Robert John Dee - September 07, 1956 - March 10, 2022

Departed: 03/10/2022 (Hinesville)
Obituary Preview: Robert John Dee September 7, 1956-March 10, 2022
It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, Robert Dee, 65, of Allenhurst, GA on Thursday, March 10, 2022, at Memorial Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. He battled a rare form of cancer and did so courageously and on his own terms- as he did with any opposition he met in life.
Robert John Dee, affectionately known as Bob or Bobby, was born September 7, 1956, in Pittsburgh,  PA to the late Leonard and Rosemarie Dee. He was their first son, and third eldest of nine children. His father’s love of airplanes and flying was passed on to Bob as a young boy. He earned his private pilot’s license and was a member of the Civil Air Patrol. After graduating from Norwin High School in June 1974, Bob joined the U.S. Army and served as a helicopter pilot until his honorable discharge in 1980.
Bob began studying the Bible and was baptized in 1981 as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. He settled in Liberty County, GA where he met the love of his life, Carrie, and her son, Pernell, whom he also loved dearly. They were married nine months later in 1983, and to this union two beautiful daughters were born.
Bob was always a hard-working provider for his family. He owned and operated a commercial cleaning business and was contracted to Hobart in Richmond Hill, GA for over two decades before they closed in 2014. His most recent employment was at Elan Technology in Midway, GA.
He was a philosophical thinker and an avid reader, and would spend countless hours researching history and theology, and teaching others about the Bible. He loved his cup of coffee in the mornings and 5am early witnessing on the weekends with his brothers and sisters in faith. He also enjoyed several hobbies including making model airplanes, computer programming, and being in the kitchen while Carrie cooked, waiting to be her taste-tester. He was a kind soul, who could put a smile on your face with one of his many dad jokes. His grandchildren were his pride and joy, as you could see the love he had for them in his smile as his eyes lit up when they were around.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife of 38 years, Carrie; son, Pernell Boyd; two daughters, Aijalon Brock (Deshon) and India Dee; four grandchildren: Braelon, Maleah, Aiden, and Autumn Brock; 8 siblings: Patricia Rocco, Diane Oakley, Leonard E. Dee, Jr., David J. Dee, Lawrence T. Dee, Kathleen Clark, Richard M. Dee, and James Dee; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family and friends that will miss him immensely.
Bob’s family would like to extend heartfelt thanks and appreciation for all the prayers, words of comfort, meals, and other contributions following his passing.

She contributed to the military goals in war time as well as in peace time.  Unconditional in support of her husband’s career, she demonstrated enthusiastic devotion to army life noted by commendations granted to her by the generals her husband served throughout his career. She was proud to be a part of the ladies of noncommissioned officers and exemplified being part of the backbone of the Army during the thirty-two years her husband served their country.  She supported her husband, son, sons-in-law, brother-in-law and grandson many times in conflicts that spanned World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War and in the Middle East.  As an army wife she was a good solider on the home front, upholding the virtues of duty, honor and country.  She embodied the notion that a soldier’s success depends on his ability, conduct and his wife.
Mrs. Pipkin worked for the war effort at Fort Benning, Georgia as a supervisor of parachute riggers/packers in the process of rolling, packing, drying, sewing, and inspecting parachutes used by members of the Army Airborne during WWII.  She supported her husband in the work he did in rebuilding Germany as a goodwill ambassador after WWII.  The family was re-stationed at Fort Stewart, Georgia in 1955 where she took part in the business community as well as an active member of the Liberty County educational system where her five children attended school.  She was a longtime business owner in military theaters concession businesses throughout Georgia. She was a joint partner in several real estate businesses located in the Low Country.  She was an active member of the Protestant Chapel as a Sunday School teacher when her husband was active duty at their different posts. Mrs. Pipkin supported education in Liberty County through efforts in fund raising and as a contributor of land to build schools in Liberty County. She supported women’s rights, encouraging others to obtain a good education that would last a lifetime.  She helped others to get a foot up by providing jobs and educational opportunities.  Many have regarded her accomplishments as amazing achievements as a woman in business, a mother, and wife.  She touched many lives as she lived hers.  Her intelligence, wisdom, faith and insight will be missed.

