Obituary Preview: Barbara M. Morris, 98, a resident of Commonwealth Senior Living, and previously of Parksley, VA, wife of the late Edward Henry Morris, passed away on May 18, 2024 in Onancock, VA.
Born on July 14, 1925 in Lakewood, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Nicholas Mesz and Rosa Poling Mesz. Barbara was a real estate agent for many years. She lived for many years in Bricktown and later, Howell Township and Farmingdale before moving to Virginia in the late 1970s.
Barbara is survived by a daughter, Vickie Pekarchik (Jack) of Manasquan, NJ; a son, Joseph N. Morris (Cholly) of Columbia, SC; five grandchildren, Timothy Pekarchik (Kristen), Scott Pekarchik (Jessica), David Pekarchik (Katie), Lauren Nageeullah (Ty) and Ashley Turbyfill (Michael) and six great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at the First Baptist Church of Laurelton Cemetery in Brick, NJ on Tuesday, May 28th at 2PM.

Annabelle was a faithful member of Atlantic Baptist Church and a member of tWomen on Missions. She was also a member of the Republican Party of Accomack County, where she served as treasurer for 25 years. Annabelle was a wonderful Christian lady and had many friends.
Surviving are cousins, Louis Justis, William Lewis (Kathy), Regina C. Taylor; nephew, Michael Mason (Dawn); and nieces, Cindy Ross Small, Traci M. Smith (Bryan), Lindsey Smith, Linda Mason and special cousin by marriage, Betty Colona.

Larry was born October 11th 1953 to George & Elaine Langford (also known as Gogo & Nana). He served in the Air Force, loved boating, farming with his wife, trained Percheron horses to drive carts, wagons, and equipment. Larry
was friendly and enjoyed everyone. Gave farm tours for many of our Eastern Shore friends. He enjoyed history and was an avid reader of many subjects. He graduated from the University of Maryland University College, became a CPA, and completed his masters degree at American
University. He worked at Fannie Mae and finished his career as a government accountant with the IRS in Salisbury, Maryland. In addition to his best friend, Larry is survived by the following Langford Family members: Wayne Langford with good friend Linda Yondolino, Bruce & Theresa Langford, Wayne & Victoria Broyles, Christopher Langford (with Boomer) and numerous loving nieces,
nephews, and cousins. Also missed by Valerie's family is Doris Mason, Frank & Rosemary Horstman, Kevin & Faye Madigan, & Jon Horstman as well as their kids who all enjoyed farming and boating time with Larry. A Life Celebration for family & friends will be held at Dockside Restaurant 421 Deale Rd, Tracys Landing, MD 20779 held on May 16th at 11:30am

Gary was a US Army Veteran and worked as a civil servant for the Norfolk Navy Base as a pipe fitter. He loved metal detecting and spent many hours walking the beach finding treasures. He enjoyed life fully and will be missed by his friends and family, who were very dear to him.
Other than his Mother, Betty, Gary is survived by a son, Jake Carson Keisel of Richmond, VA and his mother, Juanita Marie Cole Keisel; a sister, Pamela Ward and husband, Kenneth "Abe" of Exmore, VA; two brothers, Robert Keisel and wife Toni, of Norfolk and William Keisel and wife, Deann of Kenson, NC; and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, April 26, 2024 at 2:00 PM from the Wessells Cemetery in Mears, VA.

Born on January 29, 1938 in Snow Hill, MD, he was the son of the late Charles Carl Dryden and Mary Elva Dryden. Dave was an officer for the United States Coast Guard for 30 years. After retiring from service, he worked at NASA as a security guard. He was a dedicated member of Zion Baptist Church, serving in numerous capacities over the years. He enjoyed gardening, golf and antiquing. Dave had a true heart for people and was a dear friend to many. He loved his family, friends, church, and especially the love of his life, Diane.
Dave is survived by two sons, Charles David Dryden, Jr. and wife, Renee of Machipongo, VA and Steven Craig Dryden of Atlanta, GA; sisters, Edna Jones and Joyce Larson of Snow Hill, MD; grandchildren, Joshua David, Rebecca Marie and Charlotte Elizabeth; a great-grandchild, Trinity Rose; and several nieces and nephews.
Other than his parents and beloved wife, Diane, he was preceded in death by sisters, Betty Massey and Nellie Hart.

