He will surely be missed by his four grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. Ernest was a former member of St. Stephens Church, a US Navy Veteran, and retired from the Sanitation Department of the City of Pittsburgh. He enjoyed his loving family, his motorcycle, karate instructing, gardening, line dancing, and trumpet playing. Johnny graduated from Bishop Boyle High School, served in the US Army and was an Instructor at West Point. He also worked 33 years as a Construction Inspector for the City of Pittsburgh. He enjoyed Harley Davidson motorcycles, leather saddlery and the outdoors-fishing, camping, boating and hunting.
In addition to his mother, he was predeceased by two wives Lynn McMahon Gidel and Joanne Gazzo Gidel, and a niece Nicole Gidel.
He is survived by his father John T. Gidel, his sister Mary (Nick), his brother Kenny (Ronita), his sister, Betty (Gerry) and his Fiancé Jasmine. He was an uncle and great-uncle to many nieces and nephews and had countless friends. He surely will be missed by his Best Friend, Buddy a lab/chow mix. Obituary Preview: Alvin Canty, age 75, departed this life peacefully and surrounded by family on January 27, 2024, in Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania, leaving behind a legacy brimming with warmth and achievements.
Alvin was born October 20, 1948, to Lamar Canty and Marjorie (Reed) Canty in Cleveland, Ohio. He was a versatile athlete who excelled in track, baseball, and boxing. He attended John F. Kennedy High School, where he discovered his passion for basketball. Upon graduating high school, Alvin went on to attend Franciscan University of Steubenville, where he majored in Elementary Education. During this time, he was a member of the Black Student Union, the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), and continued to do what he loved most, play basketball. In 1973, Alvin relocated to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, embarking on a fulfilling career in Drug and Alcohol Counseling, eventually becoming the Director of the Methadone Maintenance Clinic at Discovery House prior to retiring.
Beyond his basketball prowess, Alvin will be fondly remembered for so many things. He loved reading, hosting lively domino and card game nights, and Saturday movie outings. He had a sweet tooth and followed a strict vegetarian diet. While he loved all these things, what he loved most was spending quality time with family. Alvin’s profound dedication to his family left an enduring impact on his children. He created so many cherished memories with his children; birthday celebrations, having dance sessions in the attic listening to records, a shared enthusiasm for Cleveland Browns and Cavaliers games, and Sunday brunches, just to name a few. Alvin was a natural born leader. He possessed a sharp wit and challenged others to think outside the box. He had an infectious smile that will forever be remembered by all those who knew him.
Alvin is survived by his former wife, Talisa; their five children, Taaliba (Sheldon) Hamilton, Takara, Lamar, Alvin, and Toor; two grandchildren, Yasir and Kadir; two nieces, Twanna Canty and Tyra Canty-Montgomery, four nephews in-law; Greg (Sharee) Cameron, Khyre Cameron, Freedom Cameron, and Zhyon Cameron, two aunts; Delores (Reed) Thomas and Maxine Canty, uncle; Josephus Reed, brother in-law Donald Keath, cousin who Alvin considered to be a bonus brother; Dwain (Hazel) Reed, and a host of cousins and friends so close he considered them family. Alvin was preceded in death by his parents, Lamar and Marjorie Canty (Cleveland, Ohio), and siblings, Mervin Canty (Cleveland, Ohio), and Linda (Canty) Keath (Cleveland, Ohio).

Mary Ellen attended St. Rosalia School in Greenfield and worked in local businesses.  She will be missed by her beloved cousins, Dan and Rose Hartnett of NY, Sister Mary Rita of Missouri, Michael and Ita Hartnett of Limerick, Bridget and Michael Collins of Limerick and Sean and Lucy Hartnett of Dublin. Mary also loved dear cousin Noreen McEvoy of Newtown Sands and all the Foleys, Keanes, Collins and Brosnans of Co. Kerry, Ireland. Mary cherished her good times at picnics and parties with all her many Horgan cousins of Pittsburgh and GA. Mary treasured good times and celebrated her Irish heritage with travels to Ireland and also Boston with her dear cousin, Ann Marie Clifford of MA, and formerly with her beloved cousin "Eileen" Brosnan of Pittsburgh.
Mary Ellen was a life-long member of St. Rosalia Church and valued the time she spent with her church family. Much time was spent with the Hazelwood Meals on Wheels Program and the Greenfield Senior Citizen Club. Her kindness, fun-loving and generous nature was valued by all. Her church activities were a source of great happiness.
She enjoyed spending time with her friend Karen Good and helping with vision services in her hometown. Mary really loved all her lovely cats. Brian will be deeply missed by his nieces and nephews: Kyle Fisher (Caitlyn), Morgan Fisher, TJ Fisher, Gary Casteel, Seth Johnson, Serenity DeBerry, Brittany Marcum, Austin Feather, Jesse Feather, Emili Klein (Colt), and Hailey Younkin (Isaac). Mary Frazee Corliss, a special aunt, and Bo Sines, a special uncle, also mourn his loss. Additionally, Brian was blessed with the love and friendship of Tabitha and Jason Baughman, their daughters Shayler (Isaiah) Bean and Lauren Baughman, who were like nieces to him, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

