cooke and Carol Moore. He enjoyed his five grandchildren Heather and husband Brandon Munson, Jesse and wife Devlin, Jenna and husband Cody Berg, Jason and wife Lindsey, Melissa and husband Adam Freeman and Conner Cooke and seven great grandchildren Isaac, Levi and Zuzu, Ari, Kinley and Laiken and Caleb.
He was stationed on the USS Orion during WW II, on a Navy submarine tender in the Pacific. He was a graduate of Hartford State Technical College with a degree in Mechanical Design. He enjoyed a long career with Kaman Aerospace in Research and Development and then Hamilton Standard Space and Sea Systems working on the space suit and submarine projects.
A memorial service to celebrate Harry’s remarkable life will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, July13th at Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury followed by burial with Military Funeral Honors at the Simsbury Cemetery. Throughout her life, Barbara remained steadfastly connected to her roots, carrying with her the indomitable spirit of the city that never sleeps. Her love for fashion, exquisite jewelry, and an innate sense of fabulousness were emblematic of her personality, earning her the title of the "Cool Aunt" among her 26 nieces and nephews.
Barbara's commitment to her community was unwavering. She was a beacon of light in Simsbury, Connecticut, where she dedicated her time and efforts to various organizations, including the Simsbury Women's Club, Simsbury Republican Women, McLean Auxiliary, Meals on Wheels, and St. Mary's Church. Most notably, she was named a Simsbury Home Town Hero in June of 2007. Her involvement was not merely a duty but a reflection of her genuine care and compassion for those around her. Prior to her retirement in 1991, Barbara graced the corridors of Lincoln National Insurance Company, where she served with distinction in Human Resources. Her professionalism and warmth endeared her to colleagues and clients alike, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She was also one of the fastest typists in the world, clocking in at 220 words a minute, faster than an IBM Selectric could go!
Beyond her professional accomplishments and community endeavors, Barbara found joy in the simple pleasures of life. Whether she was meticulously crafting needlepoint masterpieces, winning at bridge, scrabble or bingo, sharing laughter with loved ones, and especially, savoring a well-deserved martini, she embraced each moment with zest and grace.
Barbara's magnetic personality touched the lives of many, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, generosity, and boundless love. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of crossing paths with her during her remarkable journey through life. She is predeceased by the absolute love of her life, Robert K. Griffin husband of 65 years, and her son, Robert K. Griffin, Jr. She leaves her daughter, Tracey Griffin Himmel of Chapel Hill, NC and three grandchildren, John, Liam and Claire, as well as her beloved nieces and nephews. Barbara and Bob welcomed their nephew Chris into their life as a small boy when his mother was unable to care for him and this left an indelible bond. The family wants to extend our heartfelt thanks to the amazing, loving and caring staff at McLean Home where she spent her last days.

Obituary Preview: Margaret “Peg” Simon Curtin departed on her final voyage on April 9, 2024 following a brief illness. Peg was born to Margaret and Gustave Simon on March 25, 1938, and grew up in Wallingford, CT. She earned her RN degree at Grace-New Haven School of Nursing. While in New Haven, she met her husband, Charles Curtin. Peg and Charley married in 1959 and settled in Simsbury, CT to raise their family. While her children were young, Peg remained active in healthcare, volunteering with the Red Cross and the Simsbury Visiting Nurses Association. Later, she worked as a school nurse at the Ethel Walker School, and then subsequently worked for 23 years at the Burgdorf Clinic at Mt. Sinai Hospital in Hartford, CT. She volunteered at the Simsbury Historical Society and the Village for Families and Children’s Thrift Shop in Simsbury for years. Peg’s passion throughout was traveling. She began her overseas adventures visiting her parent’s home country of Hungary, and eventually traveled to over 60 countries.
Peg was preceded in death by her parents, and her brothers Robert and James Simon. She is survived by her daughter Taffy Curtin, son-in-law Joe Clifford, grandchildren Dan, Scott, Tim, and Lisa Clifford, and her son Bill Curtin, daughter-in-law, Sheryl, and granddaughter Tita.