Born on September 21, 1941 on the family farm in Temperanceville, he was the son of the late Harvey Roy Thornton and Audrey McGee Thornton. Edward was a lifelong poultry farmer for Perdue for 45 years. He thoroughly enjoyed his job and farming.
Edward is survived by two sisters, Jean Thornton Taylor and Charles Coulbourne of Pocomoke City, MD and Carol Thornton Purdy and husband, Craig of Pocomoke; a brother, Harlan W. Thornton and wife Jean, of Temperanceville; nieces and nephews, Kristin Grandy, Kimberly Marshall, Karen Atkins, Wade E. Taylor, Scott Taylor, Carla Makinen, and Chris Purdy; and great-nieces and nephews, Elizabeth and Ryan Grandy, Paige Marshall, Dalton and Cooper Atkins, Ethan, Meredith, Riley, Blake and Colby Taylor, Landon, Layton and Callan Makinen, and Gabby, Kenzie and Emme Purdy.
Other than his parents and wife, Edward was preceded in death by a great-nephew, Caleb Paul Taylor.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 9 at 2:00 PM from the graveside of the Downing's Cemetery in Oak Hall with Maury Enright officiating.

Born on August 12, 1976, in Montgomery, AL, she was the daughter of the late Lt. Col. Roderic W. Moses and the late Mary Gayle Moses.
In her younger years, Tiffany lived the life of a military child, living on several Air Force bases in both Germany and the United States, with the family eventually settling in Chelmsford, MA until her father’s passing in 1992. Following this loss, Mary Gayle and Tiffany relocated to Bloxom, VA, where she lived for several years, graduating from Arcadia High School in Oak Hall, VA, before eventually returning to New England to settle in New Hampshire. Tiffany was a mother, and her joy was her two sons, and nothing ever gave her more pleasure than when she was with them. Her sons were her greatest pride, and the crowning achievement of her life.
Tiffany is survived by her two sons, Evan Martin of Hollis, NH and Gavin Martin of Plaistow, NH. She is also survived by her brother, Todd Moses (Vickie) of Merritt Island, FL, and several nephews and nieces.

Mary Addelia Clark - June 29, 1946 - March 31, 2024

Obituary Preview: Mary Addelia "Dee" Clark passed away on March 31, 2024 on the Eastern Shore of Virginia.
She was born to Helen Virginia (1919-1977) and George W. Sweeney (1917-1997) in Portsmouth, VA on June 29, 1946. In 1964 she graduated from Maury High School and attended Louisburg College. In 1966 she married George S. Roberts. They welcomed two children; a son, Stephen W. Roberts and a daughter, Leigh Ann Roberts.
Dee trained as a Medical Lab Technician and worked for DePaul Hospital in the laboratory for 27 years. While working at DePaul she met and married William E. "Bill" Clark on September 10, 1989. In 2002 Dee and Bill Moved to Melfa on the Eastern Shore of Virginia.
Dee is preceded in death by her husband, William Clark (1939-2017) and her daughter, Leigh Ann Blanchard (1969-2021).
She is survived by her son, Stephen W. Roberts; two brothers, Ernest L. Copley and wife, Happy Copley, and Richard C. Copley. Also surviving are two granddaughters, Amanda Roberts (Brandon Dalton) and Chelsea Fredrickson (Jarrod); and seven great-grandchildren, Brandon, Brayden, Brianna, Bradley, Bryson, Brooklynn and Brantley.
A memorial service will be planned for later in the summer.

