Joyce Louise Grandlienard - August 29, 1926 - March 10, 2022

Obituary Preview: Joyce Louise Grandlienard, 95 of Bluffton, Indiana passed away peacefully on March 10, 2022 at River Terrace Retirement Community. She was the daughter of Alfred and Marie (Brickley) Girod, born August 29, 1926. She had four siblings, Hallie Pace (deceased), Jean Kober (identical twin), Ina May Dormire (deceased), Donald Girod (deceased).
Joyce married Brooks Grandienard in September of 1948. They shared 58 years of marriage until Brooks’ death in May of 2006.
Joyce lived her entire life in Bluffton, Indiana and graduated from Rockcreek High School. She enlisted in the Army Corps of Nurses and earned her RN degree from Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing, where she graduated as valedictorian.
While raising her five children, she practiced private duty nursing and helped Brooks farm. In 1969, she began working full time at Wells Community Hospital. She worked 11-7 shift in the Coronary Care Unit and served as the night supervisor. Following retirement in December of 1991, she volunteered at the Panos Free Clinic.
Joyce enjoyed music, gardening, quilting, and cross-stitch. She was a member of the Wells County Extension Homemakers. Joyce was an active member of Old Salem United Methodist Church from 1948 until 2007 where she taught Sunday School and Bible School grades 1-3 for many years. In 2007, she transferred her membership to the United Methodist Church in Bluffton.
She is survived by her five children, Beth (Kent) Decker, Hudson, Wisconsin, Amy (Scott) Jones, Phoenix, Arizona, Meg Edwards, Noblesville, Indiana, Mark (Shari) Grandlienard, Bluffton, Indiana, Jo (William) Joy, Chicago, Illinois, 10 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 2 great, great grandchildren.
In addition to being a wonderful wife and mother, she was also a compassionate nurse, great mentor, woman of faith and a humanitarian.
Services will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2022 at Thoma/Rich, Lemler Funeral Home in Bluffton, Indiana with visitation from 1pm-3pm and the Celebration of Life beginning immediately following at 3pm. Obituary Preview: Dorothy F. “Dotty” Fryback 98 of Bluffton passed away Tuesday morning March 8, 2022 at River Terrace Estates in Bluffton. Dotty was born September 9, 1923 in Chicago, IL to Clarence George and Florence (Frey) Dittmann. She was a 1941 graduate of Lyons Township High School in Lagrange, IL. She also attended Purdue University.
On April 10, 1943 in River Forest, IL Dotty married William M. Fryback. He preceded her in death on February 8, 2010.
Dotty assisted her husband Bill with the family business (Fryback Ice Cream Company). Dotty started “Happy Hours” a monthly Luncheon for Senior Citizens in 1972. She was a member of the Psi-Iota-Xi, past president of the Foltz Club, past president of the Park Central PTA, and past president of the PTA Presidents Group. She also served as a Cub Pack and Girl Scout Leader. Dotty was awarded the Wells County Community Service Award and the Business Professional Women of the Year Award. Dotty was a faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church serving on the board of Deacons, Elders and Trustees. She enjoyed her time painting with the Brushing Broads.
Dotty is survived by a daughter Jennifer (William) Hilgedag of Indianapolis, two sons; John W. (Teresa King) Fryback of Stamford, CT, James C. (Stephanie) Fryback of Leesburg, a daughter-in-law Elaine Fryback of Jacksonville, FL, 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bill Fryback, a son Air Force Lt. Col. C. George Fryback and a grandson, Nicholas George Fryback, two sisters: Beatrice Vokes and Verne McCarthy.
A private family service will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2022 at the Thoma/Rich, Lemler Funeral Home in Bluffton with Pastor Lyle Ewing officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Bluffton. There will be a public calling from 12pm – 2pm also at the funeral home prior to the service on Saturday.

Obituary Preview: Nancy K. Dobson 85, of Markle passed away Wednesday evening March 2, 2022 at Lutheran Hospital of Fort Wayne. Nancy was born July 1, 1936 in Portland, IN to Ney and Dayle (Warner) Steed. She was a Portland High School graduate and a graduate of International Business College. Nancy worked at Caylor-Nickel Hospital for 22 years, 8 of those years she worked in Dr. Schamerloh’s office.
On July 27, 1957 in Portland, IN Nancy married John P. “Jack” Dobson. They have shared 64 years of married together.
Nancy enjoyed cooking, quilting and growing beautiful flower gardens. She was a talented pianist and had served as the organist for Murray Missionary Church for more than 30 years. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She loved spending time with her family.
Survivors include her husband John P. “Jack” Dobson of Markle, two sons: Jon V. (Peggy) Dobson of Murray, James C. Dobson of Huntington, a sister Bonnie Elder of Brighton, MI, a grandson Zak (Brittany) Dobson of Murray and two granddaughters Shelby (Evan) Saunders of Murray, and Jes (Brian) Funderburg of Huntington along with three great-grandchildren Addison, Sutton and Murphy.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents.
There will be a graveside service for Nancy at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, March 12, 2022 at the Elm Grove Cemetery with Pastor Michael Gilbert officiating.
Memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.

