John Scheckel - September 05, 1948 - June 24, 2023

Departed: 06/24/2023 (Lyons)
Obituary Preview: June 24, 2023
Today I lost my husband and best friend, John. He died of heart failure, C.O.P.D., and diabetes. We would have been married 12 years on July 2. When we got married, at the beginning of the Mass, John started with one son, John Paul (Becky). When the Mass ended, John became a father to Kelly (Mike) and Connie (Adam), and a grandfather to Dominic and Brian. There were no “steps” in our world! To us, we were all one family. By 2016, we added four more grandchildren; Marty, Jack, Alexander, and Millie. How John loved those kids! We survived moving to a new home, traveling the country and Europe, as well as adjusting to a walker, oxygen tanks, and his favorite: his motorized scooter! The kids really enjoyed riding on it as much as he did. John is now celebrating with his family: his parents, John and Rita, his first wife Judy, his brother Michael, brothers-in-law Tony Alevras, Julius Zimbardi, and Fr. Jerry Twarog. Also greeting him are his mother-in-law Edith Hayes and numerous aunts, uncles, and grandparents. Knowing John, he's probably explaining to Saint Peter how the pearly gates work. He also leaves behind his brother Danny (Janet), sisters Rita, Marilyn, Joan (Tom), sisters-in-law Rickie, Carol (Bob), Diane, and a whole bunch of cousins, nieces and nephews. He will be missed by countless people. “And so I have to say I'm just glad you came my way. It's not easy to say goodbye.” I love you Scheck.

Carl Anthony Della Nina - February 22, 1949 - January 28, 2023

Departed: 01/28/2023 (Lyons)
Obituary Preview: Carl was born in Chicago, Illinois, and still in grade school when his family moved to Riverside, IL, where he played games in a field and even recently found traces left of the strike zone box he had drawn then. By the time the family moved to the neighboring town of Brookfield, Carl already had graduated from Riverside-Brookfield High School and was a student at University of Illinois at Chicago, then called Chicago Circle Campus, eventually receiving his Bachelor’s degree in psychology there. He resided in Forest Park for many years, until he returned to the family home in Brookfield after the passing of his parents. Carl worked in insurance sales and other occupations until he became employed in the travel industry. He liked traveling himself, to places in the States and abroad, including Italy, the homeland of his roots. Carl preferred reading books in paper format and would visit the used book store for new material. He enjoyed music, ranging from classical to rock ‘n’ roll, and much more, lately gravitating to the oldies station on his car radio and golden hits on cable. He played chess from way back and continued this interest into the millennium with online chess, while still also playing in person. In recent years, two of his main outdoor activities were golfing and taking nature walks. If Carl really believed in a charity, he gave to it. He had an open, accepting spirit and the ability to appreciate a wide variety of people. Carl was son to the late Carlo Della Nina and the late Lorraine Mary Della Nina and brother to Laura Carla Della Nina.

and He knew you were in pain. He knew that you would never
be well on earth again. He saw the roads were getting rough,
and the hills were hard to climb. So He closed your weary eyelids,
and whispered peace be thine.
