Betty was born on August 17, 1923 in Monmouth, Illinois and is the daughter of Charles and Rachel Kinkaid Zielke. She was raised in the Fall Creek area of Rozetta Township where she attended local rural schools. Betty married James C. Alecock on October 13, 1946 at the home of her parents. James preceded her in death on August 9, 1972. Betty was a homemaker and worked the family farm with her husband. She was employed from 1975 to 1985 in the food service at Monmouth College. She was a member of Fall Creek United Methodist Church for 66 years. She then transferred her membership to the Aledo United Methodist Church on June 9, 1991. She currently is a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Milan, Illinois. Betty was gifted in baking, sewing, crewel embroidery and crochet. She loved tending to her flower garden wherever she lived. Betty was a master of jigsaw puzzles and shared this love with her friend Mary at Friendship Manor. She was a member of United Methodist Women and the Mercer County Senior Center while in Aledo. Betty's greatest love was for her family. Betty is survived by her daughter, Peggy (Patrick) Shovar of Andalusia, Illinois, three grandchildren; Ryan (Amanda Chong) Shovar, Travis (Tracy) Shovar, and Erin (Roger) Koehn, five great-grandchildren; Mallory and Makayla Shovar, Olivia Shovar, and Malena and Jackson Koehn. She is preceded in her death by her parents, husband James, and three brothers; Dean (Phyllis) Zielke, James (Martha) Zielke, and Raymond Zielke.

Kyle E. Terpening - January 18, 1923 - April 25, 2019

Obituary Preview: Kyle E. Terpening, age 96, of Monmouth, passed away at 2:09 pm on April 25, 2019 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois. Kyle was born on January 18, 1923 in rural Coldbrook, Illinois and is the son of Wilbur and Mabel Swagert Terpening. He was raised in rural Coldbrook where he attended country school and attended and graduated from Galesburg High School with the class of 1941. Kyle married Dorothy L. Johnson on December 6, 1945 in Monmouth, Illinois and she preceded him in death on July 31, 2007. Kyle has been a farmer in Warren County for his entire career in grain and livestock. He also was a seed dealer for several companies over the many years. Kyle is a long-time member of First Lutheran Church and has served on it's church board in prior years. He has also service on the board of the Warren County Farm Bureau and the check off board of the Illinois Soybean Association. Kyle won the F S yield contest in 1974 and was an honorary member of FFA. Kyle owned both John Deere and Allis Chalmers equipment over the years and was a member of the Maple City Antique Tractor Association.
Surviving are two sons, Kevin and Nancy Terpening of Knoxville, Illinois and Dennis and Becky Terpening of Kirkwood, Illinois. There are seven grandchildren, Karl Terpening, and Paul (Kaylin) Terpening, Eric (Chely) Terpening, Beth Terpening, Carmen (Gerald) Williams, Georgia (Rocky) Caulkins and Rocky Caulkins. One great grandson, Blake Caulkins and three great granddaughters, Callie Caulkins, Maci Caulkins, and Karley Williams are all surviving.
He is preceded in his death by his parents and his wife.

Jane married William Carr Osborn on December 16, 1961 in Dixon, Illinois and he preceded her in death on May 22, 2014. Jane enjoyed reading and caring for her many pet dogs. She is survived by her two daughters, Alane Osborn in Florida, and Jenny Osborn (Barb) of Monmouth, Illinois. There is one son, Michael H. Osborn of Jacksonville, Illinois also surviving. There are four grandchildren and a number of great grandchildren also surviving. She is preceded in her death by her parents, husband, and one son, William.

Katie attended Lone Star rural school, Monmouth Public Schools, and also Law School. She then graduated from Monmouth High School with the class of 1951. On May 17, 1959, she married Theodore "Pete" Lundeen in Monmouth, Illinois and he is surviving. Katie first worked for the Colonial Nursing Home in Monmouth as a nurses aid. She later worked as a secretary for State Farm Insurance here iu Monmouth. Katie loved her family and friends. She enjoyed collecting roosters, both pictures and ceramics. Katie is survived by her husband Pete of Kewanee, Illinois, one daughter, Kristen Zeigler of Kewanee, Illinois, one son, DuWayne Lundeen and Stephanie, of Kewanee, Illinois, five grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Wanda Wade of Galesburg, Illinois and one brother, Richard Sipes of Galesburg, Illinois. She is preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Glenda Beniot and Imogene Clark, and two brothers, Vernon Sipes and George Sipes.

