Calogera is survived by her devoted children: Rosa Zarcaro and her husband Rosario, Calogero and his wife Antonietta, Antonino and his wife Debbie and son-in-law, James D'Amore. She leaves behind 9 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren who will deeply feel her absence.

She is also remembered by her dear siblings: Carmela, Giuseppe, and the late Salvatore, with whom she shared a bond of love and support throughout her life.

Willi Wegener was born in Germany on December 17, 1936. He visited the United States in 1961 and met the love of his life Margaret. They married on August 4, 1962 and have been married for nearly 62 years while residing in West New York, New Jersey their entire marriage.

Willi was strong willed and a man of few words. He was a baker by trade working long hours and always made sure to put “food on the table” so his family can eat well. Willi was also an excellent cook and gardener, often growing prized tomatoes.

Willi's family was the cornerstone of his life, and he took immense pride in their accomplishments and happiness.

Willi also loved dogs and is survived by his faithful golden retriever “Queenie”.

Obituary Preview: Charles "Charlie" Mussara, Jr., a cherished father, brother, uncle and friend, passed away peacefully on May 3, 2024, in Secaucus, NJ, at the age of 82. Born on July 12, 1941, in Jersey City, NJ, Charlie lived a life marked by generosity, humor, and a deep love for his family (both with fur and without), friends, and coworkers.

Charlie was a proud graduate of Union Hill High School, where he played football and established lifelong friendships. He was well-known in North Bergen and the surrounding areas as the owner of CandyPlus Fundraising, a business through which he supported countless local schools by organizing fundraising events.

In addition to his entrepreneurial spirit, Charlie dedicated 35 years of his life to the New Jersey Sports Complex (Meadowlands), where he began in security and rose through the ranks to become a supervisor. His colleagues at the Sports Complex were not just coworkers but became his extended family. Charlie was deeply respected by all who worked with him, and he cherished the camaraderie and friendships he developed over the years.

Beyond his professional life, Charlie was a lifelong animal lover whose generosity extended to all living creatures. His daily meetings at Dunkin Donuts were a testament to his love for social interaction and the importance of spending time with lifelong friends.

He is survived by his loving daughter, Corrine Leara and son-in-law Anthony; devoted brother, Anthony Mussara and sister-in-law Nancy; Niece Lisa Sgaramella and family, and nephew Anthony Mussara Jr. and family. Charlie is predeceased by his wife Georgina "Scotty" (nee Leitch), his parents Charles and Anna (nee Carrino) and sister Mary Foerch.

Charlie's family was the cornerstone of his life, and he took immense pride in their accomplishments and happiness. They, along with his friends and all who knew him, will miss his generous heart, his quick wit, and his boundless energy. As we reflect on Charlie's life, we are reminded of the lyrics of his favorite song "My Way" by Frank Sinatra: "I've lived a life that's full I traveled each and every highway And more, much more than this I did it my way"

She was born in the Catanzaro province of Feroleto Antico, in the southern Italian region of Calabria. There she married Michele Rotundo, and bore two daughters, Graciela and Marietta. In the 1950’s, she immigrated to Buenos Aires, Argentina, and bore a son, Miguel.

It was in 1978 when she, Michele, and their son, like millions across the world, made the venture to the United States, where she lived the remainder of her life. She lived in North Bergen for 44 years. Since then, she was been blessed with 7 grandchildren.

Luigina was known for her infectious laugh, her blunt honesty, her unwavering resolve, her playful spirit, and her beloved homemade cooking. She was a beacon of the old traditions that have made her family as strong as it is today. She loved knitting and crochet, Caso Cerrado, pinching you, and of course, cooking for the people she loved.

Her signature homemade meals consisted of fragunis, zucchini fritters, cooked pheasant and rabbit, spaghetti and meatballs, minestra, and most notably, lasagna with an Argentinian twist.

In her final years, she survived alongside her son, her daughter-in-law, Theresa, her two grandchildren, Michael and Mark, and granddaughter-in-law Courtney, in their house in Hackensack where she was given 2 years of love, joy, and peace.

