Joseph Wolfrey Parry-Hill - June 25, 1940 - April 24, 2022

Departed: 04/24/2022 (Greensboro)
Obituary Preview: Joseph “Joe” Wolfrey Parry-Hill, Jr passed away peacefully April 24, 2022 at Friends Home in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Joe was humble, generous, tough, hard-working, and infinitely curious. He gave freely, possessed a sharp wit, held an affinity for concrete, and a loathing for squirrels. He loved to garden. The man could dig a hole like nobody’s business. He loved British cars, and later Volvos until they were ruined by Ford. He could recite Kipling and Homer, but also disassemble and repair a water pump. Most of all, he was best at doting on his grandchildren, who affectionately called him “Grumpus.”
Born in the back of a typewriter repair shop in Philadelphia, PA, his family moved to rural Pennsylvania and then Washington, DC. Growing up he helped support the family by working construction, delivering newspapers, repairing boilers, and other odd jobs, often at night.
He obtained an Associate’s Degree in Psychology from Wesley College with the help of a benefactor and the Methodist Church. He then earned a scholarship to attend West Virginia Wesleyan University, receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in 1963.
After graduation he served in the United States Army from 1963-1965. The Army changed his life trajectory, and brought him to Raleigh, North Carolina where he was introduced on a blind date to the love of his life, Helen Kay Hightower. He and Kay enjoyed 43 years of marriage and raised two children, William and Jennifer.
He continued his education while he worked, earning a Master’s Degree from North Carolina State University in 1973 and Doctorate of Philosophy in 1985. He loved the Wolfpack, a frustrating condition he shared with his children.
He believed passionately in the power of education to transform lives and lift people out of poverty as it had for him. He dedicated his entire life to public education and giving back.
In retirement he volunteered as an academic tutor, with Backpack Buddies, and numerous other organizations. He and Kay were early organizers and volunteers with the Triangle AIDS Interfaith Network (TRAIN). A man of faith, he was active at White Memorial Presbyterian Church where he enjoyed fellowship with his Sunday School class, and operated the audio and visual equipment during services.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife Kay, and his brothers Jay and Jerome. He is survived by his son Joseph William (Danielle) Parry-Hill of Raleigh, daughter Jennifer Kay (Benjamin) Kunka of Greensboro, grandchildren Sofia, Thomas, and Clyde, and siblings Jessie, Janet, Jane, Jean, and James.
A memorial service will be held May 6 at 11:00 a.m. at White Memorial Presbyterian Church in Raleigh.
Joe often said that “the only thing you can take to the grave is your name.” In that spirit, in lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to the Interfaith Food Shuttle and Transitions LifeCare.
Triad Cremation & Funeral Service is honorably serving the family.

Cecil Graham Livengood - October 11, 1926 - April 22, 2022

Departed: 04/22/2022 (Greensboro)
Obituary Preview: Cecil Graham Livengood, 95, slipped the surly bonds of earth on Friday, April 22, 2022. Born on October 11, 1926, on a farm in Woodleaf, NC, to the late Jacob Ralph Livengood and Zula McDaniel Livengood, his family moved to Concord when he was a young boy. Developing a passion for flying at an early age, he worked two paper routes to pay for flying lessons and received his pilot’s license after his solo flight on his sixteenth birthday, before he could drive a car. Flying became a life-long hobby. Upon graduation from Concord High School, he enlisted into the Army Air Corps in WWII to train for another pilot’s license, but the war ended before he could accomplish that. Following the war, he was honorably discharged at the rank of First Lieutenant, then used the G.I. Bill to study electrical engineering at N.C. State. He took and passed the N.C. exam for professional engineering. During this time, he met a young woman at a church event, Concord native Rebecca Simpson, daughter of Ruth and Rev. John Simpson. They married on September 6, 1947, and the union produced three children, lasting until Becky’s death in 2019. Cecil took a job at Bell Laboratories in Winston-Salem and spent his entire career as an electrical engineer for various branches of AT&T. His work led him to spend many weeks in such locations as Iceland, Guam, Alaska, and Hawaii, including an entire summer at NORAD in Colorado. He retired as a senior engineer after 40 years of service. He moved to Greensboro, NC in 1964, and with the exception of five years in Naperville, IL from 1976 to 1981, he spent the rest of his life in Greensboro.
He and his wife Becky enjoyed traveling to most of the states as well as some European countries. During this time, he delighted in flying his Cessna on trips around the Southeast and Midwest, including the annual fly-in for pilots from all over the world in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. He was a third-degree Mason and member of the Revolution Lodge. Cecil was an active member of First Baptist Church, serving as a Sunday School teacher for over 30 years. He often served on the Board of Deacons, served on the Finance Committee, and went on mission trips building twenty churches from Maryland to Georgia.

Arthur Reginald Little - December 22, 1969 - April 13, 2022

Departed: 04/13/2022 (Greensboro)
Obituary Preview: The world received Arthur Reginald Little December 22, 1969. He was born in the Bronx, NY and ascended on April 13, 2022 in Winston, Salem NC. He is survived by his seven children, Jaimie Coulter, Jessica Little, Jordan Westbrook, Jakora Little, Jahrie Little, Jalil Little, and Alexandria Coulter. He was predeceased by Marcia Little and Wayne Brown.  Arthur was a man whose soul spoke a language that reached many. He never turned down a conversation and could always make a new friend. His heart of gold and no-nonsense mentality clashed in the most beautiful way; allowing him to love you using the same intensity he cursed you out with. He had a family first mentality and would go to the ends of the earth for the ones he loved. He was a son, brother, father, and close friend. Some also knew him as The General. The General was a name coined as a result of his forward-thinking persona that allowed him to gain control, bring communities together, and come up with a plan in the midst of even the most hectic scenarios. In his most vulnerable state he was a kid a heart who loved amusement parks and scary rides (you could say he was a thrill seeker in all aspects of his life). I hope it soothes aching hearts to know that on this day he is at peace. A peace he has earned through the work he has put in throughout his entire lifetime. He is loved always, and will be missed dearly.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, April 23, 2022 at 9:30 am at Triad Cremation & Funeral Service with a Celebration of Life following at 10:30 am.
Arrangements are entrusted to Triad Cremation & Funeral Service, 2110 Servomation Road, Greensboro, NC 27407.