Born August 17, 1947, Susan was a woman of many interests. She had an insatiable sweet tooth and found joy in indulging in delicious treats. Her love for sports, particularly her beloved Giants, was unparalleled. She cheered for her team with unmatched enthusiasm, making every game day a celebration.
Above all, Susan cherished her role as a mother. Her two surviving sons were the center of her universe, and she poured her heart and soul into nurturing and supporting them throughout their lives. They were her pride and joy, and she found immense happiness in watching them grow and succeed.
Throughout her life, Susan was a dedicated nurse who spent her career, through to her last days, caring for others. Susan will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
She is survived by her sons, Kenneth Sampson and Jay Sampson, and her sister Janet Zumwalt. She was predeceased by her brother, Greg Nixon.
A celebration of Susan's life will be held on Thursday, April 11th from noon to 7pm at her son Kenneth’s home at 81 Buttles Road in Granby. Friends and family are invited to join together to honor this remarkable woman who brought so much love and joy into the world.

Arline was born on November 25, 1940 to Einar Sivertsen and Margaret “Peggy” Kenny in Brooklyn, New York. She was raised in Brooklyn with her two half-sisters, Margaret “Peggy” Reed and Dorothy Reed, until moving to Florida with her parents where she attended Central Junior High School in West Palm Beach before she graduated from Miami Senior High in 1958. After graduating from Charon Business School, Miami, she worked for a law firm.
In 1958, Arline met Frank Croce, Jr., the love of her life, who was a family acquaintance from Glen Head, NY and a student at Embry Riddle School of Aviation, Miami, after military service. They married and went on to have three daughters, Catherine, Laura and Susan. They eventually settled in Enfield, CT where Frank began his career as a Field Service Representative at Hamilton Standard. After raising their three daughters, Arline began her career at Hamilton Standard as an Executive Secretary, dedicating 27 years before retiring in 1999.
Arline and her late husband Frank shared a beautiful journey together, filled with love and adventures. They met in their youth, married, and spent 59 wonderful years together until Frank's passing in 2017. They raised their family in various locations, finally settling in Simsbury, CT, where they were active members of the Powder Forest community.
Arline never met a stranger; she was a vibrant and sociable woman who touched the hearts of everyone she met. She had a passion for decorating, cooking and hosting gatherings, nurturing lasting friendships wherever she went. She and Frank enjoyed sailing, skiing, and traveling, creating many cherished memories along the way. Arline belonged to a broad array of social and service groups, many focused on her passions for gardening, bridge, golf, theater and the arts.
She will be deeply missed by her family and many loving and caring friends. She leaves her three daughters, Catherine Tower and her husband Jamie of Suffield, CT, and their children Jennifer, Michael and Gregory; Laura Stark and her husband Charles of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, and their children Matthew and Alexa; and Susan Cormier and her husband Michael of Somers, CT, and their children Luke and Liza; six great-grandchildren, Norman, Tabitha, Katherine, Gwendolyn, Morgan and Madison; brother-in-law Fred Croce of Vero Beach, FL, and his wife Denise, and loving nieces and nephew.
The family expresses gratitude to the caregivers of Seabury who provided her with exceptional care and love during her time there.

