Wendy Lee Brown - January 23, 1973 - October 08, 2021

Departed: 10/08/2021 (Selma)
Obituary Preview: Our beloved Wendy L. Brown, 48, of Clayton, NC passed away unexpectedly on October 8, 2021. She was born on January 23, 1973 to Lorraine Spooner and Herbert Cook of New Jersey. It's important to remember the goodness of Wendy's life and, in particular, the goodness she brought to this world. She was sunlight in the lives of those who knew and loved her. You would want to be around her because her presence was always warming and cheerful. You felt welcomed. You felt loved. You felt your stomach hurt from laughter. For anyone who knew Wendy, it was not uncommon for her to burst into fits of laughter. She loved to laugh and that laugh was absolutely infectious. She enjoyed life and entertaining those around her with some of the best home cooked food because she loathed that you would ever eat. She had a knack for creating her own tasty recipes out of random ingredients in the kitchen, and the end result was always fantastic. Wendy would even be the person to help clean up at the end of the night. That was just who she was. Wendy's alluring smile would light up any room. She was an intimidatingly beautiful woman yet always had a way of helping others feel comfortable and at ease. Her caring heart and down-to-earth personality always shined through. Though she'd never admit it, Wendy was truly a remarkable woman. Her passing has shattered the hearts of so many she has left behind. Her memory will live on in the hearts and minds of those who knew her, but we will forever miss the warm sunlight from her presence. The world has been made dimmer. Wendy is survived by her love of 21 years, Jeffrey Brown and their two children, Tori and Isaac Brown of Clayton, NC. Besides Wendy's mother and father, she also leaves behind a sister, April Stasinchak, a brother, Walter Daniel Stasinchak, and five nieces and nephews all from upstate New York. She is survived by her Uncle Terry and Aunt Diane Petroni and their two children, TJ and Angela, from New Jersey. In addition, Wendy also leaves behind a grandmother, Clara Taylor, from New Jersey. Please Join us to celebrate the life of Wendy Brown from 1-5pm Saturday October 16th @ Instill Distillery Co. (710 W. Main Street Ste. 111) in Clayton. Please share.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an obituary?

An obituary is a written notice that announces the death of a person, typically including their name, age, date of birth and death, and a brief biography. It may also include information about their family, accomplishments, and funeral or memorial services.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to inform friends, family, and community members of a person's passing, allowing them to pay their respects and offer condolences. They also provide a sense of closure and help to celebrate the life of the deceased.

Who writes an obituary?

Typically, a family member or close friend writes an obituary, but it can also be written by a funeral home or newspaper staff member. In some cases, the deceased may have written their own obituary in advance.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A typical obituary includes the person's name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, education, military service, hobbies, and surviving family members. It may also include information about funeral or memorial services and charitable donations in lieu of flowers.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary, but it's generally recommended to keep it concise and focused on the most important details. Aim for around 100-200 words.

Can I include photos in an obituary?

Yes, many newspapers and online obituary platforms allow you to include one or more photos with the obituary. This can help to make the tribute more personal and meaningful.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper?

Contact the newspaper's obituary department directly to inquire about their submission process and deadlines. Be prepared to provide the necessary information and payment for publication.

Can I write my own obituary?

Yes, you can write your own obituary in advance. This can be a therapeutic exercise and ensure that your life is celebrated in the way you want. Consider sharing it with your loved ones or storing it with your important documents.

What is the difference between an obituary and a death notice?

A death notice is a brief announcement of a person's passing, usually including only the basic facts. An obituary is a longer, more detailed tribute that celebrates the person's life and achievements.

Can I include humor in an obituary?

Absolutely! Humor can be a wonderful way to capture the personality and spirit of the deceased. Just be sure to keep it respectful and tasteful.

How much does it cost to publish an obituary?

Can I edit an obituary after it's been published?

This depends on the publication or platform. Some may allow edits or corrections, while others may not. Be sure to proofread carefully before submission to avoid errors.

What if I want to keep the obituary private?

Can I include quotes or lyrics in an obituary?

Absolutely! Quotes, lyrics, or poems can add depth and meaning to an obituary. Choose something that resonates with the deceased's personality or interests.

How do I handle errors or inaccuracies in an obituary?

Yes! You can still write and publish an obituary for someone who passed away years ago. This can be a meaningful way to honor their memory and share their story with others.

What if I'm struggling to write an obituary?

If you're having trouble writing an obituary, consider enlisting the help of a friend or family member. You can also look up examples online or consult with a funeral home or bereavement counselor for guidance.

This depends on the platform or website hosting the obituary. Some may allow links to memorial websites, social media profiles, or charity donation pages, while others may not.

How long will an online obituary remain available?

The duration of online availability varies depending on the platform or website. Some may keep archives indefinitely, while others may remove them after a certain period (e.g., 1-5 years).

Can I republish an obituary at a later date?

This depends on the original publication or platform. You may need permission from the copyright holder or pay for republication fees. Check their policies before proceeding.

What if I want to create a memorial website instead of an obituary?

You can create a memorial website using online platforms like Legacy.com, Tributes.com, or ForeverMissed.com. These sites often offer more flexibility and space for sharing stories, photos, and memories than traditional newspaper obituaries.

Can I include charitable donations information in an obituary?

Absolutely! Including information about charitable donations in lieu of flowers can be a meaningful way to honor the deceased's legacy and support their favorite causes.

How do I handle condolences and messages from strangers?

If you're receiving condolences from people you don't know through online platforms or social media, you can respond with a simple "thank you" or ignore them altogether. Be cautious when interacting with strangers online.

Can I use social media to share an obituary?

Yes! Social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn can be effective ways to share news of a loved one's passing and connect with others who want to pay their respects.