Obituary Preview: Vernon L. Bynum, 97 of Bluffton, passed away on Saturday morning, February 26, 2022, at his residence.
Vernon was born on November 23, 1924 in Bloomfield, Indiana to John G. & Elizabeth (Denny) Bynum. He graduated as the president of his senior class in 1942 from Lancaster High School and was the last surviving member of his graduating class. Vernon served his county in the Army Air Force during World War II. He farmed, was a self-employed excavator operator and had an earth moving business and worked as a rural mail carrier, retiring in 1990.
Vernon enjoyed reading and camping. He served as a scout master for both the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts for many years.
He was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Bluffton and the American Legion Post #111 in Bluffton where he served as a past officer and post chaplain for many years.
Vernon and Betty (Neff) Bynum were married on August 23, 1953 at the First Baptist Church in Bluffton.
Survivors include his wife Betty of Bluffton and 3 sons; Lee A. Bynum and Ned E. Bynum, both of Bluffton, Gary W. (Angie) Bynum of Craigville and a granddaughter, Jessica Bynum of Craigville.
He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Gilbert “Gib” D. Bynum and a sister, Janice Ann Markley.
Funeral services will be held at 1 P.M. on Wednesday, March 2, 2022, at the Thoma/Rich, Lemler Funeral Home in Bluffton with Pastor Les Cantrell officiating. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery with military honors by the United States Army Honor Guard and the American Legion Post #111 Honor Guard.
Visitation will be held from 11 A.M. on Wednesday until 1 P.M., prior to the funeral service.
Memorials may be made in Vernon’s memory to Heartland Hospice.

Obituary Preview: Elizabeth Elaine Harshman 82, of Ossian passed away Saturday morning February 19, 2022 at her home surrounded by family. Elaine was born in Jay County Indiana to Donald Argo and Bernice Deloris (Knoelke) Stout. She was a 1957 graduate of Portland High School.
Elaine was a Charter member of the Ossian Volunteer EMT and was a member of the Montpelier Church of the Nazarene. She worked as a veterinary assistant, worked at Bluffton Rubber, Mix Mill and Denny’s Gas Station. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Elaine was always willing to help in any way possible. She always had a smile on her face. She will be remembered for her response to someone asking her How Are You and she would always say “fat and sassy!!”
On December 29, 1957 at United Brethren Center Church Elaine married Henry LeRoy Harshman. They have shared 64 years of marriage together.
Survivors include her husband Henry LeRoy Harshman of Ossian, Adelbert “Del” Lynn Harshman wife Rebecca of Churubusco, Darwin Edward Harshman wife Juanita of Bryant, and Darol Ray Harshman wife Yelonda of Brownsburg along with 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter Diana Renee Fox, and 2 brothers Sam and Lester Stout.
Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, February 23, 2022 also at the funeral home.
A funeral service to celebrate Elaine’s life will be held at 10:30 A.M. Thursday, February 24, 2022 at the Thoma/Rich, Lemler Funeral Home in Bluffton with Pastor Jesse Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Alberson Cemetery near Geneva.
Memorial may be made to the Montpelier Church of the Nazarene.

Scott enjoyed cookouts, boating or just about anything dealing with the outdoors. He loved animals especially his dog Tucker. While working at Sterling Casting, he was a member of the G.M.P. Local #455. He currently was serving as President of the IUE/CWA Local # 84802 at WEG Commercial Motors.
Scott is survived by his father and step-mother, Adrian L. (Doris) Burns, his mother Jean M. Burns, his loving companion Catherine L. Lehman, his siblings, Steven L. Burns of Linn Grove, Mike (Kathy) Burns of Oregonia, OH, Shelia White of Bluffton, Leroy Palmer of Bluffton, Sherry Lehman of Berne, Donna Bowdersock of Celina, OH and Shelly Donna of Bluffton, along with several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00am Thursday, February 17, 2022 at the Thoma/Rich, Lemler Funeral Home with Pastor Flint Redwine officiating. Burial will follow at Stahl Cemetery in Bluffton. Calling will be from 9:00am until 11:00am Thursday also at the Funeral Home prior to the service.