Obituary Preview: Jacqueline Ann (Brown) Haggerty, passed away on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at the age of 89 in Simsbury, Connecticut.
Jackie was born in Flushing, Queens to Mathilda and John Brown in 1934. Jacqueline attended the School of Nursing at St. Luke’s Hospital in NYC. While attending nursing school, Jackie met and fell in love with Denis Haggerty, who attended Columbia University. They married in 1955 and together they started a family. Jackie continued to work as a nurse while raising four active children. She later returned to school and received her Bachelor’s Degree in Public and Community Health from St. Joseph’s University. Jackie later enjoyed a second career as a Girl Scout camp nurse in New York, Massachusetts and Wyoming. She enjoyed being in nature and gardening as well as remaining active in her church and community. Jackie traveled to Rome with her church choir and sang at a papal mass for Pope John Paul II; she was an avid member of the League of Women’s Voters, helped found a local nursery school and volunteered for a variety of community groups. She also enjoyed tennis, golf and swimming throughout her life.
Jacqueline is predeceased by her husband, Denis A. Haggerty, her son, Christopher Haggerty and her daughter, Mary Lynn King (David King) of Petaluma, California. She leaves behind her son, Peter J. Haggerty (Jo-Ellen Gasior) of Canton, CT, her son, Timothy J. Haggerty, of Pittsburgh PA, as well as her granddaughters, Caroline King (Chris Orme) of El Sobrante, CA, Kathleen King of San Francisco CA, Jessie DeMarco (Jonathan Penna) and great grandson, Enzo Penna of Canton CT, Gina DeMarco (Eric Regner) of Torrington CT and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral mass will be held for Jackie at St. James R.C. Church, 429 Route 25A in Setauket, NY on May 17th at 10:45 AM, followed by a burial service in the St. James Cemetery, adjacent to the church. As a long-term diabetic, the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation was a great source of information and favorite cause for Jackie. Obituary Preview: A gentle man and a true gentleman, Lindsey Pinkham, 68, of Simsbury, CT, passed on April 5, 2024, due to complications from an accident. Lindsey was a beloved husband, father and grandfather, brother and uncle. He was surrounded by the love of his family when he passed.
Born in Brockton, MA, to Charles and Lynn Pinkham, Lindsey graduated from Canton High School in Canton, MA, before receiving his BA in Sociology at Keene State College. His freshman year, he met Deb, his wife of 47 years, and they married upon graduation. They moved to Simsbury in 1979, raising their two boys there, and have called it home ever since.
Family was most important to Lindsey, and he took pride in creating spaces where the family could gather. He was happy simply sitting on his front porch with Deb or relaxing at the firepit and often surrounded by the love of his sons, their wives, and five grandchildren who live close by. Considered patient, industrious, and generous, Lindsey loved taking care of his home and yard and participating in his community. For many years, he and Deb enjoyed their involvement with friends on a local coed softball team, which became a second family. More recently, he enjoyed annual vacations to Cape Cod, watching his grandchildren play on the beach, visiting the local café for breakfast, and spending time with family.
Lindsey began his 38-year career in banking in 1981 in what would become the Connecticut Bankers Association (CBA). He held positions of increased responsibility and was named President and CEO in 2012. In that role, Lindsey was proud to serve as the voice of the banking industry, both in Connecticut and Washington, DC. He was committed to furthering his own knowledge, graduating first from the Connecticut School of Banking and Finance and later from the prestigious National School of Banking at Fairfield University. Lindsey was especially proud of his role as Dean of the CBA’s Connecticut School of Finance and Management, which graduated more than one thousand bankers during his tenure.
Lindsey exemplified steadfast commitment and leadership. He spearheaded the creation of the Center for Financial Training (CFT), which grew into a nationwide training institution for the banking industry. He served on CFT’s Board of Directors for over 30 years, including a recent tenure as Chair. Lindsey’s wealth of business knowledge, combined with a genuine passion for empowering others to succeed, led many bankers to rely on him as a trusted advisor. His legacy of service was an inspiration to all who worked alongside him. During his long and successful career at the CBA and in the banking industry, Lindsey was known to multiple generations of bankers as a mentor, colleague, and friend.
He is survived by his loving wife, Deb Pinkham; his brother, Chris Pinkham (and wife Deb) of Freeport, ME; his son Matthew (and wife Katie) of Simsbury, CT; his son David (and wife Kelly) of Canton, CT; his nieces and nephews Samantha, Emilie, Alec, and Ben; and his five grandchildren, Heidi, Jack, Britta, Brooke, and Michael.
A private family celebration of life will be held in lieu of a service.

