Stephen Welhorsky - June 11, 1949 - May 10, 2024

Departed: 05/10/2024 (Oakdale )
Obituary Preview: Stephen Welhorsky Jr., 74, of McDonald, North Fayette Township, passed away on Friday, May 10, 2024, in Canterbury Place.
“Big Steve”, as he was known, was born on June 11, 1949, in Paterson, New Jersey, a son of the late Stephen and Dorothy Koryga Welhorsky.
Big Steve was a retired route driver for the Wonder Bread Company. Big Steve loved the road. When not driving for work, you could often find him on 1 of his 2 Harley Davidson Motorcycles or his Big Dog Chopper, usually accompanied by his sons, Steve and Mike. Before his wife, Lynn’s passing, the two were always out riding together, sometimes with their boys. One of Big Steve’s greatest wishes was to have three generations of Welhorsky’s riding motorcycles together. Family was very important to him, especially his two grandchildren, Drew & Kendall. Big Steve never missed a sporting event or an activity of theirs. He was so proud of the two of them and always loved being a part of their lives. From the family vacations they would take together to Wildwood, New Jersey, to their trip out West to see Mt. Rushmore, and the most recent trip to Las Vegas, where Big Steve fulfilled his dream of riding a Harley through the desert, thousands of laughs were had, and many memories made. All the trips together with his family were so special for Big Steve, but some of the best memories made were when they were all together at his home, grilling and hanging by his pool. Big Steve loved his home, and you would often find him sitting on his back porch or swimming in his pool with his four-legged best friend, Bella. She was his confidant and one of the reasons for his infectious smile. Big Steve was truly the most selfless, caring, and happiest person you would ever meet. He always had a way to make you smile and his hugs were absolutely the best. You knew how much he loved you when he wrapped you up. Although his beautiful life was cut far too short, if there was one thing Big Steve would want you to remember is “No emotions, I lived a good life.”
Surviving is his son, Michael (Missy) Welhorsky, and his two favorite people, his grandchildren, Drew and Kendall Welhorsky, siblings Beth and Mark and his best friend, his dog, Bella.
Along with his parents, Stephen is preceded in death by his loving wife, Lynn Ridings Welhorsky and son, Steven Welhorsky III.
All arrangements are private and entrusted to Thomas-Little Funeral Service, Inc. and Crematory, 5000 Noblestown Road, Oakdale (724-693-2800).

Margaret A. Cottrill - July 05, 1944 - March 16, 2024

Departed: 03/16/2024 (Oakdale )
Obituary Preview: Margaret A. Cottrill, 79, of Oakdale, passed away on Saturday, March 16, 2024.
Margaret was born on July 5, 1944, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of the late Edward and Cora Blose Duffy.
Mrs. Cottrill was the owner of Distinctive Catering, a catering company she ran from her home with her husband. Margaret loved cooking and it was how she showed her love. You could taste the thought and kindness that went into every meal she made. You never left hungry when you visited Margaret and her husband, Williams home.
Margaret and Williams enjoyed every second they shared together. After working together for more than 20 years, the two decided it was time to start traveling. Often they would take trips to camp or down to Florida. While in Florida, Margaret made sure to provide all of her friends with a home cooked meal. Those meals are what she will be remembered for.
Margaret loved caring for others and it showed with everything she did. She was carefree and did not care for others opinions. Especially when she began singing karaoke. If there was a Patsy Kline song on, Margaret was singing. She enjoyed life and loved each day like it was her last. She was one special lady and she will never be forgotten.
Surviving are her children, Deborah Lynn Cottrill, Williams J. (Sherry) Cottrill Jr., and Michael E. (Christine) Cottrill, grandchildren, Whitney Lee, Angelina Rose and Maxwell Michael Cottrill, siblings, Alice (Joe), Dawn, Mary, and Betsy.

Melissa Marie Sprouse - October 06, 1974 - February 02, 2024

Departed: 02/02/2024 (Oakdale )
Obituary Preview: Melissa Marie Roesch Sprouse, 49, of Oakdale, passed away on Friday, February 2, 2024, at Allegheny General Hospital.
Melissa was the daughter of Paula Villotti Roesch and the late George Roesch. She was born on October 6, 1974 in McKeesport.
Melissa was the Production and Scheduling Manager of Tenaris. Her friends at work became more of a second family to her. They took such great care of Melissa and were always quick to offer a lending hand.
Melissa enjoyed spending time reading a good book or playing video games at home. But there was also a very active side of Melissa that was always ready for her next adventure. Whether that adventure was found in a book or in her non-stop Hallmark movie marathons, she was bound to have it. However, her greatest adventure began 13 years ago, when her son, Austin was born. From the day he was born, Melissa dedicated her life to him. She loved her little boy more than anything in this world and would do anything to make sure that he was always cared for. Melissa was so proud of Austin and loved sharing his greatness with the world. As Austin was very active in Boy Scouts, that meant so was Melissa. She became the treasurer of Austin's Boy Scouts Club in Oakdale. Austin also loves to play baseball and basketball and that meant Melissa was going to be at every game cheering him on. They loved experiencing life together. Whether it was a campout on the Washington Wild Things field, camping at Ohiopyle, or enjoying their season tickets to Kennywood, the two were inseparable. Austin gave Melissa all the love and smiles she ever needed. She loved Austin more than anyone could possibly know. As he throws the first pitch out at a Wild Things game this summer, his guardian angel will surely be cheering him on.
Surviving along with her mother is her son, Austin Sprouse, siblings, David Villotti and Heidi (William) Moner, and nephews, Ayden Villotti, Joseph Moner and Miles Moner.
Friends and family are invited to a Celebration of Melissa’s life on Thursday, February 8, 2024 from 6-7 p.m. at Thomas-Little Funeral Service, Inc. and Crematory, 5000 Noblestown Rd., Oakdale (724-693-2800). A time of remembrance will be had at 7 p.m. on Thursday in the funeral home.