She passed away in the morning, as the sun peaked over the horizon, and as the birds began to sing. Donations can be made to St Judes Hospital

Pre deceased by his parents Louis and Mary Colombini (nee- Poppo). After my birth in Houston, TX, my family raised me in North Bergen, NJ. I served in the US Army from 1961-1966. Then I met Lorraine Sosa, my Weehawken, NJ sweetheart and we married in 1973. It got better when we bore two beautiful children, Christine and Mark Colombini.  I will miss you. A special hello and love to my cousins Eugene Buccini and his wife, Joanne and to Amelia Rastetter and her husband Chris who always came to celebrate affairs dear to me. A big hug to my mother-in-law Catalina “Katie” Sosa. I will be smiling on your upcoming 100th birthday. Thank you to my brother-in-law, Councilman of Weehawken, Robert J Sosa and his wife Desiree. Thank you to my cousins Vernice Solimar and Maria Mancini. Hugs and kisses to my nieces and nephews, Lisette Sosa Bingold and Phil, Janelle Sosa, Kristen Sosa and Freddy, Danielle Ambrosio and Jack, Steven Mancini and Christine. Leonard Altamura - April 14, 1938 - March 19, 2024

Leonard J. Altamura, Esquire, an attorney and philanthropist whose advocacy touched lives all over the world, died Tuesday, March 19 in New York City. He was 85.

The cause was the onset of a sudden hemorrhagic stroke while walking in New York City on Friday with his wife Carmela.

A licensed personal injury attorney in Union City, New Jersey for 56 years, Mr. Altamura was widely known and beloved. He was a precise, honest, and compassionate lawyer. His legacy is defined by the wide spectrum of people he helped, from local laborers who needed assistance after workplace injuries, to internationally renowned classical musicians who benefitted from his patronage. Brian Stack, Mayor of Union City, said “Mr. Altamura was one of the kindest, gentlest human beings I have ever met in my lifetime. He was just a beautiful person with a beautiful heart.”

Mr. Altamura was born April 14, 1938, in Molfetta, Italy, a city near Bari in the Puglia region. His early years were marked by uncertainty and challenges during the second world war, an experience that fortified his determination to succeed at everything he attempted.

He received his education in the Catholic Church while preparing for a career as a priest. He received rigorous training in Latin, Greek, philosophy, Church doctrine, and history. He emigrated to the United States with his parents and five siblings in 1955.

They first settled in Hoboken, where some members of the family worked in their uncle’s coat factory. He quickly learned English, and after about a year left for college at the Don Bosco College Seminary in Newton, NJ. After a final year of study in Italy, Mr. Altamura decided to leave the clergy and find a new career.

After returning to the United States, he consulted a career-counseling service to help with his next move. They provided an aptitude test, which suggested he pursue the law. He attended Seton Hall University Law School, eventually earning his license to practice in 1967.

Mr. Altamura was eager for opportunities to establish a practice. He was one of the few lawyers in Union City at the time who spoke Spanish, and a travel agent allowed him to set up a small desk in the back of his agency to advise clients from among the waves of Cuban immigrants who transformed Union City in the 1960s. Those immigrants became his most loyal clients for the next half century as he established himself as one of the most sought-after trial attorneys in Northern New Jersey.

In 1969, Mr. Altamura married his wife of 55 years, Carmela Altamura, née Bucceri, an opera singer, arts entrepreneur, and renowned teacher. Together, they pursued a legacy of philanthropy in the arts that would transform the lives of students and artists all over the world.

In 1972 they founded the Academy of Fine Arts, Music, and Dance in Union City, whose faculty included many recent Russian and Cuban immigrants who trained in Moscow and danced with the Cuban National Ballet. In 1986 they also founded Inter-Cities Performing Arts, Inc. a non-profit organization dedicated to furthering ethnic, social, professional, and cultural relations through the arts. Soon after, they produced the first Altamura/Caruso International Voice Competition, a pioneering program for emerging opera singers that offered opportunities for mature voices and eliminated racial bias in its auditions. Singers came from all over the world to compete, and many of them went on to sing at the Metropolitan Opera, La Scala, the Vienna Staatsoper, and Chicago Lyric Opera. The last competition was held in November 2023 in Siena, Italy.

In 1998, Mr. and Mrs. Altamura established the Altamura Center for Arts and Cultures in the Catskill Mountain region. They produced concerts and staged full operas there for over twenty years.

Outside of the courtroom, Mr. Altamura was an accomplished actor and producer of theater. He performed roles such as Alfieri in Arthur Miller’s Under the Bridge, George in David Mamet’s The Duck Variations, Peter in Ibsen’s An Enemy of the People, and Vespone in Pergolesi’s Opera Buffa La Serva Padrona. He studied acting at H. B. Studio in New York City with Michael Beckett and Lorraine Serabian, and in the last few years took up singing under Mrs. Altamura’s tutelage.

Mr. Altamura was also an avid runner, swimmer, and cyclist. He ran over 50 races, completing the Boston and New York City marathons and many others. Mr. Altamura was honored many times over for his service to the community. In 2017, the Federazione Mofettesi d’America awarded him with the “Molfetta Day USA Heritage Award.” In 2019, Union City honored Mr. and Mrs. Altamura by naming 40th street between Bergenline Avenue and New York Avenue “Altamura Way.”