Timothy Wayne Whitaker - October 05, 1948 - March 28, 2024

Obituary Preview: Timothy Wayne Whitaker, 75, of Keller, husband of Melba Jarvis Whitaker, passed away on Thursday, March 28, 2024 at his home in Keller, VA.
Born on October 5, 1948 in Vicksburg, MS, he was the son of the late Ernest O. and Dorothy Graddy Whitaker.
Timothy graduated from Millsaps College in Jackson, MS and received a Masters of Divinity from Emory University. He also received two honorary Doctoral degrees from Florida Southern University and Bethune-Cookman University. Timothy served in congregations in Mississippi, Virginia and Florida. He was the District Superintendent for Norfolk, retiring after serving 12 years as Bishop of the UMC in Florida.
Tim, as he was called by everyone, had many interests in life. Growing up in the forests of Redwood, MS, he developed a life-long appreciation of trees, skies, and all of God's creatures. This led him to be on a continual litter patrol in his community in retirement so that others could appreciate nature as well. He also enjoyed sailing the creeks around the Eastern Shore in his small sailboat and cycling the country roads and city streets to relax his body and mind.
As a gifted theologian, Tim was able to read and understand the most obscure and difficult writings of erudite theologians from all historical periods and then translate the knowledge so that all could understand it. He also had a deep love of poetry that fed his soul throughout his life. Tim remained a teacher to all until the end of his life through writings and through his total acceptance of God's will for him. Through this he strengthened the faith of friends and family.
Other than his wife, Melba, Timothy is survived by two sons, Steven "Scott" Whitaker and wife, Michele of Onley, VA and Richard "Eric" Whitaker and wife, Mary Thao of Tucson, AZ; two brothers, Clarence A. Whitaker (Betty) of Vicksburg, MS and Stanley E. Whitaker of Vicksburg, MS; and five grandsons, Thor, Ivan, Brian, Timothy and Richard Whitaker.
A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, April 8, 2024 at 1:30PM from Johnson's United Methodist Church in Machipongo with Rev.Curtis Lucy officiating. Interment will follow in the Johnson's United Methodist Church Cemetery. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Scholarship Fund for Quessua, a cluster of villages, churches and schools in the East Angola Conference of the United Methodist Church. As bishop, Tim was instrumental in establishing a covenant with this unique place and was asked by the young people there to focus on education for them. Mrs. Young was born in Accomac in her family’s home, a place very dear to her. She graduated from airline school in New York City and also worked at DuPont before returning to the Shore to marry and devote the remainder of her life to her family. Martha valued close friends, humor and well appointed homes.
Mrs. Young is survived by three children Ann Justis, Robert Young and Greg Young and a very special son-in-law, Clay Justis. She was the proud grandmother of Thomas, Cole, Robert, Philip, Ann Holt, Grace, Mason and Angel and great grandmother of Penelope, Luca, Ruby and William. She was predeceased by her husband, the Honorable Thomas William Young.

Born on July 24, 1947 in Nassawadox, VA, he was the son of the late Clifton Royal Bloxom and Georgie Viola Barnes. George had numerous jobs over the years, always greeting everyone he met with a smile and conversation. He worked at John Ewell's restaurant in Parksley and the Parksley Drug Store out of high school and later worked at numerous grocery stores, including Meatland, Matthews Market, Gargatha General Store, and Royal Farms. GE was a well known Saturday night radio personality alongside Choppy Layton, playing the "Oldies but Goodies" show. In his younger years he was an avid pool player. He also loved watching NASCAR and was an avid Miami Dolphins fan. GE never met a stranger and will be remembered for his genial personality and generous spirit.
George Eddie is survived by two nieces, Susan Bloxom and B.J. Hall; nephew, Douglas Bloxom; cousin, Vicki McCready; and many great nieces, great nephews and close friends.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Calvin C. Bloxom and a nephew, Calvin P. Bloxom.
A celebration of George Eddie’s life will be held Friday, March 8th, at 2:00 PM from the Thornton Funeral Home with Stephen Phillips officiating.

Joan is survived by her sister and caregiver, Ina Fuller of Parksley; sister, Kim Pilgrim of Salisbury; sister, Sharon Fuller of NJ; several nieces, nephews and friends; and her dog, Marty.

Smith of New Church, VA; a son, Eugene W. Johnson III and wife, Connie, of Bloxom, VA; 11 grandchildren, William Cox, Christina Taylor, Christal Johnson, Rhonda Johnson, Jesse West, Aaleah Midgett, Justin Sanders, Cody Sanders, Michael McCullough, III, Kenneth McCullough and Alex McCullough; 21 great-grandchildren; a sister, Debbie Taylor; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Patricia Ann Mears-Johnson - October 20, 1942 - February 10, 2024

