Jeremy Lormis - June 06, 1975 - April 21, 2024

Departed: 04/21/2024 (Hinesville)
Obituary Preview: Jeremy Lormis, born on June 6, 1975, in Yakima, WA, passed away unexpectedly following a brief battle with illness on Sunday, April 21, 2024, in his favorite Sunday afternoon setting, surrounded by his family.
Jeremy was known by many titles throughout his life. He was an avid outdoors man. He loved to hunt, hike, snorkel, snowboard, and of course fish. Jeremy moved to Liberty Country, Georgia in 2004, and one of his favorite things to do was to take family and friends offshore fishing in his boat. He was also known to many as Dr. Lormis, the professor and counselor, and he loved helping people overcome challenges and find peace in their present circumstances. Jeremy was a skilled carpenter and a passionate woodworker. He always said, “I’m not a mechanic,”, but after having two boys with four-wheelers and boats, he became proficient in that as well. His garage and driveway were often filled with the many projects he was working on. Anyone who came to his house could also attest that Jeremy was a wonderful chef and baker. His kids would get so excited when they came home from school with their mom and smelled the delicious aroma of their dad’s cooking. Others called him Pastor Jeremy, and as a pastor his guiding theme was to love God and love others, which he demonstrated by loving his community, his neighbors, and his family.
Jeremy and Angela were married for nearly thirty years and enjoyed many adventures. Together, they visited 49 out of 50 states and seven countries. Their greatest treasure is their family. Jeremy and his dad, Roy Lormis, shared many outdoor adventures together, and Roy and his wife, Kathy, moved to Liberty County, Georgia in 2020 to be closer to their kids. Jeremy’s mother, Shannon Shelton, and his sisters, Angie Shamburger and Lauri Roberson, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephew live in Washington. Jeremy’s mother-in-law, Rosalind Marner, lives in Missouri, along with many of his aunts, uncles, and cousins. Jeremy also has several aunts, uncles, and cousins in Wisconsin.
Jeremy’s greatest pride and joy was his children. His son, Matthew, his wife, Summer, as well as Jeremy’s daughter, Bethany, and her husband, Juan, all live on Colonel’s Island. Jeremy’s son, Weston, and his wife, Jordan, live in Hinesville. Jeremy was incredibly happy and grateful that all of his kids lived close by and loved to spend time with him. Jeremy also acquired a German son in 2011, Patrick Rudiger. Jeremy was a proud “Pops” to his grandsons, including Mathew’s children, Maverick and Judd, and Bethany’s expected son Lucas, who he didn’t get to meet but already loved deeply.
Jeremy lived his life fully, and he leaves behind a legacy of faith, hope, and love that will not soon be forgotten.

Dr. Gerhard Maier - February 05, 1949 - April 14, 2024

Departed: 04/14/2024 (Hinesville)
Obituary Preview: Herr Dr. Med. Gerhard Maier
Albert Georg Gerhard Maier passed away at his home after a brief illness on April 14, 2024.
Born on February 5, 1949, in Nürnberg, Germany, he was the only child of the late Georg and Margarete Maier. After graduating from Melanchton-Gymnasium Nürnberg, he attended Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg where he earned a Masters in Economics (Diplom-Volkswirt). Deciding on a career in medicine, he graduated with a medical doctorate from Julius-Maximillian University in Würzburg in 1982. Completing his residency in internal medicine in Bergen, Norway, he first practiced medicine at the University Clinic of Göttingen. While at Göttingen, he began pursuing his passion for helping others with his gifts. In 1986, he first volunteered at St. Walburg’s Hospital in Nyangao Province, Tanzania. Over the years, he became involved with German-based NGO Doctors for Developing Countries (Ärzte für die Dritte Welt) through which he delivered medical services in countries around the world including India, El Salvador, Togo, and Vietnam. Board certified in urology, andrology, chemotherapy, and oncology, he established his own medical practice in Lübbecke in 1990. In 1991, he married the former Nancy Holman of Liberty County, Georgia, in Xanten, Germany, and they welcomed their only child Katy on April 1, 1995. The family continued to live in Germany until Dr. Maier’s retirement in 2012 when they moved to family land overlooking St. Catherine’s Island. For the last decade of his life, he continued working six months a year at the Cancer Rehabilitation Center in Bad Oexen, Germany. In addition to his professional clinical work, he had a deep passion for nature and was an avid sportsman and athlete. He loved running marathons and completed the Hermannslauf, one of Germany's most prestigious and popular long-distance trail races, several times. He also enjoyed long road bike adventures including a memorable 225-mile (659 km) trek from his home in Lübbecke to Munich. In addition to boxing and jogging, he relished hiking in the Alps and North Georgia mountains, taking occasional off-shore fishing trips, strolling the beach, and kayaking the marshes off St. Catherine’s Sound. He gave back to the Earth by sustainably nurturing his homeplace he shared with his wife Nancy, planting fruit trees and longleaf pine and tending his beloved roses.
A true renaissance man, he was interested in and read widely on all subjects, and was fluent in German, English, French, Norwegian, Spanish, Swahili, Latin, and Greek. An audiophile, he savored classical music with a particular fondness for Boccherini, Bach, and Beethoven, but, in his final days, he was soothed by Willie Nelson’s classic album Stardust. He had a sophisticated and dry sense of humor and never missed many opportunities to poke fun at hypocrisy. Stepping out into the afternoon breeze, he often enjoyed a good beer at five o’clock or cup of coffee, cigarette, and glass of cognac as the sunset bathed the marsh and distant islands in Coastal Georgia’s own glorious variation of Alpenglow.
He is survived and will be deeply mourned by his devoted wife of 33 years Nancy Lou Holman Maier, his daughter Katharina Courtney Holman-Maier, his brother- and sister-in-law Lynn and Crystal Holman, several German cousins, and many friends and associates in both the United States and Europe.

