As a result, Lisa and her family developed strong, lifelong relationships with thoughtful and selfless friends. During her school age years, Lisa participated in, among others, the Beanstalk School at Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation in West Orange. Until 2023, Lisa was cared for by her parents in her family home. She benefited immeasurably from this loving and nurturing environment. She loved holidays when the house was filled with family and friends. She relished her mother’s cooking (maybe a little too much!) and sat at her father’s side while he read her one book after another. She loved playing with her brothers while growing up and was always eager to visit with them as adults. Long walks in her wheelchair brought her great peace and joy. She had a great laugh.
Last year, Lisa moved into a group home in Far Hills operated by Matheny Medical and Educational Center. This transition allowed Lisa to make new friends while receiving extraordinary care from a devoted team.
Family, friends, and even strangers came away changed after meeting Lisa and marveled at the loving and endless care that her parents provided.

John Peter Osmond - August 02, 1945 - January 30, 2024

Departed: 01/30/2024 (Gillette)
Obituary Preview: John Peter Osmond, known to all as “Pete,” passed away on January 30, 2024 at the age of 78, surrounded by his loved ones. He met a long, unidentified neuromuscular disease with bravery, optimism and even humor, managing enough strength to get home for a weekend and listen to the Borderland Music Festival from his back deck, his favorite spot to sit with friends and family and admire the beautiful yard he worked so hard to design, plant and maintain.
Pete was known for many things – his kindness, his generosity, his patriotism, his faith, his love of family and friends, and for celebrating birthdays, anniversaries and other major events on Newfoundland time. He loved a good catch phrase and often brought on equal parts laughter and groans for using the same ones repeatedly. “Blame is mandatory,” “Thank God it wasn’t a snake,” “To make a short story long . . . ,” “It’s too early to tell,” “I haven’t been properly trained” and “I’m functioning at a reduced capacity” were among his favorites. Unfortunately, the entire family has inherited the use of these one-liners. During the last two years of his life, his grandkids taught him how to binge watch TV shows, “proving you can teach an old dog new tricks.” Watching his last episode of Jeopardy, he got the right question for Final Jeopardy, as he did almost every night for at least four decades.
He was born in Fitchburg, MA to Austin L Osmond of Morton’s Harbor, Newfoundland and Geraldine (Fitzgerald) Enos of Norwich, Connecticut. Pete grew up as an only child in Ridley Park, PA, attending high school at Archmere Academy and then studying at Boston College. After participating in ROTC and graduating from BC in 1968, Pete became an officer and pilot in the Army and served in Vietnam flying “Birddogs” on reconnaissance missions. After his tour of duty, which ended in 1970, he remained on active duty and learned to fly helicopters. Pete served in the National Guard for over 25 years, officially retiring from the Army as a Major in 2005. He also worked for the Federal Aviation Administration and Lockheed Martin, living in Arizona, Alabama, Georgia, Connecticut and New York, finally settling in East Aurora, NY, where he raised his family and lived for over 45 years. After his retirement from Lockheed Martin and the FAA in 2007, he was a volunteer at Immaculate Conception Church, a member of the American Legion and an active caretaker for his grandchildren.
Pete is survived by his long-time partner, Kathy Nelsen; his sons, Tom (Tina) and Pete (Jane); and by five grandchildren: Jack, Tom, Ailis, Mallory and Fitzgerald.