Mr. Altamura’s two guiding lights were St. Francis of Assisi, for his charity, and Abraham Lincoln, for his sense of justice.

His early training in the church forever influenced the way Mr. Altamura treated other people. He was unfailingly charitable, dignified, and generous. His daughter Cristina says that “he always gave to anyone who crossed his path who was in need.” He remained a lifelong devoted Roman Catholic, and contributed frequently to its causes, particularly programs of the Salesian Order.

At the same time, he was motived in his career by an unswerving commitment to justice. He was a fierce advocate in the courtroom, known to have a profound knowledge of the law and a keen eye for details. In his later years, younger lawyers frequently sought him out to burnish their own work and learn about his methods.

Mr. Altamura is survived by his wife, Carmela Altamura; his two children Cristina and Lenny Altamura; three grandchildren; and his five siblings, Sister Catherine Altamura, Dr. Michael Altamura, Patrick Altamura, Anna Bellizzi, and Antonietta Viola.

His passing marks the end of a life filled with love, laughter, dedication, and profound impact on those fortunate enough to have known him.

Born on Sept 7, 1935, Frank spent his earlier years growing up in downtown Jersey City, NJ, which helped shape his strong work ethic and unwavering commitment to creating and maintaining a strong sense of family. There he met many lifetime friends, including the late Anthony Nicodemo, Sr. and Bill Macchi, Sr. Frank was a proud alum of Holy Family HS, Union City where he was a scholarship baseball player. He earned his BA at Seton Hall University and his MA at Rutgers University.

Frank's journey took a significant turn when he met the love of his life, Angela, whom he married in 1960. Together, they embarked on a remarkable journey spanning over six decades, characterized by their unwavering devotion and mutual respect to each other - moving from Jersey City to North Bergen. Their bond was a testament to the enduring power of love and partnership, serving as an inspiration to all who knew them.

As a father, Frank was an example of strength, dedication, wisdom, and integrity - instilling his six children with these attributes along with a strong sense of purpose, understanding, and love. He took great pride in witnessing their successes and supported them through life's inevitable challenges. He is survived by his children, David and wife Lisa (Mullane), sons David and Sammy, Anthony, Deborah, Gregory, Douglas, and Robert and wife Dawn (Lawrence), sons Dominic, Vincent, and Andrew.

Frank's role as a grandfather brought him immeasurable joy and fulfillment. He cherished the precious moments spent with his five grandchildren, nieces, and nephew, imparting invaluable lessons, and creating cherished memories.

Frank’s passion for knowledge and love of literature made him a natural fit for becoming an educator at North Bergen High School, in North Bergen, NJ. Over a 30-year teaching career teaching English literature in North Bergen he was able to impart his wisdom and love of learning to countless students who entered his classroom. His passion for teaching and firm belief in the importance of education drove him to undertake leadership roles as the president of the North Bergen teacher’s union, and later President of the NJ AFT. He was the proud varsity baseball coach with his dear friend the late Ralph Fedele. Additionally for many years he ran the elementary school basketball program and was a volunteer baseball coach in the North Bergen Little League. Furthermore, during his summers when not teaching, he worked as a Laborer and was a very proud lifelong member of the Laborer’s Local 325. In his spare time he found tremendous pleasure sharing his love of motorcycle riding with his son Anthony. He rode actively across the country for over 35 years.

Frank was deeply committed to his Catholic roots and his dedication to living those values by serving his community and helping the people who he encountered. He believed in the importance of living life through the values instilled in him by the Roman Catholic church. Angela and he always spoke proudly of their children’s education and graduation from Catholic prep high schools Holy Angels’ Academy, in Demarest, NJ and St. Peter’s Prep in Jersey City, NJ. This life guiding tenant led to his role as founder and principal of the CCD program at Our Lady of Fatima, in North Bergen, NJ, as well as many other positions he volunteered for in the parish where Angela and he met many dear friends including the Rev. Monsignor Franklyn M. Casale, and the late Anthony and Grace Herenda, Thomas and Helen Dougherty and Joseph and Josephine Tighe. The principal position, though, allowed him to combine both his love for educating with his core foundational principles of life.

Frank’s passing leaves a profound void in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. However, his spirit will live on in the countless lives he touched and the memories he created. Though he may no longer be with us in body, his presence will forever be felt in the warmth of the sun, the gentle breeze, and the love that surrounds us.

Frank will be dearly missed by his loving wife, Angela, his children, grandchildren, extended family, and friends. May he rest in eternal peace, knowing that his legacy of love and compassion will endure for generations to come.

