His example was a lighthouse of encouragement, strength, and solid values. He taught at South Pontotoc, South Panola and retired from Shannon High School. He was born June 10, 1934 in Kennedy, Alabama and lived a long life with his wife of almost seventy years, Sarah, by his side until the very end. Jack had a deep appreciation of country music, loved watching Alabama football (Roll Tide!), and never met a stranger. When he spoke of his grandchildren his face lit up with a smile, and he maintained a close relationship with his three children.
Jack graduated from Kennedy High School where he played football and made many lifelong friends. He was a construction electrician for over 40 years and was a proud member of IBEW Local Union 917. He was quick with a joke and was a true “people person”. He was an active member of Fairview Baptist Church and had great friendships with the men in his Sunday School class.
We all know Jack lived to be 89 largely because of his wife’s good cooking. He relished watermelon, homegrown tomatoes, peas and cornbread with milk, and other good country food. His backyard included a bountiful garden that he diligently tended, and he generously shared homegrown vegetables with friends and family. His grandchildren remember their Papa always having a freezer full of ice cream and a joke at the ready. He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by many.

Why are obituaries important?