He later attended McMurray College in Jacksonville, Illinois where he attained his BA. Sean worked for Warren Achievement Center in Monmouth, Illinois and the Special Olympics, where he very much enjoyed working with his clients. He also worked for the Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center and lastly as a patient advocate for the Silvis Nursing Home. Sean loved sports and was a huge fan of the Michigan Wolverines, Green Bay Packers, and the St. Louis Cardinals. He loved his family and friends and enjoyed trips to the Wisconsin Dells with his daughter and friends. Sean is survived by his mother, Sandra Abbadusky of Monmouth, Illinois, his daughter, Makenna Abbadusky of East Moline, Illinois, one sister, Lannette (Jim) Ferch of Monmouth, Illinois, and numerous cousins. Also surviving are many friends and his faithful companion "Rocky". He is preceded in death by his father.

Frank was born on April 9, 1916 in Lewistown, Illinois and is the son of Frank Henry and Bertha Lee Poland Humphrey. Frank was married to Erma Nadine Stufflebeam on January 26, 1936 in Peoria Heights, Illinois and she preceded him in death on February 20, 2003. Frank was a welder by trade and first worked at Caterpillar Company. He later worked in several mines as a welder and lastly was with the Illinois Department of Transportation in Monmouth, from 1966 to 1976 and his retirement. Frank is survived by his son, Steve A Humphrey of Linn, Missouri and his granddaughter, Jennifer Humphrey (Jessica Kierson) of Lawrence, Kansas and grandson, Mike Humphrey (Amanda) also of Lawrence, Kansas. There are two great granddaughters, Penelope and Eliza surviving. Frank is preceded in his death by his parents, wife, and his son, David.

Frank was born on June 28, 1930 in Peoria, Illinois and is the son of Clarence F. and Pearl Alexander Kellogg. Frank's early life was in Peoria and Monmouth, Illinois. He attended the Reynolds High School. Frank nobly served his country and was a Private First Class in the Army during the Korean War. He married Erma Jean Howe on April 5, 1949 in Monmouth, Illinois and she is surviving. Frank began work at the Ford Garage in Monmouth and later was at the Chevrolet Garage for a number of years. He then was partner with Jerry Sheese and owned and operated the Kellogg and Sheese Automotive Service here in Monmouth, for many years. Lastly the business was carried on by his son, Roger Kellogg. Frank is an active member and a past post commander of the Marion B. Fletcher Post 136 and a member of the J.W. Clendenin Post 2301, where he for a number of years was active in the Honor Guard presenting military honors for many. Frank was a member of the Burlington Moose Lodge 579 and is member of First Christian Church in Monmouth. Frank and Erma also enjoyed dancing and danced as often as they could. Surviving Frank is his wife Erma Jean Kellogg of Monmouth, Illinois and his son, Roger Kellogg also of Monmouth, Illinois. There are five granddaughters, Jeni Twist (Michael) of Athens, IL, Jesi Spears (Pat) of Monmouth, IL, Jaki Kellogg of Monmouth, IL, Jodi Brown of Alexis, IL, and Joni Kellogg (Bryon) of Urbana, IL. Also surviving are ten great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Frank is preceded in his death by his parents, one son, Gary, two sisters, and four brothers.

