She was born to Mildred and Tate Millspaugh and had the pleasure of growing up with one big brother, Glenn. They were the only residents that lived year-round at Masten Lake, and with the help of their friend, Al Smith, they found lots of things to entertain themselves within a secluded community. Ruth E. Puckhaber - January 15, 1946 - August 19, 2023

Departed: 08/19/2023 (Wurtsboro)
Obituary Preview: Ruth E. Puckhaber “Ruthie” was born in the old Horton Hospital, Middletown, NY on January 15, 1946. She was a twin of her sister Jane Godfrey, who was born 2 days before the birth of Ruth. Ruth was a member of the 1963 graduating class of Middletown High School.
Ruth was a very active individual who loved being involved in various activities. After graduating from Middletown High School, Ruth received her Associate degree from Dutchess County Community College. After receiving her degree, Ruth decided she wanted to make a difference in the lives of others. She enrolled in the Nursing program at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, NY and became a Registered Nurse (RN). After becoming a Registered Nurse, Ruth decided to venture out on her own and leave the state of New York and moved to Sacramento, California in 1978. When you mention the state of California, she would often smile and tell you about her times in Sacramento. She lived and worked in Sacramento for over 20 years, until she decided to come back to New York to get closer to home. Upon moving back to New York, Ruth accepted a job at the Veterans Administration (VA) Hospital in Buffalo, NY. While living in Buffalo, she became a Buffalo Bills football fan, and would often speak about the fun times she had going to the Bills games, the tailgating parties, and the very cold winters!
After the passing of her father Virgil Kenneth Godfrey in 1990, Ruth made the decision to move back home to Bloomingburg, NY to help her sister Jane care for their mother, Grace Godfrey. It was during that time that Ruth accepted a position with Occupations, Inc. as a Registered Nurse. She worked at Occupations, Inc. for over 20 years, and ultimately retired from Occupations, Inc. and the nursing field.
In November of 1990, Ruth made the decision to devote her life to God and was baptized into Christ Jesus. From that time, Ruth was a faithful member of the Middletown church of Christ, Middletown, NY, and continued her service to God until she was called home on August 19, 2023. While a member of the Middletown church of Christ, Ruth was always involved in various ministries, and loved her personal ministry of sending cards to members for birthdays, anniversaries, sickness, bereavement, or any other occasion that would allow her to send a card. Her smile was infectious, and she, like her mother, had a wonderful voice and loved to sing.
Ruth was preceded in death by her father Virgil Kenneth Godfrey, and her mother Grace Godfrey. She leaves behind her sister Jane Godfrey, and a host of friends, and family from the Middletown church of Christ.
Her memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 31, 2023 at 2:00pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 111 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro. Interment of her ashes will be held privately at a later date at the New Vernon Cemetery.

John A. Waclawski - March 24, 1938 - August 15, 2023

Departed: 08/15/2023 (Wurtsboro)
Obituary Preview: John A. Waclawski of Wurtsboro, NY passed away on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, from complications due to kidney disease. He was 85 years old.
John was born March 24, 1938, in Bristol, Rhode Island, the only child of the late John Waclawski and Jean (Jennie) Iacovino Waclawski. His family moved to Freeport, Long Island, NY when he was a small child. He spent his youth there and graduated from Freeport High School in 1956. During that time, he enjoyed many summers on Jones Beach where his father (a dredge captain) had been instrumental in the creation of the famous white sand beaches. It was also there that he met the love of his life and future wife of 63 years Diana de Prado from nearby Lynbrook, NY. John, who had a sharp mind and was always interested in science and mechanics, then attended the College of Aeronautics in Queens, NY where he received an associate degree in aviation maintenance. He was also active in the National Guard where he was the youngest person to attain the rank of Sargeant on Long Island at that time. Shortly after graduating he put his training to work as an airplane mechanic for Lockheed Martin. He received “Top Secret” security clearance by the US government and worked on both President Eisenhower’s and President Kennedy’s airplanes. John always had interesting stories to tell about that time (unclassified ones of course), like workers absentmindedly leaving tools in airplane engines. Ironically, he never really wanted to travel by plane himself as a result!
After a number of years, he left Lockheed to become an Industrial Arts (aka “shop”) teacher, first in Harlem and then for many years at Eiseman Junior High in Brownsville Brooklyn. A mechanic at heart, he loved to work with his hands and wanted to teach this to others in one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in NYC. Of course, more stories ensued of students drilling holes into their fingers to see “what would happen” and of him breaking up fights between teenage girls wielding chains and the like. After 20 years as an educator, he retired from teaching and moved with Diana to their property in the Basha Kill in Wurtsboro, NY where they had been spending their summers for decades.
Always precocious, John retired in his 50’s. He firmly believed that each person’s life was his/her own and that they should “take it back for themselves” as soon as possible. Needless to say, he was very happy during his 30+ years of retirement. He developed a number of hobbies/interests that kept him busy with friends, family and of course the local wildlife (and his cats). Some of his favorites were bicycling up the mountain, scouring the local flea markets for those exciting finds, tinkering with various mechanical items around the house, feeding and caring for the deer on their property, and enjoying the food he liked best (fried calamari and pizza were big ones). Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his family -- Diana, Deirdre, Janine, and Allan. Whenever they were together there was sure to be lots of laughs and good food.
When the NY winters got too cold for John and Diana, they enjoyed driving (not flying) to Jekyll Island, Georgia where they were snowbirds for over 20 years and made many lasting friendships. Jekyll opened up a whole new world for them where they got to learn about the culture, people, and food of the South. It also gave John great weather for biking around the island, which he loved to do.
John was truly one of a kind. With his “friendly disposition” (noted in his High School yearbook), he was quick to help others in need. Particularly if he could tinker with whatever wasn’t working! And, with a mischievous gleam in his eye, he loved to deliver a joke or a funny quip that would lighten the mood and put things into proper perspective. He will be sorely missed.
John is survived by his wife Diana de Prado Waclawski, at home; two daughters: Janine Waclawski and her husband Allan H. Church of Guilford, CT and Deirdre Waclawski of Wurtsboro, NY. In addition to his Brother-in-law Guy de Prado of Wurtsboro, NY and his three children Raymond de Prado of Wurtsboro, NY, Connie de Prado of Ormond Beach, FL and Jeanie de Prado of Ormond Beach, FL.
Following cremation, a celebration of life will be held for family and friends.
Should friends desire, contributions may be made to Pets Alive in Middletown, NY (www.petsalive.org) in memory of John and his fondness for all creatures great and small.