She is survived by her daughter, Karen Delahanty of Avon; four sons, Kevin Delahanty of East Point, FL, Michael Delahanty and his wife Kelly of Newington, Kerry Delahanty of Avon and Ken Delahanty, of Canton; four grandsons, Scott Delahanty and fiancée Anneliese Hurlock of Collinsville, Kurt Delahanty and girlfriend Olivia Vitali of Torrington, David Delahanty of New Hartford; Sean Delahanty of Farmington; three step grandsons Anderson Claffey and Keegan Claffey of Newington, Shannon Vigue of Ft. She received her degree from the University of Massachusetts and was a Speech Pathologist until the birth of her daughter, at which time she chose to leave the workplace and embrace her role as a devoted and loving stay-at-home mother.
Polly was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Society of Rockport, MA, and volunteered with the Youth Religious Education program there for many years. She enjoyed spending time outdoors, skiing and hiking the White Mountains of New Hampshire in her free time.
She is survived by her beloved daughter, Alexis Slabinski and son-in-law John Slabinski of Tariffville, grandchildren Kenna O’Brien and Adeline Slabinski of Tariffville, sister Patricia Carvelli and husband Lou Carvelli of Waltham, MA, brother Tom Lyons and spouse Linda Lyons of Weymouth, MA, and brother Mike Lyons and spouse Netty Lyons of Peabody, MA, along with her fifteen nieces and nephews.

He was born June 24, 1970, in Akron, Ohio, son of Joseph Francis Krocheski, Sr. and Anna Marie (Coughlin) Krocheski. Joe resided with Jude in West Simsbury for 26 years.
Joe was a graduate of UConn having received his MBA in Finance and achieved the professional designation of Chartered Financial Analyst. Joe started his career as a Security Analyst and Portfolio Manager. Later, he transitioned to the Vice President of Investor Relations and then Vice President CFO of Commercial and Specialty Businesses at Aetna/CVS. Prior to his passing, Joe was a Senior Vice President at Molina Healthcare.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Church and of Hopmeadow Country Club, both in Simsbury.
Joe delighted in landscaping, having never been able to pass a nursery without stopping. Always coming home with a new hydrangea for Jude to find a home among the other multitudes. He lived for kayaking, hiking, and biking with his family. Joe relished cruising in his Jeep with the top down and music up. Most Saturday evenings were spent outside with a roaring fire watching movies with friends and family. In the summer months, he enjoyed travelling to the Berkshires, especially Tanglewood. Joe adored cooking, grilling and most of all eating. Above all else, Joe’s greatest passion was making his daughters, Katie and Isa, laugh.
In addition to his loving wife of almost 27 years, he is survived by his daughters, Kathryn “Katie” Krocheski of Catskill, NY and Isabella “Isa” Krocheski of West Simsbury; his siblings Carolyn Krocheski, Diana Barton and husband Scott, Timothy Krocheski and Kimberly Newberry and husband John. Joe also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews and two great nephews.
The family wishes to thank the whole sixth floor staff in the Conklin Building at Hartford Hospital Rehab for their kind and dignified treatment of our beloved Joe during his two weeks stay. As well as Hartford HealthCare Cancer Institute’s Neuro-Oncology Team who guided our family through a difficult time.