Lori Ann Lupo - April 03, 1959 - March 07, 2024

Departed: 03/07/2024 (Hinesville)
Obituary Preview: Lori Ann Lupo, 64, died on Thursday, March 7th 2024. Lori was born April 3rd 1959 in Fort Lewis, WA to Homer and Barbara Harding.
Lori was known by most as one of the hardest working people they have ever met. She was also one of the kindest and most loving people. Fierce and passionate in everything she did; never letting anyone or anything stop her from achieving what she set out to do and she believed everyone else could do the same.
After graduating from North Kitsap High School in 1977, Lori went on to study at Mr. Lee's Beauty School (Class of 1978) in Bremerton, WA which began her career as a Master Cosmetologist that spanned 47 years. Over that time, after working for other salons, including Rofflers Hair Salon in Hinesville, she ran three hair salons, starting with Lori's Hair Salon, attached to the back of her home, eventually taking over Special Effects Hair Salon on Ryon Ave. in Hinesville, GA, until she moved to Washington State in 2004 and eventually opening Main Street Hair Station in Kingston, WA.
Lori had a passion for learning; always attending hair shows and classes to keep up-to-date with the latest trends and techniques of beauty. Her passion for learning eventually led to her taking part in countless shows for MATRIX Hair Care in Atlanta, GA and New York City, NY. In her later years, she became an Instructor of Cosmetology for Savannah Tech where she was tough, but always taught with passion and the belief her students could achieve anything with hard work and determination. She was always so proud of her students - her team - at every competition.
Lori loved her family and friends with every fiber of her being. She made sure everyone knew her door was always open whenever they needed it. She had a love of community; volunteering her time and talents at nursing homes, children’s hospitals, and many public events.
Lori's children were her greatest loves. Not only did she attend just about every school event and trip, but she was also wholeheartedly involved in every scout trip and event. She could sell Girl Scout Cookies and Boy Scout Popcorn to anyone and did. No matter what they went through, she was always there for her children and made sure they knew they were all loved equally and would never walk alone. She loved being a grandmother most of all. Known as Meemo, she was always up for a good time of games and laughter.

Tony was born December 20, 1964 in Savannah to the late Fairl and Shirley Maney. He was a lifelong resident of Liberty County. Tony, an avid outdoorsman, spent many days on the river, pond, or in the woods in pursuit of that big ‘ole buck. He had already conquered his quest to catch that giant bass that he’d been after since he was a young boy. Tony also loved getting out there in the woods and chasing down a big ‘ole hog.  One of Tony’s ways to relax was sitting on his momma’s front porch watching the people ride by. He would smile and wave, and he always expected to get a honk out of the people he knew. Tony was known to tell a few tall tales, and he would tell them to anyone who would listen. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fairl and Shirley Maney; his brother, Gary Maney; and his brother-in-law, Bobby Cooke.
Tony loved his daughter, Amber “Bubba” Haggerty with his whole heart, along with his 3 grandchildren, Hunter, Trulyn, and Austin. Tony cherished and loved all of his family, especially his momma and daddy. There is nothing he wouldn’t do for any of them. Tony never met a stranger, and he could strike up a conversation with someone he just met, making them feel like they’d known each other forever. He was truly one of a kind and will be missed by his family and his many friends he made over the years. Rest in peace, Swamp Dawg.
Tony is survived by his daughter, Amber “Bubba” Haggerty (Justin);  his 3 grandchildren, Hunter, Trulyn, and Austin; his sisters, Evelyn Smiley (Mike), Diane Cooke, and Connie Smith (Robert); his brother, Daryl Maney (Paulette); several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends.