James J. Kovacevich - December 31, 1955 - January 30, 2024

Departed: 01/30/2024 (Oakdale )
Obituary Preview: James J. “Jim” Kovacevich, 68, of Oakdale, Collier Township, passed away on Tuesday, January 30, 2024 in Allegheny General Hospital. Jim was born on December 31, 1955, in Akron, Ohio, a son of the late Janko Peter and Dorothy Antof Kovacevich
Mr. Kovacevich was a very well educated man. Jim valued his knowledge and the good that his mind could do when put to work. Jim graduated from Akron University with a bachelor’s degree in Biology and Electrical Engineering and also graduated with associates degrees from Community College of Allegheny in Business and Marketing. From his time in Akron University, Jim became a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. His love for knowledge took him many places over his career. Some of his most proud accomplishments were that of working at Babcock and Wilcox as an engineer and also at Clyde Bergemann. Jim was not your average employee, he took great pride in his jobs and always found more ways to become involved in the businesses.
His active spirit and nature did not stop with his work. Jim was eager to join and participate in any and all local clubs. Jim was a very active member of the Oakdale F & A.M. Lodge #669, Pittsburgh Commandery Knights Templar and Zerubbabel-Duquesne Royal Arch Chapter #162. He enjoyed the fellowship he shared with the different members. He was also a lifelong member of the NRA.
Jim’s heritage was very important to him. He was proud to be Serbian and enjoyed staying connected to his roots. Jim was a member of the American Yugoslav Club in Midland and also a devout member of St. George Serbian Orthodox Church in Midland. His church was a second home and the basis of his life. James learned how to live life from that which he was taught in the Church. Just like every other part of his life, Jim was very active within the church. One of his favorite activities was being a member of the Kosovo Men’s Choir, based in the Cleveland-Akron area. He had traveled many different trips with this group, but one trip always remained his favorite. In May of 2002, Jim and the choir went to Schereville, Indiana for the Serbian Choir festival. It was there that he met the love of his life, Cynthia. Listening to Jim recall the story of his perfect day was like reading the most romantic romance novel. Jim would tell you that when he first laid eyes on Cindy that it was love at first sight. He knew that God had picked Cindy just for him. That God knew he would need someone by his side for the trials of life.
Jim was absolutely correct. Having Cindy as his angel on Earth was exactly what James needed. The two married in 2005 after spending every second they could together after their first encounter. Their love was infectious, powerful and strong enough to fight every battle thrown their way. On January 20, 2007, with the help of Cindy, Jim officially declared that date as the birth of his sobriety. Jim was so proud to be a member of AA and the family that the two of them had gained over a decade of attending meetings. Their years will filled with adventure, as Jim had traveled to 46 of 50 States. While some trips were well thought out and planned some were based on a whim. Like their trip to Omaha, Nebraska, when Jim was on the search for his perfect steak.
Although suffering from a stroke in 2013, Jim’s life did not stop. He loved life and although he was bound to a wheelchair, nothing was getting in his way of living. Jim and Cindy kept on going with the help of their family and friends. The two enjoyed cruising around the Caribbean, Europe, before his stroke, and trips to Myrtle Beach. When Cindy offered to take Jim on a lunch date his answer was always “Yes”, and most of the time before she could even get the question out. The two enjoyed going to movies together, seeing many different musicals and simply sitting together and listening to Jim’s favorite group, The Beatles.
If there is one thing that Jim would want everyone to take from his time here on this Earth, it truly would be that despite every setback that comes your way, trust in God, love hard and live your life to the fullest. Those three things are how Jim lived, and what an amazing life he did live.
Surviving are his loving wife and best friend of 21 years (18 married), Cynthia “Cindy” Vukas Kovacevich, siblings, Ellen Robinson, Christopher (Bridgette) Kovacevich and Dr. Greg (Maria) Kovacevich, brother-in-law, Dr. Steven (Dr. Kelly) Vukas, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, Kumovi and friends.
Friends and family will be received on Friday, February 2, 2024 from 3-8 p.m. at Thomas-Little Funeral Service, Inc. and Crematory, 5000 Noblestown Rd. Oakdale (724-693-2800). A Masonic service will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, February 2, 2024, in the funeral home. A Pomen will be held following the Masonic service at 7:45 p.m. in the funeral home.
A Visitation prior to the service will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2024 from 10-11 a.m. at St. George Serbian Orthodox Church, 30 Tenth St., Midland, PA 15059. A Liturgy will be held following the visitation on Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Church. ALL ARE ASKED TO MEET AT CHURCH. Interment will follow at Beaver Cemetery. The family wishes to thank all the wonderful caregivers that showed up for Jim. “You will never know how grateful we are to all of you.”