He was previously married to Beatrice L. Simmons and later was married to Sylvia Ebert and both are surviving. Don farmed the family farm near Kirkwood throughout his entire career and was a life-time farmer. He also did custom corn shelling for a number of years with Dean. Donald also operated a Livestock Trucking Business for many years locally. Donald loved family picnics and gatherings and devoted his entire life to working with cattle and hogs and calving. Don was a 65 year member of A. Lincoln #518 Masonic Lodge. Donald is survived by two daughters, Donna (George) Carson of Colchester, Illinois and Diana (Roger) Keever of Kirkwood, Illinois, three sons, Bill Smith of Gladstone, Illinois, Bruce (Anita) Smith of Biggsville, Illinois, and Brian (Chrissy) Smith of Rural Kirkwood, Illinois, six grandchildren; Dana (Ron) Ross, Deana (Mark) Twenhafel, Kari (Will) Hall, Shana (Brett) Kennon, Alicia (Gavin) Mitchell, Brandy (R.K.) Howell, thirteen great-grandchildren, and one brother, Jim Smith of Dubuque, Iowa. A number of other relatives also survive. He was born on April 6, 1949 in Monmouth, Illinois, the son of George Henry and Mary Elizabeth (Mackey) Fesler. Leonard attended and graduated from Warren High School. He proudly served his Country with the United States Army. Leonard served as an M-P during the Vietnam conflict. On April 3, 1982, he married Cindy Weir at the Immanuel Baptist Church in Monmouth, Illinois and she is surviving. Leonard worked the family farm for many years with his brother until the early 1990's. He then worked as a farm hand for Doug Cruce Farms and Tom Parrish Farms. Leonard enjoyed tinkering, machinery, cutting firewood for the woodstove, and International Harvester Tractors. He loved to attend tractor shows. Leonard also loved gardening, and couldn't wait for sweet potato digging. Leonard is survived by his wife Cindy at home, two sons, Curtis Fesler and Clinton Felster, both of Cameron, Illinois, and one brother, Richard Fesler of Berwick, Illinois. He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Ray.

Everitt F. Hardin - May 11, 1925 - March 06, 2019

Obituary Preview: Everitt Fee Hardin, 93, of Monmouth, IL, passed away at 12:23 am on Wednesday, March 6, 2019, at Roseville Rehabilitation & Health Care in Roseville, IL. Born on May 11, 1925, in Monmouth, IL, he was the son of Delevan B. and Bess (Fee) Hardin. He was the 5th generation of the Hardin family in Monmouth. He attended Monmouth Public Schools after which he entered the United States Military Academy (USMA) at West Point and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant, Cavalry, United States Army in 1946. Following the Basic Armor Officer course at Fort Knox, KY, he was assigned to the 2nd Constabulary Regiment in Augsburg, Germany, in 1947. He served as a company officer in 3 different companies of the 2nd Armored Cavalry, 2nd Squadron, during the 3 years he was stationed in Germany.
While stationed in Germany, he married Jane Bruington Walker of Monmouth, in Augsburg on July 31, 1949. She preceded him in death on March 28, 2018. Following his return to the United States in 1950, he joined the 2nd Armored Division at Fort Hood, TX, as a tank company commander. He also served as an Advanced Armor Officer at Fort Knox, KY; a Company Tactical Officer for the USMA Department of Tactics; an exchange officer at the US Naval Academy; and served in the 83rd Reconnaissance of the 3rd Armored Division at Fort Knox.
In 1955 he returned to Monmouth where his family had conducted a commercial banking business since 1870. He began his banking career at the Second National Bank of Monmouth in 1956, completed the Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin in 1959, and was elected as the 7th President of Second National Bank in 1963. Following the dissolution of that bank in 1964, he was an organizer of Community National Bank in Monmouth where he served as President from 1964-1994.
Mr. Hardin was active in his community over those years and served on the Monmouth City Planning Commission and the Warren County Public Library for 40 years each. He also served on the boards of the Warren County YMCA, Citizens Lake, Monmouth Rotary Club, City of Monmouth Zoning Board of Appeals, Buchanan Center for the Arts, and the Monmouth Firefighters Pension Fund. Mr. Hardin was a longtime member of Faith United Presbyterian Church where he was an Ordained Elder and Trustee. He enjoyed tutoring elementary students in the Monmouth Public Schools.
At the age of 50, Mr. Hardin discovered backpacking. For the next 25 years he hiked parts of 3 National Scenic trails in the US, the Bruce Trail in Canada, and then visited northern Alaska many times, mostly in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. One of his most memorable trips was a 100-mile hike north across the Brooks Range to the Arctic Ocean.
He is survived by one son, Douglas D. Hardin of Monmouth, IL; four daughters: Susan E. (Abiel) Garza of Dallas, TX; Caroline "Lin" H. Inoue of Santa Fe, NM; Margaret "Meg" H. (Rob) Lindsay of Spokane, WA; Sarah J. Willett of Cameron, IL; sister-in-law Jane W. Walker of Monmouth, IL; 9 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; 2 nieces; and 3 nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Jane, sister Mary Ann Miller, brother-in-law F. Stuart Walker, and daughter-in-law Constance H. Hardin.