Obituary Preview: Ida Poirier Maillet, 94, of Avon and Bouctouche, New Brunswick, Canada, died Friday, March 22, 2024 at Apple Rehab in Avon. She was born August 13, 1929 in Lynn, Massachusetts and raised in Dieppe, N.B. She was the daughter of the late Tilmon and Agnes (LeBlanc) Poirier. Ida was the wife of Oscar Maillet of Avon whom she married on September 14, 1948 in Dieppe and shortly thereafter, relocated to Hartford. They moved to Avon in 1955. Ida lived for her family and St. Ann's Church in Avon, where she was a long time communicant and was one of the first Ministers of the Holy Eucharist. Ida donated much of her time to her parish and was in charge of funeral receptions at St. Ann. She also was a member of their Women's Guild (having served a term as president) a member and past president of the Legion de Marie. She was a member of the Avon Senior Citizens Club, a member of LaRencontre and attended many retreats at the Immaculate Retreat House in Willimantic. She volunteered at St. Francis Hospital for over ten years, donated her time to the Avon Health Center and to the American Home front. Ida worked at Avon Convalescent Home for eight years. She enjoyed spending her summers in Bouctouche.
Ida is survived by her son Ronald Maillet and his wife Christina of Canton; daughter Francine Ahrens of Winsted; six grandchildren who knew her as Grandma and Memere, May (Ahrens) Friday, Benjamin Ahrens, Leonard Maillet, Paul Maillet, Willie Ahrens and Raquel Lonabaugh; several great grandchildren; a sister, Cecile Scheidel of Burlington, daughter-in-law Karen Maillet of Simsbury and 18 nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Oscar Maillet, a son, Claude Maillet, her daughter, Janice Lonabaugh and her husband William, four brothers, Jules Poirier, Raymond Poirier, Paul Poirier and Edgar Poirier; a sister Jeanne Maillet and husband Alcide, son-in-law, John Ahrens and brother-in-law, Jack Scheidel.

Obituary Preview: Margaret (Hilton) Kissel, wife of the late Samuel Kissel, lost her battle against cancer on March 20, 2024.
Margaret was born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1930 to John and Annie (Mackay) Hilton. In 1940, to escape the dangers of WWII, her mother, sister and she sought refuge in Washington Depot for four years.
Upon her return to Scotland, she attended Laurel Bank School and Glasgow University before heading to NYC to start the next chapter of her life. It was there she met her first husband, Richard Walton. They lived in Maryland and Brooklyn before settling in Redding, CT with their two children.
It was at that time that Margaret started her teaching career, getting her Master’s degree and 6th year along the way. Her entire teaching career was in the Wilton school system.
In 1978, she married Samuel Kissel who, through his experience as the Concert Master for Arturo Toscanini, taught her a deep appreciation for classical music.
After her retirement, in 1988, they split their time between Nantucket and Boca Raton before returning to Connecticut in 1994. She then started her long relationship with FAVARH, working in their thrift shop and serving on their Board of Directors.
Margaret is survived by her son Richard Walton and his partner Trish Desforges, daughter Cathy and her husband Jim, grandchildren: Kevin Barnard, Shannon Barnard, and Maggie Barnard, many nieces and nephews in Scotland and her cousin Evelyn Stirling. She was predeceased by her sister Elsa Fyfe.

Shirley Jenne - January 27, 1924 - March 19, 2024

Obituary Preview: Shirley E. (Rood) Jenne of Avon, CT, passed away on March 19, 2024 at age 100. Shirley was the eldest of two children born to Marion and Lester Rood of Holyoke, MA. She was a longtime resident of Avon where she and her husband of 52 years, Arthur F. Jenne, lived until his death in 1998. Shirley remained an Avon resident until 2016.
Shirley graduated from Hartford Hospital School of Nursing and was in the nursing field for her entire career. She worked at Hartford Hospital, and private doctor’s offices prior to joining the Brightview Convalescent Home staff where she became the Administrator of Nursing and remained there until she retired.
She was a member of Avon Congregational Church and was very active in the Women’s Fellowship Group in the early years. Shirley was also a volunteer for over 25 years at the FAVARH Thrift Shop in Canton, CT, an organization which was started to support children with disabilities. She was a 25 plus year member and past president and treasurer of the Acorn Button Club as well as a member of the Connecticut Button Club.
Shirley leaves four daughters, Marilyn J. Lewis, Linda J. Marr (Denny), Gale MJ Boisvert (Lester), and Elaine Chamberlain (Steve); ten grandchildren, Kelly Harrigan (Joe), Katie Bordeau (Brad), Jennifer Marr Bell (Len), Ethan Boisvert, Tyson Boisvert (Ethelyn), Devin Boisvert (Jessica), Tierney McGrath (Kieran), Daren Boisvert (Joyce), Wendy Cipollo (Tom) and Bill Roman (Sara); and 19 great grandchildren Jailyn, Joe and Jase Harrigan, Greyson, Pemberley and Callen Bordeau, Micah, Eliana, Sawyer, Scarlett, Mackenzie and Isabella Boisvert, Killian, Donnacha and Ruairi McGrath, Chase Cipollo and Haley, Aubrey and Jacob Roman. Shirley was predeceased by her brother and sister-in-law Ken and Eleanor Rood. She leaves her only nephew, David Rood (Judy).
The family thanks the Chatfield staff for the wonderful care and support of their mother during her 4 year stay.