Obituary Preview: Patricia Ann Mears-Johnson, affectionately known as "Pat" or "Miss Pat," passed away peacefully on February 10, 2024 in Williamsburg, Virginia, at the age of 81 years young. She was a remarkable woman whose life was filled with love, and compassion.
Born on October 20, 1942, in Guilford, Virginia, Patricia was the beloved daughter of the late George F D Mears and Cora Ann Martin Mears. She was preceded in death by her brother Gene Mears, and sister Rose Marie Annis.
In the 1960s, Pat was embarked on an extraordinary journey, living in Africa for several years and exploring its wonders. She visited breathtaking places like Victoria Falls, Botswana, Madagascar, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, and the Serengeti, where her deep appreciation for animals and nature flourished. Pat cherished this time in her life and fondly spoke of her African adventures. She had an unparalleled passion for geography and was always eager to keep up with worldly events. From a young age, Pat's love for gardening was a passion and it would be amiss not to mention her prized rose gardens.
Pat's entrepreneurial spirit and unwavering compassion led her to become the dedicated owner of Pat's Home for the Elderly on Market Street in Pocomoke, Maryland. As a nurse, she showed genuine love and empathy for her patients, standing as a beacon of support during their times of need. Pat was ahead of her time, breaking boundaries as a woman in business, and she achieved fulfillment and independence through her hard work and determination. She had an unwavering commitment to the elderly. She was an advocate and voice for so many.
Once Pat sold her business she retired to Guildford, VA where she continued her advocacy for animals, her love of flowers and nature, and caring for her family.
The Eastern Shore of Virginia was her birthplace and always home to her. Patricia remained active in the community until her illness in March of 2021, at which time she took residence in Williamsburg, VA with her daughter, Julie, who oversaw her daily care.
Above all, Pat's heart belonged to her family. She loved her children, Julie Nicole Mason-Casey, Mark Mears Mason, and David Leroy Johnson, and her grandchildren, Gabrielle Lynn Mason, Chad Mason, Mason A. Casey, and Cora H. Casey, with a boundless affection that extended to her great-grandchildren, AmeriKiss Kromer, Kai Kromer, Erick Stevens Jr , Blu Stevens, and Rocky Stevens. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Sarah Mears, and nieces and nephews, George Wayne Mears, Harvey Mears, Donna Mears, MH Annis, Vivian Annis, and Mickey Annis.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Pat's caregivers, Melissa Clarke, Pam Sullivan, Anita Jenkins, and Lori Horsley. These compassionate and kind-hearted individuals provided unwavering support and care to Pat during her final years. We would also like to thank Hospice of Williamsburg and their staff for providing comfort and care for her.
Patricia Ann Mears-Johnson's legacy will forever shine as a testament to the power of love, compassion, the pursuit of one's dreams, and the elegance she brought to every moment. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all those who had the privilege of knowing her.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 16th at 2 PM at Guilford Church in Bloxom. Interment will follow in the Gilford Church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Born on August 15, 1938, in Parksley, he was the son of the late Harvey and Thelma Young. Donald joined the Air Force after high school. After serving for 8 years he returned to the Shore to farm and survey. In all the many years of farming his favorite was driving the combine during harvest season, he never missed a year. Often times he could be spotted at Royal Farms getting his coffee and newspaper or riding the back roads early in the mornings looking at his fields and checking rain gauges. Donald was an active participant in Virginia Farm Bureau for many years. He served as the Accomack County Farm Bureau President and was currently serving as an Accomack County FB director. When not farming he could be found in his recliner watching TV or doing sudoku puzzles with a cat asleep on his lap.
Donald is survived by his wife, Lou, of 56 years; his daughter Kathryn and her husband Travis Bundick of Abingdon, MD and his son Matt of Parksley; grandchildren Brooke (Bundick)Sterner, Meghan Bundick, Caroline Bundick, Luke Young, and Violette Young; sisters Ruby Young Swain, and Barbara Young Middleton and several nieces and nephews.
Other than parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Ralph F. Young (Rhoda), a nephew Franklin Young (Lois Ann), a brother-in-law Hughes Swain, an infant daughter Tambra Young, a daughter Beverly Young White and son-in-law Richard White.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, January 28th at 2pm at Zion Baptist Church in Parksley. Interment will be private.

Bill was a proud member of the National Guard and later a Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force. During his time in the National a guard, he was in the 146th Medium Tank Battalion Combat Command B 49th Armored Division. He served during the Korean War and earned a National Defense Service Metal. He worked as an electrical engineer for LTV/Chance Vought and Lockheed Martin and was involved in the stealth program - Project 917, as well as the installation of the Scout Missile in the Smithsonian Institute. He also worked on a Desert Storm project after retirement. He was a past member of Parksley and Atlantic Fire Departments. Bill could make anything and loved tinkering and fixing things. Bill was a lifetime member of the NRA and he enjoyed hunting, guns and traveling with his wife and friends to Pennsylvania to go to the flea markets.
Other than his beloved wife, Fran, Bill is survived by three daughters, Deborah Ann Gilmore (James Harrison) of Loganville, GA, Karen Elizabeth Tapman (Billy) of New Church, and Janet Darlene Trader (E.T.) of New Church; grandchildren, Mandy Gilmore, Billy Tapman (Dana), Matthew Tapman (Hillary), Tom Trader, Brian Trader (Tyler), Jennifer Bennett (Colin) and Jonathan Flowers (Chelsea); great-grandchildren, Alvis, Brody, Taty, Leila, Miguel, TJ, Kylie, Alanna, Noah, Gabriel, Brinley, London, and one on the way; several great-great grandchildren; sisters, Katie and Ollie; and several nieces and nephews.
