Carol Spurlin (DeJarnette) Knaus - September 27, 1941 - April 06, 2024

Departed: 04/06/2024 (Georgetown)
Obituary Preview: Carol Spurlin (DeJarnette) Knaus, age 82, wife of Stephen Knaus, died Saturday, April 6, 2024 at her home in Georgetown, Kentucky.
Carol was born in Richmond, Kentucky, the third of three daughters of the late Thomas Jefferson Spurlin and Allie Ruth Moores Spurlin. Carol was a graduate of Model High School class of 1959. She graduated with a BS in Education from Eastern Kentucky University in 1962.
Carol spent the first part of her professional career as a teacher in both Kentucky and New York, but her entrepreneurial spirit could be seen throughout her life. As a teenager, she raised and sold cattle on her parent’s farm. In the 80s and 90s, Carol owned and operated a mail order business and The Treasure Shop, in Kinderhook, New York. In 2003 Carol and Steve purchased Dieckelmann Self Storage and transformed part of the property into a Christian Conference Center, which became home to many churches over the years.
At the center of Carol’s life, you would find Jesus. Through all her stages of life she could be found either volunteering or sitting on a leadership team at church. Carol worked with Stonecroft Ministries’ Christian Women’s Club for over 25 years where she openly shared her testimony and sought to lead women to The Lord. Carol changed a lot of lives, and she did so quietly. She firmly believed in restoring and maintaining people’s dignity.
Carol loved her family. She poured into and encouraged her children. She was over the moon in love with her grandchildren, often saying becoming a grandparent was like being hit with a “love bomb.” She became a great grandmother just prior to her passing and was so thankful to know baby Jack was here and healthy. Carol was a woman of prayer and the prayer answered most completely in her life was Steve Knaus. Carol asked for a tall, bald man who was sold out for Christ, and God delivered Steve. Their 24 years together were full of ministry, generosity, laughter, and so much love. Their dedication to CBN Ministries allowed them to travel to over 10 countries. Carol often tried to articulate just how perfect Steve was for her and how much joy he brought to her life, but there simply weren’t words.
In addition to her husband, Carol is survived by children, Jeffrey and Julie DeJarnette, grandchildren Natalie DeJarnette (Bryan Belanger), Amelia DeJarnette (Peter Humphreys), Kristin Smothermon (Drew Cole) and Logan Smothermon, great grandson, Jack, sister Barbara Perkins, nieces, nephews, and a host of loving friends. In addition to her parents, Carol is predeceased by her sister Dr. Martha Grise, niece Jane Carol Thacker, and her closest friend, Wanda Gaston. If there’s such a thing as Heavenly Shenanigans, Carol and Wanda can be found in the middle of them.
Visitations are planned for Wednesday April 10th 6-8 pm, at Tucker Yocum, & Wilson Funeral Home in Georgetown, KY., and Thursday, April 11th 10 am to 12 pm at First Christian Church, 412 West Main Street, Richmond, Kentucky. Service will begin at 12 pm. Burial will follow at Richmond Cemetery. A memorial service will be held in Kinderhook, New York at a later date.
