Departed: 01/12/2024 (New Roads)
Obituary Preview: How y'all doing? This Junior. Well, that's what everybody called me, but my full name is Eugene King, III. I guess you can call me a sweetheart baby because I was born in 1956 on the 14th of February, at the New Orleans Charity Hospital, my parents Jearline (King) Patterson and Eugene King welcomed their firstborn son into the world. I was baptized and grew up in church and y'all I didn't live a perfect life. But if you all are honest with yourselves, neither did you. Yes, I made some mistakes and no I didn't always make the best choices, and it wasn't because I wasn't taught, but it was because of "my choices." On April 21, 1977, at the age of 21, I "enlisted" in the military, serving in the United States Army as a Petroleum Supply Specialist. Before being discharged under honorable conditions, I was the recipient of Marksman M16 and Expert Grenade Badges. One thing I never forgot was my roots...my family. This probably sounds crazy to you, but one time I took a taxi cab all the way from New Orleans, Louisiana to mama house. Yeah, you can imagine how much that cost. I see y'all laughing. Anyway, the last time I came home, I had an opportunity to see mama and visit some family members. I didn't know that would be my last time seeing everyone, but life has a way of bringing us back down some familiar paths...HOME.. In life, there is never just one season. There is a season to be born and a season to die. My season...my appointment with death was January 12, 2024. So yes, it's true that for everything there is a season and a time for every matter under heaven...God's purpose...God's timing. Mama, I want to say that I didn't always have a lot to give, but I gave what I could. I wrote letters to you and sometimes even put a lil money in the envelope. You would always say, "Boy, stop sending cash in the mail. Anybody can open that envelope and keep that money." But I still kept mailing cash. I called you often too. Speaking of that, on January 10, 2024, I tried to call you at 2:30 p.m. but you weren't home. Even though I didn't get a chance to call you again, I don't want you to feel sad because you missed the call. And you are probably thinking, 'I wondered what did Jr. wanted to tell me?" Well, mama, the secret things belong to God and the things He shall reveal belongs to us. You know I always ended my calls with, "I love you mama." Since "love" is an action word, always remember that every letter I sent, every call I made, and every gift I gave were symbols of love. That reminds me, I know you remember the last box I sent you filled with shoes, towels, and socks. And when I talked to you, you told me how happy you were to get that box. Mama, keep that memory of love as a smile. To my brothers, Isaac (Michiko), Carl, Mark (Gloria), James and Renaldo, we had some fun times and some sough times together. I thought about you guys often and I was honored to call you all my brothers. To my sisters, Natasha (David), Penny and Camille (Jerry) I'll always be your big brother. Y'all take care of yourselves. To Lydell, you never forgot about me. Thank you for being a true friend. Yes, many loved ones have preceded me on this journey: my sisters, Linda and Joyce, my Pops (Eugene, Jr.), my brother Miguel, uncles and cousins; but I know they are okay. Well, until we meet again, I'll see y'all later.
