She lived in South Chicago, but Robert was undeterred by the trolley and two train rides it took to reach her, some nights taking two and a half hours each way. His dedication paid off with a wedding in August of 1953 shortly after graduation.
Robert continued to be a rolling stone. He and Marion moved to Elizabeth, NJ where he began working for Esso Engineering. It wasn’t long before he was drafted into the army and saw six postings in four states in two years. In the meantime, Robert and Marion brought their son Robert and daughter Linda into the world. Once back in civilian life at Esso in New Jersey again, third child Richard was added to the crew.
Professionally, Robert was ready for a new challenge and signed on with General Electric in their Silicones division, necessitating another move to Niskayuna, NY where child number four, Thomas, joined the brood. Months later, GE tapped him to move to Connecticut and the family set up house in the charming enclave of Newtown, CT where the final three children, twins Mary and Mark, and the youngest, John completed the tribe.
Robert's move to GE was very rewarding, and he moved up through the company with citations for increasing sales and expanding markets. GE decided to they needed him in an area with underutilized potential, and so the Daileader clan relocated one last time to the area of upstate New York. Robert was based in Waterford, NY and the family moved into a house in nearby Clifton Park. Robert and Marion finished raising their brood there and remained until their retirement. They eventually down-sized to join the Coburg Village coterie in Rexford where they spent many happy years of well-earned relaxation. Eventually they relocated north to Saratoga Springs to be closer to the comfort and care of family.
Amid travel for work and the bustle of a family of seven children, Robert still found time to enjoy many hands-on hobbies. He loved to build and finish furniture, to raise tropical fish, to pursue photography and to craft wooden model ships, leaving behind over two dozen historical replicas with his children and grandchildren. He also would spend hours fishing whenever he got the chance.
All his life, Robert loved the eastern end of Long Island, where he traveled from a young age with his own parents to Sag Harbor, summered with his wife and children on Shelter Island, and cherished the late summer sunsets over West Neck Bay.
He is predeceased by his beloved wife Marion and his two brothers, William and Phillip, and by his daughter-in-law, Trudy Frantz Daileader, late wife of his son Thomas.
Survivors include Robert and his wife Dale of McLean, VA; Linda Swenson of Stamford, CT; Richard and his wife Laura Lawton of Cedar Mountain, NC; Thomas of Newport, RI; Mary Greenier and her husband Ernie of Gansevoort, NY; Mark and his wife Susan of Scituate, MA; John and his wife Mimi of Shelter Island, NY. He also leaves behind 23 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

Burial will be at 12:30 pm following the Mass at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville, NY 12871. Michael T. Casey - December 30, 1959 - August 22, 2023

Departed: 08/22/2023 ( Saratoga Springs)
Obituary Preview: Michael T. Casey of Saratoga Springs died on August 22nd as the result of injuries sustained in a tragic
bicycle accident. He was 63. Michael’s family was the center of his universe. He leaves behind his life partner, Janet Galligani Casey, to whom he was married for 36 years, as well as his two children, Liam Casey of Astoria, NY and Fiona Casey of Malden, MA. They are shattered by their loss but remind themselves that Michael’s last
moments of awareness were spent on a bike, doing something he loved. Michael lived life with optimism, humor, intellectual curiosity, and enormous energy. He was well
known among his family and friends for his intensity: when he decided to do something, he was all in. He was an outdoor enthusiast who loved to bike, hike, snowshoe, and kayak; an accomplished baker and cook; a voracious and wide-ranging reader; and an ardent Boston sports fan. He was also a lifelong lover of music and patron of the local arts scene; he and Janet were regulars at Caffe Lena, the Saratoga Performing Arts Center, and the Arthur Zankel Music Center, among other venues. In recent years they purchased a cottage in the Adirondacks, where Michael threw himself into property improvements and relished lakeside vacations with his family and close friends, the Lachance-Laubers. He was always up for another dinner party, another golf outing, another hike with Liam, or another Celtics game with Fiona; his circle could count on him for the best wine and whiskey, and for lively conversation and
storytelling. He commented frequently that his life was blessed. Michael approached his career with similar passion and with integrity. He graduated from Harvard University in 1981 and initially worked for the Boston Publishing Company, co-authoring two books in The Vietnam Experience series. Shortly after moving to Baltimore in 1987 he became an Advancement professional, beginning at the Baltimore Museum of Art and eventually settling in academia. Early positions at Franklin & Marshall College and Wesleyan University led to his lengthy role as Collyer VP for Advancement at Skidmore College (2000-17). At the time of his death he was in his seventh year as VP for Advancement at Trinity College in Hartford, CT. Michael dedicated himself to mentoring others in the field, and kept in regular contact with colleagues far and wide. He also believed strongly in the importance of community and volunteered his time and expertise to various organizations and civic groups in Saratoga Springs, including Saratoga ArtsFest, the Waldorf School of Saratoga Springs, the
Saratoga Regional YMCA, and the Saratoga Convention & Tourism Bureau. In addition to Janet, Liam, and Fiona, Michael is survived by his brother Ned (Manda) of Morgantown, KY and sister Mary of Cambridge, MA. He was predeceased by his brother Joseph (Ellie) of East Dennis,
MA. He is also survived by many loving extended family members in his and Janet’s families.
Michael was thoughtful and deliberate about philanthropy in both his personal and professional lives. The family suggests that donations in his name be made to any of the following: financial aid programs
at Trinity College or Skidmore College; Caffe Lena; or Protect the Adirondacks.
A celebration of Michael’s life will be held sometime in the fall. Arrangements are entrusted to the Tunison Funeral Home 105 Lake Ave. Saratoga Springs, NY 12866