She is survived her sons Che’ King and Anthony West; her brothers Oliver McDonald, Jr., Charles Eugene Perkins, and Danny McDonald; her sisters LaVerne Carter (Denise) and her husband Edward, Carmen Jones, and Daina McDonald. Cheryl will surely be missed by her eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Cheryl loved the time she spent with the grandchildren and was an avid Steeler fan.

Elmer was the beloved husband of the late Peggy Watlington Jackson.
He graduated from Westinghouse High School Class of 1946 and later served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He was retired as a Supervisor for the US Postal Service. He became an active member of the V.F.W. He enjoyed traveling, reading, and listening to jazz. He was a fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Steelers and was active with A.A.R.P. Elmer is survived by two sons-Michael Booker, his wife Charmaine, their daughter Nickia and son Michael W. Booker, II; and Elmer A. (Buff) Jackson, Jr. Also survived by his sister Mabel E. Jackson and Special Friend Miss Ellie Fair. Mr. Jackson was predeceased by a son John Anthony Booker. Family under the care of Vereb Funeral Home, Inc. He is also survived by is his siblings, Thomas Bell, Kathryn Sacks, and Virginia Bell; and his nieces and nephews Marissa Bell Toffoli (and her children, Raphael, Jasmine, and Andre), Alina Bell, Yael Sacks, Yocheved Jacob, Samuel Blustein, and Jacob Blustein, who live in California, New York, and Illinois.
Don worked as a massage therapist, carpenter, boat builder, and taekwondo instructor at different stages in his life. He also pursued multiple pastimes over the course of his life, but always with a serious, passionate.
interest, ranging from jazz trombone, windsurfing and board-surfing, and taekwondo, to yoga, organic gardening, and the cultivation of rare orchids. All along the way, he was a fine craftsman, a tinkerer, builder, and inventor, an auto-didact who loved solving problems.
Don was born in Lahore, Pakistan, where his father worked as a professor of biology and his mother as a homemaker. He grew up in Pittsburgh. As an adult, he lived in Florida, Massachusetts, and California before returning to Pittsburgh. He was an unusually kind and humble soul, a ‘gentle giant’ with a deep belief in service to others, fairness, and justice. He cared for his mother with endless patience and good humor as she became a nonagenarian with advanced dementia. He was—and is—beloved by his family and extended family for his sweetness, corny jokes, advice on a wide range of topics, and warm hugs. He will be greatly missed by all who had the good fortune to know him.

A true car enthusiast, Pittsburgh sports fan, and passionate wood worker, Bill was always engrossed in a project - often as the persistent supervisor. Loved by his family and friends, he enjoyed returning this love with his irreplaceable wisdom or by gifting uniquely crafted pieces. He loved nothing more than bringing people together, especially over a good steak or sweet treat.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Barbara Howard of Economy, father of Jennifer (Bernie) Kuhn of Economy, Shelley (Shawn) Streb of Economy, Jason (Shannon) Simms of Harmony Twp., & James (Jessica) Simms of Fox Chapel. He was “Pap” to Michael (Kayla), Mathew, Mason, Nicole (Patrick), Morgan, Derek, Brandon, Tyler, Jason “JJ”, Grace, James & Melody. Great Grand Pap to Mariah. Father-in-law of Jim Carroll. Brother of Dennis (Sue) Howard of Zelienople and brother-in-law of Sanford Kelson of Conneaut. He was a friend to many and never forgot a face.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh & Eleanor Howard, and his daughter Rebecca “Becky” Howard Carroll.
Over the years there were three 4-legged companions that shared his home: Shadow, Kobe and most recently Shiloh, the backseat driver.
A Celebration of his Life will be held Friday, April 21, 2023 4 PM to 8 PM at the Conway Fire Hall, 900 S. Gross Street, Conway, PA 15027.