Obituary Preview: Beverly Ann Boales Hiatt, 86, of Woodstock Valley, Connecticut, was born November 19, 1937, in Daytona Beach, Florida, and died peacefully on March 18, 2024, at MeadowBrook in Granby, Connecticut. She was the wife of the late John Stephen Hiatt, and daughter of the late Maxwell Lee and Josephine Carter Boales. In the latter half of her life, she lived with her dear, longtime partner, the late MaryEllen Dee, in their lakeside log home in Woodstock Valley. Beverly is survived by her brother Maxwell Boales and his wife Barbara, and sister Geraldine Rairigh of Florida; her children Sheryl Lynn Pitt and husband Jon of North Carolina, John Michael Hiatt and wife Roberta of Connecticut, Laura Lee McPherson and husband Scott of Connecticut, and James Carter Hiatt and wife Amie of Massachusetts; beloved children of her partner, Linda Spirko and fiancé William of Massachusetts, and Richard Dee and wife Chris of North Carolina; grandchildren Tyler, Michael, Sarah, Samantha, Sophie, Steven, Billy, Madison, Jayne, Maylee, Max, Jessica, Emma, and Peyton; and great grandchildren Levi, Luke, Parker, Beckett, and Cassia.
She was a graduate of Seabreeze High in Daytona Beach, FL, and earned her Bachelor of Arts in Education from the University of Florida, Class of 1959. She was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha and was selected as one of the Outstanding Young Women of America for her achievements. She then taught elementary school at Pine Hills School in Orlando, FL, was a homemaker for many years, went back to school to learn computer programming, and worked as Senior Systems Analyst at Aetna in Hartford, CT, until her retirement. During retirement she and MaryEllen founded Hummingbird Handicrafts embroidering hats, shirts, bags and other items for schools, teams, and other groups, and also worked with Project Linus. Beverly enjoyed spending time outdoors, playing tennis, volleyball and board games, kayaking, gardening, and found the deepest joy in gathering with family and friends by the ocean or lake. She also loved reading, brain teasers and puzzles, feeding the fish on the dock, watching the hummingbirds at the feeder, and spending time with “the breakfast club”. Beverly was adventurous and playful by nature, having taken trips down the Amazon to Machu Pichu and skydiving in her 70’s, and also loved collecting shells and relaxing by the beach while at the condo in St. Augustine, FL. She was also an avid UConn Women’s Basketball fan and rarely missed a game.
A memorial service will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Friday, March 29th at the Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow Street, Simsbury, CT. Judy is survived by her three sisters, Susan Feret (and the late Brandon Clarke) of Canton, CT, Lisa Feret-Seymore and her husband Francis of Roxbury, CT and Robin Feret of Woodbury, CT.
Judy graduated from Washington, CT High School and the University of Rochester, New York with a BA in Biological Sciences. Judy proceeded to the University of Bridgeport, CT for her RN, returning to the U. of Rochester for her Master’s in Nursing.
Judy taught nursing at Rainbow’s Children Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio, and St. Francis Hospital in Elmira, New York. She was a nurse manager at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital in Torrington, CT, then at UCONN Medical Center in Farmington and lastly at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford.
Judy had many hobbies: knitting, crocheting, baking, reading, shopping on QVC and her love of Shiba Inu puppies.