Obituary Preview: Ray G. Lesh 101, of Bluffton passed away, Feb. 11, 2022, at Bluffton Regional Medical Center.
He was born September 21, 1920 at home in Rockcreek Township to Dwight and Lela (Gilbert) Lesh. Ray graduated from Rockcreek High School with the class of 1938 as class President. After graduation, Ray became a custodian at Rockcreek along with his brother Gerald. He continued to work on the family farm until he enlisted in the Army Air Corp, in February 1942. He served as an airplane sheet metal mechanic in Australia for 3 years. He returned from WWII and continued as a custodian for Rockcreek/ Northern Wells Community Schools, retiring after 50 yrs.
On Jan. 27, 1946, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Ray married the love of his life Roberta Milligan. They shared 72 years of marriage before her death on Oct. 22, 2018. Survivors include children, David E.(Robin) Lesh of Land’ O’ Lakes, FL, Linda (Bill) Schaefer of Greentown, Bruce A. (Fran)Lesh of Bluffton, Kent M. (Kelli) Lesh of Bluffton; along with 10 grandchildren,13 great-grandchildren and 4 great- great – grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister Ruth Fisher of Fort Wayne.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers; Gerald Lesh, Dale Lesh, Harold Lesh and one sister Helen Decker. Ray spent the majority of his life worshiping, learning, working and farming within one mile of his birthplace.
Funeral services will be held at 3 P.M. on Friday, February 18, 2022, at the Thoma/Rich, Lemler Funeral Home in Bluffton. Burial will follow at St. Paul Cemetery in Bluffton with military honors by the United States Army Honor Guard and American Legion Post #111 Honor Guard.
Visitation will be held from 1 P.M. to 3 P.M. on Friday, prior to the funeral service. Memorials may be made in Ray’s memory to the Norwell Athletic Department.

Nusbaumer, all of Fort Wayne along with a brother, Nathan (Nichole) Nusbaumer of Bluffton, along with her first grandchild arriving in August.
She is preceded in death by her father, Kay Nusbaumer.
A service to celebrate Sarah’s life will be held at 3 P.M. on Wednesday (February 16, 2022) at the Thoma/Rich, Lemler Funeral Home in Bluffton with Rev. Sherrie Drake officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Bluffton.
Visitation will be held from 1 P.M. to 3 P.M. on Wednesday at the funeral home, prior to the service.

Mary Ann was born on January 22, 1945 in Fort Wayne to Lester F. & Priscilla J. (Wentz) Walker. She married Donald F. Bricker on March 22, 1975 in Bluffton. They shared 39 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on July 30, 2014.
Mary Ann and Don owned and operated Bricker’s Plumbing & Heating for over 40 years and Bricker’s Camelot in Vera Cruz for over 21 years. Mary Ann served on the Wells County Crippled Children’s Foundation, as President of the Vera Cruz Town Board, and Secretary for the Wells County Democratic Party. She was a member of American Legion Post #111 Auxiliary and Elks Lodge #796.
Survivors include her children; Tony (Leah) Bricker of Dallas, TX., Tamara (Andy Jehl) Bricker of Markle, DeLeine Winchester of Indianapolis, Terri Bricker and Sandra D. (Hugo Smitter) Williams, both of Bradenton, FL, grandchildren; Logan Eisaman, Holdon Eisaman, Maxwell Eisaman, Jennifer Spencer, Erin Portillo, Sarah Garrett, Conrad Bricker, Hamilton Bricker and Dylan Jehl, and several great-grandchildren and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Don, and infant brother, Jackie Lee Compton.
A service to celebrate Mary Ann’s life will be held at 11 A.M. on Wednesday (FEB. 23, 2021) at the Thoma/Rich, Lemler Funeral Home with Rev. H.F. Cox and Ted Ellis officiating. Calling hours will be held from 4 P.M. to 7 P.M. on Tuesday (FEB. 22, 2022) at the funeral home, with calling for one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at the IOOF Cemetery in Hartford City.
Mary Ann’s family would like to thank the staff of Ossian Health and Rehabilitation, and Heart To Heart Hospice for the excellent care and comfort they provided in her final days.

Edward was born December 19, 1958 in West Palm Beach, FL to Basil E. Bowley and Ina A. (Long) Gehrig. Edward was a 1975 graduate of Central Nobel High School. He served his country in the U.S. Army.
On June 3, 2006 in Fort Wayne Edward married Coralee G. Breedlove. They have shared 15 years of marriage.
Edward was a truck driver for 30 + years. He was also Blacksmith, Gunsmith, and took part in many historical reenactments. He also enjoyed the outdoors, camping, hunting and target shooting. He was a member of the NRA along with the American Legion.
He is survived by his wife of 15 years Coralee G. Bowley, 5 children; Tabitha (Dan) Jenks of Huntington, Brian (Jennifer) Miller of Athens, GA, Jacoby Gibson of Uniondale, Rhianna Gibson of Bluffton, Keily Gibson of Decatur, three grandchildren Ethan Fitch, Jesse Turner, Natalia Jenks, along with a brother Earl Bowley of Fort Wayne and a sister Staci (David) Love.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and 4 brothers Ted Bowley, Brook Bowley, Bing Bowley, and Sidney East.
Visitation will be from 4 P.M. to 8 P.M. Thursday, February 17, 2022 at the Thoma/Rich, Lemler Funeral Home in Bluffton.
Funeral services will be at 10 A.M. Friday, February 18, 2022 at the Thoma/Rich, Lemler Funeral Home with Pastor Karen Ottjes officiating. Burial will follow in Stahl Cemetery with Military honors provided by the American Legion Post #111 Honor Guard.