She was born May 22, 1934 in Davenport, Iowa, the daughter of Norris Oakley and Caroline (Connors) Thorndike. Darlene attended school in Davenport, Iowa. On October 24, 1950, she married Roy E. Hoskins in Keithsburg, Illinois and he is surviving. Darlene was a self-taught chef. She taught at and opened many restaurants in her career, namely Bishop's Restaurants. She also cooked for many years at the Aledo Country Club and had people traveled from miles to enjoy her cooking. Darlene was an artistic person who loved crafts and reading. Most of all, she shared deep love and compassion for her family. Darlene is survived by one son, Jackie Dale (Erlinda) Hoskins of Coal Valley, Illinois, three daughters, Vicke (Gerry) Larson of Aledo, Illinois; Susan (Dennis) Chase of Oquawka, Illinois; and Sondra Hoskins of Oquawka, Illinois, . Also surviving are many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, one sister, six brothers, and infant twin siblings at birth.

Sullivan on October 14, 1958 in Decatur, Illinois and she preceded him in death on May 31, 2012. Bud was an over the road truck driver all his life and enjoyed driving for various companies. He also very much enjoyed fishing where ever he was. Bud is survived by his daughter, Birgit Voeghtly of Federal Way, Washington and his sister, Helen Branham of Grants Pass, Oregon as well as a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is preceded in his death by his parents, wife, two sisters, Marian and Betty and one brother, Bob.

He married Betty Jean Hess on May 4, 1952 in Monmouth, Illinois and she preceded him in her death on October 9, 2002. Richard first began work at Larson Furniture Store in Monmouth and then at the Rivoli Theatre. He then was an over-the-road driver and was in business with his father operating Millard Trucking, locally. Lastly Richard was employed as a Forman at Maytag in Galesburg for many years until his retirement in 1996. He always enjoyed spending time with family, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. His hobbies included hunting, woodworking, mushrooming, and going fishing with Charlie. Richard is survived by two daughters, Cindy (Dale McKillip) Boyd of Galesburg, Illinois and Kathy (John Bunch) Millard of Macomb, Illinois. There are four granddaughters, Jody (David Nash) Riedel, Alyssa and Aleeah Bunch, and Shannon VanBrooker. There are three great granddaughters, Kaitlyn (Mariah) Riedel, Shelbi Nash, and Natalie Boyd, and two great grandsons, Cody (Vanessa) Riedel and Anthony Rohr. One sister is also surviving, Bonnie Bell of Galesburg, Illinois. There are also a number of nieces, nephews, and other relatives surviving. He is preceded in his death by wife, grandson, Robbie Boyd, brothers, Ron, Gary, and Ed Millard, and sisters, Peg Schisler and Diane Tarr.

Rule White, Jr. She was raised in rural Monmouth where she attended school and she graduated from Warren High School in 1964. She began work at the Italian Village in Monmouth for a time and was a homemaker. She then attended Carl Sandburg College where she attained her certification as a Certified Nurses Assistant and has been employed at Cottage Hospital for over twenty years. Helen loved all animals and very much her family. She was an avid supporter of the Humane Society. Surviving are two sons, John D. Noonan (Amy) of DesMoines, Iowa and Jim D. Noonan (Angie) of Galesburg, Illinois. One granddaughter survives, Ava Jane "A.J." Noonan and two sisters, Pat Myers of Council Bluffs, Iowa and Barbara White of Monmouth, Illinois. Her brother Lee T. "Bud" White III (Carol) of Galesburg, Illinois is also surviving. Preceding her in death are her parents and her son, John Noonan.