Graham Freethy-Mansfield - April 22, 1945 - February 09, 2022

Departed: 02/09/2022 (Hinesville)
Obituary Preview: MSG Graham “Toby” Freethy-Mansfield, 76 years of age, was born in Ingham, Queensland, Australia on April 22, 1945 (Earth Day) to Chalfont Freethy-Mansfield and Doris Isabella Johns. Graham passed away peacefully due to natural causes on February 9, 2022 in Savannah, Georgia.
Graham was a decorated Vietnam War Veteran. He served two years in the Australian Army from 1965-1967. At the age of 21, he was deployed to Vietnam for one year from 1966-1967. When he returned to Australia, he sold his car and his boat for a one-way ticket to the United States of America. He eventually joined the U.S Army and would serve 24 years from 1970-1994.He was stationed in places like Kentucky, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Germany, New Mexico, South Korea, Arizona, and Hawaii before he finally moved and retired in Georgia. He has lived in Hinesville, Georgia since September 1992. His rank at retirement was an E-8 Master Sergeant (MSG). After retiring from the military, he would begin working in the civilian workforce as a mover at Helig- Meyers furniture store. He did not like his job as a mover and began looking for another job. He then began working for Parker’s Gas Station Corporation as a Maintenance Supervisor. He stayed at Parker’s for about 12 years until his retirement from civilian life at the age of 62 in 2007. Graham was a patriotic conservative. He loved his home country of Australia and his new home country of the United States. The military was his life and how he supported his family. As you can see, he had a strong work ethic unmatched by others. He enjoyed many hobbies, such as, collecting coins, stamps and license plates. He had an eclectic taste of music and enjoyed many genres including country, Motown, soft rock, some pop, jazz, Australian/American folk music and calypso (Harry Belafonte to be exact). His most absolute favorite thing to do was dance. That man loved to dance and would dance his heart out. He was like a wild fire spreading quickly across the dance floor. Once a fire is set ablaze, it is more difficult to extinguish. He was unstoppable and would dance your shoes off of your feet. A family friend always called him, “king of the dance floor.”
Graham was a member of the Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA), Liberty County Chapter #789, and played a huge role in the welcome committee for the troops returning home. Many Americans opposed the Vietnam War and the Vietnam Veterans did not receive a warm welcome upon returning home. This fueled Graham’s commitment to be there for the troops because he has many veteran friends that did not receive that same welcome back. Graham had an amazing sense of humor and got a kick out of pranking people. Everyone he encountered would have a laugh. He loved to look good, smell good and he always kept his car clean and waxed, especially before a dance. He loved attention and would often bask in it when received. He also enjoyed gardening, fishing, taking pictures and had a love for travel and history. He was jolly, loyal, strong, dedicated, committed, courageous, consistent, impatient at times, organized, positive for the most, a collector, a giver, a hero and was an overall phenomenal person to be around. He had an impact on many people and he will be greatly missed. He will live forever in our hearts and memories. “Lest We Forget!”
Graham loved his entire family. He loved to tell stories and always boasted about his children and grandchildren. Whenever given an opportunity to speak about them, he took advantage and made sure everyone knew something about them. He spoke highly of every single family member and friend.
Graham is survived by his one brother, John Joseph Freethy-Mansfield (87) of Queensland, Australia; one sister, Norma Ann Perry (82) of Queensland, Australia; 4 children, Peter Graham Mansfield (51) of New Mexico, Kathy Ruth King (49) of Indiana, April Michelle Shipley (43) of New Mexico and Doris Ann Freethy-Mansfield (35) of Georgia; 7 grandchildren, Benjamin Thomas King (27), Timothy Woodrow King (21), Henry Theodore King (15), Avery Nicole Shipley (23), Ashley Harley Shipley (20), Sidney Graham Baugh (8) and Sedrick Devon Taylor Jr (5 months) and many other family members and loved ones.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 19, 2022 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm and the official service will begin at 2:00 pm with military honors being rendered at the Thomas L. Carter Funeral Home in Flemington with Elder Anthony Johnson officiating. Thomas L. Carter Funeral Home 1822 E. Oglethorpe Highway, Hinesville, (physically in Flemington), Georgia 31313.