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an obituary?

An obituary is a written notice that announces the death of a person, typically including their name, age, date of birth and death, and a brief biography. It may also include information about their family, accomplishments, and funeral or memorial service arrangements.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to inform friends, family, and community members of a person's passing, allowing them to pay their respects and offer condolences. They also provide a lasting tribute to the deceased, preserving their memory and legacy for future generations.

Who typically writes an obituary?

The responsibility of writing an obituary usually falls on the family members or close friends of the deceased. In some cases, a funeral home or crematorium may assist with writing the obituary or provide a template to help guide the process.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A typical obituary includes the deceased person's full name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, education, hobbies, achievements, and surviving family members. It may also mention any notable accomplishments, awards, or charitable organizations they were involved with.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary depending on the publication or online platform it will be published in. Generally, it should be concise and to the point, ranging from 100 to 500 words.

Can I include photos in an obituary?

Yes, many publications and online platforms allow you to include one or more photos with the obituary. This can be a great way to personalize the tribute and make it more engaging.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper or online platform?

The submission process varies depending on the publication or platform. You can usually find guidelines on their website or by contacting their customer service department directly. Be prepared to provide the written obituary, payment information (if applicable), and any required documentation.

How much does it cost to publish an obituary?

The cost of publishing an obituary varies widely depending on the publication, location, and length of the obituary. Some newspapers and online platforms offer free or low-cost options, while others may charge several hundred dollars.

Can I write my own obituary before I pass away?

Yes, it is becoming increasingly common for people to write their own obituaries in advance. This can be a therapeutic exercise and ensure that your life story is told in your own words.

What is the difference between an obituary and a death notice?

A death notice is a brief announcement of a person's passing, typically including only basic information such as name, age, and date of death. An obituary is a longer, more detailed tribute that provides a summary of the person's life and accomplishments.

Can I include humor or personal anecdotes in an obituary?

Absolutely! An obituary should reflect the personality and spirit of the deceased. Including humorous stories or personal anecdotes can make the tribute more engaging and memorable.

How do I handle sensitive or difficult information in an obituary?

If there are sensitive or difficult aspects of the deceased person's life that you're unsure how to address in the obituary, it's best to consult with family members or close friends to determine what information should be shared publicly.

Can I include charitable donations or memorial information in an obituary?

Yes, many families choose to include information about charitable donations or memorial funds in lieu of flowers. This can be a meaningful way to honor the deceased person's legacy and support a cause they cared about.

How long does it take for an obituary to be published?

The timeframe for publishing an obituary varies depending on the publication or platform. Online platforms may publish immediately, while print newspapers may take several days or even weeks.

How do I find old obituaries?

You can search online archives of newspapers or genealogy websites like Ancestry.com or Findmypast.com. Local libraries or historical societies may also maintain archives of old newspapers and obituaries.

Are there any specific guidelines for writing an obituary for a veteran?

Can I include quotes or lyrics in an obituary?

Absolutely! Quotes or lyrics that resonate with the deceased person's life or personality can add depth and meaning to the tribute.

How do I ensure that an online obituary remains accessible over time?

MOST online platforms archive obituaries indefinitely. However, it's always a good idea to save a copy of the obituary locally or print out a hard copy for safekeeping.

Can I create a digital memory book or scrapbook alongside an online obituary?

How do I handle condolence messages and guestbook entries?

MANY online platforms provide guestbooks or condolence message sections where friends and family can leave messages. You can also set up a physical guestbook at funeral services or memorial events.

What is the etiquette for responding to condolence messages?