She was born on October 30, 1933, the daughter of Frederick "Art" and Eva "Foustine" (Mincher) Hoy. Dolores was a graduate of Monmouth High School, where she was awarded letters in typing and shorthand. Dolores medaled in many state competitions. She later took many classes at Carl Sandburg College in Galesburg, Illinois. She married Sammy Eugene Clark on October 30, 1949 in Monmouth, Illinois and he preceded her in death on January 5, 1983. Dolores later married Harland Paul Sollenberger and he passed on March 15, 1997. She began work at a local law office while in high school. Dolores later worked at the offices of Vitality Mills and General Telephone, and she was the Monmouth City Collector for 15 years. She worked at El Segundo Restaurant and the Elks Club for a time. Dolores later worked as a group home administrator for Warren Achievement Center in Monmouth for 15 years where she was honored for her work by Congress. Dolores was a Certified C.P.R. Instructor for the American Red Cross. In retirement, she kept records at the Strom Center until October, 2017. Dolores was Baptized at the Ninth Avenue UP Church on April 10, 1938 and joined the congregation on April 4, 1948. She later transferred to the West Side UP Church, the Heritage UP Church, where she was a Deacon and Treasurer for many years. Later, Dolores was a member of the First Christian Church, and recently, Immanuel Baptist Church. She was involved in numerous Church activities. Dolores loved puzzles, sewing, embroidery, puppies, and kitties. Dolores was a member of the Women's Auxiliary of the V.F.W. Clark, Thomas Clark, and Samuel Clark. She is also survived by many great-grandchildren and nieces Cindy Romano and Pamela Jo Brown, and nephews Keith Hoy and Joseph E. Clark. She worked 33 years for Maytag in Galesburg, Illinois as an assembler and a door repair technician. Linda always joked that she was "not the lonely repair person". She retired from Maytag January of 2000. Almost every Saturday morning, Linda met with her longtime friend Bonnie for breakfast and shopping. She enjoyed bowling and participated in leagues in Galesburg. Linda loved her grandchildren and tried to attend every event they participated in. Evelyn was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and enjoyed playing cards with her family and friends. She is survived by her daughter, Glenda Whitman of Monmouth; and two grandsons, Tracy and Craig Whitman, both of Monmouth. Also surviving is one sister, Martha Martin of Green Castle, IN. and her special devoted friend Pat Parrish. Evelyn is preceded in death by her parents, husband, son in law Harry Whitman, and one sister in law. A graveside service is planned on Thursday, February 21st at 10:30 am at Warren County Memorial Park Cemetery Mausoleum. Genevieve taught home economics at Monmouth High School and West Marshall High School in State Center, Iowa. She also taught many adult education classes with subjects ranging from creating microwave and crock pot meals to holiday gingerbread houses. She loved to sew, knit, crochet, bake, and spend time with friends and family.
Genevieve was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church; in Monmouth, Marshalltown and Clinton, Iowa. She was active in many areas of the church, but her primary interests were United Methodist Women and Missions. In retirement, Genevieve and Gene were involved in NOMADS, a group dedicated to providing volunteer labor for United Methodist Church organizations.
Genevieve is survived by two daughters, Cynthia (Michael) Porter of Menasha, Wisconsin; and Diana Gay (Timothy) Nichols of Wichita, Kansas; two sons, Thomas (Candy Smith) Hiett of Monmouth, Illinois; and John (Mary Adams) Hiett of Iowa City, Iowa; two sisters, Virginia Carlson of Galesburg, Illinois; and Joan Beasley of Quincy, Illinois; and one daughter-in-law, Karen Higgins of Phoenix, Arizona. She is also survived by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Genevieve was preceded in death by her parents; husband; infant daughter, Amy; son, Andrew; and daughter-in-law, Peggy Hiett.

He was a member of the First Christian Church in Monmouth.
Dean is survived by his wife Belinda of Monmouth, IL, two children, Sandy (Tom) Galusha of Rural Monmouth and Rick Armstrong of Rural Little York, IL, There are five grandchildren, Brandon and Michael Galusha, Amy Burton, Katie Lucas, and Jennifer Armstrong.
