Obituary Preview: Ilona “Angel” Sannay Blevins, age 77, of Morganton, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 21, 2024, with her family by her side. She was born in Munich Germany on September 29, 1946, to the late Lester Clark and Josefa Clark Gutienneir.
Mrs. Blevins was a retired CNA and a member of Morganton Seventh Day Adventist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Blevins; son, James Brian Brogley; sister, Romona Berry. Ilona was a prayer warrior and volunteered at God's Closet. She also worked as a church volunteer. She also loved hiking, Crocheting, gardening and camping.
Those left to cherish her memory include three sons: Kenneth Brogley Jr. (Michelle) of Glen Alpine, Chris Brogley (Christie) of Seminole Florida and Tim Brogley of Williamsport Ohio; two daughters, Sunshine Blevins and Patricia Brogley (Late James Brogley) both of Morganton; Two sisters, Jeanette Innes and Patricia Focken; grandchildren, Kylie Carswell (Andrew), Kayitah Rose, Katie Brogley, Cassandra Halloran, Chloe Brogley, Shelby Brogley, Tyler Brogley (Nicole), Taylor Brogley and others; best friend, Josie Cornett.

He was born August 15, 1951, in Caldwell County to the Late Carl Thomas Braswell and Harriett Braswell Bowman. Larry was a commercial truck driver and of the Christian faith.
He also served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam Conflict.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Larry Thompson Braswell, Jr. and Brian Thomas Braswell. Those left to cherish his memory is his daughter, Angela Hart (David) of Morganton; five grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.

Obituary Preview: Maureen Carol Thompson, 80, of Connelly Springs, NC, passed away suddenly on December 20, 2023, at UNC Health Blue Ridge Hospital in Morganton, NC, and moved on to the next dimension with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. No funeral service will be held at this time.
Maureen was born on November 24, 1943, to Ralph and Virginia (Hitt) Kuklentz in Sioux City, Iowa. She grew up in Sioux City and spent several years living in different parts of California prior to graduating from Central High School in Sioux City. After marrying Edward Thompson in 1963, they lived in Sioux City and both worked at the Zenith plant. She later worked for many years at the Milwaukee Weiner House #1, an iconic favorite local sandwich shop. Maureen moved to North Carolina in 1983 to spend the next 30 years with her faithful companion, Joe Lowman, enjoying southern weather and country living. She retired after many years of working at the Continental Teves plant in Morganton, NC, and spent the rest of her life rescuing and caring for her many dogs and cats.
Maureen enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, working on her many craft projects, shopping, taking care of animals and reading. She is survived by her son, Richard Thompson of the home; daughters, Linda Rivers of Mount Gilead, NC, and Julie Thompson-Stokely of Sloan, IA; eight grandchildren, and numerous great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Ronald Kuklentz; and Joe Lowman. He was a loving husband, devoted father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Heather Carter, a daughter, Leeanna Carter, a son, Andrew Weinhauer, and a granddaughter, Mariana Carter all of the home.
James was born in Lansing, Michigan on October 16, 1974. He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Carter and his mother, Anna Riegle Carter. James was the baby of 6 brothers and 3 sisters along with many nieces and nephews.
He was employed by Western Steer of Newton as a cook and he enjoyed cooking, shooting guns and spending time with his family and friends.
James will be sadly missed by his family and friends who loved him beyond measure. A celebration of his Life will be held at a later date and time.

He loved reading his Bible and Louis Amour books. Kenneth was fascinated by the weather, tornados, lightning, etc. He also was of the Baptist Faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Pat Craig and Faye Forbes. She loved her internet spades, listening to Gospel and R&B music on YouTube. She also loved spending time with her grandkids whenever possible. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Iola Harris and Gloria Hardy and a brother, Brent Hardy.

Donna Elaine Hollar - March 22, 1955 - September 25, 2022

Daughter of: Fred Donald Hollar and Jettie Ozell Elder Hollar both of Catawba County.
Donna graduated from Bunker Hill High School in 1975 and went on to study Early Childhood Education/ development.
Mom survived an unfortunate fatal car crash in December of 1990 and suffered a traumatic brain injury. She went through many years of rehabilitation, physically and mentally. Mom became a member of partners behavioral health and served on the board for Catawba County advocating for the rights of other mental health and traumatic brain injury service participants. As her daughter, supporting her mother got me involved in many seminars and retreats that helped me understand how to be more supportive. Up to date, these memorable events were so powerful they are instilled in me.
Mom was well known for her resourcefulness and "Brains" and served on the PHI THETA KAPPA Honor society for her high academic achievements. My mom always taught me there was no such thing as "too much knowledge". Always learn as much as you can and let no one hold you back!
She served her community as a Notary Republic and was also a certified Genealogist and put many long hours into her research. It didn't matter to her because that was something she enjoyed. My mother wore so many hats and titles but to me the most important title was her being my mom and a loving grandmother too : Breana Ruelas, Monica Meraz, and Karly Meraz.
Great-grandmother to: Aleya Ruelas, Abriell Ruelas, Alora Ruelas and a brand new great granddaughter: Leylani Santana. Grandson-n-laws: Jose Ruelas and Alex Santana She had two brothers: Neil Hollar and Danny Hollar Nieces: Jeanie Hollar, Terri Hollar, Kristina Eckard, Brandy Hollar Nephews: Danny Eckard, Dereck Eckard, and Nicholas Hollar
Mother, Aunt, Sister, Grandma, Granny, Great granny. She will be missed dearly. I LOVE YOU MOMMA!!

Obituary Preview: William Haywood Avery, 73, of Morganton, departed this earthly life on Sunday, September 4,2022 at Autumn Care of Drexel. He was born in Burke County on March 15,1949 to the late William Alexander Avery and Susie Davis Avery.
William graduated from Corpening School and worked as a janitor for Henredon Furniture Company and volunteered for the Christian Ministries food giveaway. He was also a lifelong member of Mission AME Church. William was a faithful member of the Sunday School, Men’s choir and served on the trustee board. He was a big teddy bear of a man, a compassionate Christian, who was always ready with a prayer. His catch phrase was “God Loves you and so do I”. William loved the Lord with all of his heart. During his residency at Autumn Care, he enjoyed sitting in the day room watching TV and spending time outside at the gazebo. He continued to enjoy and participate in any service or singing activities that worshiped the Lord. William looked forward to receiving his Sunday school book, communion and visits from the Mission AME church family. He also anticipated visitors especially family members who often came with his favorite meal from Bojangles and sometime Kentucky Fried Chicken which had to include tea. On holidays, especially Thanksgiving, he looked forward to a home cooked meal. His favorite was a turkey leg.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Susan A. Johnson and his brothers, Jimmy Avery and Perry Avery.