Bobby went to Memorial High School where he made lifelong friends and had great times. After school, he worked for many years for the State of New Jersey until he retired in early 2023. He wasn't just a coworker; he was a true friend to many.

Anyone who knew Bobby will remember him as a loving dad and grandpa who found joy in being with his family. He leaves behind his loving daughters and grandchildren, Abigail, Annabelle, Adalyn, Jaxon and Sophia who brought him so much happiness. He'll also be deeply missed by his fiancée, Maria, her son Carlos and wife Amanda, and his dear brother Larry and sister Marilyn.

Our dad, Bobby, was the heart of every gathering, making everyone laugh with his stories. He loved woodworking and put a lot of love into everything he made, especially his latest project, a special workbench. He enjoyed taking walks, listening to music, and video calls with his grandchildren.

Bobby was a kind person with a big heart, and he'll be remembered for spreading love and laughter. He touched the lives of many, and even though he's no longer with us, the memories he created will never fade away. Obituary Preview: Chiarina E. Gargiulo, also known as “Grandma Claire” to all those who had the pleasure of knowing her, passed away peacefully on February 18, 2024. Claire was born in New York City on July 1, 1924. Claire lived a beautiful 99 years and was always surrounded with the ones she loved. Her North Bergen home was frequented by everyone that knew her and she made sure you never left with an empty stomach.

Claire has joined her best friend and loving departed husband John D. Gargiulo, and sister Marie Longariello, along with many other loving friends and family in Heaven. The one and only, the golden matriarch of our family, is survived by her loving daughters Diane and Adrienne, her son-in-law Billy, her grandchildren Billy, Melissa, and Kimberly, and her eight great- grandchildren Giovani, Ashley, Alyssa, Alexis, Mia, Brady, Drew, and Kayla.

Claire was dedicated to her work at Palisade Savings Bank for over 30 years, where she helped and touched the lives of many throughout the community. Above all, Claire enjoyed spending time with her family. She loved trips to Atlantic City and Vegas to play the slot machines and was often a lucky winner playing Keno. Claire and Johnny would often visit the Meadowlands racetrack and her favorite jockey was John Campbell! She taught us all how to pick the winning horse and was lucky enough to celebrate her 92nd birthday with John Campbell himself! Claire could make you blush with a dirty joke, reminisce with her cherished storytelling, and sing a happy tune like “my wooden little shoes”. Claire had an extremely warm and loving impact with everyone she met. She made all those around her feel at-home. Claire was full of spirit, extremely strong-willed, and will always be the life of our party! Her family will forever cherish our loving memories and continue to carry on her generous bighearted legacy!

Obituary Preview: James Vincent Cerullo Jr., or “Jimmy”, as he was endearingly known by all who had the pleasure of meeting him, transitioned home to his eternal resting place on February 15th, 2024. Born in French Hospital in New York City on November 6, 1946, Jimmy’s parents would bring him home to raise him in the township he would always refer to as “God’s Country” and would ultimately call home. Jimmy was raised in North Bergen, and bled Bruins’ colors of red and gold, spending the entirety of his life serving both the adults and children of his community, doing what he loved, which was not just selling bicycles, but packaging and delivering them as memories. If you knew where 85th Street and Bergenline Avenue was, then you knew of James Vincent Bicycles.

Jimmy joined his departed wife Gloria J. (Simonetti) Cerullo, his mother Elizabeth (Ferguson) Cerullo and his mentor in life, his father James Vincent Cerullo Sr., and countless friends and family that have since left us. Jim is survived by his sister Mary (Cerullo) Buda, his son James Vincent Cerullo III, and his wife Liliana Cerullo, his son Brian Cerullo and his wife Stephanie (Cross) Cerullo, and his daughter Jillian Cerullo, as well as his four grandchildren: Jack Cerullo, William Cerullo, Julian Cerullo, and Nolan Cerullo. Nothing gave Jimmy more joy than his family, especially his children and grandchildren.

No matter where Jimmy went, he would always be stopped by someone that would say, “Mr. Vincent, I bought my first bike from you.” A humble man that did not like to be thrust into the spotlight, there was this sense of pride that the family bicycle business that his father, James Vincent Sr., started in 1936, was still talked about by sentimental adults reminiscing about their childhood. One story often raised by his sister, Mary, highlights the kind, loving soul Jimmy was, and the care he had for others. A father had bought a bicycle for his son, and the same day the bike was purchased, it was later stolen leaving both the father and son devastated. When Jimmy learned what had occurred, he replaced the bicycle for the boy free of charge, as he knew the son’s father did not have the money to buy a second bicycle. This is just one memory of many that exemplifies the love he had for his customers, his community, and his friends and family. Donations in Jimmy’s name, may be made to The Michael J.
